BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info

I so lost interested in the game.. I recognize how awesome the environments are, and how good the story is, but the gameplay started to bore the crap out of me. I'll force myself through it eventually.

There's a new achievement worth 100 points. It's a secret achievement. One guy said he looked at the game's code and it's for beating the game on hard without using a vital chamber.

So the game has 1100 achievement points?

Err...

So why does it say 1000/1000?

I checked xbox.com earlier today, and it was 1100. Xbox.com is broken right now, so I can't prove it yet.

Right, but technically you don't use one until you die and respawn there.

You only use it if you die.....For those that got bored. Are you mixing and matching plasmids and weapons? Like lighting a guy on fire and shooting a rocket at him. Those types of things make it fun

Stupid Stupid Bioshock...

Well, I was about 5 hours into the game when I took a break not playing for a month.

Then my GF was over and she forced me to play it again (she loves watching BS) and so we played for around 2-3 hours, without saving.

Then we got to this loading part where it froze during the load.... now every time i load the last save it loads the quicksave part where it froze. So now I have to replay those 2 hours all over again... blah..

Should save more often. I save all the time in games that let you save any time. Clear out a room. Save. Kill a big daddy, save. Etc. etc.

I hate doing stuff over, even little tiny parts.

Beating hard mode without dying? Good lord. I can see it being possible towards the end of the game but early on (I'm thinking Neptune's Bounty time), Big Daddys will fuck you up and you really don't have the ammo and/or plasmids to take them down quickly.

Eh, with save abuse it wouldn't be that bad. Just save constantly and reload your save if you die. I wouldn't have the patience to do it, but for people who wanted the achievement badly enough it wouldn't be impossible.

I'm really getting pissed about not getting a coffin for my big daddy or even getting a simple email update. Has anyone heard any word yet on the replacement issue?

Yeah, I guess I was thinking about it strictly from the way that 2k probably wants it to be done (saving rarely, as if you were playing it with resurrections). If it gets confirmed and Bioshock gets some DLC worth having (preferably free but I have some cheap-ass points laying around) I'll probably give it a shot. I still haven't seen one of the endings.

Actually Ken Levine said he wanted gamers to save frequently so they could go back to certain sections and experiment/replay them a different way with the weapons/plasmids.

Actually, beating the game on hard without dying isn't that bad. You can postpone dealing with most Big Daddies until you get the good stuff for taking them down.
Did anyone else have problems playing this alone in the dark? God I'm a pussy.
Sadly, yes. I'm stuck on Fort Frolic now 'cause of the freaky scenery.

has this extra 100 been confirmed? It is an odd number and MS has never allowed extra points except the 250pts with expansions.

Nothing has been mentioned on the Bioshock website.

*edit- n/m just saw it on the achievement list on xbox.com

Looks like the 51st achievement is called Bullet Proof, in which you play Hard Mode w/o Vita Chambers. But I have yet to see any hard evidence proving this...
lol nice!!!!!!
Eh, the girl should have been talking about Mr. Bubbles and carrying a giant syringe, but cool all the same. :D

I got through the Medical Pavilion last night - I'm loving this game. I also got my first taste of Adam by saving a Little Sister. Should I be saving them or harvesting them or both? The scene with the first one was awesome - I love how she is backpedaling away from you looking all scared.
I'd reccommend saving them I think you end up with more benifit doing it that way plus you get a better ending.
Same here. After you've saved them all, you'll get an achievement for your kindness.
Sorry if this has been asked and addressed a million times but.....anyone know of any Big Daddy coffins sent out yet or artbooks?
Nothing, and no word on when. The last post on the 9th was that the Big Daddies would finish manufacturing "soon". Of course, they said that several weeks earlier too, and I don't see how that part even matters when they could have gotten the return boxes out weeks ago so people at least feel like something is happening.

I"m not 100% but I think that achievement is for saving/harvesting all the little sisters basically you dealt with them all. Which you should anyway if you want the most out of your bioshock experience. How else would you get ADAM for new plasmids and such.

I am positive about the answer to some questions. Take my advice with cred. b/c I have played through twice and have 1000/1000 acheivements, it was not easy (soooo many diaries). Especially with the branching type decisions where one wrong move will cost you an ach. Yeah I was pissed when I heard about the ALLEGED new ach but until I see conclusive evidence Im not gonna sweat it.

To Jav: Save or Rescue, but most imnportantly BE CONSISTENT!! WIthout spoiling anything I will tell you that if you do half and half, at the end of the game you will regret it. Whichever you choose, stick with it. My advice: RESCUE!! THe difference in ADAM is negligible and you get cool stuff that you otherwise would not by rescuing. BTW, why are you still so far towards the beginning!? You dont have enough gaming time I can tell b/c this is a game that sucks you back for more. You posted weeks ago about it and still just beat the med pav!?

You miss out on a few achievments if you harvest more than one (you will still get them if you harvest one, BUT ONLY ONE SINGLE LS, any more than that you miss out): Namely "Tonic Collector" & "Little Sister Savior".

PhoenixT the ach. you're thinking of is called "Dealt with every LS" and it doenst matter whether to save or harvest to get this one, so long as you deal with every one".

I have no idea about the BD coffins.

OK, cool - looks like I'll be saving them on this playthrough. I can already tell I'll be playing this twice though. And yes, I do not have enough time to game. I got Bioshock when it came out and played it for about 10 minutes and decided I wouldn't pick it up again until I finished Metroid Prime 3 which took me until last week since I get about an hour a night if I'm lucky and the kids and wife are sleeping. I also notice I'm moving super slow because I find the whole experience kind of creepy and I'm inching around corners and stuff. When I think of what I've actually accomplished I could probably get through it all in an hour but I've probably been playing for 5 or 6.

Coincidentally, I just started Bioshock the other day and made it through the Medical Pavillion last night. SOOOO great, just like everyone has already said for the past month or so since it was released. The atmosphere is really incredible with top notch graphics and sound effects. Playing this game in 5.1 is really insane; the sound mix is fantastic.

I'm a pussy when it comes to scary/horror games, so I'm in with the 'creeping around corners' crowd. I've been trying to hack everything as I go along so I don't miss anything...also checking out every last nook and cranny of each level. Needless to say, I'm going to playing this game for quite a while. I've stayed far, far away from spoilers for this game, and I'm so glad I did. Can't wait to see how the story develops....

It should say something about Bioshock that I'm strapped for 'fun' cash, rented and beat it the week it came out, explored every nook and cranny, and am still willing to pay $50 for it this week and wait for Mass Effect.

It's that damn good.

I put it on hold pretty much after beating it the first time, but now I'm thinking about possibly beating it this weekend; although not in a 24 hour, do just about nothing but play Bioshock marathon session, on hard this go around.

Is it possible to kill a Big Daddy and not find a Little Sister nearby? I'm in the wharf and I killed one but no Little Sister...

Also, I suck at this game - a common splicer gets a piece of me every single time and a Big Daddy kills me like 4 or 5 times before I can bring him down...

You have to follow him around until he calls out a little sister.

I just started playing this game this morning, and totally sympathize with javery about inching around corners. I'm always expecting something to jump out at me.

This game is beautiful though. There's so much attention to detail - I keep thinking I've missed something whenever I clear an area.

And, I too am right around the medical pavilion.

So did I eff everything up by killing the Big Daddy?

Big Daddies respawn ad infinitum. In fact, I will be surprised if you do not encounter 3 more Big Daddies after you deal with all the Sisters before you even complete the level.

By the way, SAVE THE SISTERS, dammit. The good ending is worth it.

Ugh. Really? They are a huge pain in the ass to kill. Both of the ones I killed were caled "Rosie" and were in the same area so maybe it was a respawn...

All of the ones with a rivet gun are called Rosie (as in Rose the Riveter) and the ones with the drill are called Mr Bubbles. If they don't have a Sister you don't have to deal with them. They won't attack unless you initiate it, just be careful they don't get caught in crossfire of Splicer fights.

Yeeeep...not a happy moment when you're dealing with a few splicers and then you see that happy, cheerful yellow glow turn blood red.

It's extremely possible

If there are no more little sisters left in that level, you won't get one. Of if she ran back into her whole between your death and the killing of the big daddy, you won't get one.

There are Rosies, who are TOTAL bitches, and Bouncers, who are total (Non caps) bitches with the drills.

They won't start shit if you don't start shit. If they don't have a Little Sister, they won't even acknowledge your existence half the time. Just avoid attacking them or fighting near them and you'll be fine.

Besides, it is fun to Enrage them if they're near splicers.
