BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
My mind boggles that people felt the demo was lacking. I'm not attacking anyone but what more do you want out of a free demo?!

The controls were spot on, you got a taste of creative slaying and it lasted, initially for me at least, over half an hour. To top things off, after finishing it there's an incredible video preview of parts of the rest of the game. Sure it leaves you wanting more, that's the point of a demo. Now in a week we can all go pay 60-70 bucks for "more".
Agreed. My first play through the demo I took my time and looked around for hidden anythings. I think I played for about 45 mins before beating it. Solid stuff all the way around.

I loved it. I enjoyed just looking through all the rooms and checking out the posters and artwork and decoration. I'm super pumped for next Tuesday.

Did anyone else find the dead cat in the first room with the vita chamber. Its behind the chamber on the left. I just thought it was funny
I must be in the minority here, but the demo was average at best for me.
I didn't find the shooting controls to be the best, but everything else was top notch IMO. Looking forward to the release of the game, and I am happy with the preorder I have placed.
... after finishing it there's an incredible video preview of parts of the rest of the game.
I forgot about that, but now that I think about it that was pretty freaking awesome, just seeing the different situations and how you could play them out. It was awesome seeing the ways to use that lightning tripwire to take people out.

In regards to the graphics, did anyone else get a cartoony vibe from it (a la TimeSplitters)? I dig it.

Demo as a whole wasn't all that impressive. Great ambience/atmosphere sure, but nothing I haven't already experienced in past "FPS Horror" games.

To me this seems a lot like Halo, in that it's a great FPS/RPG hybrid primer for consoles, but not anywhere the best of the breed if you consider other PC games.

Still had a blast, but I guess with SHOCK in the title I expect a bit more depth character development wise.

Yes. I hit it with the wrench a lot.

Its a 20 minute demo. How much character development do you expect?
Its a 20 minute demo. How much character development do you expect?
The same amount that was in the first 20 minutes of System Shock 2? :cold:

It is just a demo, it may not reflect the final product's first 20 minutes.

Some people are reporting that TRU is selling this early (some getting it with the Madden deal).

Very tempting if my store has it....although, I have credit to burn at GameRush also.

How is Halo like an RPG at all?

PC games can suck it. Damn elitist.

The Roanoke, VA TRU does not have Bioshock yet. Or they do but the guy on the phone knew it wasn't "supposed" to be out yet. It's probably for the best, I have it nearly paid off at GS.

Stupid waiting...

Didn't mean to refer to Halo as an RPG. It's a good FPS for consoles, but for me it just doesn't seem that much more fun than the rest of the FPS I've played.

and damn right I'm an elitist :p

I got around to playing the demo today and I thought that it was excellent overall. The atmosphere and setting are expertly done, and the plasmids featured in the demo were fun to use. The hand-to-hand combat early on reminded me of Condemned.

Wait ... what hand-to-hand? You must have meant the melee. Overall I was a little disappointed by the demo, I've only played it through once so far and I'll give it another try but some things are bothering me about it. The reflections are bugging the hell out of me, the water looks great at first then I notice the moon isn't reflected on the water and there's white highlights everywhere. Then I get inside and I notice there's reflections on the walls of lights that don't even exist in the game. So I try to look past all this only to find my character acts like 5 yr old with adhd ... ooohh shiny plasmid must stick in arm ... arggghhh. I mean seriously the guy just narrowly escapes death in a plane crash that's right next to a lighthouse that transports him down to the depths of dna hell only to immediately act like a plasmid junkie. I really hope it's just the demo's fault that this story/game seems a lil rushed.

edit: ok I played it a second time and the moon is reflected in the water but not if you're standing on the stairs, go around to the back of the "lighthouse" and slowly walk to the water and it'll pop up when you're at the bottom of the stairs.

I can see where you would question this game and think it was rushed. The atmosphere had alot of detail and the gameplay was pretty solid, but just knowing that there was no reflection of the moon makes me want to remove the demo from my 360. Also considering the game comes out in 2 weeks I'm sure they'll be fixing the story/game flaws before it goes to production  .

I don't know about you, but if I just saw an ad where a guy used this shit and had special powers, I know I would be running to get some of that shit ASAP. Especially after the first thing I saw when I got out of the bathysphere was two guys getting killed.

You're so right. Its not like the guy would totally do anything to help kill, from what he can gather, is some genetic freak.

The character weighted his options: Try and kill these mutated freaks with a wrench. Given what he's seen so far, is a little difficult. Or even the odds in his favor with some extra firepower (pun intended).

Demo was spectacular. If I'm going to buy any game, besides Halo 3, for the rest of the year, this will be the game. I'm just not sure if I need another game besides Halo 3 for the rest of the year. Lots of great games coming out, but I'm tired of being poor.

See that's my problem. I only ever owned 2 games for Xbox 1 and they were H1 and H2 (though I did have Fusion Frenzy...but that was a gift)

I'm planning on picking up Eternal Sonata, maybe Mass Effect, maybe Stranglehold, maybe COD4, maybe Army of Two. My head hurts.

First, why in the hell would you worry about seeing where the reflections are coming from? You're just looking for reasons to not like this game, which is fine if that's what makes you happy. I just hope you don't do it with every game or you'll never be satisfied.

As far as the whole, crazy, "ooh, drugs!" bit, until we see how that part plays out in the complete game, I'm reserving judgement. Yes, it seems hasty in the demo. At the same time, it's been said many times before that the demo is not necessarily exactly the same as the initial parts of the game. It's intended to be a teaser, not to plumb the depths of what the main character is going through emotionally and physically.

Sorta like how they gave you Bahamut summon materia in FF7 demo. Imagine if you would have judged FF7's quality and difficulty based on THAT demo lol.
AS posted earlier some tru's are selling early. Tyron Blvd tru in St Pete is not
As INSANELY tempting as that is, I'm waiting for GS to sell it so I can pick up my CE.

And yeah, there's a ton of games coming out that I plan on picking up. Bioshock, Two Worlds (pending reviews), Stranglehold CE (already paid off), Blue Dragon (again, pending reviews), Rock Band, Halo 3, Half-Life 2 Orange Box (this is a must), Guitar Hero 3, Army of Two.. man

Well I got my 360 to work long enough to get throught the demo... WOW! I cannot wait to play the full game - hopefully yourfree360games will ship it soon (assuming I have a 360 to play it on).
The one on fowler is though. I am going first thing in the morning
That's tempting, I'm about 50 mins away from the Fowler TRU.

The local Wichita store didn't have it (or the clerk was clued into the street date) he said it wouldn't be available till the 21st.

I have the CE pre-ordered as well, but if TrU would have had I would have snatched it up. I really want to play this game.
That's tempting, I'm about 50 mins away from the Fowler TRU.
What's one hour and 40 minutes? Nothing.

I'd do it to get the game a week early.
Um dude thats not worth it
Considering that theres also the Madden deal where you buy Madden and get a second game for 50% off, I think it's worth it.

Anyone know that if i take all games out of my Q on gamefly except bioshock, will they not send me anythign until they have bioshock in?

Meh. Graphics were great (spent 15 minutes at the beginning after getting out of the water), but the game didn't seem that great.
Its up to you but that much driving...Did you consider gas.... Well yea I am doing that deal as well but ouch....Just so you know call ahead. I called at about 9 pm and the guy said they had about 6 but they werent displayed b/c its a mature game. Use this coupon as well.. http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148442
Well I have access to my dads honda civic hybrid and that thing gets a ton of MPG. Anyways someone in the deal thread mentioned that 99% of the east coasts TRUs will have Bioshock as it comes into stock and that they will be selling it as it has no street date. I'm gonna call the st. pete TRU tommorow again and make sure they're not BS-ing.

newbs @ the gamestop i preordered the bioshock. i asked if they are going to have it tuesday at opening time, and the clerk asked his co worker and he said it ships in 10 days.

so can anyone answer my question? Is GS going to have these at opening or when UPS ships it? thanks.

They'll likely get it either late the day it comes out or the next day. Depends on how close they are to the shipping facility. But from my past experiences with EB/GS, you can get it late in the evening the day it was released or sometime the next day. However, for something as big as say Halo 3, its like a 99.9% chance that they will have it at midnight.

I have to agree. The game is very linear. Walk here because you can't walk anywhere else, search dead body because there is nothing else to do, kill person, tap b for health.
