Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only

ha.. all this talk about center channel..

i have a puny center channel from my old jvc..200w .. but i guess that doesnt mean anything

also got my xfiles 2 pack today:)
The center channel is definitely worth some extra money (in relation to your budget). All of your dialogue comes from there so drop a few extra bucks on it if you can.
Mostly, the front left and right are also crucial in most dialogue heavy movies such as comedy.

My center channel I think was about 400ish.. can't remember its been a while @_@

So Tommy Boy had some great features, great movie, great audio.. but the picture is dreadful :( Other than that Id definitely recommend it to fans.

I forgot how funny Dodgeball was.. not sure what the "unrated" Cut has extra though.. I havent noticed any differences.
so for those that get TDK, please pay attention to the IMAX and widescreen ratio shifting and let me know if it bothers you as much as it bothered me. If nothing else, someone should start a petition to release a widescreen ratio only version of TDK in blu-ray, or at least an update that gives us the option to turn the ratio shifting off.
What??? They gave us the movie exactly as the director wanted us to see it. Let me guess, you're a fullscreen fan too right?

And they raised the price an extra $30. Enjoy guys! I'll stick to my HD DVDs.

The scene after the credits in dodgeball haunts me...
The scene after the credits in dodgeball haunts me...
Lmao yeah..

Also the easter eggs.. apparently there are multiple ones. Theres an icon to click on and it lets you know (Well stiller in a fat suit does) that to find all of the hidden features you need to hit ENTER each time his character snaps his fingers.

Good luck finding all of those. If anyone does let me know.

Who did and from what price? Or will it just make me cry inside?

EDIT: I did some searching. Big differences in the prices.

Amazon $76.99
Best Buy $114.99
Circuit City $109.99
Wal-Mart $83.86

Hopefully that CC price will drop. I have one last GC that I've been holding onto specifically for this.
Thanks.

$77 via amazon.

MSRP is $120.

Thats gotta be a mistake. Theres no way in hell its ever gonna sell at 76 bucks. $25 per movie? They are catalogue titles (Well, two of them anyway) @_@
cool.. got an invite for the live chris nolen chat bd-live event
Rats, I haven't even gotten my copy yet. Is (was) there a way to sign up without the disc? Hopefully I'll get it this week, but I'm thinking early next week for sure.

Not a mistake...I'm sure Universal wants to make some of their money back from being pushed out of Q4 into...shuffer...Q1. I don't blame them. Hey, at least you get a fancy slip case!!!
IIRC, Universal tends to overprice all of their titles though.
All of them have been $29.99 MSRP...so $19.99-$24.99 in stores. They have, by far, been one of the better studios in pricing catalog titles besides Sony and Warner (sometimes). Best part is when they do their 2/3 packs you can nab them for about $15 each!

Maybe target will have an exclusive case like Jason bournes head for a mere $80!

I guess I was thinking back to earlier in DVD's lifecycle (my Suncoast days). They were generally higher than just about all the other studios. I was looking at some BR's today and it looks like Disney/BV is at/near the top. $35 for National Treasure!? That's probably MSRP but still, try again.

one of the checkpoints was that you needed to access the bdlive menu through the disc

Damn... suddenly the $40 or so I paid for both "National Treasure" films on Blu is a deal. The worst studio to me as far as price is Fox. Their MSRP levels are the same regardless of if the film is an special edition or bare bones.

As far as "Dark Knight" is concerned I find the Bluray a bit letdown in terms of picture. The edge enhancement is noticeable to me along with the aspect ratio change. Sorry but I'm very letdown by this release. My HD-DVD copy of "Batman Begins" is far better than this.
I think I also will be sticking with my Bourne HD-DVDs.
Same here. I think I picked up the first two on a B1G1 from BB, and the third one was the same as a B1G1 with Transformers.

All told, I think I paid around $40 or so for all three of them. So, no, I can't see swapping to the BR versions for quite some time.

Disney and Warner have both raised MSRP on new catalog titles since the demise of HD DVD. Disney use to be cheap, along with Sony, but they raised it all up $5. Warner is the same way, and continues to push stupid shit like a Promo CD in Beetlejueice for an extra $10 over MSRP.

Paramount and Universal have both brought most of their previous HD DVD titles cheap to Blu-ray (with some early exceptions from Paramount like Beuwulf probably because it was still a fairly new release).

2009 will be very, very interesting. You will probably start seeing 2 Disc DVDs phased out in favor of Blu-ray (so a standard DVD and Blu-ray edition). The price between the two will look even worse :whistle2:# Oh, and a Digital Copy with nearly all Day and Dates. Wonderful. And just like Nightmare Before Christmas, Disney can charge as an extra $5 for it!

As far as BR prices and LE/CE/SEs, I dunno if it's going to down quite like that. It still seems like DVD is outselling BR by an overwhelming margin. Even with HDTVs selling well (or priced to sell well), there's still the option of upscaling DVD players which are still quite a bit cheaper than even the cheapest BR players. Until the cost of BR players is significantly lowered overall, I don't see BR making enough headway for the studios to try and gouge higher premium prices on discs than they already are.

And yeah, I'm keeping my Bourne HD-DVDs. My whole goal with BR is not to replace what I already have unless there is a supremely compelling reason (i.e. ultra cheap or extra feature overload) to.

Agreed with the last bit. The only thing I'm even considering is Blade Runner, just because it's impossible to get a case.

I know it's probably already been discussed but is the 3 disc WALL E worth it ?
I'm wondering if any 3 disc owners are having any regrets .
Thanks guys .
The DVD was included in only special Wall-E sets, right?
Its a digital copy for iPod/Zune etc.

Well...the only different between the 2 disc and 3 disc set is the Digital Copy and Slip Cover...I'm happy.

My Dark Knight Digital copy isn't acknowledged by my Zune software .
