But it's really not a "re-issue double dip" -- it's the exact same disc, in the exact same packaging, that's been repressed to correct a problematic, botched transfer.
That disc is precisely what I was referring to in my earlier post. When a studio has to repress/re-issue a title within 12-18 months because its first release was completely BOTCHED, they ought to have an exchange program. GANGS OF NEW YORK is what I was referring to. And, again, it's not even a different release with different materials on it-- it's the exact same disc and package with a corrected, newer transfer.
If they have to go to the trouble to do that, they ought to accomodate the consumers who bought the first pressing. Shame on them.
Do I think they should offer a replacement plan to previous owners, since it's a re-issue with a new master? Without question. Will they do it? Most likely not.
Same situation with Gladiator, and if that pans out, I don't know if Paramount will do a replacement plan or not.
If there's issues with any titles that aren't player-related, any studio should fix the issue and reissue the disc. If it's not cost-effective to do it, they won't. Which is the real issue with these situations, if it doesn't make them enough money to make it worthwhile, they'll skip it.
