Whew...all I can say is thank God this game was indoors. With "weather conditions" that can only be described as "Hawaiian Time Slip", this game had a pretty good amount of button lag. There were times when I couldn't even select my play because I had to press the button 3-4 times, or I'd select the wrong play because it would chug forward all of a sudden. I don't think it was G33's fault...just a long way for that data to travel. I'll take my usual stance and just blame Comcast, lol.

Anyway, Drew Brees had a pretty good game, going 14-20 for 215 yards, with 1 TD and 1 INT (which was a pick 6...but I can't blame him since I had to hammer on the button 2-3 times before he would pass the ball, lol). Jimmy Graham had another big day, hauling in 6 catches for 106 yds. And the Saints defense limited Peyton Manning to 7-13 for 85 yds, with 0 TDs and 1 INT, and held the Colts to 139 yds of total offense. Pretty ugly game. I can only imagine what it would have looked like if the Superdome sprinklers had come on, haha. GG, G33.
Nah, it's not your connection, it's the connection I'm currently on. I'm at a relative's place for the holidays and will remain here until I transition back to the dorms in a week or so, and on this connection, I get anything from 12 KB/s to 80 KB/s. Yeah, I can't even find a positive thing to say about that. At the dorms though, I'll get anywhere from 600 KB/s to 8 MB/s, so it's just the next couple of games that my connection is going to tank hard.

DVO - sent ya a PM.

Np at all, glad you got a new disc (I have been there with my son on numerous games).
G33, are you still controlling the 49ers? If so PM me or something about when you might be available.
I am playing him (Colts v Titans) around 10pmEST tonight.

In other news, Titans looking to go 3-1 since I took over.

I am hopping on..but I sent the PM almost 2 hours before you responded..did you really think I was going to sit there and refresh every 30 seconds waiting to sub?

Eagles - 14
Cowboys - 10

Good game DVO, I would kill to be able to get my players come off the line like you do. Good playcalling/player control of your D. It killed any rushing attack I could get, as any holes on the inside or outside were immediately plugged. I had to rely on Vick's arm to win me the game and he was able to come through. He surprised me by being deadly accurate on short passes..I will have to look and see what his rating is for that.

Damn good surprise onside kick too.

Ballsy play of the game - 4th and 9, late in the 4th and he runs it with Romo (first time he had all game). Completely took me by surprise and he picked up the first.

really enjoyed the game myself but i think play of the game was the game ending INT thrown by romo. nice pick it broke my heart lol. vicks are was what won this game. as for my running game my line needs big time work for it kills my running game and doesnt give romo enough time to get the ball off very often or give WRs time to get open or run routes. but im in love with my defense although it need work in areas as Yank pointed out to me with his offensive successful attacks.
GG bro had fun wouldnt mind seeing wut u can do with them falcons

Good game G33!

The final score was 28-7. My team moves to 4-3 (3-1 under me).
I was finally able to get Chris Johnson going with 169 yards on 16 caries for 2 TDs.
Also, I could see Barret Ruud taking a swing at defensive player of the week with 6 tackles, 1 FF for a TD.

hey just curious if u guyes are looking for more guyes to join the league i got some friends that might be interested that work with me in the army there not the greatest players and are all looking to get better

I'm open to it, but they've gotta be on CAG and be easy to get in touch with. Either that, or you're going to have to handle "secretary duty" (which I'd rather not do...because it takes longer to get a message through 3 people than it does through 2). They also need to be familiar with the rules and know what's expected of them. If they're good with that, then they're more than welcome to post in here and pick up a team.

Finally had time to update the stats site and get this posted.

Week 7 Summary

Power Rankings
1. Arizona Cardinals
2. Denver Broncos
3. St. Louis Rams
4. Kansas City Chiefs
5. Buffalo Bills

Offensive Player of the Week
Maurice Jones-Drew - 26 att, 205 yds, 2 TDs

Defensive Player of the Week
Muhammad Wilkerson - 7 tackles, 5 sacks

GG, DocB. I really wish MJD hadn't had such a case of the fumbles. I've played at least a couple rainy games in Jacksonville this season, and I don't think he's coughed it up once. However, playing indoors at Reliant Stadium makes his hands go numb.

I did have a nice surprise onside kick recovery, though. I hope you didn't feel like that was cheap. My D wasn't stopping anything and I knew it was a last resort-type thing. I recovered, and then Jones-Drew handed it right back to you. So much frustration. Good game, though, and I look forward to our rematch later on this season.

Oh, and sorry about not joining the voice chat. I don't have a working headset right now.

Not at all man. I understand believe me I do. I would have done the same thing. My defense was on tonite for some reason even without Joseph (my top corner was just traded) I felt good playing. I just looked and my defense had 3 forced fumbles, 2 of which were from a Safety somehow?

I move to 3-5 on the season and my passing game continues to get better.

Schaub was 14/19 with 306 yards, 2 TD's and no picks. I think the league is definitely teaching me how to be a better "Madden" QB.

GG pitfall and I definitely look forward to playing you again. I think this was our second game against one another and we have 1 or 2 more actually scheduled. Like it or not we are stuck with each other this year. Ha. What was our other game again?

If everybody really wants to do another round and feels there's a need for it, we could do one at week 10. However, if people want another round, I'd like to hear a "why" though to support their stance.
Hey n8. PMed you about our game. Let me know your availability!
Today is going to be tough. Got a lot going on today. I might have some time in about 2-3 hours, but I can't promise anything yet. I'll try to keep you posted.
I gotta gig tonight (musician), so we probably have to do tomorrow. Can we say maybe 2 p.m.?
Yeah, I can try for 2 PM tomorrow. I can't really dictate my daughter's feeding schedule, but hopefully I can make 2 PM work. I assume you're talking EST?

Is anyone available to play the 49ers next two games (one this week) and the Colts next game? I've played two games and attempted to play a third, but the connection I'm on has gone from being slow, but reliable, to slow and unreliable. Starting next weekend, I'll be on a stable connection, so I'll pick up from then.

I can try. If you play the 49ers this week or the Colts game then Pm me and I'll try to make times work

I'm posting here since mobile PMs are difficult, but I play the 49ers this week. I'm gonna be out tonight, but tomorrow between 12-4 would be good. Late tonight may be possible.
I'm done with Madden. Sorry, but this game frustrates me more than any other.
There's definitely a point with this game where things start to click. It just takes a TREMENDOUS amount of time to get there. I've played almost 100 ranked games and I still get absolutely dominated by certain players. Without question, there are certain plays that just work better than others. I've just now begun to stumble onto some plays that give me some semblance of a running game. It often feels like your linemen's ability has more to do with the play you call than their skill level. Sometimes, they'll push the line back 5 yards. Other times, they'll stand there and just let guys walk right by them.

Same thing on defense. Some Cover 2's don't work worth shit for covering the middle of the field (even though the play art shows that as being their main purpose). Your players will just stand there and let receivers zig zag right in front of them. Other times, you can call man defense and they'll leap infront of guys and snatch the ball away. Almost every game feels like a challenge to find out which type of plays will work for that particular game. Yeah, some of it has to do with your opponent's play style. But I've had plenty of games where I'm calling the right plays to deal with how my opponent is playing, and they just don't work. You have to keep constantly adjusting.

That's another thing that is critical: adjusting at the line. A lot of times in this game, even if you stack 8 in the box, if your opponent runs a toss to the outside, he will beat everybody to the sideline and your DBs will most likely get chop blocked/shoved in the back (neither of which is ever a penalty) and taken out of the play. If you're not shifting your d-line and calling a blitz to the side you think the run is going to, you're most likely giving up 20+ yards. This works too often because of the speed boost ball carriers get when they get to the outside. I think it's the main reason the rushing numbers are so high this year. Some people can routinely gain 300 yards a game with speed backs because they know the right plays to call to get them to the outside. If you're not calling blitzes and shifting your line on these people, you're screwed.

It's frustrating as hell, but the sooner you accept it, the sooner you can move on and try to find something else that will work. Of course, some games, nothing will work, and it just feels like the game wants you to lose. Those are the games you just curse continuously, slam your controller down, turn your Xbox off, and try to forget the game ever happened. It's crazy, but I actually feel like NHL is cheaper than Madden in a lot of ways. Playing it again the past couple nights, it's unbelievable how poor the AI plays. If the Madden AI just turned around and ran away from the ball, I think I would go on a shooting spree.

The biggest thing is recognizing if people in this league are trying to cheat you or if your skill level just isn't there yet. As long as it's not the first one, all you can do is keep working at it. As I've told others, I'm sure there are some people in this league who will "graduate" and become too good for the rest of the players here. Those people will be respectfully asked to move on. But we can't allow that to be an excuse for the rest of us not getting any better either. The expectation of this league was for people to improve. If some are improving and others aren't, it's going to create that same gap in skill that the other league has. The best we can do is try to minimize it by working together to get better.
I think the trade is fair. I'm assuming that the league is going to run for several seasons, in which case the Cowboys win the trade now, while the Texans potentially win later (assuming a good player is drafted in the 2nd round).
i thought the rade deadline had past

I can prob play tomorrow around noon EST.
Based on what?
Probably just basing it on an assumption that we were using the official NFL trading deadline.
I'm done with Madden. Sorry, but this game frustrates me more than any other.
I hope that was just a fit of rage (we have all been there) and not something you are actually doing. We got a good league going, what is the problem?

Please share. :D

My running game has turned to shit lately. Thankfully, I am improving my passing a little bit to compensate.

Too true. The Cover 2 can be rewarding at times when the players run it properly and infuriating when they do not. I guess it is a decent simulator for how coaches must feel when talented players are out of position or do not follow the schemes properly.

I definitely do not have the play experience as a lot of you (my only online Madden experience *ever* has really come from this league this year), but I am finding that I cannot blitz if I am facing speed backs and an outside running game while controlling LBs/S to push the defense in the direction the line goes to create holes after the snap. I do not really make any presnap adjustments and just try to read the play as it starts to appear after the snap. I don't know if I just got lucky a few times or not is the problem.

I should try playing a few games online outside the league and see how different things are. I am just afraid of matching up against people that don't care about playing a game of football and just want to try ridiculous shit to win and rage quit when/if it doesn't work.

If I'm there at that time, it will be by the grace of my wife, so be thankful. (also I'm still assuming EST since you never confirmed that. You do realize that not everyone has the same 3 PM right?) For someone who has kids, I hope you can grasp that I planned for 2 PM, asking her to take "baby duty" for that time (which she's actually had since 8 AM while I've been sleeping).

Obviously, I can't blame you for having car trouble, but you have to recognize the way this works. You miss the agreed upon time, you work around my schedule. If we don't get it done soon, it'll have to be later this evening, or we'll have to find a sub for you, or we sim the game.

Now I know that as the OP you want to do everything to keep the league going, but what you said above is true. Maybe the other player has accepted that it's not working for him and his "move on" is to go to another game.

Quite frankly, your 'pep talk', was, if anything, *discouraging* to me. I have not, and *will not*, put in over 100 online games into this version of Madden. There is precious too little time and far too many games for me to put that solely into Madden. For you to say that you've done that and are *still* fumbling around the edges.... well it doesnt make things look to bright for a player like me.

But we'll see how I feel at the end of the season.

Yeah, but I might just suck too, lol. But honestly, that is the reality of how people view this game. I can promise you there are people in the other Madden league (and probably even this league) that ONLY play Madden. The reason I've put so much time into this game is because in getting my ass handed to me week after week in the official league, I was told "you just need to practice more", and I wanted to see once and for all if that made any kind of difference.

Overall, it has. I understand the game better and I have a better grasp on what works and what doesn't work. But when you measure that against people who have been playing Madden for years and years, it's marginal. I mean, we're talking about a game that has remained largely unchanged for how long? The fact that I'm even over .500 in online ranked is encouraging to me. But match me up with one of the "top players" and I'll get ridiculously annihilated. Proof of that just lies in the stats people in the other league put up.

This league was supposed to limit that, and I'm doing the best I can. It's just hard to really assess skill when you bring in people who are getting destroyed in the other league...who come in here and then destroy everybody else. Where do we draw the line? Do we need a "middle school" league too? lol. I will do my best to keep balance in here though, and as I said, anybody who is winning the majority of their games by blowout will be asked to move on to the other league. If they're that good, it makes more sense for them to play up to tougher teams than discourage people who are struggling to just get a couple wins.

Later works fine for me, too. I should be home for the rest of the day.

I've gotta put my official "Commish Hat" on for this one. damailman, when you wanted to join this league, I asked you if you understood the rules and what was expected of you. If you think using your timeouts to get the ball back up 35-3 at the end of the game is part of that, there's something wrong with you.

This is the reason statnut is dropping from the league. Anybody who wants to come over here and act like a piece of shit, don't bother. If you can't grasp why behaving this way is not acceptable, then this isn't the league for you.

I was told that this same thing was done at the end of the 1st half when you were already up 28-0. Even if I let that slide (which to me is borderline...it's a stretch to entertain the idea that a 28 point lead isn't "safe" with an entire half to play), there's no way you need to pull that crap in the 4th quarter. I want an explanation for why you felt it was necessary. Otherwise, your stay in this league will be brief.

Just let me know when you're home. If we can start in the next 30-45 minutes, I should still be able to play. Keeping my fingers crossed that the baby stays asleep.
