CAG League Sports: Madden 12 "JV League" - We Finished 3 Seasons! Thanks Everybody!!!
In fairness, this isn't the reason I'm leaving, but it was the nail in the proverbial coffin.
Not helping me drive the point home here, lol. Regardless of the specifics of WHY, it's not acceptable behavior, and it will discourage people from playing.
I'll play the CPU before the deadline if I have to, just need some notice.
I'd prefer you to not play the CPU. Is your availability limited today? Hoping we can find someone for you before the issue is pressed.
I've gotta put my official "Commish Hat" on for this one. damailman, when you wanted to join this league, I asked you if you understood the rules and what was expected of you. If you think using your timeouts to get the ball back up 35-3 at the end of league for you.

I was told that this same thing was done at the end of the 1st half when you were already up 28-0. Even if I let that slide (which to me is the game is part of that, there's something wrong with you.

This is the reason statnut is dropping from the league. Anybody who wants to come over here and act like a piece of shit, don't bother. If you can't grasp why behaving this way is not acceptable, then this isn't the borderline...it's a stretch to entertain the idea that a 28 point lead isn't "safe" with an entire half to play), there's no way you need to pull that crap in the 4th quarter. I want an explanation for why you felt it was necessary. Otherwise, your stay in this league will be brief.
first off i was calling timeout because one i wanted to sub my tired players off the field furthermore i thought the object of the league was to make each other better so i how can u get better if you give up at half time i was trying to get him involved to take chances and to play the game he was running the clock out and just doing the same play every game the only i know to get better at this game is to play even if your getting the fur torn off u play u you use the opportunity to get better and try new things i was doing everything in my power to get him to play me all i wanted was a game im calling timeouts to give him more time to take chance or something and to get different personal in and see how they play. and the timeouts at the half were used because i wanted to try to get my punt return down so i dont fumble like i did in the game. and a 28 point lead is not secuire i played bv in the other league and he was up on by 28 and i came back to take the game to last drive. anything can happen in this game, up in the first quater is not quarenteed furthermore i wasnt even trying to score i was trying to get more reps on defense as well i punted when i could of kicked a field goal. so if my object was to score i would of kicked the field goal

I'm not too limited was more concerned about our deadline.

Is Aftershock still playing as the Cardinals? Haven't heard from him, but I have also been bad about keeping up these past few days in either league.
Just let me know when you're home. If we can start in the next 30-45 minutes, I should still be able to play. Keeping my fingers crossed that the baby stays asleep.
Getting on right now!

No one asked you to. It's a douche move, and frankly considerably arrogant. If I'm losing by 4 touchdowns, I know what I'm capable of. Scoring 5 isn't one of them. When I fall behind that quickly and feel like the game is ridiculously not in my favor, I want to end the game as quickly as possible.

And subbing your tired defensive players is bullshit, I was running the clock down, calling running plays to end the half.

How does you calling timeouts to get the ball back make him a better player? A lot of times, it's smarter to run the clock out in the 1st half (especially if he's getting the ball to start the 2nd half) rather than force a big play and risk a turnover in his own end. Maybe that WAS him trying to get back into the game. Ever think of that?

Ultimately, it's not your job to "get him to play". It IS your job though to be a humble winner. When you have a 28 point lead with 2 quarters to play, the only way you should lose it is by being a complete idiot (outside of maybe having your RB fumble 3 times). If your opponent keeps pressing and trying to get back into the game, by all means, play defense, run the ball, pick up first downs, etc. But you don't need to be prolonging the game. PERIOD.

This was discussed earlier in the season. If you're winning the game, all you need to be concerned with is ending it as quickly as possible. That goal alone addresses most of the questionable behavior (ie. running the ball keeps the clock moving). Consider this a warning. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.
I'm not too limited was more concerned about our deadline.
Deadline's not till midnight'ish. As long as you're not too limited, we should be able to find someone for you to play.

so how do you plan to get better if when ur down you just shut down. no offense but thats lame you should always try to compete or not play at all i wasnt trying to score or run up the score i was trying to get some run in and some more plays in if i was trying to run the score up i would of scored
Okay well 4-7 I'll be watching the Browns, but free most of the time beyond that.
Hey, I can sub for you if that is cool with everyone. I am on around 10pmEST, but please pm me to firm up the details.

Rams no longer undefeated as the Saints capitalize on turnovers to take this one 24-14.

Sam Bradford, who up until now had been reliable, flung three INTs that gave New Orleans the edge.

St. Louis now falls one game back in the division. Hopefully someone can beat those pesky Redbirds!

GG Nate.

Saints - 24
Rams - 14

Really close game here, with turnovers being the difference maker. Sam Bradford threw 3 picks, one of which was inside the red zone and was returned for a TD. So, that was a big swing. Steven Jackson had a big game, rushing for 105 yards on 15 carries and 1 TD. He also caught 5 balls for 75 yards and 1 TD. Carnell Williams chipped in more of the same, but outside of running backs, the Rams offense sputtered, with Terrell Owens being the only other player to touch the ball.

For the Saints, it was about ball control. Willis McGahee rushed 14 times for 70 yards and 1 TD, and Drew Brees went 4-7 for 83 yards and 1 TD. Brees' 4 completions went to 4 different receivers, with the longest being a 48 yard TD strike to Darren Sproles toward the end of the 1st half. New Orleans held the ball for the entire 3rd quarter as they worked the running game, culminating in McGahee's TD.

gg, lyric. Bit of a feather in my cap to take down an unbeaten team. I'm sure we'll meet again. :)

Honestly have no idea how I got this far unbeaten. And I'm a bit relieved not to have to live up to that any more! Maybe now all you guys can take it a little easier on me!
lol that silly but its cool i know now if im up and i want to play defense just punt the on first down
It's not "silly". It's common sense. If you're winning big, YOU don't need to be doing anything to make the game last longer. If your opponent wants to keep going for big plays down the field, resulting in turnovers, that's on them. But you also can't blame them if they want to just play conservatively and get the game over with.

I'm saying it one final time, when you're winning your objective should be to get the game over with as quickly as possible. Honestly, this should be true no matter what the score is. It's just smart football. If you're going to be a smart ass about it, just leave now.
Hey, I can sub for you if that is cool with everyone. I am on around 10pmEST, but please pm me to firm up the details.
That works for me.
Hey,

Really quick, do I just leave and rejoin as the 49ers for his game then later rejoin as my team?
Yeah, leave the franchise, and then when you rejoin it you will be prompted to choose a team

Just told Dark Rider 10 is cool unless the Giants vs. Cowboys game on NBC is close, then I'd rather wait a little later. I know that may cut it close to the midnight deadline. I also offered to play now before the game starts.
Superstar continues to be AWOL so I'm not sure what to do about my game.
Guess we need a sub for that game too then. Anybody else available to play Matt?

Just had a good game with Dark Rider. I was up 21-0, but he came back and made it 21-21 with over a minute left. I was getting ready for a field goal, but fumbled and he ran it back. Fortunately, it was called back since I was down. Well, that was the call anyway, but the replay showed it was close. I then ran a play, almost ran out time, but saw it and called a time out with 1 second left. Kicked a field goal and won 24-21. I have to quit making bonehead plays, but otherwise it was a good game.

Yeah it was close. I thought I had you after that fumble. Great game! I hope to play you again at some point.

I would just like to note that it is so much more pleasant to play against someone who uses a mic.

What are you, 12? You show immaturity in how you play and you continue to show it after the fact in discussions. If the only thing you took from the issue was that statement which you made, then I don't think it is the league for you.

Geez I'm soo tired of all of this! EveryOne, it seems, is feeding into mailman! I VOTE WE BOOT HIM and be done with this "warning/shit talking Session!" It's all the last 2 pages have been it feels like and the more being said in return and going back and forth the more I WANT TO QUIT because I'm tired of all the bitching.

We have said our peace and the commish warned Him. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IT yet here we are 2 pages later.

I suck at Madden and my record shows it. I have had the shit beat out of me in 3 or my 5 losses and I appreciate a player who understands that by being up by 30 at the half Means CLOCK MANAGEMENT and trying to bleed the clock. Every opponent I have faced has told me something I could try differently! I SINCERELY FEEL LIKE THIS LEAGUE IS MAKING ME BETTER AND I CAN DEFINITELY TELL AND SEE A DIFFERENCE FROM GAME TO GAME. Hell, I have the top QB

I have played online a little more trying to practice and they pull dick moves like passing when they have a lead to pad stats and so forth! So I am glad this league is against that and do not want the league to fold and if we keep this up no one will want to join to replace those we are losing!

Agree with this, let's move on.

On another note,

Lions- 28
Broncos- 21

Back and forth the entire game. I started up 14 to go behind 7 (21-14), then I made some final pushes to win. I threw a pick, giving him the ball on the 26 or so for a short TD. Also, seems people are starting to slow Best down a little.

Suh- 4 Sacks
Jahvid Best- 136 yds. 3 TDs

Yeah, getting back to reality here, we've still got several games this week that haven't been played.

Cardinals vs Ravens (???)
Dolphins vs Giants (???)
Vikings vs Panthers (I'm guessing tanabeo is still MIA)
Patriots vs Steelers (I know Matt said he couldn't get in touch with Superstar)

I'd rather not sim all these games, but don't really want them to drag things out either. I'm open to suggestions. :whistle2:?

cards and ravens sim since there is no word and same with the dolphins and giants
i beleive tanabeo is back i think i saw a post from him on the offical thread but prolly sim as well
matt could play computer i would sub but im going to bed
just my idea

I'm sure Matt's long gone to bed by now. He's on the west coast, but goes to sleep pretty early. I wish I could have played him earlier myself. I just didn't have the time.

Ended up deciding to just sim the remaining games. Hopefully no one is too upset by this, but we need to keep things moving. Here's your summary for Week 8.

Week 8 Summary

Power Rankings
1. Arizona Cardinals
2. St. Louis Rams
3. Denver Broncos
4. Atlanta Falcons
5. New Orleans Saints

Offensive Player of the Week
Chris Johnson - 16 att, 169 yds, 2 TDs

Defensive Player of the Week
Chad Greenway - 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT

I agree with the sentiment, but I feel owners need to be vocal when this type of shit happens. Actually, if you read the posts, until mine, and then yours right after, the only people that were discussing mailman were the parties involved (jza & mailman) and the commish. People were posting about their games, times, etc and no one was commenting on it.

Honestly, I felt it was odd that more people were not commenting on it.

So when is the new deadline?
Honestly, I felt it was odd that more people were not commenting on it.
As you know Yanks, but no one else does, I was down to Yanks 4+ scores, I wasnt coming back, and didnt care to "try new things". I did something that no NFL coach would do, but I felt was expedient in the course of the game: Starting in the 4th quarter, I took a knee. Yanks understood what was happening. He didnt use his timeouts, he didnt try and pause the game to "punish" me for being boring. When he got the ball back, he didnt call plays to advance the ball (he was running all over me that game), he too took a knee.

I saw it as I'm having a terrible game and just want it over. Yanks was a gentleman about it. Had he called timeouts to run up stats/"work on his game", I'd have probably rage quit and gone back to playing with my kids.

So while this is a "learning" league, sometimes I'm just not up for a "lesson". If the game is decided, just let it end. In the words of Stan Lee " 'Nuff said."
So when is the new deadline?
Yeah, sorry. As I was updating last night/this morning/whatever you want to call it (I haven't been to sleep yet, lol), the baby got extremely fussy and wasn't happy unless she was being rocked all night. Everything is updated now. Deadline for week 9 is 1/5. That gives 4 nights to get games played.

While taking a knee could REALLY be considered giving up, the point holds true that the winning team's focus should always be ending the game as quickly as possible. It's the same reason that I think it's moronic that online ranked has an option to decline your opponent's offer to concede the game. If someone is willing to take a loss, and acknowledging that you've bested them, it should be automatic. No one should have the option of refusing just so they can rub your nose in it a little more.

Your game was probably a bit of an extreme case, but it's really nice to hear that it was handled respectfully. Believe me, I wish the rules in the OP only needed to say "always respect your opponent". But what that means to different people and what people can convince themselves is "ok" can be mind blowing. It's great to hear about stuff like this though. This is how you win with some class.

Definitely did not feel that way. It was just one of those games of Madden and I don't blame him for wanting it to end.

Intentionally doing a new post here. I need someone to sub for the Colts this week..if anyone is available right now, I am on. PM or reply here on the off chance anyone sees this and can help. If you can't now but are willing to sub, PM me some times you are available. Thanks in advance!
If you're willing to play me (yet again), I can hop on.
Definitely. Hop on whenever you can and I will be in the lobby.

Falcons - 17
Colts - 3

The deciding factor of this game came at the end of a back and forth first half. Indy came up with a big goal line stop and limited Atlanta to a FG with about a minute left in the half, putting the Falcons up 10-3. However, first play of the Colts drive, Manning threw a big pick down the middle of the field, which Atlanta was able to convert to a TD before halftime, to put the game at 17-3.

Besides the pick though, hostyl1 had some pretty good passing going with Manning, spreading the ball around to the different weapons Indy has. I was fortunate to keep them at bay in the second half and eat just enough clock to get out of town with a close road win.

Thanks again for subbing hostyl1. GG as always.
Closer than the score indicates. Maybe I should have been the Colts all along.
lol, I was thinking similar things. It seemed like you had some really good rapport with Manning and the passing game. They seemed to fit your style pretty well.

Yeah, I was waiting to hear back from my opponent in the other Madden league and I fell asleep around 10-10:30 Eastern time. A sim is fine with me. Superstar has been gone for a while since I was set to play him in the other league and he went MIA. Hope he's okay.

I'll be around most of today to play my week 9 game.

Is Ultimate Matt still around? Also if it's okay with everyone id like to try and take on the Eagles as my secondary until another player comes in?
