CAG PS3 Unreal Tournament 3 Night [On Indefinite Hold]

I would've joined last CAG Night had there not of been the required DLC. Hopefully the patch allows users to download and install maps they don't have when connecting to a server. Maybe we can do a CAGs vs. bots thing (I can play Deathmatch against bots).

hopefully it does, but the extra stuff is staying for the main ut3 night. it might be possible for non extra content nights if there's interest but I most likely won't organize that at all.

CAGs/bots occurs for Warfare, since we don't ever know if we'll have enough people to have a good game, and sometimes an open server on Warfare is a little chaotic. That, and it makes for some excellent co-op. Otherwise, don't hold your breath, I don't anticipate there ever being a DM game with bots.

But come, anyway. UT3 is shitloads of fun.

I'll second what I just said... I'll be surprised if that ever really happens. The additional DM maps are awesome and well worth the 10 minute, 1-time hassle of installing them. Especially since half of them come from the Custom Packs (Volume 1 and 2). Excluding Bombing Run, there isn't really a whole lot of stuff to install. Do like 5 a day and you'll be done in 4 or 5 days, and it'll be well worth it.

One last thing to everyone considering joining us for UT3 night: Please for the love of G-d consider a headset. No communication = no fun. Ok, less fun.
You guys all sound fucking insane... I'm in.
that's the spirit!

edit: to what matt said above. I actually spend time looking at most maps and read reviews before I make people download them. In fact it's probably at least a 2:1 ratio of my time to yours of effort put in.

yes WELL worth it, that maps are great. people swear its so hard to do. just do it already. time spent here typing you could have done 10 of em. i did every single map listed in like 20min. geez. then after a few minutes of simple installs youll be playing some of the best mp around.

I'm glad that downloading from the host is gone. Do you have any idea how long it would take to download files from me when I only have about a 160kb upload rate? It'd take minutes "about 2-3" per person to get a map from me. And it would make everyone else's game experience go to shit due to all the upload being given to someone instead of to the game. Downloading the maps isn't even that big a hassle in all honesty either. Do five a day and you'll be done by next week. Community Bonus Packs are like 50% of the DLC.

Though I do host Unreal Tournament 3 servers sometimes without the custom maps as those are always populated when I leave them open.

The main reason they are always public is because we only have about 3v3 fights and we need to fill them up. If we had a full CAG roster we could finally close them off and make it completely private.
You guys are really underestimating my laziness. Putting the disk in is considered too much effort on my end:lol:
Are you a real CAG? If you are then it means you spend a decent amount of time looking for cheap games that are worth your time, loopholes to get games for cheaper than they should be, and whatever else people do to avoid the dreaded MSRP.

Well, spend maybe 1/4 of the time you do on the site, looking for cheap games, and invest it in putting some maps on your PS3 and you'll have all the fun you can handle out of this game. Seriously :bouncy:

yes, check the op. download and install everything. you have all week so do a few a day. or just do all at once like i did, easier.

Anything I need to know or do before I join you guys on Monday? ;)
Install as much as you can from the OP. Maybe play some random bot matches or single player to get a feel for it (don't know how much UT you've played over the years) and to learn the maps some.

If you haven't played before and want to play some before Monday, I'd be down for playing some later this week, Thursday night might be best?

Too many people are leaving on monday for a good bombing run. Let's just do capture the flag and leave it open so others can join. I'd recommend community map bonus packs 1 and 2, haco, dreary3, and facing worlds II. I'd also get the stuff that's on Playstation store for UT3 as that adds a few maps too and isn't too big.

if by facing worlds II you mean safeguard2 :D at least those were the 3 ctf maps that we were playing from before.

No, we haven't played Facing Worlds II online yet. It's the one that takes place in the space station. It looks the same but removes some of the effectiveness of sniper fire as it's more suited towards a 5v5 game or even less.
I'd recommend that we never play Facing Worlds again. Seriously, does anyone but Paco have fun on that freakin' map?
I... tolerate it. It was more fun for Bombing Run, but generally speaking I'm kind of tired of it. It's been around since UT99, so it just feels a bit overdone.

On a somewhat related note... I've always hoped that there would be ports or remakes of some of the UT3/4k maps, but with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions I've never seen any. Are they out there?

I can do a search in a week or two, are there any in particular?

Facing Worlds is my anger outlet for Team Fortress 2. I sucked horrribly as a sniper on that game thanks to no mouse support and always getting killed by everything. So now I take it out on UT3 with a vengence. Plus there's the keep away aspect where it's the only map where someone can really hide from someone creating some of the most frustrating shenanigans in the game. There's something about the map that calls out to me. Though the only map I really hate is that one that takes forever to reach the map. What's that called again? I also hate INstagib.
I can do a search in a week or two, are there any in particular?
Hmm. It's been so long there's no way I could remember the names, short of installing the old game and playing a bit. If you find anything decent, though, LMK and it might jog my memory!

i think what hone said before is that before anyone downloads a brand new map, you all need to download the unrequired maps that are already on the list. after that, we can decide on new maps.

Maybe we shouldn't roll out any new maps until after the Titan pack gets stale? It certainly seems like we're going to pickup some new players with it...this will at least give them a few weeks/months to catch up on "required" downloads.

i imagine the patch will only keep the new players for a couple of weeks max. the faster some of them get the trophies, the sooner they will stop playing. hopefully well get a few regulars...but i know all of them wont stick around for more than trophies.

The cold action of Unreal Tournament and the overall harshness of it tends to turn most people off. The fact that people play this completely different then call of duty or Halo tends to make people go "This is crap! It's too simple" or whatever.

Most definitely. I had an extra copy from a friend that he wanted to get rid of so put on goozex and it was like 140 in line and the line wasn't really moving. Soon as he found out trophies coming he wanted it back. Current goozex line is like 80 and it looks like it's dropping. It's all about the trophies sadly.
simple!? dm fps is far from simple :|
That's because they made it look simple. They never tell you how to wall jump, how to shoot dodge, how to shoot dodge and jump off a wall, that the translocator can be hit with an impact hammer to go far far away or any of the other various strategies or the two trigger hits like shock ball, shock cannon.
two trigger?
You know with the shock rifle if you do the alternate fire first then hit it with the primary fire, it creates a sort of black hole effect that instakills people in that vicinity. It's hard to do though.

We're gonna use standard maps this time for the new people who may not have gotten the new stuff. I talked to two of the new people joining and it seems only the PSN store stuff was downloaded.
it seems only the PSN store stuff was downloaded.
ya because those are the only maps they dont have to do any work for :p

true. In the unreal mod browser with the Thursday Update I hope the community bonus packs are a part of the bit that are approved by Epic.

You were right Paco, my ass got handed tonight, but I still had a lots of fun... I'll definitely show up in future UT3 nights for sure, and try to get better at the same time... ;)
