Borderlands discussion - Is Moxxi hot or not?

Cool that's good to know. I thought offline achievements were never recorded but it makes sense that they would sync next time you logged on.

I put in another ~4-5hr farm today and finally got all the pizza I needed. Turns out I only needed about 3 till the achievement popped but I ended up finding about 7 or8 before I quit out. I did not bother to pick up all the stuff, just ran around to the weapon chests and "sucked up" the biggest piles of items for fun. There definitely seemed to be more pizza than ever before, also there seemed to be more items than ever before too :)

Now I just have 1 achievement left, get 15 kills with the berserker action skill, because I have never made a berserker character hehe. At least that will be pretty easy.

IMO you don't experience all of Borderlands without having all 4 different characters. My fav is still the Soldier followed by the Siren but the Berserker and Hunter are cool esp if you want to change up your play style.

totally...you gotta play all the different characters to really experience all of Borderlands...and then play it co-op to enjoy it even more.

I enjoyed the Siren and Soldier for solo play the most, Brick seems like he's meant for multiplayer more. My hunter is still lvl 32. >.> (everyone is 61+)

I'm not the type of gamer who really plays through games multiple times. Therefore, even though I know the experience would be different, it does not appeal to me that much to play as another character. Besides the berserker style of play (tank/melee) did not look that interesting to me.

I have a Hunter (lvl69) and a Soldier (my first char, he's lvl 31 or so). I played the whole game co-op with my friend but now that we have finished everything, he has little desire to do it again with a different character. I will say if I were to go back and start over, I would have kept using my soldier or played as a Siren, because machine guns/SMGs are the most satisfying weapons to use in the game IMO. Snipers and revolvers are great but there is nothing quite like shooting a burst at the enemy and seeing streams of damage numbers and criticals sprout from their head.

My most used character is the soldier (40ish) although for the longest time I played him with sniper rifles and revolvers, mainly cause in all games I try to take them out a distance first and bc I found an awesome revolver early on that was my best weapon for a good while. Guess I shoulda tried the Hunter first. I've started the other three to check em out, but I don't have time to play this game four times, let alone 8 or 12 to do playthough 2 and 2.5. Wish I did though. I still gotta finish Knoxx and claptrap.

If anyone is looking for someone to play online please send me an invite. I really love this game but I hate playing on my own. I am on my first play through and have the first 3 DLC packs, currently a LVL 16 Hunter and a LVL 9 Siren.

FYI the new print run of Borderlands GOTY has the 4 expansions on disk instead of download codes. To tell which version, the old version says tokens on the cover but the new one just says all expansions.

link?

I don't have a link as I was in Gamestop and saw a used copy for 34.99 & asked what was up. They had new copies also. I'll take some pics tomorrow if I need to.

I just grabbed the GotY from the Gamestop sale. I've already finished the main game and I'm would like to run through the DLC. If anyone wants to join up, send me a message on Live. I'm playing the Zombie Island of Doctor Ned right now.
Yep got it for $20 at Gamestop. Looking for partners once I get into it.
Hit me up, I've already 1750'd it but I'm always up for more co-op Borderlands. Gotta get my Siren to level 69 anyway.

Quick question. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I recently defeated the last boss (forgot the name- big blob thing, haha). I actually didn't get a chance to finish all the missions before it ended, and the credits rolled. Is there anyway to complete these missions without having to start all over?

I'm trying to remember-- doesn't it just drop you back into the game after the credits roll?

Every time you load your character, you'll select between Playthrough 1 and Playthrough 2, and mission progress is specific to each playthrough. So you can definitely go back and complete any missions you left open in PT1.

Thanks Ryuukishi. Yeah, it just drops you back on the last level after the credits roll (was playing online and the host just quit), and you are supposed to deliver some piece. The only thing is I couldn't figure out where to go. Will look more into that later on, but glad to know I can continue those missions.
I'm definitely going to need some help for some missions and the inevitable Underdome stuff.
Not to be mean or anything, but my cousin and I spent 10+ hours doing the underdome stuff I'm sure. I am never going through that again.

But feel free to add me. I'm usually playing with my cousin online so if we are in a game send me a message and I will invite you. That goes for any other new players as well.

Definitely add me for Underdome play or just a run through overall. One of my best friends got in on this sale so we'll be playing it soon anyway and the more the merrier. When tackling the Underdome it will be best if the host is around level 10 and the others are higher level ass kickers as it will make it easier and hence quicker because the enemies level will be based on the host.

I need to clean up a lot of missions on my soldier in playthrough 2 as well as the DLCs (I completed everything with my siren already) so I'd be up for revisiting this game as well.

Just put it in and played around the 1st 6 missions or so. My question is does this game have a real story to it? So far you just arrived at this place and go around doing things for people without any real reason. Because of this I didn't enjoy the game as much as I thought I would initially as I really like the story driven games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc. I'm still going to give it another shot this evening but was just wondering how the story, if any progresses.

The story is largely weak, though the characters are entertaining. The game itself is 100X better in co-op because it was DESIGNED around co-op (not a fan of tacked on co-op just to boost sales in some games).

Bottom line, if you're looking for an epic quest/journey, you're not going to find it in Borderlands. If you have a friend to go questing with, to laugh at the myriad of caricatures, and go score loot with, then you'll have a good time.
My question is does this game have a real story to it?
Nope. There is some vague setup about finding the vault, but there is no real payoff. The draw is the missions, characters, guns and co-op.

What are you guys talking about. There is lots of story there, it's just not very good. However, if you ignore the story, you will miss some of the better "jokes"

I didn't ignore the story. There's just not much there, and certainly not the exposition that the topic creator is referring to. Great characters, a great setting, and quests are not a story.

The question that the topic creator has is, essentially, is this game a story-telling RPG like Mass Effect or Dragon Age? And the answer is no. But that doesn't mean it isn't a fantastic game.

I would say that the most story you will get is from DLC packs... they each have sort of their own story, but not like an epic tale or anything.

I would suggest this game for co-op purposes mainly (as someone else said) I have a lot of fun playing with friends, but tend to get bored fast alone.

it's all about collecting loot and leveling up. there's really not a story, there's little quests which have their own stories, and a main questline, but it's nothing you'll remember (I dumped over 100 hours into the game and don't remember much of the "story") but what the game does right is just having fun, running around shooting stuff.

There's plenty of story (just not an epic tale of deep thought, decision making, and consequence), the problem is most ppl are just too busy enjoying shooting up enemies and collecting loot...and just flying through the missions instead of taking the time to read and understand as to exactly why they're doing what they're doing.

If you play with with friends, yes you will have a lot more fun but you will probably enjoy the storyline even less because you'll be completing the missions twice as fast...and never looking back or wondering why.

actually that's a good point...the story in borderlands is more something you read and hear yourself. it's really up to you to pay attention and remember how it's all relevant. It's kinda like visiting another country, you can just eat the food and see the sights or actually try and experience the culture.

til then...rat-tat-tat-tat~

There's a compelling world that's created, that's for sure, but Borderlands is weak on storytelling. People who are expecting something like Mass Effect or Dragon Age should know that it's nothing like those.

And I've listened and read every log in the game. Again, fantastic and quirky characters =/= story.

I did a bad job of joking and making that clear, sorry. ;)

I'm sure we all agree, the story is just a device to move you from one area to another and more gun-play. It's certainly "throw-away' and not up to the Bioware levels the OP wanted, but I don't think that was ever Borderland's point.

it's what you make it.

The funny gags, here and there, and the tight and addictive gameplay make up for the weak story.

I very much agree with GuardianE.

I've just started a level 10 Soilder, but I'm free to play at nights. Add me if you want, I'll most likely be playing this game for the next week or two it sounds like.

Duke Nukem Forever. That's why it hasn't been announced yet. When a sequel comes I hope they fix the framerate, allow us to max out everything, and better streamline how drops/powerful weapons work. God Weapons & Equipment would also be cool.

I just got 1750/1750 in Borderlands this morning. 3 hours of the Gully in splitscreen. NOT FUN. I'd be up for starting a fresh game with someone though.

Ughhh....I still need to do the Underdrome stuff, but it seems like such a pain

The 5 wave stuff isn't bad. The 20 wave stuff on the other hand...

Best bet is to search for a game online that's in the Underdome and hope they're deep into a game so you don't have to play that much.
