BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info

If you want all the weapon upgrades,
DO NOT KILL Sander Cohen right after the masterpiece is finished. Apparently one of the stations is in the part of his apartment that remains closed if you kill him right away.

Where is his apartment located? I want to get the Secret Apartment location achievment
While the lights certianly go out a lot less than Doom 3, it scares the eff out me every time.
Hmmm, maybe I was just younger at the time, but I think I was more scared while playing Doom 3.
ah shit, also can anyone tell me where that place is? is it before i
kill andrew ryan
, or after

Responding to the replies about my last post:

Cohen's apartment is found in the chapter right after you kill Ryan. Cohen himself is met in Fort Frolic; don't kill him there, and supposedly he will let you in the otherwise sealed area of his apartment later in the game.

The fact that there is a weapon upgrade station came from a post on gamefaqs.

Damn, I missed 5 weapon upgrades and ONE tonic in my first playthough. Ah, well, gives me a reason to play on hard! But those fucking big daddies are even harder...

I'm watching the featurette, which I guess is with the LE? It's floating around ze nets, and I must say this is one of the best featurettes for a game, or a movie for that matter. Definately feeds the commentary nerd in me.

I posted this in the thread about checking for non-picked up preorders at Gamestop, but I figured I would post it here too, it might help someone out that is trying to find a CE. Apologies in advance if this was already discussed in this thread. Here is the post:

Just a heads up for everybody, I walked in to my local Gamestop today and asked how long they were holding Bioshock preorders, but it turned out they had some Bioshock CEs sitting aside in their "defect" area because of the broken figures. So if you still want to try to find a CE, you could try asking if there are any broken figure "defect" copies sitting aside and might be able to get one like I did.

Guys, how good is this game exactly? Im coming back from vacation in 2 days and am pumped to play this bad boy.

Are there any people here who had their doubts or wanted multiplayer and are now fully satisfied? If there are, this 2 day wait will be unbearable!

Also, I consider myself pretty good at FPS games, should I play through the first time on hard, or jsut stick with medium? Also, I heard there are some things you can only get the first time through, and I want to get the most achievements as possible, what things should I be looking out for?

so they made the OST available....I wonder if people will stop bitching now? this is easily one of the best games of all time and it seems like all people can do is bitch about OSTs and a missing shirt sleeve.

I'm not bitching about people in this thread, but every where else on the web.

If there is someone who wanted MP and isn't satisfied, they probably drink paint on a daily basis.
This is why nobody likes you.
And this is why I want to have butseckz with you.

:D

EDIT, Apossum, what are OSTs?

Don't worry, it's awesome. Even without multiplayer, this is easily one of the best games I've ever played. Everything is great. I'm really sad that I'm getting close to the end. I want to play it for the first time again.

What? You mean those uber-nerds at say, widescreen gamer? fuck them, if they don't want to play this, it's their loss. Let their whiny asses go back to "pwning noobz" at fucking Counterstrike.

I really started rolling on this game tonight and my god, it's unspeakably good.

I just got to
Arcadia and everything's all idyllic, I have a feeling things are going to go back downhill very quickly.

Lol, where are you anyway? Bad vacation?

So I just beat the game and I was wondering how many of you that have feel like you want to go back and play the game again. I'm not so sure I'll ever play this again, I wish I would have rented it instead. Maybe I'll come around though, off to Madden for me.

Oooh I want to watch. I sure hope you will wear your full master chief suit (we all know you have one).

Well I will definately go through it twice to get both endings. But I will actually do something that most people don't do, I played through on hard the first time and probably after that I will play on normal so I can get more of the story and die less.

Got the game yesterday and have really been enjoying it. Pretty amazing to say the least.

I have a question though (don't know if this has been asked already), has anyone else had the game freeze? A friend of mine said it kept happening on the first day after playing for a few hours. Sure enough, after playing most of the afternoon (I was up to Arcadia), it locked.

Didn't lose much progress, but it just got me wondering if this is widespread or not..
I like that they released the score, too bad its all so dark sounding
if you want the swinging stuff, go check out Django Reinhardt. :)

I didn't notice much gypsy jazz in the game, but it sure had alot of swooner tunes.

This game proves that VideoGaming is the most capable art-form.

No other film or novel in recent memory has delt with such heavy issues in such astounding ways, and the potential for emotional attachment in this game is exploited to perfection.

I agree, this is a big step for games towards their own brand of "cinematic storytelling." imo, the important thing is that it isn't done through cutscenes. games need to find their own effective ways of telling stories, not just by splicing (no pun intended) in movies in between gameplay and this game pulls it off.

When I stumble into a pile of confiscated bibles, or follow a ghost into a room that perhaps houses the corpse of my mother (which I don't learn until later)... this stuff it amazing.

The word that keeps coming to mind is "heavy"... this is really heavy stuff.

More than half of this game's storyline is learned by the player through choices of exploration that are not forced upon him. And yet, it's linear enough, it's forced enough, that it is truly a masterpiece of storytelling on the part of the dev team.

Everything in this game comes together so amazingly, every quote scrawled in blood on the wall, every audio-diary and even many of the corpses. The art design, the themes, this is really heavy stuff.

Sure, it impliments some rather "cliché" gameplay elements, but it seems to do it not at all to its detriment.

The last game that really pulled me in with storyline, as real "art", if you will, was Indigo Prophecy (which collapsed on the weight of its own greatness into a mass of rubbish in the last hour or so). That game was more of an interactive movie than anything. This game, it's not an interactive movie, it's not a "choose-your-own-adventure" -- it's a videogame. It's purely a videogame, and it accomplishes some of the most amazing things that most films have never come close to touching. If this is the infancy of videogaming... it scares me to think what artists like the folks at 2K Boston can do with this medium in the future.
Does anyone else see the irony that you get an artbook called "Breaking the Mold" when you send in your broken figure.
Actually I did notice that.

Not bad

The artbook is pretty borring in digital form. I wonder if I could buy it in print???

Also: where (besides Threadless) can I get BioShock T-Shirts and posters?

Has anyone successfully gotten the achievement for getting the jackpot on the slots? I've put a couple hundred dollars into this thing and I cant get higher then 2 dollar signs or 3 tomatos.

edit: Ok, apparently you have to post on a message board about it, then you will get it instantly.

edit edit: Cohen related.
Where does he go after you finish his quest? I didn't kill him and would like to do so, or do I have to go and replay in order to do it?

Just continue on with the game and you'll run into him later.

Really? Beat it the other day and I've been running around from the pre-end save taking care of research achievements. I'll have to check around some more.

Goddamn it. I just finished
the whole bomb level
and my 360 froze when loading
After you open the door to Andrew Ryan, aka the door to the next level

GODDAMN IT! My last save is at the very, very beginning of the
bomb
level.

finally finished it. great shit but--(ultimate spoilers)
the last boss was ridiculously easy since I had an army's worth of firepower. still nothing beats seeing a bunch of little sisters stabbing the hell out of Fontaine while yelling "Kill him!"

How different is the end if you harvest all the little sisters? I don't want to know the exact details, but if anyone has done both (or read spoilers), lemme know if it's completely different.

best game this gen so far, hands down.

that happened to me twice already in different spots...luckily the second time i tend to save more often...I am hoping its just a fluke since my elite is one of the newer ones with the added heatsink

in regards to your spoiler...
Yeah it was pretty easy, but I did enjoy FINALLY using my security target plasmid. When all the drones came out in the second(?) wave, I hit him with it a few times and they tore him to bits. Then of course they stayed around and took out the splicers, so that might have made it a tad easier.
Lol, where are you anyway? Bad vacation?
Vancouver, Canada. I am here for some wedding that is now over, so now its family time, whcih includes a lot of sitting around hearing my younger cousins whine. Can't wait to play this bad boy, it'll be a relief!
Oooh I want to watch. I sure hope you will wear your full master chief suit (we all know you have one).
I would, but it just gets too tight down there. I have tried to get a boner in the suit, to complete my Cortana fantasies, but it wouldn't work.

;)

It's pretty different, you can watch it on Youtube.

I don't know how far I am, but I am having a blast. I am not creeped out by the game anymore. I could probably play in the dark tonight if I wanted to. I get scared easily. Anyway, this game deserves the hype in my book. It could take a page from the glass shattering manual from Resistance: Fall of Man. But that is just superfulous detail that doesn't detract from the game. I am saving the little sisters this time. Fun game. Can't get enough of it.

Okay so i just beat this tonight...

While the Boss Fight was pretty lame, the lead up was excellent. So apparently the reason the Vita-Chambers worked for the player was because he was essentially half-Ryan. Big Daddies are just unlucky Jason Bournes. Fontlas apparently does not abide by the Gatherer's Garden rule of Character development. I'll play this again for sure, but for the time being I'm going to take a break.

Ok, a Cohen observation:

If you choose not to kill him at the masterpiece, he opens up the sealed container with the Medical Expert 2 tonic (nice, seeing as how it'll take longer to get otherwise). If you kill him there, you loot the key for the chest container. which contains nothing of overall value.

Now, a Cohen question:

Has anyone found out if killing him and taking a picture LATER in the game counts toward the "Irony" achievement? Or if you can still loot the chest key from his body? I haven't made it that far yet on this playthough, but I'm just randomly curious.

I need to stop playing this game... too much fun. It feels like Oblivion with guns. :)

EDIT: One more question on that area:
In Fort Frolic, in the side wing on the bottom floor on the atrium, in the mall area (it has a clothing store with a safe hidden behind a painting, and the smoke shop with the weapon upgrade), there is a storefront with a closed gate and malfunctioning door. Has anyone been able to get in to that store? The full store seems to be on the map's floor plan, but I don't think you can actually get in there, or I just can't figure out how.
