BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
They'll likely get it either late the day it comes out or the next day. Depends on how close they are to the shipping facility. But from my past experiences with EB/GS, you can get it late in the evening the day it was released or sometime the next day. However, for something as big as say Halo 3, its like a 99.9% chance that they will have it at midnight.
See my above post. Stores either already have it, or they're getting it in tomorrow's shipment.

Just played through the demo again, and I must say, they're not kidding when they say you can't play the same way twice. The flow of enemies was much different this time around. There were places where I waited to get attacked and nothing happened. Then there were places where I didn't expect to get attacked and I did. So awesome. I'm going to reserve my LE tomorrow.
I'm going to reserve my LE tomorrow.
I doubt they can guarentee it this late. It's under a week now, their order numbers have already been sent off.
I have to agree. The game is very linear. Walk here because you can't walk anywhere else, search dead body because there is nothing else to do, kill person, tap b for health.
I really think that's more an indication of what they put into the demo/the very beginning of the game versus what the final product is. I mean, this thing got insane reviews. If is was just another Doom 3 (beautiful graphics, same old shooting), it wouldn't be nearly as universally praised.

I'm so going to bug TRU everyday this week. I'd love to have some quality time with the game before school starts.

I wonder if any GS' will break street date. Seems like they could if word gets out that tons of people are going to buy it from TRU.
Meh. Graphics were great (spent 15 minutes at the beginning after getting out of the water), but the game didn't seem that great.
Agreed.

Well, I'll give it a shot anyway. I might as well try to reserve it now rather than hope they have extras on launch day.

I'm not that worried though. I don't really live in a place with a lot of gamers. Stuff is usually really easy to find around here.

I live in an area surrounded not only by gamers, but game studios. I've walked into a store where a bunch of guys are filing out wearing gaming shirts. I ask for a game at the counter and they tell me the guys from studio so and so just picked up all the copies.

anyone else have the demo freeze up on them? happened to me twice so far...
anyone else have the demo freeze up on them? happened to me twice so far...
I've had it stutter on me quite a bit (voice warping, pauses, audio glitches), I'd be pissed if this thing dies while I'm trying to get through Rapture. Oh well, I already set aside emergency funds for a new 360 if such were to happen.

The official forums and neogaf are retarded about the street date break, MODs are locking threads left and right....

Hell SciFi is running a commercial that even says: "Availible Now!". It'd be an awesome day for me as a gamer to have both Persona 3 and Bioshock arrive at the same time.

Can someone tell me where is the best place to find the limited Bioshock faceplate that is selling for a lot of $$$ on ebay? There was only 5100 made.

it was only sent to Gamestop managers. It's not something that you can buy.
is there any regular priced bioshock faceplates out there? I wouldn't mind having one.
I'm right there with you-- would have been nice in the LE.

This game will finally bring an end my personal gaming drought. I bought Kill.Switch and XIII to hold me over until it comes out.
I played through it again... and really, really enjoyed the Hacking element. I thought it was very neat.
Yeah, that didn't go so well for me the first time around. (Boom).

The second play through was a blast though; my little helicopter buddy helped out a lot.

Game is pretty good. I'll put this on the top of my queue for Gamefly. Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones to get it shipped to me.

I get these security alert things and that damn copter keeps shooting at me. How the heck I get rid of them?

Just went through the demo for the first time...

I remember why I don't like games like this.....they scare the shit out of me.

I can handle "scary" movies because they're only scary for moments at a time. But videogames? Man, you're fucking in it the entire time.

I was pretty impressed by the game. I like how you can rummage through the world and pick up stuff. Will I pick it up? Probably not because I'm a vagina, but I did enjoy the demo. I may give the demo a second run-through because now I know what to expect.

I'm just glad I wasn't playing with my 5.1 speakers. Man. I'd probably lose my mind if I actually played the full game.

Ditto on it being scary, I just played it on my projector (92" screen) w/ 5.1 surround. But I'll still end up buying it and probably not even finishing it or playing it during the day. Same thing happened with Prey and Condemend.
:baby:

Same here, I downloaded the demo for the hell of it and haven't even played it once. I'm a fan of comedic violence and junk like Dead Rising, but creepy games aren't my cup of tea.

Hell, I'm inching my way through RE4 for the Wii and the fucking Novistadors scared the shit out of me when I first encountered them, they don't look scary, just that I turn around and find acidic vomit being spewed on me made me jump.

I love spooky games. I remember hoping for spooky parts during my first playthrough of FEAR.

It really adds atmosphere to games. Moreso than good graphics or blood on walls.

To all of the pussies out there - it's time to man up. RE4 made me jump a bunch the first time through but now I fly through it popping everything in sight. The BioShock Demo creeped me out too but the second time through it I was fine. Don't pass up a great game.

its too bad that the game companies have for the most part stopped making faceplates to launch with there games...Getting a faceplate (not a skin) had me going in and preordering games:roll:

so no one else is having problems with the demo freezing? I might have to exchange my system...

o they made a bioshock faceplate and it is BEAUTIFUL. We have one at work that my boss is having a sales competition for it.

Being the assistant manager, im there almost everyday, so I will win regardless :D

Trust me, pics will be made a plenty when i get this thing, it has a picture of the big daddy on the front, and its super glossy, not that cheap plastic feel that most faceplates have.

I wasn't sure what to expect, as I haven't really been following the game much, but the demo made this a must-buy on launch for me. That's actually very surprising, considering that I'm a professed wimp with these types of games.

I think I might go pick up Condemned and FEAR when I go to reserve this today. Just so I can try to get my nerves ready. haha

Oh man. FEAR. That game...ahh get it away from me lol. Creepy little children are the worst thing to ever happen to the horror genre. fucking just...get them away.

I really do love horror movies, and most of the time I don't even think a lot of the movies that people consider really scary are that scary at all. Such as 28 Days Later, or The Descent. I will say that The Descent had me going a few times, but overall I was like "yeah it was ok scary." Games like RE or Bioshock are seriously 100x scarier than any horror film to me.

I'm still very much on the fence for this game. I've been thinking about getting RE for the Wii as well, I'm trying to overcome my fear of frightening videogames.

That UK one is epic. I wonder how much they'll go for on eBay. I've had the regular faceplate for over a year and a half now, I'd pay some serious money to switch it with the UK one.

Played the demo. I was really looking forward to this game, but I wasn't all that impressed with the demo. I think that when you get a game like this, and the hype surrounding it is off the charts, that a lot of people, who have put a lot of hope into the game, say they were more impressed with it than they really were. It's like when you buy your first car, and you're all hyped about it, and then you find out it's a lemon, but because you loved being hyped about it, you try to up-play the good things about it and downplay the bad.

That being said, the graphics and atmosphere were great, but I found the game to be a little disorienting, and I don't feel as though the demo gave much of a story to follow. I was a little confused as to the whole beginning, but that could just be because it's a demo. Who knows.

I also found the controls to be a tad floaty. Not too bad, but it made it kind of hard to aim, especially with how fast the enemies moved on screen. Also, the enemies all look pretty much the same. I'm one of those sick freaks who inspects bodies after they kill them, and I noticed that in the demo, they all pretty much looked the same. Bleah.

Will I get this game? I'm on the fence. I'm not sure it's worth $60. I'll probably wait until it hits around $40 to $50, but we'll see.

On a final note, as I played through the demo, I kept thinking of a phrase a game publisher once said when Bioshock was first being shipped around. He said Bioshock was "'just another ****ing PC FPS that's going to sell 250,000 units." I agree with half of that statement.

I hope the game explains how some dude just built a fully functional city underwater in the 40's

Well as for the story element...it's a demo. Though I did wish for some more background on why there were still people alive in Rapture. But I know it'll be in the final game.

I was never that hyped up for this game at all because the game never looked that appealing to me. But after playing the demo, I did enjoy myself. Plasmids were fun, so was rummaging through stuff and searching dead bodies.

I'll agree that the variants in enemies was kind of lacking, but in an FPS...I'm not that worried. Again, I'd probably expect more come release day.

Also, what do you mean by disorientating?

EDIT: Same here Appossum. During what time is this game supposed to take place? I know Rapture was created during the 40s or 50s....but what about the outside world?

I also can't over the hilarity of the cover. It's just like....BAM!

Also....did you guys know the commercials have been altered to say "available now?"

http://the7gamers.com/2007/08/14/bioshock-early-release/

Hmm..
If my TRU has it, should I grab extra copies for CAGs?
I wouldn't. By the time you ship it the game will be out (or very close). If someone wants you to then go for it though...

Yeah, the majority of TRU stores are seling it early, saying that there was never an official street date (even though there is). The commercial says "available now".

Apparently 2K wants to abolish the street date and make it sellable upon receivement, but no official word yet. I've also heard that Bioshock has been completely removed out of the EB/GS system to prevent early selling. This is one giant clusterfuck.

Posters on Neogaf are reporting that another poster from IGN called a TRU and said his store confirmed that all TRUs should be selling Bioshock as of today.

Now granted, this is an internet version of the game telephone so it's most likely a complete clusterfuck, but hey, wouldn't hurt to call your local store.

Mine had 6 copies.

All this talk of broken street dates is making me go nuts. I really want this game simply because everyone else wants this game.

Anyone willing to buy a copy of Madden 08 for the $360 for $45 shipped from me if I happen to find Bioshock at my TRU? I wanna get the game for $30, but don't want Madden.

*grumble grumble*

I'm dying to play this. I really want (and have largely paid off) the GS CE. At the same time, it's been 3 years since I bought a Madden game and the TRU deal would make the regular Bioshock very cheap (comparatively).

I should just turn off my interweb for the next week in order to avoid being teased like this.
