Just an FYI, I had a couple Preorders through BB that I used promo certificates on. What they did for the certificates (from different orders, but cancelled at the same time) when I cancelled was issued me a new certificate which combined all the certs.

That was earlier this year and I ended up doing it a second time and ultimately stacked 3 certs back into 1 cert. So now that I've seen this work first hand, I'd use this pre-order technique to save certs with expiration dates.
Promo certificates as in the ones NOT redeemed? Like the ones you get from spending $X on the credit card? I was under the impression that If you canceled you lost them. But would be great if you can do this to stack them

it was just a shit year

gamestop gets a gold medal for dropping the ball
Agreed. That said, I think this is the end result of digital games. There just isn't much incentive for retailers to order a lot of disc/cart inventory when 50%-plus of games are now being sold digitally. Let's face it, no retailer can carry the breadth and scope of games comparable to Steam, PSN, or Xbox GamePass. It just means retailers are seeing fewer sales/foot traffic for those items now and thus feel less compelled to order much, which results in less to no excess inventory, meaning no reason put on big sales or offer big discounts.

All of the above, of course, is designed to kill off stores like GameStop. How do you run a used-games store when there are fewer and fewer used games being traded in? The answer is, well ... you can't. The writing is really on the wall for GameStop -- it's just a matter of when it folds now; we're way passed the if stage.

Anyways, publishers all want to be like Nintendo in that they want to be able to maintain high game prices for periods of time after release. I mean, Nintendo still can get away with selling Mario Odyssey for $50 years after its release. Nintendo's customers didn't accept the fact Nintendo games don't fall in price overnight. That behavior settled in over years and years of intentional pricing bars.

I suspect as the industry shifts to becoming even more (and soon almost entirely) digital (let's say 80/20), more and more first party publishers will aim towards the Nintendo model. Infrequent to no price drops, and small discounts during the holidays/special events.

pretty happy with BF week-ish physical:

Switch

SMTV $27

P5R $29

Nier Automata $20

Pokemon Scarlet $40

PS5

Sonic Frontiers $37

GT7 $30

Stray $29

KOF XV $15

I think that about does it

Tons of steam autumn sales too, but my digital haul is robust!

Anyone know if Target started getting standard editions of Persona 5 Royal? Noticed it was back in stock but I guess it's under the same listing as the steelbook version.

No doubt, sadly. And that's when I dip out for the vast majority of games :(.

I spent $5 on The Last of Us Pt 2 and that was it… Game Pass and PS+ Extra helped with that.
Yeah, I imagine the deal of the year for more than a few was stacking years and years of the vanilla PS+ and then capitalizing on the short term PS Now membership to get it all upgraded to Premium. That will be a short term investment that pays long term dividends (and savings).

Pretty sure the ones I used were given out free in their email newsletters. You just had to find the banner that said you had however many $ off and click the link to load the cert. I may have had a $5 one as well for purchasing stuff and it automatically issued it. This only worked with BB. With Amazon they don't do a thing when you use promo credit in a preorder and cancel it.

Yeah and stuff like LEGO Skywalker and Monster Hunter Rise hitting Game Pass. Quality games that I’d usually pick up on BF are hitting subscription services.

See, I think this is sort of the reverse of what happened... it's not that Nintendo trained people to not expect price drops as much as other companies trained people to expect price drops. Pricing dropping 50-75% within a few months, as a rule, results in people waiting to purchase titles (Ubisoft).

I mean, I like cheaper prices, and I'd love to buy Nintendo titles at the discount I buy everything else at, but the flip side is that I don't have to worry about "wasting money" as I know the game isn't going to drop in price radically just after I buy it.

That's not entirely true amazon wise. The credits off orders promos were refundable when canceled on a preorder. People were using that to keep them from expiring and to have them for later instead of using them on bravely default 2 switch or the zero/azure trails games at the time back in q1.

the problem with sony is if its not 20 bucks you can expect to be hosed

not only do you have to worry about further price drops but remasters and remakes and definitive editions and directors cuts and giveaways on psn and you get it

lets not even start on paid upgrades but i think luckily this will not be a thing in a bit

Walmart sent me a cancellation for the order of Breath of the Wild & Link’s Awakening I made on 11/22. WTF? They had them up with the BF sale prices within the last couple days too.

This type of thing is why I'm almost always doing store pickup, too much online cancellation because they mess up their inventories online and then run out/have stuff miscounted/etc.

So my local store still had Breath of the Wild for $29 today. Tried an in store pick up. Got an email that it was out of stock but I can choose to have it shipped for free. Ok. It just arrived by an Uber. (And the driver didn’t know the address so she called me asking what it was…I was confused because Walmart hadn’t sent a text that it was out for delivery or anything). This is just a clusterfuck on their part.

I just bought a watch from Walmart that arrived at...11 PM. I was long asleep. Pretty crazy.

There sure are some entitled folks on this forum. Many are getting things shipped to you for free, and you're all bickering and complaining about it?

There may be some inconveniences, sure, and I've certainly experienced my fair share of wrong and missed packages, but overall, I remain amazed at how well these retail inventories and mail systems work.

Big thanks to all the sorters, packers, and delivery folks out there - y'all are awesome!

Yeah a whole bunch of them (esp delivery folks) are far far from awesome. Being paid to do a job and just throw packages on your porch or leave in the middle of driveway. I’ve seen it.

Majority of delivery folks are indifferent and plenty take pleasure by intentionally effing up your delivery to make themselves feel a little better about their miserable existence.

There are two sides here and honestly my experience is more common with the latter. I can understand when stores make mistakes and it's not the delivery person's fault but there are definitely enough instances where the delivery person's decisions end up hurting the customer, whether intentional (when they don't follow instructions or decide to simply not care) or unnational (agreeing to too many deliveries).

Hello fellow CAGers. Black Friday has come and gone once again, and with it... comes many purchases.

All prices are before tax.

Best Buy (Nov 18):

Lost Judge Eyes (14.99)

Kena (24.99)

Scarlet Nexus (19.99)

Miles Morales (19.99)

Ghost of Tsushima: DC (19.99)

Amazon (Nov 19/20):

Kena (22.00)

Scarlet Nexus (15.00)

Tales of Arise (20.00)

Scarlet Nexus (13.50)

For another year, it was crap. First with BB. Dusk Diver 2 was only 19.99 for PS5. I needed that for PS4. This is how I knew I was getting L's this year. Kena was $24.99 rather than 19.99. They held on the price. It's a deluxe edition so there was always a chance, but still its been a a year & 2 months after a 49.99 release. The digital version was 19.99, which made me laugh. Fortunately, a seller on Amazon had it for 22.00. Then after I get the package, it was available for 21.97. I won't let 3 cents kill me. I'm content.
Update (read bold): Just got Kena for $19.99 (before tax) on Amazon. I got what I wanted.

I placed an order for a game on Best Buy when it said estimated arrival: December 29th. And then a day after I placed the order, the item page moved up the arrival date to December 16th, but my order still says the 29th.

Does anyone know if Best Buy ships items based on product availability or do they go by the date in the system from your order? Meaning, will my order be prioritized behind people who ordered after me because in the system I ordered when it was expected by the 29th?

Wondering if I should cancel and reorder.

Are the Walmart $10 off 50 coupon codes working on games still?

WOWFRESH

PAYPAL10

DISCOVER

HOLIDAY10

They were working for me yesterday when I tested one out, but now I'm getting error messages. Anyone else having luck?

Those codes don’t work for me anymore. Worked once with my other account but most of the time it says not eligible or add $50 more in cart. TRIPLE10 is another code but doesn’t work for me

I miss the sonic frontier $25-$30 deal in black friday, think i cna find something similiar near christmas?
of course. The reviews are mediocre so I can easily see a firesale in the future. I don’t buy digital though it’s on sale now on the PSN store.

WOWFRESH still works, noticed it did and canceled/reordered Ultimate Alliance 3 which dropped to $35...two weeks after I bought it full price thinking it'd soon go out of print. Picked up that and the first Mario Rabbids for $48 with the discount.

Can you explain this deal you got? Been looking for MUA physical

[/QUOTE]Not him, but he probably was able to get it for $35.35 which is what it was for like 2 hours earlier today. It's back up to 50 now. Using that rate plus the other item, plus a code like WOWFRESH for store pickup would've knocked $10 off the total. If you add a filler item you could get it for around $40 with one of those codes, assuming the code works for you.

How does wowfresh work? The item has to be available for both shipping and pick up? Tried on different items. Won’t work
Yeah, it seems to only work if it's available for delivery/pickup in your local vicinity and above the $50 requirement.

I'm glad I found a deal on it within my return window, I'm not really enjoying it early on.

Look forward to Black Friday each year. Thank you everyone for the deals and updates.

Everything arrived, or store pickup.

I didn't know the 14gb portable hdd uses an external power source. Too late now. I missed out on a bicycle and a new pc.

I seem to have missed out on the tots for toys, where every toy deserves a tot. Looks like those toys will be used for the tots for toys event.
