CAG Gaming Collections - Thread #2

Well, it's slightly dated... reason being that I barely missed the cut-off for getting a 60GB at launch, and was stuck with a 20GB until sometime in early December (there's no way I was going to leave empty-handed). Either way, you get the idea. Perhaps I'll take a new picture if I'm not feeling lazy in the morning.

I don't have anything special to boast about. in fact this post is almost completely off topic.

In attempt to build a set up, I bought an Olevia LCD last week that sucked ass at everything but HD. PS2 games looked like PS1 games on it, DVDs looked like ass, SDTV looked worse than my 17 year old tube tv, tons of ghosting and blurring at non-hd settings etc.
After about 2 days of adjusting literally everything and messing with every last combination of settings possible, I found out it was an inherent problem with the chipset on this particular model. This problem screws up 480i/p permanently. Why a company would put a TV like this out is beyond me. Maybe it's because they know people are dumb and that smart people will return it without thinking twice, but 100s of dumbasses will go on the internet and rave about what a great value the TV is. Luckily I found the one small group of smart people on avs who had this problem figured out.

But I got rid of it and got a 27" Samsung CRT HD monitor today that is perfect for my needs. It's about 5 years old but it was only $250 and in absolutely perfect shape.

I actually prefer the larger, smoother 480p picture on this over the nice looking but tiny and almost-to-sharp 1080i picture I was getting on the Olevia LCD. It's not as detailed, but it's easier on the eyes. I was playing tekken and vf with some friends and they were complaining that the Olevia was too bright--then we'd turn down the contrast and brightness and the picture would go to shit! this new tv will hold me over until I can afford one of those XBRs.

anyway, the point of my post: don't buy a fucking Olevia. Save up and do it right.

Is that a KDF-60XS955 I see? I have one too but I also got one of the newer XBR's

I keep my handheld shit in my nightstand where my lcd desktop screen is.. that's a 27 inch though.. great quality sound/video, love that tv :]
So, my set-up is kind of split up. While all of my gaming paraphenalia is in the "gameroom," I actually play out in the living room. Yes, I know there's a TV in the game room, but the TV in the living room is just to irresistible to ignore. Anyways, as promised, pictures of the new set-up:

what you see what you first enter the gameroom.

a sideways picture of the games and display cabinet (both built by me). 4 shelves of PS2 games + 1 shelf of PS1.

close up of the cabinet.

close up of games pt. 1

close up of games pt. 2 (anything with a green sticker= beaten)

a different view of the games/cabinet. Can also see the guitar and Sephiroth sword on the wall.

other side of the room. Computer desk with my collection of guides tucked beneath.

close up of the guide collection. The stuff on the right is just "there." The stuff on the left is in another set of shelves that I built (probably going to expand it out to include the stuff that's just "there").

Cloud's buster sword which will be hung above the window in picture #1 once I get the wall mounts in that I ordered this weekend.

The other wall in the room. Has a couple of posters and the futon.

Where all the gameplay takes place. 42" widescreen Viewsonic + surround sound. The shelves on either side of the entertainment center house movies with the very bottom row of each set being PS1 games.

A "better" look at the TV (sorry, can't figure out how to turn off the flash).

All together, 250 PS2 games + 120 PS1 games on display. Not a clue how many movies.
good god man, that's a lot of guides :D

I have a new Boston Acustics center-channel speaker on the way that'll fill up the spot directly under the TV.

Best part: The price. Actually, now that I think about it - The PS3 cost more than my TV (30" Philips HD CRT) and Sound System (1000W Pioneer HTiB) combined! Both are excellent quality though! :D

I'll post pics in the morning...

I have a 26" LG LCD TV/Monitor with a 22" LG LCD Monitor right next to it. I have logitech Z5500 speakers (5.1 surround sound). As far as gaming goes I have an Xbox 360, Wii, Gamecube, PS2 Slim and DS and my PC.

Seen it on other sites lets see the pics of your Gaming set ups

I just got a tv as my main thing no real sound system because i don't care for super loud noises.

is that in 1080p.... damn that looks good..
is that in 1080p.... damn that looks good..
That is Resistance right, if so it doesnt do 1080p... I dont know it does 1080i... if so you probably wouldnt be able to tell too much of a difference since it is a good tv

there ya go

A lot of the setup's that have been posted so far look pretty sweet but at the same time look cluttered and messy. Whats up with that?

Its hard NOT to be a bit cluttered with anywhere between 2-8 systems hooked up at once. Mine is a MESS and I just moved my 360 to the bedroom.

Old pics:

Sony Bravia KDL46XBR2 46 inch LCD TV. I got my PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360, and Xbox hooked up to this unit.

TV Side.... which is connected to...

The computer side...

And here's another shot of the TV.

That's the next gen gaming area. Here's where the rest of the gaming goes down:

Sony Wega XBR1 40 inch CRT TV. Got the Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii, PS2, Xbox, and NES hooked up to it.

In my garage I have these three hooked up:

Sega Astro City 29 cabinet with Street Fighter II: World Warrior.

Tekken Tag Tournament arcade cabinet.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection arcade board. System 256 running off a MAS Systems Super Nova supergun on a 27 inch CRT TV.

These are all old pics though.... might take new ones soon. :)

Lazy to take pics of my arcade sticks.
is that in 1080p.... damn that looks good..
Resistance is a 720p max game, but you're right, it looks damn good.

You win the thread with all that. It simply must be asked though -- is that you on the left?

Here, here! I have a follower now.

Err... but yeah, glad you found something that works for you now.
Chacrana: Nope that's not me...

Will update with new pics this week... getting some more "stuff" this week.
Ever the mystery man, eh? Well, whatever. I'm sure whatever new stuff you're getting, it's arcade stick related

Not sure why you had to CAPITALIZE some of your WORDS but you haven't even posted a picture of your setup yet. I'm sorry if what I said offended you in any way. But by the way you reacted your setup must be messy and cluttered

Hmmm I'm looking for an HD solution myself. I was interested in a Westinghouse because they're relatively cheap. However, I don't want a TV that looks like crap when playing my older systems/ watching DVDs.

Westinghouse, I hear is one of the better cheap Tvs. Any recommendations?

Westinghouse is one of the better cheap TVs, but it's still not great. I'd personally recommend stepping up to either a Sony or Sharp if you can... Samsung falls below those two, but above Westinghouse. Do not go with Vizio, Sceptre, Olevia, or other particularly shitty TVs from companies with no reputation. I guarantee you that somebody here will tell you to go with one of those and I'm here to tell you not to listen. I'm well aware that this makes me sound like an asshole (and that's probably true), but they are wrong.

dude what are u talking about. i have both a panasonic 42 in. and a vizio 50 in plasma tvs and i will tell you that the vizio has better picture quality. dont listen to that brand name bull shit, there are other great tv's out there.
good god man, that's a lot of guides :D
Oh, but there are many more to be had. The search is never over.
Am I the only one that still uses an SDTV?
Ok, Glad I'm not the only one either, lol.

Though hopefully if I take this job up over the summer i'll buy myself a nice set.

I wouldn't base my purchase off brand name, but off the TVs specific model number. Just do some research on the internet, especially AVS. Sometimes, you can find a fantastic TV from a lesser known company for cheap.

If you're in the market for a new TV, I would recommend waiting until around May-June-July, when you will be able to pick up some of last year's models on the cheap (as this years are rolled out). If you're super patient the next time to buy will be around Thanksgiving next year, when some older models should hit spectacular Black Friday / holiday clearances.

For the record, you definitely get what you pay for. I'm personally waiting on a Sony XBR2 to fall to about 1.5k, which should happen within the next year.

ya'll caggers have successfully made me ashame of my collection. *drool* just looking at those pics on pg2
A lot of the setup's that have been posted so far look pretty sweet but at the same time look cluttered and messy. Whats up with that?
Seriously. Lol.

I keep my set up clean as possible, no wires!

Ill show mine tomorrow.

(Accutally mine isnt that clean... I use my Yamaha box as a stand for my Moxi.)
Do you guys with larger sized collections have any tips on storing/displaying controllers?

Here is my current count of systems that I currently have connected/not in storage:

360 - 4 Controllers
PS2 - 4+ Controllers
Wii - 4 GC/ 4 Wiimotes
DC - 4 Controllers
-------------------------
Total = 20 controllers not including the ones in storage (snes, genesis, nes, etc)

I'm trying to think of more elegant and/or efficient ways to store them for easy access. I'd like something in the middle of the continuum between storing them all in a rubbermaid box and laying them all out individually on a shelf.

I was thinking of some sort of cubbyhole/pigeonhole system for them, so that they would be organized with easy access and efficient use of space. I'd prefer something available to buy if possible, because i'm too lazy to make stuff by hand (usually).

Any thoughts/suggestions?
Get a really nice door hanging shoe organizer like this:

Here's a couple pics of my 42" Westy. With as shitty as my camera is, I think it's a testament to how good the picture actually looks. If there's artifacting/blur, it's the camera. If I ever get a new camera, I'll get some better pics.

Xbox 360 Dashboard

The Departed HD-DVD

NIN: Live Beside You in Time HD-DVD

heres a general overview pic. I'll have a few more later.

Zew see the part where I stabbed a hole in the roof with a steak knife. :)

okay, here's the round up.

The TV, damn flash ruined it *edit* thats my bros. wal-mart tag.

Heres the good ol' mr ryles hand built computer (note the hats ;) )

heres the small but good game collection. Not all of it, but the main of it.

whoever said the setups are a mess, here is more proof to that. (Wii not pictured)

Lastly the fish tank for good measure. I have 2 baby sharks, but they just hide under the log most the time.
Yep.

Just wish I had a picture of the 1,000 plus games I used to own... now all the games I own barely fill up a bookshelf.

And Daroga, I was never able to answer that question of why own 100's of games when you probably won't ever touch 1/10 of them, so I dumped mine ;)

I think the only outstanding "omfg super rares I want to showoff" thing I own now is a sealed MGS 3 LE.
