Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only

Yeah, Eagle Eye's about all I have on my radar for the rest of the year...still deciding whether it's worth a blind buy or just a rental though.

Some notable catalog releases I ran across:

Antwone Fisher 1/20
Groundhog Day 1/27
Napoleon Dynamite 2/3
Passion of the Christ 2/17

Plus, Quantum of Solace probably in March. MovieStop already let me transfer a preorder to it.

Anybody getting the Harryhausen set from amazon right now (besides shrike :))? I'm so tempted, but must resist...

Rent it.

Maybe old, but I don't frequent the thread much, is there a confirmed US release date for Sin City on BD and what cut will it be?

Feb/March....announcement very soon. All features from the DVD (unlike the Canadian BD). No idea on the cut. Of course, take this with a grain of salt...*cough*

Yes, but no mention of the unrated/extended cut.. which blows.. which means they will just rerelease it again when sin city 2 comes out..

I strongly recommend passing on the canada import and the one "supposedly" coming out until the full one comes out.. the special features are a MUST..

otherwise just get the 2 disc special edition DVD thats a little old.. @_@

Just got done with the Dark Knight/Chris Nolan Bd Live thing .

Pretty cool , I could see it going from text answers to voice answers in the future .

All of THESE are coming April 7th....

.... I'll take Final Destination and 2010. Now only if Warner finally gets off their collective asses and gets Barry Lyndon out on Blu. That film badly needs it.
Are all Blu-Ray coming with a Digital copy now?
In 2009 - 90% of Day and Dates will in some form.
When will Universal ramp up Blu-Ray catalog releases? I really want Tokyo Drift on Blu along with Love, Actually.
 They are more concered getting previous "good" HD DVD titles out first (and shit titles like 8 Mile and Street Fighter)...and then they might actually give a damn. I know of about 15 or so Uni catalog titles that will be announced in the next few weeks...all of these are previous HD DVD titles. They have an interesting 3 pack planned for Valentines day...which baffles my mind considering the content of 2 out of the 3 films (never seen the 3rd...I imagine most didn't when it hit HD DVD due to bad timing...well, actually 2 out of 3 due to bad timing). Just because they have a female in it means it Valentines Day worthy? Oh boy.
Which studio's digital copies work with the Zune ?
What is Zune, .wmv?

I think only early Warner titles do (Speed Racer, Lost Boys II) since they have now switched over to (or now included?) iTunes. I usually don't give a damn about the DCs so I don't check very often.

The Dark Knight WMV is not recognized by the Zune or it's software , so I'm assuming all of Warner's digital copies won't work .

The earlier ones did.. speed racer.. harold/kumar.. etc.

if not you can just convert them.. @_@

I like digital copy movies.. i just wish apple would get off their rich ass and make something bigger than a 32gb :(

To anyone who is thinking of buying Resident Evil Degeneration

my review will be up tomorrow... really disappointed with it.

It does have outstanding audio/video.. which is a plus @_@ But the story is rather... meh :(

Has anyone seen Gunbuster vs Diebuster and can comment on the quality of the disc and the movies themselves? I saw the package at Best Buy today and it was screaming my name. :D Amazon has it for $55 had I'm highly considering picking it up.

It's way better than the Live Action!

No way. Those all have nudity in them, this had none :( Really disappointed with it.

I hope that's not the only reason you are disappointed. I mean, if that's the big drag for you about the movie, I think I'll take my chances. Besides, story has never really been RE's strong suit, barring RE4 maybe, but even that was pretty ridiculous.

Well, the Live Action REs needed Mila's deliciously naked body to compensate for...everything else. :p

Does that mean RE: Degen has nothing redeeming then?

No, this one's story is ridiculous and exactly like the other resident evils. Its incredibly predictable, and the ending is ludacris. They completely threw out all the rules of zombies and infected in this one. I can't recommend you buying it.. its a rental at best. The special features are fairly lame and the BD exclusives are only mildly amusing.

The audio and video are spectacular for the film...

Got TDK and Tropic Thunder for Christmas. Hope to get Band of Brothers tomorrow.
Just watched Dr.No on BD....holy crap what a spectacular transfer. Movie looked fantastic.
Can't wait to check it out. Got all the Bond movies from Amazon when they had that deal a few weeks back. I had rented "From Russia with Love" from Netflix, and I thought it looked great.

Yeah I did the same, 6 Bond movies for $40 was too good a deal to pass up. Dr.No was the first one I watched and if the other transfers are comparable, well worth the upgrade. Can't wait for more on BD.

Anyone know if the Blu-Ray release of Band of Brothers is a HUGE step up from the DVD version? I've only found one review so far, but there's no comparison of it to the previous release. And anyone aware if there are any plans at all to give Rome Seasons 1 and 2 the hi-def treatment at any point? I'm tempted by the Best Buy sale to go and pick it up since I've been itching to watch the series.

Rome could be, but right now studios are more focused on new seasons rather than old ones.. (The exception is Dexter, obviously).

Yes, it is a huge step up.. and for what was it like 38 bucks? Yes id get it.

Depending on Dexter S1 sales, S2 and S3 may come out at the same time on BD. There are several other titles that will be announced shortly from Paramount...one is a big WTF considering the demographic.
