CAG MLB 10: The Show League Original Teams Finish 1 game by June 13th
All right, so I did a little wheeling and dealing today, took advantage of Gamestop's 50% trade in bonus, and decided to pick this up. I ended up paying about $20 out of pocket, so I can live with that. Amazingly, the online stock locator did indicate there was a used copy about an hour away from me (stolen I'm guessing), but since I was able to use credit to pay for most of it, wasting the gas didn't seem worth it. Anyway, I'm definitely in for this season though! :)
Did the copy come with a code for the 6 stadiums? Polo Grounds is a blast to play in.

I was holding out for more reviews and a used copy, but I probably will pick it up tomorrow. I'd love to get in on one of the leagues. I think some of you will know me from N8's leagues. Play fair, and get my games in, FWIW.

Also, Josh, this is an idea we can toss around and see if anybody is interested, since a bunch of people are on the waiting list for this league, I could take sign ups for a fantasy league, and give those guys priority (if they're interested in doing fantasy teams, of course). And then if there are any spots left, I could open it up to anybody in this league who wants to play in both leagues. Just a thought as an alternative to expanding this league...which is only going to tack on games for everybody and make the season take longer. I'm never opposed to having a longer season, but more games = more commitment from everybody, and sometimes that leads to trouble. But again, this is your Show man (see what I did there? lol). I'll be happy to just smile and nod on this one. :)
I'd love for their to be one big league, but I hear you, people could not live up to their agreement... anyone know if there is a way to boot people and not have it be a total clusterbang?

You know what, I would definately be interested in that. I really would like to keep it at 16 teams so that we only play 22 games. In a perfect world to me, we would be having a 30 team, 162 game league, but since we all have jobs, school, and lives to live, playing that kind of a league isn't going to happen.

Anyway, If you want to, you can set up a fantasy draft league and take names from my league if they want to switch to fantasy. It won't bother me at all as long as I still get 16 committed players. But I agree that we should make sure everyone gets a chance to join either league before we open it up to people taking spots in both leagues, which is alright as long as they stay committed. Just remember to keep a spot for me ;).

Also, how did you do a lottery last year. I can't think of a way to do one with there being witnesses since otherwise no one will see me doing a drawing.
Also, how did you do a lottery last year. I can't think of a way to do one with there being witnesses since otherwise no one will see me doing a drawing.
Well, last year, I went over the top and made a draft lottery video with a program I've got. It was kinda unnecessary I guess, but I just wanted to do something fun and get everybody excited about playing. There are much simpler ways to do it though. All you really need is a random number generator (which you can easily find online).

Just assign each person in the league a number, and then create a generator with 1-16, and tell it to generate an order for you. I'm pretty sure there are even ones where you can gather email addresses so the results get mailed to every person if there are trust issues. But the 2nd time we did one, I think I just took a screen cap of the assigned numbers and then one of the generated order.

So far, it looks like there are 6 alternates (subtracting joulsey and adding m_d_amore). If they all want to play in a fantasy league, that would be fine. Or like you said, if guys from your league wanted to swap out, that would work too. Honestly, I don't even have to have 16 teams for the fantasy league. I'd be fine with 12 or whatever. I definitely would like to have you in my league though, Josh. Since I'm already in yours, I think it would be good for the leagues and really useful to have both commissioners in both leagues. That way we could maybe help each other out in contacting members as needed and keeping people motivated to play, but we'd still have our specific areas of concentration. Just an idea.

Anyway, what I'll do for now is create a thread for the fantasy league just to see how would be interested in ONLY participating in that league...whether it be guys from the waiting list, or guys already in the league. Then we can see what spots are freed up (if any), and go from there. If you need anything from me or disagree with anything I've said, just let me know. I tend to jump head first into this stuff, haha. :)
I enjoyed your draft video last year :)
Haha, thanks man!

And wow...I just finished my first game, and this game is sex! It is 100 million times better than last year. Last year, hitting just felt terrible. Even when I waited out the count and struck the ball hard, 9 times out of 10, it would be right at one of the CPU players. I couldn't even hit on Veteran for shit.

In playing my first game this year, I thought "here we go..." and put the settings on Veteran with default sliders. I even played as the Yankees against the Pirates to give myself a chance. I ended up with 13 hits, 7 runs, and 3 homers. It felt so much more organic than in 09. It's crazy. I had become so disenchanted with The Show, I was almost scared to play the damn game because I didn't think it could feel that good again. But to me, this game is more like 08 than 09. If online really plays lag free, I'm going to be playing a lot of games this summer! :)

N8, I thought you would have played your first game online. I have played 4 games total and I haven't experienced anything above minor. 2 out of the 4 games ran 99 percent smooth, another one had a couple of 1 seconds lag here and there (like once every couple of innings) and the last one ran smooth 99 percent but had a 3-5 second lag on a foul ball.

You can boot players from a league and replace them with someone else.

I just picked up the game today too, but I was the complete opposite. Hoooly shit, I was terrible. I gave up a couple of runs in the first inning (in both games I played), settled down for most of the game, finally put some runs up myself near the end, then completely blew any hope of a comeback by giving up more runs. I'm gonna need to get in some practice before this league starts.

Nah, I just wanted to start with the basics...see if I could hit at all. And I'm glad I did. I just finished an online game now, and the guy chose the Brewers, so I decided to be fair and chose the Mariners. Not that the M's offense is that impressive anyway, but my luck was terrible. I hit a lot of balls right at people, and my infielders made 3 freaking errors. I ended up losing 7-5.

But the beauty of it, no lag at all...and I was downloading shit on my PC while playing. That NEVER could have happened in year's past (I used to disable the connections on every PC in my home just in the hope of getting a smooth game). To me, this is what 09 should have been...and is really what I expected of the series last year. If they deliver on their promises of fixing the bugs from that list, this will be a perfect baseball game.
I just cant stop playing RTTS to try online yet. My AA Red Sox shortstop is raking baby
Same way, played more RTTS last night. Just deleted my original save and started again. I have to try the online but RTTS is just a lot of fun.
If anyone wants to play some practice games over the weekend shoot me a friend request.
I'll send a friend invite tonight.

I'm on the wait list for the original league, but would be happy to play in a fantasy league instead if that is how this all shakes out. Thanks for organizing, guys.

Well, it doesn't appear as though any other people are going to switch from this league to my league. And I was thinking about opening things up for people to play in both, so if you want to come over to that thread and sign up to make sure you get a spot, I would advise you to do so soon.

Is this league still happening? The lack of activity in this thread is worrying me since I picked this league over the fantasy one. This is why I wanted to be in both

Josh PM'd me last night telling me he's been pretty busy this week, but is hoping to get the league started in the next week or two. Between the two of us, we're hammering out details...I'm sure the league will be kickstarted soon. And I know he picked up Final Fantasy XIII the other day, so I'm sure that's kept him preoccupied as well. Fear not.

I'm still excited about this league. I did pick up FFXIII yesterday and have been playing that nonstop instead of this for the past 24 hours. This is the first time i've ever been playing my ps3 over the 360 and i'm liking it except for the social aspect of not being able to talk to people on my mic.

I just hope the league starts soon.

I am in the same boat. With Heavy Rain, MLB The Show and FFXIII yesterday my PS3 has been getting a workout. Plus GOW III next week my 360 is gonna get abandonment issues lol. FFXIII had all my attention yesterday and I can say it will for awhile. Have to make sure to fit in some MLB. I am still down for this league as well.

You are close. I have gotten FF XIII but I've been working alot of hours lately and have fallen behind on other stuff. I've only hit up about 2 1/2 hours of FF XIII. Hopefully I'll be settled down after tonight.

More info to come.

Just popping my head into say hello.

@onelove I accepted your friend invite, and yes I've also been givin my ps3 a lot of love lately between Heavy Rain, FF13, MLB, and Gow coming up.

But in all fairness I was playing a lot f 360 before between mass effect and bioshock.

Got your PM. I'm still in. However, I must inform you of this, Josh- I received the box for my PS3 today and will be sending it in tomorrow. It says it will take 10-14 business days for me to get it back. So, I won't have the system till then... Man, between that and not having played a game in the Sony MLB series before, I'm going to be finishing dead last.

Guys I hate to do this, but I think it would be best if I don't join the league.

Some things are changing in my life and I can't guarantee that throughout this summer that I will have access to broadband internet. I may have to move from St. Louis back with my parents, and as I've said on my podcast, the only internet they have access to is the Verizon Mi Fi card or satellite that has a 5GB monthly cap.

Things may turn out ok in that either I remain in St. Louis or maybe if I get a job in southern Illinois I would get to live in an area that actually has broadband (Marion or maybe Vienna/Goreville instead of Buncombe) but that isn't going to be known over the next few weeks so instead of committing to the league and being forced to bail, it would be best to give my spot up to someone else.

Sorry again for this everyone, trust me I want to be in the league but I don't want to screw over anyone else because of my economic issues.

Sorry to hear that man. Still add me anyway. We may have a few ball games on the side anyway. Here is hoping that it all works out for you.

Dang. In barley 5 hours only four people have yet to post. I'm liking this. We might be picking teams before noon tomorrow.

I'll probably delay the league from officially starting for a few days to give Matt a chance to get his PS3 back ;). I've got your back buddy.

Thanks, Josh. I hope I don't hold things up. Is this a league that you have to advance to each week, or is it flex scheduling?
Thanks, Josh. I hope I don't hold things up. Is this a league that you have to advance to each week, or is it flex scheduling?
I'm not too sure because in the options it says how many days per series with the options being 1,3, and 5 days. I would hope that it is flex-scheduling.
I'm not too sure because in the options it says how many days per series with the options being 1,3, and 5 days. I would hope that it is flex-scheduling.
Yeah, that's the problem. Last year they advertised flex scheduling, but it was some bastardized version where not every game was available, and only opened up as the entire league progressed past certain weeks. Also, as you noticed, games have a deadline at which they "expire", but you can still play them after the deadline if the Commissioner doesn't resolve them himself.

It's a really convoluted system, and I don't know what (if any) changes they made to it this year. The best thing I can tell you is turn "Auto-Resolve Game" off like I did. At least that way, you're in direct control of how and when the league progresses. As far as one person holding up the entire league though, sadly, anything is possible.
