CAG NFL Season Discussion

The NFC South is a disgrace, though it helped the AFC North look more impressive than it probably was.

All the bears fans I know are hoping for a shanahan/ryan combination (was harbaugh/ryan but obviously he goes to michigan which I think will be awesome for the big ten).
Nope not happening, as Ryan stated this morning, it's either head coach or T.V. He is making 4 million just by staying at home so he isn't going to rush into a coordinator position.

I would like to see Ryan with an actual QB, he made it to what 3 AFC championships with Mark Sanchez or something stupid like that?  He has never had an even serviceable QB.

Hella dumb move for the Niners to fire Harbaugh. Hey Yorks, you're supposed to fire shitty coaches, not good coaches that you have a little trouble getting along with. Find a way to make it work.

Jay Glazer reported early in the season that Harbaugh would be gone even if he won the superbowl. Even with Glazer's reputation I didn't want to believe it but here we are. So the decision to get rid of Harbaugh was made after 3 straight conference title games and a super bowl appearance. Hopefully when we find out the truth about this firing it would be something interesting and not just the Yorks being cheap.

Reminds me of when the Niners got rid of Mariucci. Hopefully it works out better this time.
They wouldn't have moved on from him had he won the Super Bowl. No way the fanbase would stand for that. Anything short of that though it's probably a done deal. I think part of it is Harbaugh wanted this to happen in some form. I also had read Baalke wanted Roman gone and Harbaugh said no.

Jim Harbaugh's son also said things about the organization and how it's run but I don't know if I can believe it.

Man Rex Ryan to Falcons makes so much sense...  That team is removed 2 season ago from being a superbowl favorite, Ryan could take them back to that.

Well to Jay Glazer's credit, his Week 1 report stating Jim was going to be gone even if he won a SB turned out to be true. I agree with him that this parting would have still happened - even if we won this year.

This is similar to how the team cut ties with George Seifert. He was a successful coach for the 49ers but even though George "resigned", he was actually being pushed out by the FO. Jim is not leaving the team on his own will. The FO is pushing Jim out. They can't work with him. Call it childish or call it insane. But the point is at least in their eyes, the relationship is toast.

It's pretty obvious who the sources were for Jay Glazer. Either it was Jed York (owner) or Trent Baalke (GM). Ostensibly, it could have been Paarag Mathe (President). But the point was that these leaks were sent out before the season even began with the intention to undermine Jim's status with the team. Guys in these high level positions have huge egos and it boils down to power and want. Ironically, these leaks to undermine Jim ended up hurting the team this year and provided a gigantic distraction. The FO deserves a lot of blame for that and I'm personally upset as to how it was handled.

As a local, I recall a radio interview last off-season when Jed publicly acknowledged that, "Jim will do some things that can rub people off the wrong way." Jim isn't without fault. I don't doubt that he probably had some immaturity issues but I'm more sympathetic with Jim's camp since it's obvious he'd have stayed if he could. The bottom line was he sought an extension on two separate occasions and was denied in each instance. It's disappointing that these guys can't get past their issues together.

And it's exactly why he is heading back to the college game... I mean these guys see how political the NFL game can be, but if you can get with a College power, you get complete control over the program, and now even be paid like a pro coach. It's why Saban will never leave Alabama, and now I can guarantee Harbaugh won't leave Michigan

Everyone forgot that the Chargers almost lost in their playoff clinching game last year against an entire second team Chiefs team.

And the Chiefs finish the season without throwing a single touchdown to a wide receiver. Which seemingly strengthens the argument us here in KC have argued for a while now: we need better WRs.
Have you looked at Alex Smith's stats? He doesn't throw the ball to anyone who is beyond ten yards. You need a better QB.

As a Broncos fan I can say both... He never throws down field because literally there is no one to throw to... his weapons are charles and Kelce, and both play positions that don't go deep often.

A lot of people here in Denver are saying Ryan should be brought in as a consultant for the playoffs to scheme for the patriots... I would love that however I feel it wouldn't happen.

I'd like to see what Ryan could do with the 49ers defensive talent.
I hope they can keep Fangio as the DC. Even with all the injuries and suspensions the defense was solid.

Even if winning the SB would have saved Harbaugh's job, it's a crazy way to run an organization. Baalke definetly wanted Roman gone. Did you see when Baalke's daughter posted something like "Greg Roman should leave. The 49ers don't want you." See was spilling out dinner table conversations on twitter. So that could have been the main problem, the fight over Roman.

I saw an edited version of the son's supposed post on ninernation.com but nothing there was really insightful. He does reference the Cowboys and Jimmy Johnson but in that story Jimmy was shitting all over the owner and forced Jerry Jones to fire him. So yeah, don't know where to go with this one if it's even true.

I agree with this, especially the last part.

Well there hasn't been any reporting on this that I can recall but one theory that's been floating out there is that the FO wanted Jim to fire Greg Roman the OC. Jim's very loyal to his players and coaching staff - almost to a fault. The theory is that Jim was never ok with letting Roman go despite the FO's impression of the playcalling.

Jed and Trent just concluded their presser about Jim's departure. Not much was revealed. They phrased it as a number, "of philosophical differences." Over the past few years, the 49ers red zone offense has been below average. The Greg Roman issue could have been one of those philosophical differences.

I'll be really interested in who they hire next. If they promote within, Fangio deserves the shot. If they go outside, they should bring an offensive mind to help develop Colin and improve their red zone offense. Adam Gase, OC of the Broncos, is being reported to be on their short list of top candidates. The insidious part of me is curious to see this blow up in their faces and have all of their top candidates accept jobs with other teams leaving them with nobody good left.

Let's be honest, Greg Roman is not a great offensive mind. He totally abandoned the run in playoff games they had big leads in. Puzzling play caller.

I'm fine with him being gone.

But I still don't beleife they let Jim walk after a Super Bowl win.

fuck michigan, fuck michigan hard.  Cheap ploy to sell tickets and try to drum up a win over my illini today

Ok not really, but I bet they do get quite a few more seats sold for the basketball game today than they would have with most of the students gone for break and I don't appreciate it.

To hell with it now I stand by the original statement. fuck Michigan so hard and fuck Harbaugh. Lousy increasing ticket sales, getting a good crowd for what should have been an empty stadium.

The level of stupid shit on the part of the NFL just keeps piling on... Suh was clearly trying to injure Aaron Rodgers and that kind of shit has no place in the NFL.

Wild card picks:

Cardinals Vs. Panthers
Steelers Vs. Ravens
Colts Vs. Bengals
Cowboys Vs. Lions (For the dirty shit Suh pulled I hope they get blown out)

Panthers, Steelers, Colts, Cowboys.

But I'd like the Ravens to win so they can face the Patriots and for the Cowboys to lose.

Cardinals have the historically worst playoff offense ever.

And yet, they could have won the game if their special teams were better.

EDIT: While I still miss Boldin, I am so, so happy we have Elvis Dumervil.

I'm glad the Steelers lost, but I'm kind of disappointed by that holding call that negated the touchdown, that looked like a noncall to me. I guess the ref had a better angle than me. It would have made the last 5 minutes a lot more interesting.

Hopefully they can beat the Patriots next week, that would be awesome.

Perfect ending for Broncos fans! Was worried at the Steelers chances against Denver with Leveon Bell back... Not to mention Baltimore is notorious for play well in fox borough. Hoping for Cincy win tomorrow to get revenge from the Monday night game

Right there with you. So happy with the outcome of the game.

People at BW3 kept trying to get management to change the audio over to the UFC fights but myself and the large Steelers contingent in the place kept that from happening.

So apparently now the NFL is telling us that intentionally trying to injure another player (and having an extensive prior record of doing so) is no big deal but over disciplining your child is worth losing 15 games, while outright intentionally knocking your wife out is somewhere in the middle. Just all around horseshit, top to bottom. The NFL is a complete fucking joke.

Suh caught a break because after 32 games(including the preseason) your repeat offender tag goes away. Suh literally just lost his repeat offender tag.

I do agree that its all bullshit. Peterson didn't kiss the ring and that's why he got suspended as long as he did. Players need to start asserting their leverage and start playing hardball with the owners.

Suh is a dirty piece of shit, but he's super intelligent. I fully believe he knew that the 32 games had just expired

The Peterson thing just reeks of behind the scene politics. Particularly when you hear the recording that he was outright told if he made a plea deal his suspension would be over in 2 games. I'm no fan of Peterson, even as a Vikings fan, but he got screwed royally and I wouldn't blame him at all if he decided to just walk and retire.

If/when the Cowboys lose this game it is going to be because the play calling has been horrible. The lack of commitment to the running game is appalling and making this team play like the same old Cowboys.

Luckily the NFL makes more money if the Cowboys win. That was almost as bad as when Big Ben scored that touchdown in the Super Bowl against the Seahawks from about 7 yards out.

Stafford is a fucknut, but I hope he can throw a bomb to Megatron here.

Under their current deal, the Rams can end their 30-year lease a decade early because they have not reached an agreement with St. Louis officials on improvements to the stadium. The sides remain about $575 million apart. St. Louis is expected to offer the team a new proposal by month's end.
I don't get what you think he did wrong? As far as I can tell he hasn't broken any agreement. I'm not a Rams fan though so I don't know the ins and outs.

He scheduled two regular season home games in London (only had one in London), broke ground for his new LA stadium before the end of the 2014 season, announced it before the end of the season and negotiated in bad faith.

Looking forward to having the Rams back in LA. St Louis is best to just let them go and rent another team with a sweetheart stadium deal down the line again.

Patriots, Panthers, Packers, Colts.

Last week 3-1

Ravens looking good early but I got to stick with my pick before the game started.
