Hmm... I was not aware of this. I've been using my debt card for the past... well... for a long time, and havent gotten into credit cards yet. All the talk of "OMGZ EVERYBODY AND THEIR GOLDFISH IS IN CREDIT CARD DEBT" has me too scared to even play with em.
But, for the sake of my credit score and the eventual purchase of a home, maybe that Citibank card is one I'll hang onto and use often. Hell, the points rewards aren't bad at all, and if I pay it all off right away it's not like it's costing me anything extra.
I guess the big question then is, if you apply but never actually activate the card, does it hurt your score? Or is it like you just never had the thing?
It's about self control.

Having a credit card doesn't mean carrying a balance. I do the same thing and use my check card for most purchases. I only use my credit card when I have to. The whole "OMGZ EVERYBODY AND THEIR GOLDFISH IS IN CREDIT CARD DEBT" is because too many people think credit cards are free money.
When you apply, they do a credit check. A credit check once in a while isn't going to effect your score. But too many credit checks in a specific amount of time (i don't know how long) will hurt your score.
Sorry for the off topic discussion.
On a COMPLETELY related note, if this Walmart deal pans out to be true, I'll be one jumping on it. I've been looking for a good deal on a PS3 for about 4-5 months. I just refuse to do the Sony Credit Card deal because I'm very happy with my credit score.
