Burnout Paradise - General Discussion & Info / TROPHY HUNTERS WELCOME!
so what are we gonna put this game on hold until the updates? The updates will make Burnout to be almost a new game.
I still play 2-3 times a week but I haven't participated in a CAG night in a while. Of course that number might drop a bit after tomorrow. ;)

I wouldn't object to putting the organized games on hold for now...I'm sure those of us who want to will still play together informally.

Ok just listened to the last podcast. They're charging for Davis, but not for the new island. Also looks like in a few days, you'll be able to upload your PS3 save to the website and they'll tell you where your missing billboards/smashes/etc. are. I'll probably use this for my missing smashes cause god knows I don't know where else to look.

You can upload save from the PS3? Sounds like a cool feature.. my friend is missing a bunch of gates, I'll let him know.

Haven't touched Burnout since GTA4 came out...anyone interested in resurrecting our weekly games once the update is live?
Also looks like in a few days, you'll be able to upload your PS3 save to the website and they'll tell you where your missing billboards/smashes/etc. are.
Did this ever happen?
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4442023&postcount=575
Wow...thanks for posting that, Frisky. Sounds amazing...especially this:

- Players leaving will no longer cancel the current freeburn challenge and the game will just act as if the player that left had completed his part, allowing the rest of the players to attempt to finish the challenge.
I like the custom soundtrack myself.
Any idea if the music will have to be on my PS3 for it to work? Or will the media server thing stream it from my computer into the game?
Not sure. Is that possible with the other games that have custom soundtracks (Super Stardust, High Velocity Bowling, MLB 08)?
Haven't played any of those...might have to just wait and see. It's a nice addition, regardless.

It looks like SSHD only lets you use music that's on the PS3 HD. Who knows whether that's the standard for custom soundtracks, though. I don't think I have any other games that allow them, so I can't compare.

I'll definitely be playing again once the update is up. The save game analyzer is at http://www.burnoutteamrocks.com/

Not sure I'll be online on the 10th, I think it might be a good idea to give 2.41 a couple of days to make sure it also isn't bricking systems. But next week for sure.

Ha! I've actually borrowed this back off my nephew so I may be online thursday night too!

Like pete said hopefully the FW issue is resolved in the next few days and they don't release it all at once.

Oh great, the update comes out two damn days after I go to mexico, and I'm away for two damn weeks!! Well, lets hope I can get a iConnection so I can read up on it.

Also anyone know which of the Updates are gonna cost us, and how much???

Much Thanx in Advance
Also anyone know which of the Updates are gonna cost us, and how much???

Much Thanx in Advance
Free free free! If I remember what I read correctly, the only thing that Criterion is charging for is the motorcycles.

I too will be back on Burnout and look forward to Thursday. A couple of you have magically disapeared from my friend list, but none-the-less, I look forward to playing again.

Does the Cagney update have the motorcycles? Either way, I'll be buying me some two-wheelers. Also, I wonder how the hell they're going to do planes with this game.

I'll be ready to play the game. Haven't played Burnout in a while. Only issue is I hope to have at least an hour separation between this and UT3 (so those who may own both games can play both, if they want), but that's just me.
I'm suggesting a 10pm or later start time for UT3 so a 9pm EST kickoff for BP sounds good.
That's what I'm thinking too. Sounds great to me. :D I think an hour seems good for Burnout, and if some want to play longer, they can. We can maybe look into playing Burnout early on Saturday/Sunday too just for fun.

does anyone know if on the new Cagney patch if the host leaves the game, will it migrate to another player so the game doesn't end? i thought I read somewhere they were going to implement that..

I don't get off work until 10pm so I don't know if I can join or not... however let me know what time you guys decide on so I can set the header accordingly.
does anyone know if on the new Cagney patch if the host leaves the game, will it migrate to another player so the game doesn't end? i thought I read somewhere they were going to implement that..
I remember reading that, too...but I'm not sure which patch it's supposed to be included in. One of the patches is also supposed to let you finish a challenge even if one of the players leaves the game.

The official list of things in the patch can be found here.

3 New Freeburn Game Modes

Road Rage
Up to 8-player team event. One team must race through a series of Paradise City checkpoints. The other team must stop them.
Cue incredible chases and battling through the city, tons of voice communication as players co-ordinate their efforts.

Stunt Run (vs)

Pull stunts to score points - hit barriers, billboards and ramps; ace barrel rolls, flat spins and massive airtime to score big. Everybody competes to simultaneously reach the biggest total. Hit your rivals to kill their scores and gain multipliers.

Marked Man

A player is selected at random and everyone gangs up to take them down. The Marked Man scores for reaching the end point intact and taking anyone down along the way.

70 New Freeburn Challenges
• 70 new timed multi-part Freeburn Challenges
• Leaderboards for these challenges that log your best time (as well as those people who did it with you)

Vehicles
• Hunter Olympus
• A secret Criterion Car!

New liveries
• Rossolini Tempesta Dream
• Two fan-created liveries – the Oval Steel Racer and Inferno Hippie Van
• Two secret Criterion liveries!

Ranked Race Changes
• Too much to report in this blog entry but click here for the full breakdown!

Custom Soundtracks
• Custom Soundtrack support on PS3

Other high-priority fixes and updates

• If you're in a 3 or more player challenge and a player drops out, the remaining players can still complete it (subject to it being a challenge that can handle this!)
• "Previously" section on the search games list now displays Challenges, Today's Best and Freeburn game modes, making it loads easier to decide which game you want to join
• You can now view Leaderboards and Options in an online game
• You can now mute other online players in the show players screen
• You can now mute yourself if you have a PS3 Eye/Eye toy
• We've increased time-out for online races, and if all players complete the races within the timer, then you go straight to results
• The Airfield has been changed to help with the drivability of the area and make it a little easier to complete the hoop challenges
• Online cars now show damage - roll up to the start in a half-destroyed Hunter Cavalry and everyone else will see it!
• Added a stronger display message if you rule all of Todays Best
• The Easy Drive menu & Challenges page now loops from top to bottom
• Fixed the navigation system so that it takes into account the next check point in a race
• Fixed traffic not reappearing in Freeburn after a no-traffic race
• Fixed online races using Lawrence Road - it's been reporting finish distances with a little inaccuracy
• Revised 30+ car resets following crashes
• All new sound effects added for Easy Drive
• Driving backwards in Road Rage now ends the event as it does in Marked Man
• Option to invert camera axis for the look around camera on right stick
• Online player information made accurate on the instance a player goes through a checkpoint in races
• If you set VOIP mix to zero it is now saved correctly
• 1080i support for "almost HD" sets - PS3 only
• Improved the Standard Definition rendering on PS3
• New highlight to show the player in Today's Best
• Easy Drive fades out if it's unused for 20 seconds
• Boost chaining no longer possible by drifting in open areas

No mention of host migration though, but yes to the completing a challenge even if someone leaves.

EDIT: I'll be on 10pm or so.

This is gonna be sweet.. I just got my Dual Shock 3 in yesterday. :)

Also with the new vehicles.. I wonder how to unlock them unless they are multiplayer only unlocks?

and what's a livery?

Cagney is getting posted:

9:00am GMT
1:00am Pacific Time (US)
4:00am Eastern Time (US)
10:00am BST (British Summer Time)
11:00am for the rest of Europe

So, 18 hours before we're playing. Plenty of time.

Okay, let me do this one more time...

NOW Cagney is live! :D
Let me be the first to say... I'm loving the new shiny graffix! ;)

Looks really slick. I'm really liking the calendar of events they've set up. Today's event:

Today, we're getting things started with Drift Kings! That means we're focusing all the action on our Japanese high-performance cars – the Nakamura Ikusa and the Kitano Hydros.

You'll be choosing from Ikusa GT, Ikusa Samurai, Hydros Custom or Hydros Techno only! We'll push your driving skills to the limit and see which of these cars is best.

Nakamura vs Kitano
Stunt Boost vs Speed Boost
Strength vs Agility
Who will win?

Custom soundtracks doesn't work like I'd hoped. I liked how with the game soundtrack there would be audio effects applied if you were in the air, crashing, etc. None of that gets done to the custom soundtrack. I was also hoping the tags would show up just like the in-game soundtrack, but that also doesn't happen. Oh well.

To let everyone know, you access custom sountracks by pressing the D-pad right, scroll all the way to the bottom. The custom soundtrack is accessed the old way, not my pressing the PS Button (The 2.4 firmware update to developers was only a month ago, so I understand).

Remember Freaky to plug in the PS Eye. ;)
How big is the update file? Mine's been running for 30+ minutes and it's only ~14% complete.
Just over 350mb I believe

Damn. Cagney's update is 385 MB?! I'm not surprised with all of the PS3-specific stuff in addition to the rest of the additions/fixes.

Your internet must be slow, bmachine, I'm about 9 minutes in and just over 1/3rd of the way done.

Aw, snap...apparently the 360 version of Cagney has been delayed for 2 weeks. Read about it here, if you're interested.

It took me just under an hour to get the whole thing so apparently it picked up speed after I posted. Still weird, though...my internets are usually pretty zippy.

Looking forward to getting our game on this everning.
