Folks thinking BBY ending physical media is going to "bite them" have no idea the state of physical media at retail, and the economic forces driving these decisions.
DigitalBits touched on just how immaterial physical media sales are for BBY and how much more likely returns and complaints from the niche collectors were probably resulting in net negatives for the retailer.
Target is going the same route. Nearly 90% of my saved blurays have been oos for all/most of the year. Target is dropping its catalog just like BBY has over the last couple years.
That all said, those who think physical media is dead are grossly exaggerating the impact, too. The sellers are just online and more direct to consumer. Most movie/show collectors already know this. The likes of Kino Lorber, Shout, Vinegar Syndrome, etc. sell directly and are generally fantastic.
BBY leaving physical media is just a natural progression. Physical media options for film/tv remain plentiful.
Now video games is a different matter, of course.
