BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
This is true. I feel like before GS had the honor of being known as the website that had tough reviews. Whereas sites like IGN, which more than often overrates games. But ever since GS' TP review came out, the internet game community is just like "Oh holy shit! They gave TP what?!" and now, everyone seems to ignore GS if they're even just a couple points below the average score of whatever videogame.
Yeah, I seriously would have rated the Wii version of Twilight Princess a 7 or 8 and would have seriously warned anyone interested that it's a brilliant but ridiculously awkward game.

Anyway

Bioshock is my top game. I'm psyched OUT OF MY MIND for this -- no kidding.

Well I have played about 5 hours in and man I am engrossed. Its been a long time since I saw something and said damn but when you fight the Big Daddies you fear for your life....

funny, I never found it too awkward just ridiculously easy and extremely short.

All right, ENOUGH with the Zelda bashing! And Daroga and I thought we derailed this thread enough trying to explain why we wanted MP3 over Bioshock - at least those are two competing games coming out nearly at the same time and 1 is the subject of the thread. Zelda has nothing to do with this .

(And Zelda short?? I am only about halfway through - I admit, I stopped playing months ago but will return to it. I'm at least 20-30 hours into it though and nowhere near the end. It sounds significantly longer than Bioshock at any case).

And you guys are a bit hypocritical if you are going to be all upset if Gamespot gives your precious little game ONLY a 9.0. Sheeshh... If you are into this kind of game, what the fuck difference does it make if it scores 9's or 10's? For someone who is NOT into this sort of game (like me) even perfect 10's isn't going to make me rush out and buy it - but a consistently high score may make me consider it some day. I played the demo - if this ends up the best reviewed game of all time I will be a bit disappointed (as I could think of several other games I like much better), but it only points to my tastes being different than the "mainstream" I guess. But I won't think about it for more than a minute ;).

Well....I'm not "bashing" Zelda per se. I'm just saying it was overrated, and GS was very much warranted with their "low score" of 8.8 (should've been 8.0 - 8.5)

Your second point was what I was trying to get across earlier. Scores don't matter. When people saw the Zelda review, the internet almost caught on fire. going OMG!!! 8.8. I agree. Who cares, if you like it, it doesn't matter. Just like for Bioshock, multiple posters have been saying "Oh just watch GS give it a 7" WHO CARES. Play it and like it.

EDIT: Sounded a bit contradictory there. For those who liked Zelda, good for you. I stopped playing after about 33 hours, and I think 1 1/2 temples away from beating the game. After those 33 hours, I thought about it and was like "Hmm...that felt very...mediocre. Good. But stale."

I'm going to go on a limb and assume you did not play through Zelda: TP. Either that, or A) you're an immortal vampire with an unlimited blood supply and nothing but time on your hands, or B) the only other games you played were 100+ hour RPGs like Disgaea and Oblivion.

Yeah, I don't get the length complaints for Zelda.

It took me 45 hours to beat it, and I didn't do hardly any sidequests or minigames. I didn't use any guides or gamefaqs either though.

Heh, no I finished it, killed the big dumb pig, chased Ganondork around a bit and then stuck him like the pig. No I didn't collect everything but I did complete the Cave of Ordeals, It took me a little under a month (a few hours a night, and on weekends) then I started playing it through a second time and got bored and eventually just stopped playing it ... which is probably what will happen with BioShock (save! back on topic) the demo was way too easy on normal.

Welcome to my nightmare. Also, stay away from the PS3 boards. Those jokers will drive you nuts.

Yes. And this is why Gamespot's reviews are generally the most reliable.

Oh, and if anyone flips out because their precious game scores a ZERO-POINT-FIVE LESS THAN WHAT THEY DETERMINE IS CORRECT, they can go fucking kill themselves.

Yes. And this is why Gamespot's reviews are generally the most reliable. They seem to actually have some resemblance of standards...at least some of the time.

To divert from the topic of TP and GS:

I thought the demo was AMAZING. I've never been so enthralled and captivated in my life. The part where they give you control of the player, and he's in the water... AMAZING! Flawless transition from cutscene to gameplay. The rest of that felt like a user-controller cutscene. BRILLIANT. The cinematic feel of it makes me pray that Heavy Rain will be released with a 1st person perspective.

My only complaints:

1. Loading screens... wtf? Huh? Seriously... did we really need a load scene just as I was entering rapture? It completely jolted me from my enthralment with the game. Had that been taken out, my experience would have been DRASTICTLY improved.

2. Tired shooting gameplay. I'm very worried this is a bit too much shooter for me. I've played so many shooters... I don't know if I can handle more of the same.

But anyways, the demo ASTOUNDED me, and I will definitely have to pick this up somehow, despite being COMPLETELY broke.
God I wish I had a working 360.
So get one, silly!

Are you waiting for it to be replaced, or what?

Can't wait for Tuesday, I have to work in the morning and have some mandatory stuff to go to at school, but I am going to try to get out of there as soon as possible. I do know that I will be wearing this on tuesday.

I have an alert set for this one. As soon as it gets reprinted, it's mine! :)

Wow, that one is great.
I've always wanted a threadless shirt, but I've never gotten one.
Though I plan on getting one/some pretty soon.
I'd love to get that one, but it's sold out and needs to be reprinted. If it does.

Whats the quality with threadless shirts? Better than Hanes?
Whats the quality with threadless shirts? Better than Hanes?
they probably are hanes, but it's the printing quality you should look at which is good.
I completed the game last night. It was excellent.
:bomb:

I want it now damnit! Is you avatar a Bioshock acheivement?

I ususally don't buy games at launch, but PMing this for $50 to BB next week is VERY tempting. All the talk of how amazing this game is... I am DYING to play it.
they probably are hanes, but it's the printing quality you should look at which is good.
True...but if the shirt can't hold up after a few washings than the print quality means nothing ;) I'll probably order one later when they have a deal.

I believe they're Fruit of the Loom, but I could be wrong. I've been ordering from them somewhat regularly for the last 18 months or so, and all the shirts have held up really well. Obviously, the older ones don't look brand new anymore, but the print isn't peeling away or anything. The only thing I've noticed is the print on the inside (where the tag used to be) is nearly gone on a couple of shirts. Not a major issue--it's a great site, great customer service, and some of the most hilarious shirts I've ever seen.

I really liked the Bioshock winners, but I couldn't pull the trigger on that Deadsucker shirt. I had it in my cart, but decided it was just too creepy for me. Had I known at the time what kind of buzz this game was going to create, I might have picked it up--I really wasn't expecting it to have GotY potential (at least).

I've had a few shirts for about 2 years and they still look fine--no fading or anything. I forget what brand of shirt they use (and I can't check b/c I'm at my folks' house right now.) All I know is that I hope they switch to American Apparel shirts sometime-- those are the most comfortable shirts I've ever worn (they must be cheap too because lots of bands use them.)

Who is selling it for $50? 360 version, right?

I have no problem with FotL or Hanes. I just want something that'll hold up. I think i'll bite and get a shirt later today if i find one i like.

As far as I know b2g1 are always used. And there's none in the works right now.

How hard do you think this game will be to come by on day 1 without a pre-order? I'm going to be at Best Buy when they open as I hope to get it there with a price match from CC's ad.

Edit: I had a bad experience with Gears of War, that was a pain in the ass to get but I finally got it late nite on day 1 release.

shouldn't be too hard if you are there at opening.

Well I think most the hype for this game (to the general public) hasn't come until after the demo dropped. So right now the shit is hot fire, but the hype hasn't had long to get out to the mainstream gamers. You should be a right to pick one up day 1 off the shelf.

I have 2 gamer friends who are really just casual gamers, mostly they play Madden and Gears. And I asked them if they have played bioshock, and they both said they have never even heard of it.

My brother is also a pretty casual Gears/Madden gamer and he's never heard of Bioshock.

Okay so anyone who has the game or has been spoiled on a whole ton of the game, can you guys answer me this honest question?

Okay I've been spoiled on a few things, namely (spoilers):

Becoming a Big Daddy
Killing Atlas

How badly have I been spoiled?

Dude, I've had it freeze on me like 4 times. Especially when I'm saving my game:bomb: Luckily I save frequently so I didn't lose any cool plasmids or such:cool:

Wait, so there's actually an option on the 360 version to 'maximize' the framerate??? Please tell me you are kidding...
