CAG Gran Turismo 5 [CAG Race Night - Now Sundays at 6PM PST!]
Spec 2.0 Update:
Added a setting sheet feature allowing you to save multiple car settings...
Replay front forward/rewind
Expanded online lounge features (Narrowing down car types, shuffle races)...
Sweet... Multiple car setups and rewind on replays are something I've been wAnting since day one. I'm interested to see what they do with the multiplayer lobby, but I don't expect much other than some additional settings.

I'll admit, while in-car views are nice for the standard cars, I'm guessing there won't be any tracks included in this update. Here's hoping the DLC isn't too expensive.

EDIT: added 9 and 10 :D
EDIT2: added 11 and 12
EDIT3: added 13, 14, and 15
EDIT4: added DLC information

See the entire list HERE!

I wish they'd put the new courses in spec 2. If I don't buy the DLC and everyone else does, no more racing online for me if you guys choose to use the new courses.

I can already guarantee that if the DLC is $10-15 it's pretty much an instant buy. After seeing all the stuff we're getting for free via Spec 2.0, I feel compelled to support PD and at least their first DLC pack.

I hope thats a teaser of Caterham with a real engine in it.

Edit: On another note, has anyone been watching GT Academy on SPEED?

Edit: Also new Seasonal and OCD update. Nothing really special with the seasonals, but there is a lot of speed in the OCD. I would recommend the Suzuki, for those who were let down by the game's Caterham. Also, if people have the cash, it may be cool to race some of the LMP cars on something fast and technical like Nurburgring. Vettel snagged the WDC this a few hours ago and the X2010 is already been gifted. Along with the X2010, theres an incredibly easy new seasonal at Suzuka thats worth 5 Millions credits. Unfortunately, its not worth any exp.

We racing tonights? I'm not real fussy about the track choice, but I do think the rally was a bit of a "fail" last week. :S

I'll be online tonight as usual. I think we should have a X2010 race...

475PP Lotus on Eiger Short Reverse - 5 laps
460PP Mini Coopers on Tsukuba Circuit - 5 laps
550PP BMW vs Mercedes on Autumn Ring - 4 laps
600PP Super Touring Cars on Daytona Road Course - 3 laps
Red Bull X2010 on Special Stage Route 7 - 5 laps

*Note: all races will be using Racing Soft tires.
Figured I'd post this since Syn has his and smthng has one too, they can provide feedback on the controller. Electronic's Expo is a real legitimate store, I bought two TVs, a receiver, subwoofer and two sat surround speakers.

http://www.electronics-expo.com/make-a-store/item/INTHKS/InterWorks-Unlimited/HKS/1.html
I've had mine for almost a full year and it's just now starting to show signs of wear. I've used it just about every week this year, whether it's for F1 2010, GT5, or NASCAR 2011. The material on the "wheel" is a little frayed, but still easily usable, though my SELECT and HOME buttons require me to press pretty hard to get it to register. I'd still buy one in a heartbeat for $26. Hell of a lot cheaper than a wheel, and it's easy to plug in and play.

That said, if I had a wheel/setup I'd totally take that over a controller ;)

EDIT: I see shipping is $5.99. For literally a few cents more, you can get it on Amazon...

Thats an interesting controller, does it really help that much? Does it take awhile to adjust to using it?

Doesn't really take too much time to adjust. And yes, it DOES make a difference. Aside from the X2010, most cars are much smoother with the HKS controller.

The Gran Turismo site also has a preview of all the DLC. I was hoping for a bit more, but Ill probably go with the full pack. The paint colors are actually pretty cool and there are enough notable new cars that I can justify those too. Spa being my fourth favorite track of all time makes the tracks worth it. The new Kart track is really something else.
image01.jpg

Must admit, I was really hoping for more tracks. 1 track (kart doesn't count) is pretty pathetic...

EDIT: I think I'm going to pass. Even though the entire bundle is $12, I can't support such a lackluster effort. 1 new track, really? Oh well. Battlefield 3 and House of the Dead: Overkill come out on the 25th. Even worse, the GT fans will snap this up, but in reality Forza 4 is shit all over GT5. I was honestly expecting PD to over AT LEAST 3-4 tracks, a new kart track or two, and 10-15 different cars...not 4 new GT-R's, and some upgraded models...
I might have to pick that up, then again maybe Ill just pretend you all have them and use that as an excuse why you all are always faster than I am.
I'm not quite as thrilled with the HKS as Syn. The rubber on the wheel is starting to come off, but I'm pretty heavy handed. The D-Pad is completely dead. The "pedal" buttons aren't anywhere near as controllable as I think they should be. As soon as I find the receipt, I'll be giving HKS a call and seeing how much of a PITA a warranty claim can be.

However... I do think it's way better than the dual shock for racing. It's not going to be as accurate as a wheel, but it's not as much of a PITA to set up every time you want to race. I have a wheel, but have been using the HKS because I haven't completely finished setting up my PS3/TV/Stereo and I don't want to throw a wheel and a USB hub into that mix until I'm completely set on where I want everything.

Even though I think the HKS could easily be MUCH better if they did some minor tweaks to it, I'd probably buy another at that price if any more of my buttons fail. Who knows, maybe mine was made on Friday an hour before quitting time.
Spec II update is live. (1.2GBs)
I'm rather unimpressed. :( I know it may be a little odd, but the thing I was looking forward to most was the rewind in replays. It's almost... but not quite... useless.

"Polyphony... look at a remote control on any decent blu-ray player. Play with all the buttons while watching something. Just make GT5 do that."

I'll probably get the DLC pack even though I'm a little disappointed in that as well. I was prepared to pay a couple bucks for a decent track or two, an Spa is definitely one I want. The rest is just candy.
Even worse, the GT fans will snap this up, but in reality Forza 4 is shit all over GT5.
Have you played Forza 4 yet? I didn't care for 1 and 2, but what I have seen of 4 looks impressive. Im wondering if its worth buying a whole system just for a racing game. The main thing I love about GT 5 is the tuning. Im curious how it compares to Forza's options.

As for the DLC, I can understand expecting more. If this pack had come out earlier, I would have probably passed, but after months of consistent updates, I dont mind overpaying a little. Personally, I was hoping for some more obscure cars as it was early GT titles that first turned me on to many of my favorites (Europa, Chapparral).

Finally, I have to admit I was a little surprised at the GT-R comment. I realize GT-Rs all look similar, but they hardly drive similar. Just look at the Blitz and the Mine from GT5:prologue. Those two are even the same generation of GT-R and yet two completely different beasts.
Congrats on getting married Syn. If I didn't check twitter, I'd probably never know.
I just feel they could have expanded into other manufacturers and cars...as far as Spa, I love that track but I hate the idea of paying $11.99 for 1 track, a few new cars, and paint/gear I probably won't use.

Yeah I'm really leaning towards just the track pack or maybe even waiting until we know what the DLC strategy is going forward. (at least so far as frequency and themes)

But that Kart track looks great and if I'm going to splurge for Spa and the Kart track then I'm going to want some more karts (with headlights) to race in and then I'm right back into $11.99 for the whole shebang.

I'm not necessarily arguing that the $11.99 price is bad, for everyone, it's indeed a bargain. BUT I wanted more tracks, you know, those things that are required for the cars to race on ;) I'm 50/50 right now. If most of the CAG Night-ers get it, I'll probably pick it up so we can still enjoy CAG Night, but we'll see.

I think that a lot of it comes down to just not knowing how it's all going to work/integrate.

All of the cars, gear, and paint are gifted using the existing system but how locked-down are those cars in terms of trading/gifting and what about the typical single-use paint chips and their viability because of that even at the $1.99.

Then you have the tracks; will they be used in seasonal events and so forth.

Of course you look around online and everyone seems to know those answers but we really haven't had any kind of official specifics on most of that stuff. It all just makes me want to wait and see what the full plan is going forward and how exactly the added content will work. (as opposed to the informed speculation which we are currently getting)

edit: Just saw that the DLC Karts are available in Arcade mode. That leads me to believe something which I was already thinking: Most/all of the DLC content is in the 2.0 update and paying for it next week will probably net you a 100kb unlock ticket. That's not a bad thing and probably the smartest way to do it really but it does lead to more questions about exactly how all of the added stuff is integrated. (that and people are reporting that they've received some of the DLC gear as prizes already...makes me wonder what all is unlockable from the upcoming paid content)

I concur on congrats, but it is overrated. :) See Big Bang Theory from last week.

Hey guys, I see alot of you arent liking the $12 for the DLC, if you got a paypal we need a couple more in a gameshare group for the dlc (check the gameshare forums) Itll be $2.60 a piece unless we need a $20 card then itll be $4 a piece and well probably get a cheapy psn game

Edit-Im hosting the group so its gonna be either $2.60 a share or maybe $3 depending on how I can put the money on

Or we could just look at you? Muahaha.

You going to be racing any? It's not the same if we can't drive each other off the road.

It's on like Donkey Kong!

If you race Sunday, I'll DVR Dexter...and I'll make sure I have everything setup beforehand. I'll even use the racing wheel so I will be extra crappy - assuming I can sit in the chair that long due to my back problems this week.

We should setup a "blow off" race. Something like RWD muscle cars on a figure 8 track. None of this over/under stuff....you need to time it right to get through the cross over.

If someone can find me a figure-8, you will be a god. But I'm all for a big race night this coming Sunday. I'm up for a nice variety of races too.

Everyone should go out and buy Shift. Its like $10 now and has some awesome courses for multiplayer, including a figure 8. Its not GT quality but if youre looking to blow off steam its a hell of a game to do it.

I actually have almost all of the NFS games for PS3 and really like most of them. Looking forward to The Run quite a bit. Sometimes I don't want a "sim" racer. ;)

Feeling out cars for a race for Sunday, so far I'm liking the Jap 90's seasonal 450pp. I definitely am considering a Mini race since you guys have Minis and there is a seasonal. If evil makes it, Laguna Seca 550pp Classic American Muscle dirty race.

I enjoyed the 650PP on Sarthe from last time. Perhaps we can lose the tire wear and and some more boost to compensate for the sand traps. Itd also give us a chance to play with the new slipstream options.

Race line-up for Sunday so far:

460PP Mini's on Madrid Reverse - 4 laps
450PP 90's Japanese (no RM's) on Autumn Ring Reverse - 5 laps
550PP Classic USA Muscle ('70 or earlier, FR) on Mazda Laguna Seca - 5 laps (Grudge Match)
650PP Anything Goes on Sarthe 2009 (no chicane) - 3 laps (boost on High)

Minis on Madrid Reverse, 4 Laps? (1:35 a lap)
90's Japs on Autumn Ring Reverse?

Define "classic". 70's and earlier FR?

I'd say 70's and earlier. FR sounds right...definitely no FF. We want RWD so everyone has the same disadvantage. :) Especially if I am using the seat and my wheel.

What does Grudge Match mean?

Also as a heads up, I plan on running an original Mini in the Mini race, a MKIII Supra in the 90s race, a GT350 in the muscle race and my darling Enzo in the all out at Sarthe.

One of the first couple of weeks of racing, we were doing Laguna Seca and Mad and I got into it. There still may be a video back there somewhere with a link to it. Pretty funny stuff since we were trash talking each other the whole race. He clipped me pushing me into the sand right before the hill that leads into the S-curve. I ripped up the hill and barely missed t-boning him into the next century. That's the short version. If you find the video, you will see exactly how close I came. (I'm too lazy to go back and search for it)

Thus, it is called a grudge match on Laguna Seca just for fun. Still, it would be wise to be away from either one of us on that track. To quote Days of Thunder - "Rubbin' is racin'" will be the motto for us there. I will say I think I got him back on another track at some point.

Just to clarify... I think the American muscle should be '70s and earlier, not '70. There are a lot of '71s that are American muscle, but nothing later than that until you get into the '80s. It would be a shame to exclude the Mach 1, Super Bee and the Cuda just because they're '71s.

That car is terrible at anything that makes the rear tires spin.

There are no rules. You are free to intentionally ram, spin, bump anyone in your way to try and win.

Haha, isn't that most of the other races we do?

Ill think about another car. Are you just referring to the stock 350R or did you do any tuning to get rid of the low traction in the rear? I guess if its going to be full contact I may actually want to go with the heaviest I can find instead of the lightest. What tires are we running in each race?

At 550PP you will not have any traction no matter what you do to it. For whatever reason and whatever way, the only way to help it is to throw on ASM and Steering Assist. The car as a whole is a fail once modded. I've tuned for understeer, jacked up traction control and so many other things to make that car work. It just wouldn't work. Syn used it for the first time and never again. He also came in dead last in that race because the car was uncontrollable.
