But you need Salt Swords to kill giant slugs! It's GGT #58!

Speed Racer is still
terrible.

Speaking of which, I'm incredibly tempted to play Alone in the Dark, despite a lot of bad buzz it's getting. I'm weird.

Wow I just got really hyped for Socom: Confrontation.

I just watched the two HD gameplay videos on gametrailers.com and the graphics and gameplay are most definitely there. But most importantly the framerate is there. The level design looks good too.

Thank God Socom is shaping up nicely. One of the reasons I bought PS3.

Unfortunately that only brings the list to...

Socom
LBP
Resistance 2

I'll probably pick up MGS4 somewhere in there too once I can get a good price and I have a job.

This is a really interesting CODEC conversation I never heard before in MGS3 with Para-Medic that is even more interesting thanks to MGS4.
She basically was talking to Naked Snake about how he needs to leave a descendant, and then goes into talking about how eventually they'll be able to clone him from his genes. Now, I know this is obviously supposed to be a "hey, we're gonna clone you eventually for later games for Solid, Liquid and Solidus." However, I find it interesting now to know that SHE'S the one who brought it up to Big Boss, considering we now know that she was Dr. Clark and headed up Les Enfants Terrible. It makes me wonder if Kojima really wasn't just making stuff up as he went along and KNEW that these characters in MGS3 eventually would go on to become The Patriots....

I mentioned this one in the MGS4 thread, and it's a bit of a reach but still chuckle worthy. In MGS3 Para-Medic mentions her favorite movie is Frankenstein. As we know she will go on to bring her own dead man to life when she makes the Ninja. The Ninja being FRANK Jeagar.

What didn't you like about it?

Oh, and you guys talking about codecs. My favorite one is with paramedic when you call her about the bioluminescent mushrooms.

I think that's what they're called anyways.
Alone in the Dark is fucking terrible.
How terrible Zew? I figured so, fucking Atari can't do shit right. They just need to go kill their selves already. This was the ONE game by them that I was interested in, and of course I get my hopes up and it bombed. fuck them.
Nope, Resistance is a bad game. Bad aiming, hollow weapons, etc. It's a timeshift/Area 51 caliber shooter, really.
You've never even played it...

The worst game I've played in recent memory.

Off the to of my head, I can't think of game that sucks as much.

Damn that sucks. I doubt I'll even waste the $ renting it then. If the 360 version is that bad, lord knows how bad the triples version will be.

I thought the game would be horrible ever since I first saw it.

Yeesh, is there some kind of rubber band AI in MLB 08 The Show? Every time I build a lead, the other team comes back and has a huge inning. It's very annoying.

Ah well, I tried, but I'm prolly gonna trade the game in. It's so good otherwise, but maybe 09 will be better. :p

I'd like to see WallE, but that one might have to wait until BluRay. The wife cleared me to see "Wanted" tomorrow with my buddies, though.

Yep.

Diablo 2 ate so much of my time back in the day. I want more info!!

Ok, probably a stupid question but what is this Power Stone game I hear so much about on podcasts? Why was it so great?

It's my understanding it was a Dreamcast game so it would've been firmly in the time of my life where I didn't play games.
Speed Racer is still
Did you actually see it or just base that thought on the goofy show from the 60s?

I've never played Power Stone either, but I've always heard good things about it. There a PSP version, Power Stone Collection or something like that. Not sure how good that port is, tho.

Closing in on the end of The Journey in Persona 3. I'm just past New Years now. I think I'll take a break before moving on to The Answer, tho. So,

My question to the GGT is which PS2/3 RPG should I move onto now? I've narrowed it down to either FFX, Enchanted Arms, Star Ocean (TtEoT), or Xenosaga Ep. 1.

Well, our move happens in less than 3 weeks. Getting pretty excited to start the new work and to get a house setup. :)

Called and got DirecTV scheduled to be installed a few days after we get there, and internet a day before that. Going to try to coordinate it so that the new TV will arrive at our new house around the time that we get there. Pretty awesome.

So, GGT, what should be the inaugural game on the new TV / sound setup?

EDIT: To that point, any one have suggestions on cable managment things? I'm going to having some wires running down the side of the room (CAT6, subwoofer, rear speakers, power, etc.) and I've got some velcro ties I was just going to put at various point along that line, and use them to try to make the EC as clean as possible since the stand we're likely getting doesn't have any wire managment in the back. Thoughts?

I really should get back to playing PS: The Answer, but I really have no urge to do so. Anyway I'd go with FFX since it's the only you game listed that I like(except for Enchanted Arms since I never played it).

Xenosaga has a REALLY, REALLY good and very emotional story. I love the series so much. Star Ocean (TtEoT) is another one of my favorites too, but I prefer Xenosaga. FFX might be best for you to start out with. That's another one of my 5 favorite games last gen.

I think my 5 favorite RPGs last gen goes (or basically, 5 favorite last gen games):
1. Xenosaga Episode III (Beat in 42 hours)
2. Kingdom Hearts II (Beat in 32 hours)
3. Xenosaga Episode I (Beat in 44 hours)
4. Final Fantasy X (Beat in 59 hours)
5. Star Ocean: TTEoT (Beat in 53 hours)

After these are mostly Tales games, Xenosaga Episode II (screw haters, I still loved it), some Suikoden games, some Grandia (I don't care what people say, I liked the third one and Xtreme), some Wild Arms games, some Atelier Iris, some SMT games, etc.

I'm still at the end of the game but I've only clocked in 27 or so hours into Eternal Sonata (awesome game to boot)

Radiata Stories is less than 20 and it's great.

Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter is hard but it's only around a few hours, maybe 10.

Powerstone was very casual type of fighting game. Think something kind of along the lines of the Super Smash Brothers games.
powerstone basically gave birth to what you people refer to as Smash Bros.

lol no

If Smash Bros. 4 used an engine akin to Power Stone with full 3D movement I would be pleased.

Also, all they really had in common were items and scrolling levels (in PS 2), both games I believe were developed concurrently.
I knew I liked that game for some reason. ;)

Seriosuly, they need to release PS1 & 2 on the PSN, XBLA, or WiiWare with some online play. That'd be slick.
just as everyone else thinks as well.

Capcom also needs to bring back rival schools. even God wants it.

Powerstone (1 and 2) were more casual gamer oriented fighting games for the Dreamcast. You could move around in a 3D environment and you could use weapons. It was really fun. The graphics don't hold up as much as other fighting games and the PSP port had ridiculously bad loading times.

Thanks guys. I was really leaning towards FFX anyway. After having replayed all the Final Fantasy games in order (1-9) within the past year, I am kinda looking forward to getting back to the series. A buddy of mine is really pushing me to play Star Ocean tho, since that's prolly one of his favorite RPGs of all time. The dude claims to have beaten it no less than 6 times.

Well I'm getting rid of my free copy of THP8 and my $5 prey... both of them I've only played once, but at least I'll get $14 for them at EB, thus making them worth it.

I also should be getting smash today from a random trade. I will finally be able to have a valid opinion on the game once I actually own a copy... even if I don't play it.
Did you actually see it or just base that thought on the goofy show from the 60s?
I've seen both, and I got more enjoyment out of the ridiculous cartoon dubbing than the movie.

When I first played Star Ocean 3 I thought it was a pretty good game. But I went back after about 2-3 years and wondered what was wrong with me...

Where'd you get Project 8 for free?

I think I'm breaking my rule of no more buying games. TRU's sale is too good on 360 games...

Blazing Angels 2, Dead Rising, Dead or Alive 4, Earth Defense Force 2017, Far Cry, FEAR, Forza 2, Hitman, Prey, Stranglehold, Top Spin 2, Virtua Tennis 3.

All $5-10.

Wow, my friend's over for a visit and just popped in Mario Kart Wii. The receiver/speakers have a top and bottom richness to them that they never had before. I guess the best comparison things to listen to are the sounds you're most familiar with.
