Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only
I have it and it looks great -- very little DNR -- and a bargain for $12 or whatever Amazon is charging for it.

I did a capsule in my review here...

Nice mini-review. I really like Alan Parker's films, they often feel a little "hollywood ending" at times but he still manages to hold my attention.

I was specifically worried about how the ending would hold up. It's one of those endings that was much less of a cliché and less predictable at the time of release.
Is Dollhouse BR worth $34.95? I'm pretty tempted, but not sure if it'll drop some more.
The show was only "meh" for most of the first season. I'd say wait as well as it wont sell very well and are to sure to offer a bundle in the future.

Did anyone see how much Snatch was going for at Target? I was going to tr and use the $5 Manuf. coupon and the $5 Target coupon and get it for cheap (certainly not worth FP or SP IMHO).
EDIT: NM found it, per SD it is $19.

Can anyone recommend a good blu ray player that streams netflix. Budget is less than 200, though I might go higher if the AV quality is that much of a step up.

Isn't PSN getting Netflix real soon? Maybe you should save up for a bit longer and get a PS3.
Any basis for this statement, like a link to a price match policy stating it?
I actually went to a local Best Buy in San Dimas, CA and there was a small sign stating that they price match online store prices. So I went and asked a worker there if they can PM Amazon. She said yes you can as long it is sold by Amazon and not a third-party store. So I'm gonna be using my RZ more often since I can price match :)

You can do it right now--just request a streaming disc from Netflix.

So is $60 a good price for Rome complete? I'm seriously thinking about that one...

I'm going to best buy tomorrow so maybe they will have something up about it. I know they price match their own site and some times they don't even want to do that.

If I had $60 right now I'd get it in a heartbeat. You're basically looking at $30 per season which is an absolute steal for an excellent show.

Let me know how it goes! :)

Yes, that's exactly where I'm at right now too...do I have $60 hiding somewhere? Argh.

Anyone know if Panasonic players do netflix or how that all works? I know I saw a Panny that looked like the 60 with netflix on the box and I was wondering if that was in a firmware upgrade since I know they haven't supported it up to this time. I know the older boxes don't have anything mentioning it, but the newer style boxes in BB and HH Gregg both mentioned it. I can't find anything about a revision of hardware or anything that would specify a difference or an upgrade in the 60 about it adding Netflix though.

Panasonic players don't do Netflix at this time. For whatever reason, the two companies have not formed any type of partnership. Panny players do have Amazon Video, though.

Hey guys... sorry to shit in the thread if I am.. but can I get some recommended sub-$175 BD players or brands? I would like wireless and capable off playing vids of an ext HDD or USB (if any can do .mkv even sweeter). I know PS3 would be the best bet but not really looking to spend that much even though I know it is a very solid machine (I used to own one but sold it awhile back). Just want to stick with my PC and 360 for gaming. Thanks!

I know a number of people who use their PS3 primarily for blu ray movies and rarely, if ever play games on it. Honestly, the PS3 is your best bet for wifi, ext. storage, etc.. I'd just save up and get that. Most of the sub-$200 players sacrifice on one or more of the features you're looking for. For example, the Samsung BDP1600 on sale @ BB this week does stream, but you need to buy the wifi adapter separately.

I bought a ps3, and will be using it for blu rays more then anything else. Sure my wife will actually play games on it, but I plan on just sticking with my 360 for gaming lol.

Almost all my multiplatform games I end up getting on 360.

I may pick up a stand-alone player when they get the managed copy issues worked out, which probably won't be for a while. That, and I'm out of HDMI inputs on my receiver.

Just about everything I've played on my PS3 for BR hasn't left me wanting for a standalone player.
Toy Story and Toy Story 2 coming March 23rd 2010!

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Disc_Announcements/Disney/Buena_Vista/Toy_Story_&_Toy_Story_2_on_Blu-ray!/3916

Hopefully we get some $10 off coupons on these as well :D
We could only be so lucky.

That and we could have Amazon do a deal with a discount when buying both of them at once, like they did with Up and Monsters Inc.

And then drop $12 after everyone's preorder ships.

I never saw anything about PMing online prices. Also WB is not even getting back with me on the issue with 2 of the BDs that I got on their rewards program.

Trying to decide between these 3 movies for my free goozex blu ray. any one have any recommendations?

Angels and demons (never saw Da vinci code)
terminator Salvation
GI Joe

Toy Story 1&2 BR preorder is $24.99 @ amazon, in case anyone was wanting to pre-order. I can't remember if there are good release week sales in March, so I just preordered to be be on the safe side...

Saw that The Simpsons seasons is making its Blu-Ray premiere finally, only its Season 20 on Blu-Ray and DVD being released January 12, 2010 at Amazon. What the hell happened to seasons 13-19 on DVD? I want those.....

Also for the Goozex guy, get District 9 its better than Terminator Salvation. The other two movies are pretty bad that you listed and if its just between Terminator and those two, get Terminator.

So my future mother-in-law bought us a blu-ray player for Christmas, but we don't have any BR discs to use with it.

Any suggestions on some good, cheap blu-rays? :)

You missed out on a couple of months of amazing deals on new releases as well as the $5 Target coupon (combined with sales/pricematches/manufacturer's coupons) that was simply amazing. Although, the coupon still scans even though it's expired.

Check out amazon's top sellers; there might still be some awesome deals there though nothing like Black Friday and the weeks around it. Best Buy has some decent $9.99 Blu Rays this week, check amazon for the pricematch on those. Oh and Costco has had some simply fantastic prices on a variety of quality titles.

All these Target coupons floating around (BR, and 360 stuff) and I can't use any of them. I work for Target so it's automatic termination if I use the expired coupons (and get caught). lol

But yeah, I popped in here from time to time just to see what was there .. and of course I miss out on all the amazing stuff, THEN get a BR player. Haha.

Thanks.
