Brutal Legend - Gen. Discussion & Info - Demo Out Now!

Im going to go back on my initial post about "utter dissapointment".

After playing the demo this has moved into the definitely worth a serious look.

HOLY fuck I loved this and didnt expect to even though I love Jack Black. All the random shit he says is awesome. When he called that guy a motherfucking piece of shit I was sold. The random shit he was saying as you took that four legged thing down the side of the skull hill had me in stitches. The main menu is just so simple yet so badass.....I have got to get this game.

Oh i know, I was laughing at all the crap he was saying, but the BEST that had me rolling was at the end after the boss....

DECAPITATIOOOOOONNNN!!!!!!!!
They got Gene Hoglan of Testament fame on drums. Plus they make subtle references to metal bands on every show. Not to mention Brendon Smalls is a HUGE metal head (an actual one, not just one that bitches about thing's not being "metal") and he does make some good music.

And 1.57 gigs for a demo?! Goddamn!
Edit this, you mean Dark Angel fame ; )

I haven't listened to metal in over 10 years but I loved the demo. Might try to just rent it though, will have to see the achievement list.

Then plays guitar on the ax instead of the actual guitar. I am really excited about this game. Even my girlfriend was laughing and interested

I played the demo last night, and it was Awesome. I actually smiled through alot of it. The storyline is awesome, Jack Blacks voice fits in really well, gameplay is solid. Hell, even the options for gore and language are funny. I really think this might be a Day One purchase for me. And the soundtrack of the game when playing is just awesome as hell as well!

I was just going to say the same thing. I haven't smiled that much for a long time, while playing a video game. the gore/language prompts made me laugh my ass off.

I am concerned on just what most of the gameplay is. I know it's suppose to be somewhat sandboxy, but I am concerned about longevity and repetition. Other than that though, day one purchase as soon as those concerns are addressed by a review.

I played though the demo a couple of times and enjoyed it a lot I just dont know if I enjoyed it enough to spend $64.00 on it. This seems like a perfect game to wait a few weeks for to find a used copy and combine it with a GS B2G1 Free sale or a 20% off weekly coupon.

Some people "get it" and some people don't. For those that "get it" (like myself) this game is a gift from one of the most talented game designers of all time. The demo just solidified my decision to purchase this game day one. I truly pity those that dont "get it".

TIMofLEGEND baby! Awesome to see all the positive comments...trying the demo tonight...then click 'buy now'...hopefully.

Played the demo, has to be one of the best demos I've ever played. I'm in love with the game design, humor, and metal, but I also really liked the gameplay.

Just preordered this on Amazon with my credits from Halo ODST and Uncharted preorders, $37.xx with delivery date shipping. ROCKtober 13th couldn't come soon enough

THis is a ridiculous post. You might like the story. You might not. You might like the gameplay. You might not. There really isn't anything to "get" more than there is the latest Final Fantasy release. Some people will like it, others won't.

Seemed to me like it is going to be a fun game. A lot more than I was expecting and I am actually now excited for this. And YES I DID NOT LIKE PSYCHONAUTS!!! Did I not "get" that one or did I just think it was a pretty bland platformer?

Obviously doesn’t get it.

I literally laughed out loud when the language prompt popped up just as Eddie was about to let fly with a string of expletives. I loved everything about the demo (gotta love those menus!), but that alone sold me on the game.

I'm a Tim Schafer fan from way back and appreciate his design sensibility, but I don't think you have to be a fan to enjoy this game.

Sorry, I usually think Testament with Gene Hoglan eventhough he was in it for like...a year or less? Though he is with Fear Factory too if I remember right.

After hearing CAGs rave about this game I was excited to go play the demo... only to find out it's restricted to people who let MS extort them with LIVE Gold fees. I really hate Microsoft sometimes...

Perhaps I'm a little bias as a Tim Schafer fan, but the demo was one of the best I've played in a while (Batman being the other). It's a perfect mix of story and gameplay-- though I wish I could demo the RTS mode.

2.50 a month isn't even considered extortion by the bum that sleeps on my local park bench.

You can't wait 7 days? D:

Ok, Diamond Head and Testament (!!) on the title screen just guaranteed I'm buying this, even if it's not at launch. And I haven't even played it yet.

*Edit* Finished the demo. Good game but I'm not sure it'll be worth 60 bucks, I could see some repetition setting in. I have a feeling a 40 dollar deal will pop up between now and Xmas though, I'll get it then.

In regards to the Gene Hoglan thing a page or two back, I usually think of him as a Strapping Young Lad guy, although Testament is in there too despite having only been on board for one album. Hell, I used to think of him as an Old Man's Child guy even though he was only on one album and they spelled his name "Hogland" on the booklet

Adding this to the must buy games.
Definitely not GOTY, but it seems like a classic in the making. Good music, fun gameplay, entertaining story and characters, good devs, voice actors....what's not to like?

Dude, just watched Giantbomb's quicklook... looks great. So charming. But why do I feel like I don't want to buy it release day? Maybe I'll just wait for the $40 like I did with the Batmanz

Just tried this today and it awesome, I cannot wait for this to come out. Right when Children of the Grave kicked in, I knew I was in for a treat. Props to the design team for the Mastodon with Iron Tusks boss battle.
I may only be able to afford one game this season. I'm thinking this or CoD. I don't know what to do.
You will get infinitely more playtime from Call of Duty. And for someone who can only afford one game, I'd imagine that's quite important.

The game was barely on my radar till I played the demo. I mean, the concept sounded cool, but so many big releases are coming out and I have such a backlog anyway... But hell, if I can affordd to partake in the TRU sale, this will be one of my 3 games.

Demo was lotsa lulz... but it did feel very repetitive after a while. I'll look at the reviews for this one

This feels like a game I would rather watch than play. The dialogue is very funny, but the combat feels unbelievably stiff and the driving a little too simplistic. After wrapping up MUA and Batman: AA, both of which have interesting combat systems that are the primary focus of the game, I found BL's gameplay really weak (for the demo). I can't help but feel they spent a lot of time trying to get all these different elements in the game (melee, driving, RTS, etc.), which led to each feature being a bit substandard.

Now I need to find a third game for my TRU B2G1 as I think I'm gonna wait for the price drop.
