CAG Arcade Stick Thread

Here's my ghetto stick, i got the idea after seeing the guy who made the sticks out of aluminum Nintendo DS cases. It's not quite finished I just have to wire up the barrier strips and get some more quick disconnects and make a little channel to feed the controller cable out.

The parts are the hori buttons from my hrap3 that I posted earlier, and the agetec stick out of my upcoming agetec axisdaptor stick which will have a jlf. The box is Commercial-Grade Plastic Case from the container store, its the smallest one. There's still room in there to store a ps1/2 to ps3 adapter that i haven't ordered yet. I was thinking that one of the larger cases may be able to fit a psone with lcd screen too. The box is dual layered plastic so its pretty rigid on the top and bottom but the side flexes like crazy so my drilling went off for the start and select buttons.

it's kind of tall, its taller than an HRAP, i was thinking of adding rubber feet but that might make it too tall to be comfortable.

Wonder if there will be another set of sticks out for KOF and/or Tekken.
I'm still waiting on Amazon or some place to have sticks in stock new. WTF Madcatz?

The wiring is actually not that bad, this is only the second soldering project i've done and it was pretty easy except for the face buttons on the ps1 controller, the traces to solder to are small, i may need to glue them eventually to make sure they stay on but i'm hoping hte project box relieves the stress on the wires.

as far as i've read no one has made a dual wireless stick. the problem is that the sixaxis, dualshocks 3s are not common ground. I think some of the newer 360 wireless pads are common ground. it may be possible if someone discovers a 3rd party ps3 controller that is.

I'm still on the hunt for a good 360 stick. I found an EX2 at my Toys R Us, bought it, used it for about 15 minutes, hated it, and returned it.

It was too small and I didn't have anywhere to rest my hand comfortably. I'm hoping to find another Dreamcast Agetec stick for cheap and just modding that one for 360 (and probably PS3/PS2/PS1).

I'm in the middle of an agetec mod right now and it is a lot of work. I've had to cut away a lot of plastic on the inside (melting plastic smells like guava ) and i'm going to need to drill several holes on the outside and either grind the metal plate to fit sanwa buttons or replace it with a custom cut acrylic panel
You might be better off buying a blank box from someone on shoryuken.com and just dropping parts into it.

I also had an ex2 and didn't like it, i got it for 15 bucks when gamestop clearanced them and was glad i held it until the sf4 craze!

the quick disconnects were really tight to get on and i didn't want the permanence of solder so i just stripped the wires and wrapped them around the little metal prongs on the buttons
 
Canceled my LizardLick order today, they got WAY too many orders.
I ordered on March 6, 2009 and they are only started on the last week of February's orders. Went to Aki instead, it was cheaper and wanted to switch colors and add a few things.

anyone else?
 
Went with the TE fight stick color scheme since its universal and If i want to change my art it wont be so limiting.
Hope to get my order by the end of april/early may
 
Anyone here good at doing stick art? I know my way around photoshop but I lack the natual artistic talent to pull something really amazing off.

An HRAP? Is that a branded HRAP2 then? Would definitely explain the price.
 
Just bought a Seimitsu LS-32-01 from Akihabara shop. How do I put an octagonal gate on there? Can I even do that at all? People on SRK say that I cannot even buy an octagonal gate for it. Anyone know for sure?

There is no octagonal restrictor gate for the LS-32-01, however you can use the default blue gate/guide and move it around to either 2-way, default, or that weird psuedo octy style guide...

No idea, I'll find out when I get mine. It's definitely not an HRAP2, the buttons are in HRAP1 layout. It could very well be a 'good' kind. The only game licensed HRAP stick that kept the 4 way mounting plate+quick disconnects was the HRAP1 Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution stick.

Or you can just remove the dark and light blue plastic and have a circle with a large throw.
 
MM since the SFIV sticks went over so well, has there been any word around the office about perhaps keeping a Mad Catz brand stick on market?
 
MarkMan, is there any way you could help me figure out which traces to cut in order to change the button layout on the SF4 FightPad? The PCB is kind of weird looking and my multimeter isn't working right now...

Jeez, I had no idea it was so much work. I guess I made myself sound more involved than I really would be; I was actually going to just find a cheap DC stick and pay someone else to mod it :lol:

I guess I'll keep my eyes out for something that would be easier (and probably cost me less to get done). I did just pick up one of the Mad Catz Live Arcade sticks for cheap today, mostly for the included Arcade games, but also because I know people use the guts for stick mods. Is that also a difficult process?
 
Gamestop took the listing down for the SF4 sticks on the website. There goes my fucking chance at ever finding a 360 stick it seems. I spotted one PS3 TE at a very far store, and my gf found a PS3 fight stick. Have yet to come across a 360 stick of any kind, anywhere. Been searching for like 3 weeks every day now.
 
Thanks for the replies MarkMan and SmallWind, I guess I'll just have to get used to the square gate. I really should have taken that into consideration when I was deciding to buy an LS-32 or a JLF. I just assumed an octo-gate was made for both. At least the square gate is a breeze for charge characters (I main Chun-Li) but I can't get the QCF motions down on my SE stick if my life depended on it.

Thanks, it'd be great if it were easily moddable, especially for someone like me. :lol:

From what i've read that should be a pretty easy pcb to use if you can solder. where did you get it? i'd like to pick one up also but I can't find it anymore.

It was at a local Gamestop. I stopped in there to look for a used Harmony remote (no luck) and saw they had one of those Mad Catz sticks for $9.99, so I swooped it up. It was the only one I saw, but I can check again if you'd like

found out my co-worker also plays SF and has 6 sticks!
 
I haven't been able to find one of those madcatz arcade sticks anywhere in Canada. It totally sucks. :(

Also, Akihabara Shop is closed til may, FFFFUUUUUUUUUUU- Should have ordered yesterday.

yeah that'd be great, you'd think it'd be easier to find stuff here in new york but there's just more people snapping things up.

I just now got a shipping e-mail from Buy.com for an order placed on 2/24 for the TE stick.

Well it looks like my 360 one is shipping from buy.com and my PS3 one is canceled. So at least I got one of them. Hopefully the Capcom pre-orders will be sent out soon as well, and won't cancel my PS3 one.
 
For those of you that are still looking for a SF4 TE stick, how much would you all pay over retail if at all?

In my hunt for one, the local [import] shop [toys n joys] says they should be getting a shipment in this week. unfortunately this store likes to mark up their stuff esp if they know somethings in demand. so when I asked how much, they told me $200 first come first serve. What are yalls thoughts? still too much?

If it's $200 out the door, I would probably do it and just get it over with. The demand is still gonna be high for a while and if you know your gonna use it, enjoy it.
 
I have a HRAP3 Amazon Edition. It's modded with Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons but still has the stock stick. Ever since SFIV came out, I've been using the Mad Catz SE modded with OBSF-30s and a JLF stick exclusively. In my excitement for KoF XII, I wanted to play some KoF which means I cannot use the Mad Catz stick since the KoF games are PS2 games. After playing with the HRAP, I noticed that the stick itself feels less responsive. I don't know if it's the feel of the stock Sanwa stick vs the JLF or if it's the shaft cover on the stock stick. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.
 
There shouldn't be any difference since the stick in the HRAP is also a JLF. If you're playing PS2 games on a backwards-compatible PS3 there's a 3 frame lag.

the HRAP3 stick is a sanwa JLF, there should be no difference.
 
Thanks for the info. I think I need to remove the shaft cover. I'll bet that's the difference.

@Thadwhit: I know KoF XII is not coming out for PS2 but all of the older KoF games are on PS2 so I have to deal with that until KoF XII is released in July.
 
Don't know if it's good for modding...but Target has a PS2 Psyclone controller on clearance for $7.28 or lower. Thought you guys might want to know...
