CAG Socom Thread-SONY SHUTTING DOWN SERVERS AUGUST 31 for S1-CA Tue&Sun10pmEST

I'm in classic view most of the time, unless I'm watching around a corner. Actually I've been using the over-the-shoulder view more often because I've been trying to stick closer to walls, but still most of the time I'm in classic. OTS just feels claustrophobic.

Is there a control setting to switch the controls back to how they were before a couple patches ago? (dpad controls camera side/NVG) I tried using the customize layout feature but it seems like those are the only things you can't move around. I almost never lean so I don't mind having that on the motion sensor.

I've been on classic view since they changed the way the "switch view" worked (it used to be just a quick d-pad press instead of the x-button hold for those that don't remember). Now to look around corners I just use the lean buttons and it seems to be working ok for me. I also changed my knife to the circle button and blanked out R3 - I would knife the air too many times during furious fire fights.

I will try to be on tonight, hopefully...

I'm hoping to make tonight guys. It just seems every game night something comes up to keep me from getting some much-needed SOCOM action. I swear, I'm probably the lowest ranked guy in the CAG clan at this point :D

same here. Sundays it's usally because I'm watching tv, I eep forgeting I have DVR and can just record them, lol.

I think I need to remap some controls, too. That knife on L3 results in some accidental team kills. And reload on R3 makes me reload in the middle of the aim, especially with the sniper rifle. Drove me nuts last game. Swept the reticle over the guy's head and reload.
Before children and wakeboarding I used to play to a 1 handicap. Most rounds were in the mid to low 70's. I had several opportunities but could never card a round in the 60's. I always seemed to choke on the last hole or two. I would play between 27-36 holes a day with my first 18 in before 8am. Having a teacher's schedule in the summer does have it's perks.

What is the classic view? The only view that I can use is the one that is over the right shoulder.
Thats pretty insane. You should have tried Q school man. I guess you can always hold out hope for the Senior Tour;)

I dont think that view is the classic view. I believe the only way to get it is to enable it in the options.

As far as the controls, I made them as close to the pre-patch controls as possible. Go to your controller settings, choose Six Shooter. Then you can customize that to get what you need. That is the closest I can come to the original default controls. I have X as run, R2 is taunt and Change fire rate. Im gonna look into changing my knife button now that Condor mentioned it.

Yeah the switch view is what made me change my controls. It simply takes too long to hold down X to switch shoulders. Im gonna try the Classic View for a week or so. Ive noticed I usually only get kills if my gun is on the same shoulder as the enemy, so Im hoping classic view will just let me kill at will.:)

Also dont forget to accept your promotion. Then we can finally do some spring cleaning on the clan. Also I was looking @ clans on Socom.com and one of them had 10 officers with 27 members. So after we delete some peeps and recruit some new guys we will get more credits. Eventually everyone who plays will be an officer!

Dont sell yourself short. There are like 35 people under you in the clan. Of course the stat reset has something to do with that.
same here. Sundays it's usally because I'm watching tv, I eep forgeting I have DVR and can just record them, lol.
Set that DVR! Sunday night is the best TV time. Eastbound and Down keeps getting better and better!

I think im using whatever the default is, which is why the first thing i do whenever playing killzone 2 is throw a grenade when i hit R2 to run lol.
I guess I'm using classic view, I only that and keep hitting up on the dpad to get to the scope.
I never have the problem hitting the sticks to knife/reload, I have a problem with killzone in that you have to hold the left one down to run, and I can't keep it down for some reason, thats the game I wish had custom controls.
I'll probably be signed on and in the game before 10, but I won't be at my ps3 until I'm done watching NCIS with my dad.

Totally slipped my mind tonight, busy with school and such. I know I haven't been too active since I joined, but I will definitely be there sunday and probably practicing during the week.

Got called away by some Korean hotpot. Are you guys still trying to get a game started or is PSN down or what? I'll probably get on in a bit either way, if only to switch my controls around.

Great games guys. Tonight I finally felt like I had some sort of "progress". Now, if only my rank would go up. Look forward to another CAG night as always.

Why y'all runnin'!?

Actually I was just testing out different control layouts, which all sucked so I switched back to frogman. I tried putting melee/reload elsewhere but somehow always ended up with something else inconvenient on the sticks. Frustrating.

I did check out the camera settings and you're right about the classic cam being totally different, smog. I played a few games in OTS and I think I'll be sticking with that.

Yeah your making "progress" if that means going 6-0-0 in a round (and 5&0 in a game, but we shall never speak of that again ;)) . I on the other hand played terrible.

Man, there were a few rounds we easily should have won but messed it up. That demo round, man if Smog and I don't get greedy by using the knife we win that round no problem.

I wanted that escort extract so damn bad, I even risked losing by letting the guy kill me.

I just realized I have never tried the OTS view, I guess I'll give it a shot tonight if people are on.

Classic camera is definitely the way to go. I also which you could unmap/remap buttons custom, because some things I never use (*cough* taunt *cough* whereas other things could be put in better places (reload/knife).

I really need to get back into socom with you guys, but school and all that good stuff is keeping me busy. I have a hard time convincing myself to play without cags because its not nearly as much fun.

Sorry I missed it last night. I got up at 4am yesterday to take my family to the airport and pretty much passed out at around 8pm. I'll sign on today to accept that promotion smog.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting to mention, if I'm still listed in the clan, I can be removed since I no longer have the game. I wish I could have kept it, but struggling financially right now and can't keep as many games as I use to.

Aww man TMK we can save your spot for moral support!

But yeah the Classic Cam is way different. Its gonna take some getting used to.

You CAN map custom buttons BlueScrote, the only ones that cant be changed are X and maybe one more.

Great Games last night. We totally should have had that bomb and now I realize why no one wanted to kill that final guy on Crossroads extract.

Highlight of the night (Maybe top 5 best socom moments to date) MisterBee "I SPAWNED WITH THEM"!!!! and then we hear all the bullet sounds... I was laughing about that just ten minutes ago

I've been switching between Classic and Over the Shoulder. In the end, I stuck with OTS. I just like the increased magnification and wider one sided view versus the evenly distributed view of classic. I don't mind switching with x. Though my only gripe is when I'm next to a wall I can jump over, I usually end up jumping over trying to only switch shoulders.

Yes, that was just awesome......I felt like we were in some war or even horror movie or something. I got chills :cold:

Yeah, shortly after most of that other team disconnected and I was head to head with my pistol against the one remaining enemy I got disconnected from PSN and could not reconnect at all so I called it a night for the PS3  That really sucked because I didn't even get a chance to finish a single game much less even get a single kill. I was really looking forward to playing last night :hot:. On a brighter note, I was able to finish RE5 last night because of it :D

Interesting...I used to use the right/left D-pad directions to change from left/right hand over the shoulder views which really comes in handy when going around corners. I really hate that after the update the made the d-pad right/left now do the lean that I much preferred on the sixaxis control. I was able to get the sixaxis control back but I couldn't figure out how to get the right/left hand view mapped back to my d-pad.

The cool thing about the game where everyone got kicked is that I was the last one left at the end...so I got MVP. I was very proud.

I'm back in MN and dying for some Socom. After I spend some time with the family and get everyone in bed I hope to be on for some relearning.:D

Aww man and I was gonna do some homework tonight....Oh well they call it Socrack for a reason
So you neglect all real world responsibilities and just play the game

Welcome back man! Hope you had a great vacay.

Man I wish this game had a recording system. That was the most amazing thing I've seen playing this game Smog. The dead teammates chatter was fun during that round. That was easily the highlight of a mostly disappointing night playwise.

Yeah at least something good happened last night. It was worth it to hear our random teammates praise after the round.

Ill be on late night tonight. Mdamore whats your status?

Hopefully you get it tomorrow so this thread isnt so dead all the time.

Im hopping on now if anyone wants to play.

Oh yeah thanks for accepting that promotion Condor. I deleted some people from the clan so if anyone wants to invite a friend or random feel free.

its in connecticut so once it get s in mass ill go to it so i can play for the weekend

Just don't knife the poor delivery driver.

I've been trying out the Six Shooter preset. It's feeling pretty good, and I like the fact that there's a manual enable button for motion controls (I use it for ducking) and that the OTS switch is set to L3 (much faster). I thought run set to x would be horrible, but it actually works out fine since I can't strafe while running anyway. Also starts to feel like GTA4, which so happens to be 3rd person as well.

Good news is that knife is set to one of the buttons instead of being coupled with an analog.

Interesting...I think I may just try that out.
Also, I hope to get online tonight.....sorry for my absence guys but the wife has been "using" the PS3 TV.

Now you all can see my true talent at the game, only I can take down a guy carrying the auto shotgun with a simple commando pistol ;).

Back up to a 2 rating, I don't think it will get any higher than that, but I'm happy with that. I was hoping I was closer to rank 6 than I am, need about 30 more wins and 40 more matches played, but it will come, I don't plan on quitting the game any time soon :).

I cannot snipe, its too nerve racking sitting there, knowing if your seen your dead or if you miss your dead, but man, if you pull it off its the best kind of kill you can get.

I hear you, that's why I do all my sniping in unranked mode till I get used to it. I'm still working on it though. I think I've only gotten like 2 clean snipe kills so far.

I'm in NYC this weekend so looks like no Socom for me till Sunday night :(

I can barely snipe anything on the PC and probably even less with a controller, but you're right about it being and incredibly satisfying kill. Plus the L96A in BF2 made the best sound in the world. If all the rifles in SOCOM sounded like that, that's all I'd use.

You may wanna try that L69A rifle in Socom it sounds pretty bad ass too. Nothing beats the sound of the silenced SASR putting a bullet in some dude though. You guys are right, snipe kills are the most satisfying.

Option what button enables your motion sensor?

Damn condor get back soon! We havent had the whole crew on in almost a month now

Ill be on tonight of course.

And to increase you Confrontation rating, play the same game mode for like an hour. It will shoot right uyp if you do okay.

I had the hardest time sniping myself since there is no way to steady your aim (i.e. hold your breath) and the cross-hairs just jump all over the place. Combine that with the looseness of the DS3 analog sticks and forget it (BTW, that reminds me I still need to try playing with my deadzone and sensitivity settings). Well, one day I decided to slap an ACOG scope on the sniper rifles instead of the 12x scope. Since you're not zoomed in as far the small idle movements of your character affect your cross-hair accuracy far less. Yeah, you don't get nearly the distance but you're much more likely to be able to hit someone and most times you don't really need the 12x scope anyway. I was able to get 3 kills in one round the last time I used the sniper scope with an ACOG. And yes, using that silenced Merc sniper rifle is just awesome to get kills with.
