Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only

Oh sorry guys. I get my cheap Blus from hotmoviesale.com. I use a PayPal VCC though becasue they sign you up for a subscription. You can cancel all of your acounts right after you create them and you can still get them. Every Blu-Ray is $5 off for every new account and you can use the promo code 8QNA8T78P7 for an extra $10 off. Cancelling is very easy via smartsavingscenter.com. So far I have received:

King Kong- $7.84
Punisher- $1.50
Reservoir Dogs- $1.50

And I have four pre-ordered:

Afro Samurai-$11
Napoleon Dynamite-$12
Friday the 13th-$8

Donnie Darko-$12

I am sorry for not saying where I got them before, but it works flawlessly.

it's a good movie.

well worth the buy.
Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway comes out tomorrow. Though, I'm probably the only person who wants to get it, has anyone seen it for less than $30?
You're not the only one looking for it cheap. The best I could find is Amazon for $27.99 so far.

Interesting...

Yes, very interesting. They also don't charge on pre-orders until they ship. I just ordered Little Miss Sunshine and Clerks II at $12 each.

Picked up Zack and Miri and Office Space.

I really hate how they removed the "make a porno" tagline. It's such a trivial thing, but still.

Okay, so, apparently there's two versions: Wal-Mart and Target are carrying Zack and Miri with a neutered cover, other places have the cover that has "make a porno" on it..

Still trying to find out if the content is the same.

I believe so. the only difference is that walmart removed porno from it. Everything else should be the same.

Yeah, this actually works. I've received a couple of cheap dvd/BRs there. Smartsavingscenter.com does charge a $1.00 processing fee, though. Still not bad for $15 off and free shipping.

Content is the same - Wal-mart just didnt want the "make a porno" line on the cover.

Wow... Mirrors is the worst Blu-ray PQ wise i have seen. Wildly varying quality per scene and distracting amounts of distortion and grain. U G L Y

Its how it was intended to be. Its supposed to be "dark and murky" since its a horror film.

And dont say worst until youve seen The Big Hit :(

or Wall Street... I think it would have looked better in standard def broadcast TV

I've seen dark and murky before, but never the amount of background movement and jaggies on still objects as in this film. :puke: It seriously looks worse than the intentional trashing of Planet Terror!

and you are right i havn't had the displeasure of seeing the Big Hit or Wall Street, but i did see The Fifth Element before it got remastered.

The X-Files: Fight The Future says hello as well. For christ sakes you know its bad when there's compression artifacts all over the place during the film's opening. I swore I was watching a upconverted DVD (that's badly edge enhanced) instead of Bluray during most of the film.

X-Men trilogy finally coming out on :br:...this April:

'X2: X-Men United" enjoys two audio commentaries (with Singer, plus a producer/screenwriter track), the "Generation X: Comic Book History" documentary, an additional four-part making-of documentary, deleted scenes, art galleries, additional "Locations and Sets" vignettes, on-camera graphics breakdowns, storyboards and concept art, and trailers and TV spots.
Finally, the new re-issue of 'X-Men: The Last Stand' boasts two audio commentaries with director Brett Ratner, the producers and screenwriters, over two dozen deleted scenes (including three alternate endings), a Brett Ratner Video Diary, the "X-Men Up Close" interactive gallery with stills and video, two Fox Movie Channel TV specials, an "Anatomy of a Scene: Golden Gate Bridge" featurette, additional Vignettes, Blog entries and "Previz Animatics," art galleries, theatrical trailers, and easter eggs.

The 'X-Men Trilogy' will feature each stand-alone release only, bundled as a three-pack. At presstime, Fox has not announced any additional content or exclusives for the set.
Suggested list price has been set at $34.98 each for the stand-alone Blu-rays, and $79.98 for the three-pack.
I've yet to see Clerks 2 in the wild, and it's really pissing me off. I've checked at least six stores.
Both are identical to the HD DVD releases :(
the "Mutant Watch" Fox TV special
Oh god, I remember watching this on TV back when the movie came out. Weird.
...and the problem with that is, what exactly?
Nothing. was saying incase he was wondering if the hddvd/blurays were different. Both are same (nearly, I think Clerks 2 for Blu has upgraded audio).

I just saw Taken last night and I loved it...I just found out it's out on Blu-Ray in the UK...anyone know if it's region free?

I just found that out from HighDefDigest as well...thanks though...sucks, I'll have to wait for it now.

Yeah CLERKS II has TrueHD on BD, but its not really the kind of movie you'd notice any difference.

Clerks II had an error on its box when it was released on HD DVD...It mentioned only DD5.1, but in fact had DD+ and TrueHD. The BD is identical ...except it dropped the DD+.

Yep. (Edit: I wonder why HDD just posted that - other sites posted it on Feb. 6th) and CSI season 1 was just announced for Blu Ray on May 12th.

Sweet. Makes that $2.99 purchase that much better.

One of these days I'll get a surround system.

Man.. Donnie Darko and Boondock Saints were HARD to find! Out of three stores I went to, only one had Donnie Darko, one had Boondock Saints, and they were the last at each store! Cripes.

anyone have any PQ AQ rating on Darko, Sideways, Dynamite and Office Space... my usual review sites don't even have any up yet

Office Space was pretty much what I was expecting. It's brighter and clearer. I'd give it a 4/5. Little to no grain.

The audio is INSANE though. You can hear people's phones ringing all around you, voices, everything.. felt like I was in the cubicle with him.

nice! i am probably picking up those 4 movies, just wanted some feedback

I finally got around to watching Zack and Miri.. are they serious.. FOURTY THREE deleted scenes?! They made an entire movie out of deleted scenes.. the deleted scenes combined is literally six minutes shorter than the actual movie (95 minutes of deleted scenes versus the actual movie, which is 101 minutes). It may actually be longer if you count out the time of the credits in the main movie.. It gives a lot of backstory and adds a lot of hilarity. Insane.

I have NEVER laughed so hard at a movie before.. the deleted scenes are funnier than the actual movie (Which I've seen at least five times now, but this is the first time on blu-ray).

Zack: "Big trouble in little vagina!"
*Customer's young girl laughs; mother walks away in disgust*
Zack: "Shame she's not 18, she gets me.."

Bubbles: Wait, there's a big finish.
*Brown bubble pops up*
Zack (whispering): "That's a fart!"
*Bubbles puts her lighter under the bubble, flicks it on, and the fart pops in a ball of fire*
