The main reason I like the Gamestop ads is they usually offer some discounts on niche games, which generally aren't on sale elsewhere. I bought most of my niche games this year though and will only bite if they offer something like $20 off The Alliance Alive or something.
Yeah I think they’re the only ones who had a sale on Fire Pro last year

Guys, I’m beginning to worry. Are we sure Best Buy will have Early Access for Elite members?
No. It's been cancelled and you have to shop for deals the same time as the rest of us peasant scum and eat a whole fish skeleton from a garbage can for dinner.

In short, relax. They always announce it a weekend before Black Friday and it happens on Monday the week of.

Can't wait to see all the moms in facebook groups complaining about how they bought games for their kids and they can't play them because there is no disc drive. Than they can't return it because it has codes and the kids already opened it.

Stores aren't going to refuse returns just because you "might" have used the codes that come inside...

That depends on the store. I'm sure people will put up a fight and be able to return regardless though.
Not during the Holiday season they won't. It costs the companies more to argue with someone than just give them a refund or a replacement. I've worked retail and I believe Tyrok works at Best Buy. I also am pretty sure they'd have to field destroy a digital only code if it were returned anyway since there is always the possibility it could have been used.

Though it's been years, I too have worked retail and during the holidays. My time at Gamestop we would turn people away who bought products with digital codes with them and the item was opened / used. Instead people would trade them back in as they couldn't return it.

But all stores are different in that regard.

GameStop's return policy is archaic compared to every other retailer that sells video games. They flatout won't let you return an opened system for a refund, yet Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have no issues doing so.

I worked at Gamestop from 2004-2010 and you are correct. I wouldn't include Gamestop in the space of 'large' retailer though since they sell a specific product and are likely more familiar with digital codes than your typical Wal-Mart customer service rep for example.

I can't wait to see all the moms complaining about how they bought a Switch bundle for their kids and they can't play them because it's the older model with the somewhat lower battery life.

I'm guessing that GameStop would more than likely just sell a returned console as used than return it to the manufacture for credit. Best Buy does now have the ability to mark a returned console as "Geek Squad Certified" and sell it used but I don't think it's very common yet.

I highly doubt that happens. They’ll tell the kids to deal or the kids will just assume that’s how long it lasts

They won't complain if they don't know any better. The average soccer mom doesn't do the kind of research that us CAGs do.

Huge, enormous thanks to ThatOneGuyWho who has put together individual Black Friday deal threads for each of the major retailers. This thread will serve as a directory of those threads, deal highlights, and a place for more general black Friday discussion.

You guys can probably link Walmart now...

I wish we knew if Dragon Quest for Switch was going to be on sale. I’ve wanted it for awhile l, and while it isn’t in the ads it always seems Best Buy sneaks more games on their website for early access. Same with Walmart, they always have a bunch of games on sale that aren’t in the ads come Black Friday.

I'm looking for the Star Wars game and the fire emblem switch game. Are there going to be any buy 2 get one free deals where I could pick up a third game with that, like Code vein or something?

Remember when most of us traded in our early model PS4's last year at GameStop for a replacement 1TB slim at no cost with Spider-Man? Good Times! I did end up spending a little since they had a deal on extended warranties so I got the two year warranty cheap. They had pretty good trade-in prices for DS4's and I even got a few bucks for the included headset that came in the older PS4 set.

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete was $9.99 last year as well so I picked that up (still haven't played it). I'd like to see Tetris Effect for $10 either there or on the PS Store.

Tetris Effect was $10 on Pro Day at Gamestop so it's highly possible they put it on sale again.

It is funny you mention this because I was in GameStop today and the ladies in front of me were buying a Switch game and the associate asked if they wanted the protection plan. The one lady said no and the assoc. said once you open the game you can't return it for any reason. She asks even if the game does not work? He said yes. He mentioned the prongs on the cartridge are easy to get damaged and make the game unplayable. He mentioned that is why he recommends the protection plan. This was the first time I heard of any issues with Switch cartridges being easily damaged. I was thinking wow. They really are pushing that protection plan.

Yeah that’s a lie. They aren’t nearly that easily damaged

Another instance of an employee lying to try to push something extra on a customer.

The PS4 deals are also for X1 versions, (and vice versa) right? I guess we won't know till we have complete confirmation, but that is the trend?

Annoyingly no. I'm getting to the point where I assume it's gonna just come out the same day their regular weekly ad does next week some time.
I was feeling the same way lol. Stopped by GS for a trade today and asked the associates if they knew anything about it. One of them jokingly replied “on Black Friday” and the other one told me they have no clue either. Said something about keeping employees being kept in the dark due to prices being leaked in previous years.

Makes sense. I work in retail too, so I completely understand that. My only problem is that Best Buy and Walmart price matches and so may Amazon so we'll see.

4) Mr. Lonely has a post rating a bunch of VR games that is worth a look
Thanks for the name drop. It jolted me out of a depressive state I've been trapped in for the past few days. I do keep an up-to-date list of all the VR games I've played here: https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/358225-official-playstation-vr-deals-and-discussion-thread/page-676#entry14112681

Some of the standout titles I've played so far are Astro Bot, Moss, Blood & Truth and Trover Saves the Universe. Unfortunately I haven't added a lot to it lately because VR sales have been fucking shit this year. I think Concrete Genie for $20 at Best Buy is the only one I'm eyeing, though I hope it falls even lower digitally on PSN. Golem just came out today and I've been hearing good things about that for awhile (which means I'll probably get to play it sometime next year).

But yeah, I swear by my VR headset. It really feels like the future and the next dimension of gaming. While the graphics aren't as sharp as 2D gaming, your mind adapts to your environment quickly and makes you feel like you are a part of the game. Although I would classify most VR titles as shorter experiences more than full-fledged hardcore gameplay. It reminds me a bit of those specialty arcade games you could actually step inside, or even 4D-style attractions at an amusement park. I've had a lot of really cool, unique experiences you can only have in VR. The only disclaimer is if you're partial to motion sickness, you might have a hard time of it at first. Also, PSVR was much better when Littlstar still offered free VR video playback support so you could watch VR porn (which probably explains why I've been so suicidal this past year). Of course, PC models are much more advanced (and expensive) and have noticeably higher res, but for $200—and if you already own a PS4—it's a great, quick, plug & play introduction to the future of games.

I ended up buying an Oculus Go for dedicated use in this department. It's a lot easier because I don't have to keep swapping my external HD around between the computer and the PS4, plus 100% of files play correctly (a lot of times, higher bitrate/resolution files would give a black screen on PSVR).

Of course, the disadvantage is the cost of a completely separate headset, but I felt better paying that vs. the extortion fee.

Oculus Go also eliminates the one thing that annoys me most about PSVR: that one wire sticking out the back which I always get my left arm twisted up in.

I would buy the SAD Xbox One, if it had the same insides as an Xbox One X. I don't own a 4KTV, so I don't really need a 4K disc drive. And, my Xbox 360 works fine, so I don't really need backwards compatibility.

They pulled that on a friend of mine. She got a used Wii U game and it didn't work. When she brought it back to the store they refused to return/exchange it because she didn't get the plan. A different friend was (maybe) a manager at another location and said that was a lie and to bring it to his store.

I've never been inside the stores on Black Friday. Are there ever sales on games that weren't in the Black Friday ad? I'm only asking because my Best Buy probably has over 50 unique PS4 games on the shelves but obviously only the most popular or recent ones are on sale in the ad. Is there any chance of getting a deal on the others if I go inside or should I just wait for clearance?

I'd wait, stores usually just have the Black Friday stuff on sale since that's what 99% of people are there for.

I can't speak about Best Buy, but Target and Walmart have had games that were on sale and not in the ad before. Unfortunately, you have to ask an employee to do a price check for you at Best Buy, but Target and Walmart both have the wall scanners in the store where you can walk a copy of the game over to the scanner in order to check the price of it. I suggest waiting until all the craziness has died down in order to do all that. Two years ago, I went to Target at 7 in the morning on Friday after the crowds left and found a bunch of older games that rang up for $8.

It likely is already discontinued like all PS4 Pro limited editions are the day of release. You should still be able to find it for maybe till the end of the year but doubt we'll see any deals for it.

I'd buy it now before it hits resell prices of $700+ like the Spider Man or God of War PS4 Pros.
I bought the Modern Warfare PS4 Pro since I didn't like the design of the Death Stranding one. So much so that I went and bought a standalone copy of Death Stranding to play on my standard black console. These special edition bundles never last long though, that's for sure.

That might be the most niche console desire I've seen, lol.

I don't live close to any stores that sell games, except for my Target with it's tiny selection. So, most of the games that I buy are digital only. But, with Xbox One, a lot of recent games struggle to play properly on the S, so a digital only console with the same insides as the X, but no disc drive, for maybe $250 or $300 max, would be more ideal than $500 for an X with a disc drive that I won't really use.

It's funny how many people think removing the disc drive should make a console $100 cheaper when its probably only $10-15 in parts.

What kind of disc drive do you think is in the X that it is worth $200?

It's not a matter of what it costs for the part, but providing a good enough incentive for the consumer to choose the gimped version. Nobody would buy a disc-less version of any console that only costs $10-15 less. Hell, nobody buys the SAD and that's $50 less.

If the manufacturer wants to promote all-digital for their own ends, they need to subsidize the product enough so that consumers will be willing to sacrifice their physical ownership rights. Otherwise why would they?

Well the included games and the discount on Game Pass are technically the incentive. I do think the All Digital is over priced but they are obviously doing that on purpose to make it look like a better deal on Black Friday. Surely the price will permanently drop to $200 early next year or whenever they show off Scarlett.

It's removing the option to resell your physical games you would buy, and locking you into digital "I'm the same fucking price as physical when I should be cheaper" games. I think it should be cheaper. It's also one of the reasons stadia is going to flop.
