OTHER INFO

I consider deals confirmed when I receive the MAP on every other Thursday. The Map outlines promos and how the store is to be layed out and includes the barcodes for the deals. Also we get the new trade flyers that day as well with new trade values and deals.

Deals usually end on close of business on Monday and begin on open Tuesday (some special ones do start on Thursday usually around labor day, memorial day, etc.)

They also have coupons in magazines for great deals, so be sure to check EGM, GamePro, and several other magazines.

GameRush is starting to expand, so check the store locator every once in awhile to see if one is coming to an area near you.

All BlockBuster's should now accept trades, so the trade in prices for BB and GR should be similar, but normal BBs will not always have the deals that GameRush has.

GameRush accepts game trades without case and instructions and the games can be in poor condition depending on the employee.

You must have a BB account and sign a trade agreement to trade at GameRush.

Please be careful if you scam GameRush (by flipping games) they do have the abillity to ban you from all GameRush locations if they want to (and as I have done but that was only because I was tired of crap PS1...).

Release dates - Go by the shipping date. 9 times out of 10 it is not what the Blockbuster computer says. The computer date is when traditional stores can expect to receive their rental games.

Game Rush receives games typically on Tuesday and Wednesday of the games release. Only reason EB and Gamestop get them a day before is because they get special shipments or their dm picks the games up and brings back that evening (or they are near distribution centers).

Some games have street dates but this is few and far between (outrun 2, halo 2, star wars episode 3, doom 3 are it in the past 6 months).

OTHER GAMERUSH THREADS

Don't seem to be working anymore...I will put them back up on request(pm) or if they become live again.

js are you a blockbuster vp or something, my god get of your soap box and chill out. this argument is stupid some people feel one way some feel the other let it go, this is america
I still think you're misreading the situation.
The way you explain it, it still sounds like the guy was joking to me.
By his statement, he's obviously watching... but I really don't see the malice you do in the comment.

It just sounds like a clerk and a manager trying to be friendly.
I think you think you're doing something a bit "questionable", and taking the most negative view of what the clerk could be saying.
no i think you are mis reading, to me is none of there damn buisness if i buy 10 copies of jade empire or what ever else i want, they only have the right when, i bring in 2 copies of a game to trade. that would be like a cop arresting you before a crime

Man, this store sucks around here.

There is three in the area now, and all three have the WORST selection of used games I've ever seen. There is nothing there that isn't recent (the newest used game was MGS 3 and GTA:SA) and they seem to be stocked to the brim with shitty cheap games (one store had literally 25 copies of Primal, and at 9.99 used that's far from a deal).

Buy 3 get a used game for $5 would be awesome if they actually had used games worth getting. For all the people who have an awesome Gamerush, you're damn lucky. I figured one store having shitty overpriced used games was just a fluke, but all three have virtually the same stock of crappy games that were cheaper new then they are used at GR.

Unless they hide all the 44.99 recent used games somewhere, but i've never seen an employee actually man the Gamerush stand so I can never ask. I doubt I'll go back, because at least Gamestop / EB has variety with used games around here.

Thumbs up to everyone who's Gamerush is awesome.
Yeah, this 10 for $25 deal doesn't sound too great. I've had pretty good luck with the 5 for $15 PS1 deal though. Nothing too amazing, but for $3 each I'm happy. Here's what I found yesterday (all complete unless noted):

Armored Core
Man I cleared out the really good games at my GRs when the 5/$20-10/$35 started I wonder if there has been anything traded in recently for PSX. I didn't even catch that part of the update. I really hope they get something like these for 64 games soon. One of the closer stores is sitting on tons of good games but I'd drain my credit paying the $7-8 each for them.

I am so jealous you found AC. I managed to find Project Phantasma but I need the original and Master of Arenas. I'm such an AC fanboy it hurts sometimes.
Well if I want to bring in 10 NBA Live's at their trade in price then I should, if they don't want to take them then just tell me

More likely than not, people getting thier accounts frozen and being told that thier trades aren't welcome are making a habit of doing it, and an easy to spot pattern develops in one (or more) stores.

Freezing accounts and permanantly refusing trades from an account is likely a last step. The wouldn't do this if you say, flipped one or two copies of a game... or even did that every couple of months.

You can even see it in this thread, but people are developing cottage industries of exploiting this deal. To most things there is a limit of reason... and when that threshold is crossed, that is likely when an account will be frozen.

It's not reasonable to expect to be able to trade in $50 dollars worth of product and then at the end of the process walk out with a $300+ hardware bundle
of a product that would have no problem selling itself.

but don't "ban me for life" for doing that or treat me like I'm somehow a thief, not my fault I can buy low, sell high, which is exactly what they do to customers everyday.

You are not a business. There is no entitlement expressed or implied in ANY documentation between you and the Blockbuster corporation.
In fact, you're on what could be considered the negative end of a binding agreement. Per the Trade in agreement you signed, you give them full power to decide what they will accept and won't.[/
B]

I would never have this problem at any other store, only at Gamerush and if Gamerush knew how to run their stores it wouldn't happen there either.

You didn't sign a trade agreement with any other stores that reads the same as the trade agreements at Gamerush.

But either way I spend a lot of money on games so I don't expect to be treated badly cause they don't know how to price their trade ins.

Whaa, Whaa, Whaa.
If you don't like it, don't shop there.
There have thier policies, which you agreed to.
Sorry Sweeny, you ARE a buisness, just like Blockbuster is. You are trading with Blockbuster for mutuaL benefit and if they are not aware of current market value for a game then caveat emptor. It works both ways as it is not a one way agreement. When you sign the reciept for a trade, you are agreeing to trade and relinquish all rights to return of said merchandise. In turn they have agreeed to accept said merchandise for credit value according to the contract (reciept). Deciding you are a flipper after the transaction may get one banned (for good reason) and is perfectly within their rights, but eliminating someone's credit is a breach of contract, making that manager, or Blockbuster, liable for a civil and possibly criminal penalty regardless of what the original trade agreement states. The transaction itself is a seperate, enforcable contract.

However, I agree that if you don't like their policies, don't shop there. Somehow I don't rthink we're getting the whole story from the Camel-man...
do you guys think it is ok if i do the buy 10 for 25 deal, and then play the games a little for a week, and then trade them 7 days later? i really dont want to get banned because i will lose 22 preorders and 375 in credit
What you can do is carefully explain to the manager on duty (i would speak to the store manager if ya can) what you would like to do and explain that the trade credit you would get back would still be less than the $25 (I can't think of any ten titles $4.99 and under that will get you a combined $25 as most are $1.00 or 50 cents)

They can note your account too so that it doesn't look as bad.

Just explain your situation and be very polite and understanding if they say no (though I would personally since I know you couldn't trade them in for more, and just so long as you don't start a flipping cycle why the heck not? you get to sample some cheap easy games, i get some numbers to tout when you trade them back, blockbuster doesn't lose anything and everyones happy)

maybe there should be two game rush threads --

one to discuss deals
and
the other for people to bitch about how they are abusing game rush and not getting a lollipop for doing it

Great idea.

22 pre-orders credit would have taken over 44 games and $660 of credit. I wonder how you would get $1000 of credit total........
Obviously he's got the system down pat and doesn't need to complain about anything. Jesus, with 1000 credit, just spend the $25 bucks on some cheap games and be happy instead of worrying about trading them back in.

Back on topic, sort of:

God of War trade-in value $30
KOF still at $25

I preferred the thread more when the emphasis was on deals too.

im not going to flip.sucks for my gamerush, and they have been so good to me, and its not worth losing over $1300 in credit/games. im just sort of frustrated because i cant find any games for cheap that get a decent trade in price at GR around me. doesnt matter though. i will just trade some games to gamerush towards the end of summer so i can preorder at least 2-3 360 launch titles.
maybe there should be two game rush threads --

Add a third one for people to whine about not having GameRush's in their markets, so I can have a place to post

Please, please. Let's get back to the deals and values that can be had at GR.
To the person asking if MAT1 is still at $7... it is (for PS2).
js are you a blockbuster vp or something, my god get of your soap box and chill out. this argument is stupid some people feel one way some feel the other let it go, this is america
No, I just think the guy is overreacting.
While I can't know for certain, without knowing the tone with which the store manager and clerk said what they did.

However, by only hearing the phrases, I still think that the clerk was just trying to be friendly, and that the store manager was just joking.

Sorry Sweeny, you ARE a buisness, just like Blockbuster is.

No, you aren't. Different laws and regulations come in to play when you are dealing corporation to corporation and corporation to individual.

You are trading with Blockbuster for mutuaL benefit and if they are not aware of current market value for a game then caveat emptor.

No, you are trading with Blockbuster, on thier terms. You signed this agreement before you started to trade with them. However, they are expected to hold up to thier end of the agreement as well.

It works both ways as it is not a one way agreement. When you sign the reciept for a trade, you are agreeing to trade and relinquish all rights to return of said merchandise. In turn they have agreeed to accept said merchandise for credit value according to the contract (reciept). Which is exactly why on this point I agree with you. If you have store credit built up, and preorders that you have already made, they ARE bound to go through with them.
If they go in and just delete them and refuse to honor them, they deserve to have any action brought against them.

The transaction itself is a seperate, enforcable contract.

I'd agree.

However, I agree that if you don't like their policies, don't shop there. Somehow I don't rthink we're getting the whole story from the Camel-man...

Again, I agree.

That's probably the best advice on the situation. :)

Now, do we have any idea of what games could possibly be part of this deal?
I guess I'll finally go and buy a copy of Freestyle Street Soccer now. :)

I have a feeling they've been heading towards that as they've been getting more established. I have a feeling that as time goes on, the majority of the deals at gamerush will tend to get less and less spectacular, as they won't be needing to try so hard to pull people away from Gamestop/EB.
No, I just think the guy is overreacting.

I just wanted to say one more thing on this topic, then we can get back to the deals.

I have been going to this GR since it opened nearly 2 or 3 years ago. It was one of the first GR in the area. My first trade was True Crime because I hated it and at the time GR was giving $35 plus an extra $5 because it was a new store. So when I go into this GR the manager and most of the workers know who I am.

When I went in this time there were two new people and neither of them were the manager. I feel there is no reason to question what games I am purchasing and then looking up my entire account history just to make sure I am not flipping games. Also the fact that he yelled across the store to his co-worker (in front of all the people in the store) telling him to watch out for me, and to keep my nose clean is highly uncalled for. The other people in the store looked at my like I was going to rob the place. I don't think that I over-reacted, and I believe I was not treated with the respect of one of their most consistent customers.

So in conclusion, next time I go in I am going to talk with the manager and tell him what happened, and see what he has to say. I doubt I will cancel my pre-orders now that I think about it, but I will not trade in any games, or purchase any games or movies from their store (This has been my Blockbuster for years, I used to ride my bike to this one back in the day, and my primary GR for 2 years). There are other stores who do not treat their customers this way.

By the way Cory great job on the thread, you have given us so much information about the deals!

Name, Address, Drivers license/id number and state, any warnings on your account, number of rents, last time you rented, whether its a trade account, how many you have checked out.

Easily accessible from that are what is checked out, birthday, everything you've done from the time you've done it to, to how much to whether you bought a traded item , a sold item, rented a game, movie, what you've traded, when it was traded, how much you received for it, and some other things I can't remember off hand.

Pretty much any and everything.

You're not missing much.

Unless you wanted 25 copies of Primal.

Nobody answered my other question: Does GR hide the used games that are recent? Because I didn't see anything on the shelf that was new or 44.99, at three seperate Gamerushes, and I couldn't find an employee to ask at any of them.

Two of the gamerushs I went to recently I looked through the top trays pretty extensively...didn't find much I wanted. But then I looked under the main shelves to the shelves underneath. Jackpot. I'm not sure if that's everywhere but 2 out of 3 stores had it that way.

Even found a Digital Devil Saga, but it was just case insert + game, no box and none of the other goodies afaik.

edit: well seems that others aren't having the luck with the bottom shelves...but I did find a whole bunch of good stuff on the bottom shelves including GT4, Midnight Club 3 Dub, Jade Empire LE, Pariah, etc.

Hm... all I found was that the top trays were stacked full of games they had 10+ copies for, like Goblin Commander and Alias =/

The bottom trays were pretty much the same, stocked full of Spyro and Tekken Tag. Plus the way the bottom trays are set up I have to crawl under the top trays, and it's full of garbage on the carpet.

I might call and ask, but the last time I called to find out what time they closed, the employee "wasn't sure, but we close late". Not too sure how helpful they'd be if I had a more specific question.

They don't hide them, unless you count keeping them off of the sales floor "hiding".
It varies from store to store, but most I've seen either have a special display for the newest stuff, or they have it behind the sales counter to prevent shrink.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know.

Is there any sort of list I should ask about, or should I just ask to see all the 44.99 used titles? Because I don't really have anything in mind to get, but if I see something decent i'll trade in 3 gba games for it.

Come to find out at my new store they don't have any of the preowned DS or PSP put out for theft reasons.

Chances are this is why you may not find any. Wouldn't hurt to ask to see what they have.

I'll probably try and get the ones out at my store someway once I can make some coverart or go dead on these games (just putting the box on the floor and leaving the game in a locked cabinent).

In a way 22 preorders may not be unusual.

I know I buy over 22 new games a year across all platforms so it is certainly reasonable that someone may want to reserve something now.

Well maybe the manager will come down hard on those idiots especially since you know him and have been doing business there for a long time. Then will you be happy? Cause I'm sure I'd be pissed too.

the csrs usually keep the good stuff off the sales floor as they are mostly recently traded in good games that either they are buying, or that they are holding on the side for friends or good customers who request specific games ahead of time.

So is it possible to trade in 3 games that get, to make this easier, $5 a piece in credit. So I get a preowned game for $5, and am left with $10 dollars in credit.

Can I now get another preowned game, and then another one for free? (Since it's buy 2 get 1 free, and I bought 1 preowned for $5 and another off the shelf).

Or is that considered a double dip, and most Gamerush's won't let you do that?

That preorder $35 deal went real bad for BB. They were mad at me for exchanging... Equal trade. It made me very upset. but I can't pass on this new deal.

Yes, this is considered double dipping and No, you can't combine the trade 3 for $5 deal with the B2G1 deal.

The games you buy with B2G1 deal would have to be regular price.
GR/BB employees - what exactly is the deal with the value cards - is the money stored on the card itself or in a system-wide BB computer? If the latter, then it seems it is subject to tampering if the internal security isn't set up right. It seems that it must be on the system because dont they just scan the activation and reload codes with a hand scanner? Or do they swipe it as well to add the money to the card - I seem to remember them doing one or both at different times. I guess I had better go check my latest card and make sure it has what I think it should have!

Cory has implied that the cards are much safer than credit on your account, so I'll assume I'm better off that way. What do you make of GameDude's story though, Cory? Is it possible for the credit to be taken away from a card (even if it is harder than from an account)? Not that we have a lot of details of his story :D
I'm not sure if the credit was ever actually put on it. I was kinda mad one day and I left and came back in and was like "I would like to cancel my 2 doom 3 preorders. " I looked for a receipt in my car and couldn't find it. I would just like to know if there is a way to track this stuff.

I've got 14 - used the GR deals as advertised to preorder just about everything I'd want to play for the rest of the year. I know someone else here who goes to my store has about the same number. And, prepare yourself, there's another CAG who claimed a few weeks ago to have nearly 70 games on preorder at GR (I'll let him add his comments and ID himself if he wants).

Now that the $5 bonus is no longer with us, I will be more selective about what I preorder - but I still have about 9-10 more games that I am waiting for them to add to the preorder list (hopefully soon since most were featured at E3) - and I will get at least some of them (my problem being I don't have too much more to trade in). When you can trade 2 old games for 1 brand new one with only $10-$20 out of pocket, why not get rid of some of your old junk? I have several games I bought cheap at various times and know that I will never get around to playing. Some I played and didn't like. And, yes, many I bought knowing they would fetch good trade-in values.

It only takes 44 games to get 22 preorders, and that really isn't much if you mine your collection and hit up sales/clearances. While there's nothing wrong with trading in duplicates (after all they ALLOW 2 of the same title PER DAY - but of course, as JSweeney has pointed out, moderation is warranted), it would be very easy to find 44 different titles to apply to the 22 preorders if you wished. You shouldn't (have to) feel like a common criminal for doing so.

Back to deals...

I went in last night and they finally have signs up for the trade 3 get a $5 PO deal, but there wasn't much I wanted except possibly Ape Escape for PSP. I'd rather save my last few trade-in games for preorders. They did have a list, on a fax rec'd May 16th, of all their available preorders, so I was able to look through the lists pretty thoroughly. None of the games I'm looking for are there except that it seems they have the Fire Emblem for GCN sorted out - they now show it with a November release date. So maybe I'll add that (they used to have it mixed up with the GBA version).

They had one copy of the DS Star Wars Ep. III behind the counter (in their preorder pickup area) but said that is the ONLY one they have and they will be getting no more. They are really shafting the DS at this store (no Pac-Pix either).
Another wierd item in the preorder pickup-up area - a sealed copy of Echo Night Beyond :D.

Sounds like, from Cory's last post, that your entire transaction history should be on their computer so you should be able to ask what happened when you cancelled those preorders.

Oh, yeah, here's the list of games I'm waiting for them to add, that I verified were NOT on the May 16th fax that they showed me:

PS2
Tales of Legendia
Okami

GC
Mario Baseball
Mario Strikers
Batallion Wars
Odama

PSP
Burnout Legends
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (this is in for PS2 not for PSP)
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core
Tales of Eternia

DS
Animal Crossing
Mario Kart
(though since these may only be $35-$40 titles I might not preorder them anyway - would have if the $5 bonus and double-dip was still active).

Interestingly, they had Burnout Revenge listed for the DS (as well as the PS2/Xbox). That must have been a mistake, unless they meant Burnout Legends and meant for the PSP - so maybe this is a mixup like with Fire Emblem GCN/GBA.

Asking for specific titles is usually the best way, or ask if they got in any newer games. More often than not, I can cherry-pick the brand new trade in's that have yet to be put on the trade floor because the reps I talk to know I'm a good customer and I'm not going to screw them over or get them in trouble with corporate.

That's not uncommon. I've seen that done at a couple stores, and then others have them in the magnetic theft prevention cases if they put them out on the floor.

Unless you get to overzealous, they probably wouldn't be gunning for you.
If you've been a loyal customer to thier store, and aren't obviously exploiting deals, they'll be happy to continue doing business with you.
The safest thing to do is to try to step away from yourself and look at what you are doing and as yourself "If I worked for this company, would I question what this person is doing?"

If the answer is ever yes, you're probably better off asking someone at the store if it's allowable, or not doing it at all.

Since you seem to deal with preorders there frequently, io, how is your success rate with actually getting your preorders filled?
Back over 6 months ago, I had put in a good number of preorders using a combination of a deal and a store credit, but only recieved about a quarter of the games I preordered. Have they gotten better at getting the games people preorder, or is it still an uncertain proposition?

Unfortunately most of my preorders are for games that come out in the Fall. So far, though, this year, I've gotten about 4-5 with no problems. They were all fairly large releases though (SW EP III, NBA Street Vol 3 for GC, Starfox Assault, Gran Turismo 4). The one I'm worried about is Kirby Canvas Curse for DS - even though it retails for just $35, I preordered it when they had the $5 bonus double-dip active. But since they don't like the DS at this store I'm not sure they will get it. I was encouraged, though, by the fact that they had that one SW Ep III DS game in as a preorder. Maybe they will order the one Kirby just for me (plus one as a rental - they have all the DS games for rent). Another one I'm worried about is NCAA FB 2006 for GC. Their GC selection is pretty weak - but again, I might get the only one they order.

So, in my experience they have been fairly good about getting the preorders in. What did they do for you when they didn't arrive? The only thing I worry about is how they keep track of them - they seem to put them aside for preorders, but since they don't call anyone I'm not sure how long they hold them for you. I'm sure I will lose track of a few of my preorders and not pick them up right away (plus I often go out of town for 2 week stretches). I do have all the receipts from my preorders stapled together so I have a complete list there - I'll have to start writing release dates on those (though it seems release dates for games are not very reliable).

I think next up on my list for delivery (besides the Kirby DS game) are Death Jr for PSP and Psychonauts for PS2. I don't think I'll have a problem with either of those as they will probably get several of each.

It wasn't too bad...
they asked me if I wanted to roll over the credit to another preorder, or just have it dumped back to my account. It's not really a big deal, but it's part of the reason I didn't bother that much with the trade-ins toward preorders promo. If others are successful with it, I'll probably have take advantage of it the next time it come around...

If I can roll over the credit to another I will be fine with that (as long as they don't say the Kirby game, for example, is only $35 so I can't roll it to a $50 preorder when really the deal was $29.99 no matter what the retail price). Isn't the deal still active now? I thought it was active through September (subject to change of course) according to Cory. Although I don't remember seeing the signs up in my GR when I was there last night - now you have me worried!

Ok now... values recieved for Jade Empire, Doom3 CE and God of War-$30 each. Almost up to $300 in credit. Can't wait to preorder the 360!

Sounds nice... especially if you plan to never play those games again.
I would think a preorder on a 360 would be a fairly safe thing, provided your gamerush deals with a decent volume of hardware.
