OTHER INFO

I consider deals confirmed when I receive the MAP on every other Thursday. The Map outlines promos and how the store is to be layed out and includes the barcodes for the deals. Also we get the new trade flyers that day as well with new trade values and deals.

Deals usually end on close of business on Monday and begin on open Tuesday (some special ones do start on Thursday usually around labor day, memorial day, etc.)

They also have coupons in magazines for great deals, so be sure to check EGM, GamePro, and several other magazines.

GameRush is starting to expand, so check the store locator every once in awhile to see if one is coming to an area near you.

All BlockBuster's should now accept trades, so the trade in prices for BB and GR should be similar, but normal BBs will not always have the deals that GameRush has.

GameRush accepts game trades without case and instructions and the games can be in poor condition depending on the employee.

You must have a BB account and sign a trade agreement to trade at GameRush.

Please be careful if you scam GameRush (by flipping games) they do have the abillity to ban you from all GameRush locations if they want to (and as I have done but that was only because I was tired of crap PS1...).

Release dates - Go by the shipping date. 9 times out of 10 it is not what the Blockbuster computer says. The computer date is when traditional stores can expect to receive their rental games.

Game Rush receives games typically on Tuesday and Wednesday of the games release. Only reason EB and Gamestop get them a day before is because they get special shipments or their dm picks the games up and brings back that evening (or they are near distribution centers).

Some games have street dates but this is few and far between (outrun 2, halo 2, star wars episode 3, doom 3 are it in the past 6 months).

Well, my trade account was suspended. Sigh. You know how I mentioned earlier that I had tried flipping, well that, apparently coupled with my over zelous trading of KOF: MI and a couple of flips I just did (the temptation was overwhelming) killed the golden goose for me.

At least they didn't zero out my value card.

I think I'll just sit on the credit until I move back to college and see what those gamerushes can do for me. If anything.

I'm crying tears of sadness here. I went up and did the trade, then as I was purchasing three games, the manager told me I couldn't trade anywhere anymore. I wanted to ask why they didn't warn me, or question the trade I just did ten minutes ago, but just let it go.

Something about playing with fire...

In any case I fucked myself over. I hope this amuses those of you who were wiser than I, and serves as a warning to those who feel the temptation I succumbed to.

when you use blockbuster discounts on games to buy them for less money than you will turn around and sell them back to blockbuster for.

Blockbuster can lose money if you do it enough and start taking more new product (that they paid real money for) than the value of the product/cash you originally gave them.

damn it, why was I this stupid?! I knew I had a history and just got a bit too greedy.
A warning for those in Southeast Michigan. The Troy and Rochester Hills
stores are limiting customers to one trade per day, despite the fact that the
flyer clearly states, "Maximum purchase of 20 pre-owned games per Member
per day." Also, the Troy store will not accept games without cases or Ecks vs
Sever. The Shelby Township store was more than happy to let me get two games
and trade in games without cases. I recommend going to the Shelby Township
store if you are in that area.
Yeah I had the same problem at the Troy store. The guy was a total jerk about it and he would not accept "The Bouncer" since it was "too old". The guy in Rochester was saying that I was flipping games, but I just anted to pick up a copy of Doom 3. But whatever I got what I wanted, and the extra trade in value was on my card!

Every time I pull off a really big scam (or flip as you guys call it) I like to come on here and brag about it so without further ado, I bring to you, SHAMELESS BRAGGING:

Id like to start by saying that ZOOCUBE for the gba sells for 4.99 at eb and trades for 12 at gamerush just a little tip for people who miss the good ol' days of buying 99 cent ps1 sports games and trading those in.

Anyway here is what I did today:

So yesterday I had used my 20 dollar EB gift certificate to buy about 12 dollars worth of merch from there.

Alright so I head back to EB to use the what I thought (and what the employee told me) was 8 dollars left on the thing (since I used 12 of it yesterday). So I get the same three games I got yesterday and took them to the counter. The lady (who I think is retarded or else a cavewoman) informs me that I don't get any change when I use the gift certificate so I might as well use the full 20 today. I thought this meant that there was nothing left on the certificate because I had used it yesterday. So I tell her I used it yesterday but there should be 8 dollars left. She has no idea what I'm talking about and insists that I spend the full 20 rather than telling me that since I used it yesterday I can't use it again. She actually encouraged me to rip them off. So basically the guy wasnt supposed to give it back to me yesterday and there was 20 dollars left on the gift certificate. So I pick up two more games to use the full 20. Here was my EB order.

Extermination (ps2) - 4.99
Zoocube (gba) - 4.99
DBZ game (gba) - 3.99
X-squad (ps2) - 3.99
iridon 3d (gba) - 3.99

The total was actually something like 21 dollars with tax. It took the cavelady a good 10 minutes to figure out how to use the gift certificate. She was hitting all these keys and then finally figured out all you have to do is scan the gift certificate and it works. When she did this my total was reduced to 0.00. She just gave me the games and I left. So basically I used one 20 dollar gift certificate to get about 35 dollars worth of games from EB thanks to retar.ded employees.

So I took my stash with a nice little ghost recon 1 from my collection to the novi gamerush. When I got there I uncovered a Splinter Cell Chaos Theory which trades for 30 that I had hidden in a stack of nfl 2k3s yesterday. So I took it to the register.

I traded in the following games:

ghost recon - 7.00 (got it free with purchase of XB)
zoocube - 12.00!!! (I got this free at EB but its normally priced 5.00 that's 7 dollars profit if I bought it with cash)
extermination - 1.00

So the chaos theory was 5 dollars and I had 20 in credit so I got the splinter cell 0 out of pocket and they paid me 14 in credit just to take it from them.

Next it was off to farmington hills gamerush. So I go over to the used section and immediately spot a midnight club 3 which trades for 35....but that wasn't good enough I knew what I wanted...I wanted Unreal Championship 2 for my personal collection. So I go up to the counter and ask for it...and there...hidden under a newly traded in xbox was a copy of unreal championship 2. So I took that instead of midnight club 3.

Traded in:

DBZ - 1.50
xsquad - 1.00
iridon - 1.00

as I traded those in I asked the guy who works there

"do you guys have that trade 3 get a game for 5 deal?"

he responded with

"unfortunately"

to which i responded:

"LOL! OMG! WTF!! fuck!! LMAO!! LOL! LOL!"

Yeah so basically

Using one 20 dollar gift certificate from EB and 1.50 out of pocket I have aquired 3 games which I will trade for a total of 100 dollars. I can trade those in and get another game which trades for 35 which means in the end I will have turned a 20 dollar EB gift certificate into 140 dollars gamerush credit (the 130 for the games plus an extra 10 thanks to zoocube).

I am a god.

Wow, a lot of Michigan GameRushers here.....Hopefully all the good games are not bought up by the time I try to trade...which may be by the end of the week (I need to get some trade-in games)

i was banned but havebeen allowed to trade with only one store, after talking to dm, all i can say is be nice as hell, and fair warning to all cag becareful they can trace your everymove

The managers are all very aware of flipping. The video manager was telling me that customers are going to be flipping games like crazy with this deal. Obviously corporate has realized the promotions can be abused easily and is telling the managers to start limiting trades.

if you have a meijers near by, buy king of fighters 2:Maximum impact which is $10. it gets $25 at gamerush. that is a great way to build up trade in credit.

Hmmm... It would have been good to ask. If you are already banned "playing with fire" wouldn't do you much harm :D. I'd want to know if it was just the flipping, or the trading in of multupes of one game. I mean, they could always just refuse that game from you if that was all it was. I would think it had to be the flipping more than the game trading.

Anyway, when I went into a regular BB the last weekend of the $5 bonus deal (I mentioned it here - the one that rejected NBA Live 2004 but took the rest) the woman there actually told me, at first, that I was no longer allowed to trade in there. I was a bit surprised as I hadn't traded in at that BB very much, but after hearing things here I took it in stride. Apparently, though, it was just that her reading comprehension that was a bit lacking. She asked if she should call the manager who was on vacation and ask about it. I said not to bother, but SHE insisted because she was curious. Well, it turns out that what the note on my account (put in by the manager) actually said was that I couldn't trade in GAMEBOY games any more - everything else was fine (and fortunately I didn't have any GBA games with me at the time!).

This was the store where the manager told me a few weeks ago they weren't accepting Gameboy games any more and I went in a about a week later and a different employee then took 2 of them from me. So I guess I might have PO'd the manager and he put the note on my account - fair enough. Except that I call a slight amount of BS on it, because if they weren't accepting GBA games as a policy then all the employees would know about it, the other emplyee wouldn't have accepted them, and they wouldn't have to put a note on JUST my account :D. I think he didn't want what I was trading in personally that first day - if he had just said we don't want THOSE games that would have been perfectly fine with me. I think just ONE of the GBA games I brought in the second time was one I had brought before, so I certainly wasn't dumping massive amounts of crap on them.

Anyway, my point is that I didn't get 'banned' even for that (though I might have personally pissed off the manager), so I would definitely want to know what was up if I really did get banned - especially if there had been no warning before. Also, since I know I'm on slightly thin ice at that store, I don't intend to go back there again - or at least for a very long time (if they reinstate the $5 bonus next year or something I might consider it). This is a normal BB and not a GR anyway, so no big loss. I had actually bought a few new games and DVDs from them so I certainly didn't feel I was ripping them off.

Oh, and being paranoid I checked my value card (the one where I didn't think they swiped it to add the credit) at a different BB, and it is showing the exact value I expected!

Because of all these stories (but mostly because of the end of the bonus :)), I'm definitely taking a break from game trading and will only do it at GR if some of the better newly announced E3 titles get added to the system. I'm also going to be careful and only trade in things I haven't traded in at all before. Hmmm... Zoocube, eh? Haven't done that one yet :D

Using the trade 3 get 1 used for $5.

MTX-Mototrax $11.00
Morrowind GOYE $8.00
Metroid Fusion $5.00

Grabbed Midnight club III DUB. Had some left over credit so grabbed Dungeons & Dragons Heros new for $19.99. For $2.49 out of pocket worked out great.

The gametrader was talking to some girl about her boyfriend that apparently was banned from trading or was under suspicion of theft. Something about how if he came in they had to follow him around. Kinda crazy. Sounds like nation wide they are really cracking down on abusers. I'm sure we'll be hearing more whine stories in this thread.

Come on, now. You have to be smart with this. Buy your cheapy trade-in fodder from somewhere OTHER than a Blockbuster or GameRush, sillies. *waits for his cheapo 2004 sports games to arrive from EBGames.com*

And for the sake of bragging -- wrong forum I know, but still on topic, right? ;) -- here's what I got today:

Tony Hawk 2X, Tony Hawk 4, Mark of Kri, and a dollar magically turned into Jade Empire LE.

Ribbit King, two cheap games totalling $9 from EB up the street (Mace Griffin, NFL Fever 2004), and 50 cents netted me a Doom III LE.

Both are in pristine shape. I'm so glad this lasts until September. I work at Blockbuster, so I'll be all over this deal.

Blockbuster can lose money if you do it enough and start taking more new product (that they paid real money for) than the value of the product/cash you originally gave them.

damn it, why was I this stupid?! I knew I had a history and just got a bit too greedy.
that's what i figured flipping was... but i have a stupid manager telling me that if i trade in games from TRU that I got on 90% off clearance that it's "flipping"... wtf?

He would'nt let me trade in some $1.50 games I had... idiot.

buying stuff at another store and trading it at a competing store is fine right?
Wow, a lot of Michigan GameRushers here.....Hopefully all the good games are not bought up by the time I try to trade...which may be by the end of the week (I need to get some trade-in games)
Well hopefully others will flip games back that I want (Unreal Championsip 2 and Forza)!

The Troy store had 4 copies of Doom 3. If anyone finds a Forza and flips it to another store let me know which store its at.

The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan Gamerush will allow multiple trades.
The manager over there is very cool and polite. However, there was
not much there in terms of new releases except for Dead to Rights II.

is the buy 1 get 1 free on PS1 games at all blockbuster stores. I went in to 3 stores and asked, but none knew anthing about new ps1 games going on such a sale. I saw 2 copies of symphony of the night at pleasantville, CA passing through. What is this promo called, or should I just tell them to call another store, preferrably the store where I live, since I am in San Jose for the week. Any advice, help, etc is much appreciated.

I used the b1g1 free today on Symphony of the Night as well. It was with the other barcodes that they scan during the purchase.

Alien Trilogy (long box, disc is minty)
FF IX gh
FF VII gh
Castlevania sotn gh
Die Hard Trilogy gh
Fighting Force gh
THPS 1
THPS 2
Tobal No.1 (no manual)
Mega Man Legends

buy 2 get 1:
ps2 Wipeout Fusion 9.99
ps2 Klonoa 2 9.99
gc Go! Go! Hypergrind (no manual) 12.99

Jade Empire LE (trade 3 get one for $5)

im thinking about trading in my psp so i can afford 2 next gen consoles. gamerush gives $170-$175. anyone know what gamestop gives? i know they have a promo where if you trade a system towards a preorder, you get an extra 20%. id put all the money towards a xbox 360
Come on, now. You have to be smart with this. Buy your cheapy trade-in fodder from somewhere OTHER than a Blockbuster or GameRush, sillies. *waits for his cheapo 2004 sports games to arrive from EBGames.com*

Well, that's what I, and many others on this thread, have done. It sounds like the banned people, though, have really been flipping the games from one GR to another. However, I could certainly see an overzealous new (perhaps) manager banning people who have come in with more than one cheap game (even if not at the same time) or even just a bunch of different cheap games. They might very well *think* you are flipping even if you got them from TRU, Target, EB, or perhaps even your own crappy collection :D. The problem is that you really wouldn't be able to do anything about it. That's why, even though I don't think I've come close to violating any stated or unstated policies, I think it is good to lay low for a while.

i'm pretty sure it is b/c i've already seen the deal at 2 separate gamerushes in SoCal. best of luck to ya :)

any adivce...

sort of want to trade in my psp. i really like it, but i would rather have an extra next gen console. i got my psp with 4 games for $225 (thanks to FYE and GR), so i will be making money. i have already sold THUG 2 and ridge racer (got me $59). GR gives me $170 for the psp, not sure about gamestop. id assume with the extra 20% it should be more. after trading in my psp/games, and cancelling all my POs, id have $600. what do you guys think? after seeing next gen graphics, the PSP just sort of seems outdated to me.

also, im not a huge handheld gamer. i just bought into the hype, and the price was too good to resist.
Every time I pull off a really big scam (or flip as you guys call it) I like to come on here and brag about it so without further ado, I bring to you, SHAMELESS BRAGGING:

...

I am a god.
umm, careful now.

and for those of you with large amounts of BB credit, you might want to make sure this is split across a few value cards. The managers I've delt with seem to get real interested, and really irritated when they see large sums. Especially when they see that sum INCREASING over time.

In order to avoid flipping...anyone know the estimate value of games that give $35 store credit at gamerush at other stores? (ex. gamerush gives $35 credit for Star Wars Ep. III, but how much does eb, gamestop give?)

Yeah, this has worried me a bit. I have 3 cards, and none are THAT huge, though they sometimes make some sort of snarky comment when ringing me up with the larger one (friendly, but they do notice for sure). These are just regular employees who don't care *too* much. My cards from now on should be decreasing though. Anyway, without knowing your trading history they can't get too upset at someone with a $200 or $300 balance after the wonderful $5 bonus trade-in deal they just had. It wouldn't take a large portion of someone's old games to reach that type of money - so I don't think they would get too suspicious until you start getting up near $1000. And even that, I imagine, you could do without flipping (no, I don't have nearly that much!).

I'm glad a large portion of my trade credit is tied up in preorders - they don't know for sure (especially as new employees come in, and there seems to be a lot of that recently) that all those came from trade-ins and not cash out of pocket :D. Not that it MATTERS, as I didn't get my credit through flipping - but I don't want any suspicion to fall on me...

i also found out if you are suspended, you lose all preorders you have, i had 12 or 13 preorder they said were nul and void. thats when i went in to action, and in my opion this promotion sucks ass, like io said you could bring games from other stores like eb, gamestop, or other places and one perosn think you are flipping and boom , you are suspended

I assume you got this fixed. I don't think legally they cancel something you already bought on pre-order. I mean I'm sure they could cancel the preoreders and pay you 12x50 but I don't think they want to pay you $600.

Can anyone else confirm that they will give an extra 20% for the trade in of a system toward a pre-order because if so I will gladly trade in my gamecube and all my gamecube games to start up my reserve for Xbox 360.

I just wanted people to know that the extra value you can have on a card is $500. I had one card that I always used and when it hit $500, they would not add any credit to my card. So then I had to get a new card to put the extra credit on. I put that card away and plan to use it to buy the Xbox 360!

Also I traded in a few games the other day to pick up Doom 3 and MC3.

(x2) Nba Live 2004 (Xbox) - $5 (they dropped it finally)
King of Fighters: Maximum Impact - $25
Custom Robo (GC) - $12.50
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within - $14
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory -$35

This is a great promotion since I get so much extra credit added to my account and I get games I wanted!

Yes and No. About credit on value cards.

The only way they could do anything to the card is if they have the full number to it.

The full number does not print out on anything I'm aware of. On any page/receipt/etc its only the last 4 digits that show. the rest are just x's

even so it would be a pain. They would have to prepay the card onto an account, then do a reverse credit, and then clear out the account. This huge credit would show up on a report in the morning and the mod would have to note what it is and may find it odd.

Then you could argue that the credit on the card was yours, especially since it's in your possession.

I can confirm the $25 deal.

Its any ten preowned games priced for $4.99 or less for $25 (if it read the thing correctly).

I believe its good beginning now but it says for this weekend and next. We had it fed exed yesterday to my store.

that maybe different than how I remembered but should be close (it was my first day at the new store yesterday and I'm exhausted from star wars being right after).

thanks for the update.

When the BB employee scans your card, what do they see on the computer screen? From what I gather, it's at least your pre-order list and the rentals you still have out. anything else, like a brief transaction history?

and what's the difference between a BB value card and a gift card?

thanks

Cory,

So credit in my account is it safe? I assume that an employee can not delete my money without a manager approval.

I only have like $30 credit but still.

It seems like it would be pretty reasonable to sue blockbuster if they delete your credit. They all ready got screwed for boasting "no more late fees" and had to change that slogan. Does anyone else realize that they charge 7.99 just to RENT a game that's like something a pirate or a barbarian might charge. The way I see it blockbuster owes it to us to let us do a little flipping every now and then.

Good lord - did they also impound your car and kick your dog? :D No, seriously, if they really told you all your credit was void and all your preorders were void, without giving you any compensation for them, there's got to be something you can do. I don't care how much flipping you were doing - as long as you weren't stealing games from one store to flip to another, I don't see how they can justify this extreme of a measure.

Seems the *worst* they could do would be to give you cash for all your cards, and give you $30 back for all your preorders, since presumably you used the 2 for $29.99 deal on them, and then never let you set foot in the store again. Sure they might be out a few bucks depending on how much flipping you did (but giving only $30 for the preorders should probably make up for that), but it would at least bring some closure to the issue without stealing all your money. Banning you AND taking all your money is strange.

Edit: Actually, they really should let you keep all your cards, and dump your preorders back onto your cards (at $30 apiece), thus making you spend the money at BB (without being able to do any more trading), instead of giving you cash. The cash option was just if they really wanted to get rid of you for good. Either way it seems harsh.

Another item for SE Michigan Gamerush people. I went into the Bloomfield Hills store today and traded in:

King of Fighters (25)
Tony Hawk 4 (1.50)
Nba Live 2004 (5)

Well they had Jade Empire as the newest used game and I wanted to pick up a copy for my brother. So I go up there and the guy starts looking at all my other trade ins, and games I purchased. He sees that I ordered Jade Empire, and he says "Why are you getting this game, you already have it" and I tell him its really none of his business, but I want a copy for my brother. Then he yells over to the other guy, "Watch out for this one" and then tells me, "Keep your nose clean". I was pissed off. I am going in when the regular manager is there and cancelling my 3 pre-orders from that store and moving them to another store. Screw them.

Well, I stopped at my Meijers today and KOF:Maximum Impact was marked $30....there was no one around to check the price, so I said screw it.

I did trade in 3 cheap-ass games though and picked up Unreal Championship 2....I may trade this back in, not sure yet....I gotta give it a good whirl. I didn't like the demo much, but I only played briefly.

Is the trade-2, get a pre-orderr for $30 still going on? I may just do that after I get two decent games from the trade-3 deal.

I don't want to get anything suspended, since I have about 8 games on pre-order. Although, my GameRush is pretty cool. I may pick up some PSP games also...since my GAmeRush has about 6 Pre-Owned copies sitting there....I DO NOT have a PSP yet though....I may get one, not sure.

Traded-
GC-Metroid Prime (no cover)-$5
PS2-XIII-$1.50
PS2-R: Racing Evolution $3

Bought Star Wars Episode III (XB) for $5.
+ used the B2G1 Free deal to get Rumble Roses(19.99), Zookeeper(DS, 19.99), and Yugioh Capsule Monster (Something like that for PS2, 19.99) all for about $43 after the promotion.

What is funny is the people doing the deals and trying to get more games are their best customers, even the people who they feel "rip" them off have the potential to be their best customers, if they have a deal that can be "flipped" they shouldn't do the deal, it is that simple, otherwise they are just making enemies/pissing off the people that could possible buy the most games from them. Why do that to your hardcore gaming crowd. I use to spend tons of money at EB and Gamestop, but now all my money goes to Gamerush, sometimes I win on their deals, sometimes I lose, but I never want to be treated like I somehow did something illegal or treat me as good as a shoplifter, I AM A CUSTOMER, if you don't like your deal then again I state, don't RUN IT.

how the hell do they owe us anything? we are getting games for 1/3 of the MSRP. if anything, you owe them something. what you owe them is not to flip. its tempting as hell for me, but i have enough already. dont want to be greedy.
Also, no XBOX 360 system to pre-order yet.
crap. thanks though. saved me a trip. i hope they have 360 launch games by the end of the month

This new trade in deal is great!

Traded today at BB:

NBA Live 2004(xbox) - $5
Madden 2004(xbox) - $1.50
Auto Modelista(PS2) - $5

I walked out with an absolute mint copy of Devil May Cry 3 and $6 credit. I can't wait to head back tomorrow for some more trade-in goodness!

The lady who checked me out today was the same one who checked me out last week during the $5 bonus deal. She told me she got in trouble because she accepted some sealed games from me. She got on the phone and had to call someone because two of the games I traded today were also sealed, and I heard her say that thesame guy is back again with more sealed games. Needless to say, I had to unwrap them this time before I could trade them in.

Blockbuster has really been helping me improve the quality of my game collection lately, and it has only been at the expense of a bunch of worthless cheapass games. I must say it's great to be a CAG!
