CAG/PS3 Red Faction: Guerrilla Night [Thursdays @ 10pm EST]
Lots of fun last night.
We should play more often.
The new missions were crazy.
Yes to all three statements.

Also, looks like the BC2 patch may have removed the destroy the fence = destroy the building glitch on that one map. (You would think after 30+ hours of the game I would know even one map name, but I have no clue of any of them )

RFG one year anniversary game night! Any specific matchups people want to do tonight?
screw the random guy. what about MEEE :D:D:D i could take pictures with it in strange places...no wait....nvm ill keep that to myself. want my addy metaly?
That would definitely make it easier to mail you one.

I'm up for WKC more often. That was fun, but more then enough Vespids.

I rarely refuse game invites if I have the actual game.

Anniversary night bumpos!

I think at least one of you guys will appreciate this...

When we were discussing Blur vs. Split/Seconds last night, I was reminded of a recent Penny Arcade post on the subject:

Split/Second - I will honor them by maintaining the slash - is an incredibly solid product. You can play the demo as many times as I did, which (between you and me) could well be described as a fuck-ton, and emerge from it with a sense that you have a firm handle on its bombast and can therefore skip the final release. It will be more of this, you might say to yourself. You'd be wrong; I certainly was.

Would you be surprised to learn that the demo map might be the least ridiculous one on offer? Or that its got alternate gameplay modes that split the difference between balls-out racing and bullet-hell shmups? They maintain that demo polish throughout the experience with frankly amazing UI work, amazing car design, and everything refined down into an infinitely suckable lozenge.

Alright, the joy portion of the presentation is over. I am as angry as I could possibly be at Blur, as a videogame, and at its black womb Bizarre Creations.

The last time I saw a product this unstable was with Rainbow Six: Raven Shield and Pandora Tomorrow - their server browsers (remember those?) would crash one-hundred percent of the time if populated with more than a certain number of hosts. Before that it was Tribes 2, a noble game, but delivered in such ruins that (as I have said) they once released a patch that removed the previous patch.

Once we'd obtained sufficient level to take part in Blur's Team Racing modes, things went desperately awry. Blur might crash three times in an hour, hard locks that necessitate manual shutdown. I have often said that, more often than not, fond wishes for improvement between the "beta" phase and the retail shelf are misspent. This isn't something that happens a statistically significant percentage of the time. This, however, is something new: a retail release that appends to its previously smooth contours row upon row of toxic barbs.

I've always felt like I understood something about Bizarre Creations games, that their thesis was one with which I was perhaps uniquely resonant: the joy of a perfect run, pegged somewhere between mastery and the Zen moment. There's definitely something to like about Blur, and we put up with it for a few nights. In an effort to wring some juice out of my purchase I plowed myself into the ordinary, reliable part of the game, the single player, finding it ordinary and reliable - something had happened. Some quality previously held by Blur had evaporated, and like Modern Warfare 2, the urge to continue moving my hands on the controller in the interim period between these betrayals was gone. I'm incredibly ashamed to have recommended it.

(CW)TB out.
Who's up for BC2 tonight?
Anyone... Anyone...
Don't ask silly questions. Just send me a squad invite around 10EST
I'll get back into BC2... eventually. Having way too much fun making kick-ass tracks for MNR. ;)
Ya'know sometimes I wish the edit modes of games like MNR and LBP had keyboard and mouse support.

Would make some of the stuff easier.
Metaly: will you be around tonight? If so, are you up for some Splinter Cell?
I think I'll be around. Splitta Cell!!! I expect you to do the play-by-play if we're on at the same time as that RF Armageddon reveal, though.

The Red Faction Twitter feed is asking folks what they hope to see during tonight's big reveal. If you haven't sent them your wishlist yet now is the time to do it! ;)

Also, they say that tonight's trailer is 100% in-game footage!

I can definitely do that. I was hoping you wouldn't mind if we paused at 12:15 so I could watch it!

What's a good time for you?

Two things:

1. I was confused by the bumping of the other Red Faction thread.
2. There is another BC2 patch, 1.03 was yesterday, 1.04 is today, its 451 megs.

I'll probably be on around the usual time, or maybe a little later since I'm really fighting the urge to go out and get Tetris. Also I need to write up my RFA wishlist! :whee:

I've actually been told that I'm going out tonight. I was promised stiff drinks and loose women (or was that loose drinks and stiff women?), so I agreed to go. Sorry for the late change of plans! Maybe one night next week instead?

I was thinking Bioshock, with the plasmids in his hand, but that works too...

I wonder how the multiplayer will be handled? Since it looks to be all underground? :whistle2:k I guess there's no more traversing archways in the sky through glitching and elite balancing skills...

I am not happy. I love the rampant playground of destruction of RFG both online and singleplayer. Underground crap sounds like a claustrophobic tunnel shooter to me. Say it ain't so! Also no EDF? It's not RF without the EDF!

Yeah as I said last night, "Aliens? Really?". I will give the game the benefit of the doubt.

Also prepare for the RF version of horde:
Finally, THQ says that their game will include a new extermination mode that has four players teaming up online to take on never ending tides of attackers.

every game has Horde mode now

and im also worried about this aliens business and caves, like zen  hope thats just one level and that the mp is more open. otherwise = fail
So they threw some survival horror into it? Pass.
Kinda early to tell what has been thrown in or thrown out. I'm gonna reserve judgement until I see more than a 30 second trailer.

I remember reading that it takes place on the surface at some parts too, so hopefully its not *entirely* underground. Also, I enjoyed Dead Space quite a bit, so I wouldn't mind them sprinkling a bit of that type of stuff into RF:A. Hopefully the multiplayer maps have a nice variety of locations instead of all being predominately underground. Some sort of 'humans vs. whatever-these-scary-things-are-called' could potentially be fun. Like you guys have said, I'm cautiously optimistic and look forward to hearing and seeing more about it.

It's a little premature to be up in arms about the multiplayer since they didn't show any of it in the trailer. I could definitely see the multiplayer being pretty different from the campaign, with lots of outdoor maps and maybe even the EDF thrown in for kicks. (I need my EDF Heavy!)

Here's stuff I took away from the trailer after watching it a few more times:

- Even if most of the game takes place underground, much of it will at least be in large, elaborate caverns with some manmade structures around. That alleviated any fears I had about it being in corridors like what I played of the first RF.

- Vehicles are back

- Lava and possibly other environmental hazards

- There are outdoor areas:

The tower behind him explodes and collapses shortly afterward, so destruction is also definitely back in full force.

- There's a new energy pulse weapon that reminded me of the chargeable energy rifle in Lost Planet. The website also shows Darius holding what looks like a machine pistol or some kind of SMG.

- Smaller, powered armor style mech suits like Lost Planet or Starship Troopers. (Drop pods?!!?)

- Looks like the campaign will finally have a reconstructor in the form of the nano forge gauntlet. The website says it also provides "super-human" abilities including tremor and rhino powers, but that also makes me think of Infamous or Crackdown. Regardless of whether the gauntlet ends up being sort of an all-in-one backpack in the campaign, I hope they still use actual backpacks in multiplayer since they were a nice visual cue.

And most importantly, sledgehammers are back!!

wow so the bfbc2 updates were almost a gig...really? should i just trade this in, i mean I already platted it and it seems you guys are done with it also? i don't want to download a gig of patches just to find it still laggy as hell. seems they tried to get that onslaught mode on everyone's ps3?

I still play BFBC2. I'm addicted to watching my sniper shots drop perfectly into people's heads.

I hate that its so different then almost every other shooter in that way. Its certainly a valid way to work the sniper rifles but I just don't have the patience to learn.
oh yeah n the air raid siren only goes twice, so more conquest :)
they fixed the commie son of a whore siren too!?! i hate that i cannot experience such wonders in gaming technology!

Picked up Tetris Party and the sole remaining copy of Dragon Quest V
\\:D/\\:D/\\:D/\\:D/\\:D/\\:D/\\:D/
at Toys R Us. Let me know when you're ready for the pain, Randy. And Mr. B. Pretty sure you have to get this now.

Who the fuck are you?
It's a little premature...
It's a lot premature. We've got 9+ more months of details to absorb before we all decide we're disappointed. Thanks for picking the trailer apart, metaly...I watched it 3-4 times already but still didn't notice everything you commented on.

I've been getting the pain already. I probably win 2 out of every 10 online matches. I played with Sarah over the weekend and I won exactly ZERO matches against her. I have been greatly humbled by Tetris this week.

But, yeah...let's play! What's your friend code?
pene
I made some penne arrabiatta for lunch today. It was amazing.

I was gonna mention something about pene being spanish for penis, but I like randy's interpretation better... although now that I got the connection... I may not want to eat penne pasta anymore. :/

I also like how friendly we are to newcomers in this thread... We probably would have 3-5 new people playing with us if it weren't for us scaring them away.

And... @randy, you don't want to be my facebook friend? I was expecting a friend invite after the game Thursday but got nothing.
Although, to be fair, all I've ever done on there was entered a few contests (I think that's why I like Playstation... :/) , got that free castle crasher DLC code forever ago (even though I don't own the game), and approved people I never talked to in school as friends.

I'm 3052 1273 0860, and so far I've also gotten my share of humbling... I keep getting matched with the same asshole online who does t-spin doubles the entire time and I can't keep up. :bomb: I'm really out of practice.

So are we playing this or Splinter Cell tomorrow? ;)

Pene also != penne in Italian... That's probably is a source of endless amusement for Italian waiters because all Americans say "pene."
