You feel that? That's my hatred burning through the internet.:bomb:
People'll hate me even more -- my dad's headed over to Japan later this month on business so I can potentially finish off my list of SNK fighters to get at a reasonable price.

Loaded up Garou and there's a trailer at the beginning showcasing the Neo Geo collections that SNK's doing... it starts with Garou, then some KOF, but interestingly, this all but completely guarantees that there'll be a Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, Real Bout, and other compilations... didn't catch everything in the trailer, but yeah -- good to know those are coming.

Edit: Watched the trailer again and I saw Kizuna Encounter. It'd be nice to see that on a compilation soon. I wish SNK would hurry up and announce what's next... same with Sega and their SEGA AGES series.

Awesome... it looks like almost every Neo Geo fighting game series is going to be on the PS2.

I'm still hoping for a Metal Slug compliation, or at least Metal Slug 1 - 2, and maybe Magician Lord to show up somewhow.

I mean, Samsho and Real Bout FF were a given, but World Heroes? That's awesome.

The Street Fighter Alpha Anthology guide will actually be a well written book, but expect it to only cover the default games. Not much on Hyper Street Fighter Alpha and there is no frame data this time around. But be rest assured it's written by REAL SF players.

Good to hear. I'm thinking about picking up the guide as well.
The Mark of the Wolves port for PS2 was well done. Still mad we can;t play it online in the US though.

I'm over the fact that you can't play online since lag typically kills a fighting game... but damn is this fun. I recall I loved it on the NG, but I appreciate it a lot more now that I'm more into fighters.

That's still good enough for me... the default games is still 5 games, which will make for a hefty guide, and I'm glad to see it will be well written.

It's made by Brady too, so I know it will be awesome.
The fact that a Tekken Advance combo video exists is incredible, honestly.
the sad part is that there are about 5 different combo movies for the game up on youtube.

But will it compare to the astounding SFA 2 guide from Versus Books?

That was the proverbial :bomb: .

is versus books still around? I still think they had some of the best fighter guides ever released. I still go back to my old Tekekn 3 arcade versus guide for some very well put together info.

Question about MOTW: Marco Rodriguez... I coulda sworn that when I originally played Garou on an emulator, he was called Kushwood Butt or something ridiculous... am I just imagining things or...?

Yeah, good ole' Butt... I like the name Butt better actually, but I'm sure there's reason for the change.

Anything new in the world of fighting games? I haven't played much of anything recently.

I guess I'll pick up SF Alpha Anthology next week. That should keep me busy. I'd love to see an X-Box version just for some online play. Is there any good chance of that happening?

New stuff in the world of fighting games? Not 'till the 22nd when KOF XI comes out in Japan.

I doubt we'd see an Xbox version of SF Alpha Anthology at this point on the Xbox. The system is dead and it doesn't make sense to put all that work into adding online play when there wouldn't be much of a return.

Yeah I feel the same way about the chances of a Xbox version. In the US it's just hard for us to get any fighting game online.

But SF 3rd Strike still does well online. I'd asume Alpha would also be played alot since it has a pretty good size fan base. I'd play it.

Hardcore people would play it, but when the Xbox is dead, it just doesn't seem worth implementing an entire online system for the 5 or 6 games included on Alpha Anthology. Hell, the game's at a budget price as it is so Capcom really has very little to gain considering that it's exclusively the hardcore fighting fans that would bother with the game on the Xbox at this point.

I love the Alpha series like crazy but can't stand SFIII. I always felt like SFIII was very overated.

Exactly... and since it would probably never be on the backwards compatibility list, it's forever stuck on a "dead" system.
Yeah, good ole' Butt... I like the name Butt better actually, but I'm sure there's reason for the change.
The reason behind his name change was that a martial arts school near SNK's offices in Southern California went by the same name. So, to circumvent potential litigation, his name was changed. However, why they changed it to such an eclectic one is anyone's guess.

Credit goes to Wikipedia.

SNK exec: "we're changing Marco Rodriguez's name for the U.S. release"

Programmer: "but, but, but..."

SNK exec: "Hmmmm...Butt. I like the sound of that. Very proactive and synergetic. Butt it is."

I thought it was just a marketing meeting that went:

"What are those damn American kids into today?"

"Uh... well my son calls me a bitch-bastard and an ass sometimes"

"Let's call him 'Butt' then... we at SNKP USA truly understand the world around us."

On a side note, I love that Terry says "Come on, get SERIASSS." It's awesome because now I have something else to yell. I still need the hat though.

I love the Alpha series but also love SFIII. What coulnd't you stand about III?
I love the Alpha series but also love SFIII. What coulnd't you stand about III?
Highs about SFIII:
-Parry System
-Characters played quite differently from each other

My annoyances:
-Feels very slow, even when compared to the original SFII for me (even top level play I've been part of still feels slow)
-Limited Supers
-No character has a style I enjoy using at all (other than the Shotos, but I try to stay away from those guys)
-The music/announcer (don't get me started)
- more than this, but I don't feel like going over the details

one question I always wanted to know the answer to is that if capcom released this with no SF characters and named it something else, would it still be played as much as it is now? I would say yes and no probably >_<

as a note abotu the Alpha series... i really want capcom to incorporate some of their Rival Schools characters since it's in the same universe as Final Fight and SF... they already got a Kyosuke sprite, so why not some Gan, Daigo, and Roberto action?

I like SFIII a lot, but I'd agree with the slower gameplay and lower emphasis on supers being factors that put it below the Alpha series for me. It's definitely a deep, strategic fighting game, but I do prefer the more chaotic feeling of stuff like SFA.

yeah, the chaos makes for some crazy fights. I see SFIII as the methodical persons' type of fighter, which is a nice change of pace for fighters actually.
Alpha 3 for me
does anyone ever think Alpha 4 will ever happen? seeing capcom's track record seems to point at them stopping at the number 3 always...

I thought that Alpha 3 was supposed to be the last one for sure. Like, the storyline was finished.

 but there were too many damn cliffhangers like usual.
 but there were too many damn cliffhangers like usual.
Those are resolved or the conflicts are continued in the normal SF series... at least, that's what some hardcore fans claim.

I just wish that capcom would've made a 4 player dramatic battle in one of their releases... it makes sense to do so I would say... plus the fighting would be insanely crazy and the combo possabilitys would be just insane.

Got Neowave today, finally. But I guess I missed the live party?

I'm also not really getting the different gameplay modes. Anyone care to explain them better than the shitty manual?

By the different modes, do you mean the difference between Arcade and Single Play? Arcade is simply the standard teams of 3 facing off while single play simply has you select one character like a standard fighting game.
Got Neowave today, finally. But I guess I missed the live party?
Either that or everyone else is having a hard time finding the game.
For me I prefer Stret Fighter III: 3rd Strike, but I like the Alpha series as well, namely 1 and 2. Alpha 1 chains ftw!
Yeah, A2 Gold is easily my favorite Alpha. Never really got into 3, it's decent but I'm not real big on the ISM system. I like having the super/Custom Combo option, like in A2. I also like the Alpha Counters in A2 alot (particularly in Gold, where they took more super so they weren't abusable)

a random piece of street fighter trivia i found out a short while back that some of you guys might not have known:

the custom combos first seen in alpha 2 were actually a developmental idea for super street fighter 2 turbo. for some reason or other, they decided to go with super moves instead, and they brought back the idea for alpha 2. wouldn't that shit have been crazy?

there proabably would have been some very broken combos, but it would have been insane.

I wish they would do it but in the timeline between 2 and 3

It has Robert Garcia. That alone should convince you. But if it doesn't, eh... it's only $20 and there's absolutely no good KoF games heading to the US for a looooong time considering that absolutely nothing's scheduled. This is the last 2D KoF we might ever see over here. If you don't buy it now, you might miss it forever.

Okay, so slightly BS, but go buy it anyway -- it's got a great selection of characters and it's addictive as hell.

the next KoF game to be released is either a toss up between KoFMI2 or KoF DS.
At least KoF DS has Wifi play, which I hope to use when going against a few of you guys.
