CAG Socom Thread-SONY SHUTTING DOWN SERVERS AUGUST 31 for S1-CA Tue&Sun10pmEST
That made my night, I lol'd.

Trying to fall asleep as I have a semi-early start tomorrow. Enjoyed the games tonight, hope nobody takes me too seriously. Usually whenever I face off against d-truk I end up getting my ass handed to me at worst and him barely surviving one of my fire fights at best while I noob it up. Usually in respawn he kicks my ass, I have a tough time killing him.

Anyway, good games, good night.
I could not figure out how you were behind me 30 seconds after the rounds started.

I had a horrible night.

Quote:
If we're going to face each other, we're going to have to separate Mad and D-truk.

I was just calling it like it is.

Double xp does me no good. All I am going to be is a rank 25 bullet sponge with a level 1 mod on my gun. I need double points for my weapon. At 2 kills a game it is going to take me forever. (especially since one of the two is usually a lucky grenade)
Using me as a test subject is not allowed!
Hahaha. I don't recall having done that yet. A bullet sponge in general, maybe. Just playin'
I could not figure out how you were behind me 30 seconds after the rounds started.

Nah, it's all good. I had a pretty terrible night too, especially when we had the smaller group against that one doucher clan that kept pe4'ing us (although everyone seems to be doing that now).

Freakin' Mad, ppowers and I kept gettin' bumrushed by you every round and I got lucky with a mine and got one of you while you rushed...and then my internet cuts out. I'm squaring that away today so hopefully it'll be fixed up by the end of the week..

Being at higher ranks is now making me want to play Socom 4 less and less. It's now less skill and more 'see how cheap you can be' status when I'm playin' some matches. I understand camping, I understand strategy, but suicide pe4'in and nade spamming is getting really old. I can just put CoD back in for that.

One last thing. Found out you can accidentally/purposely put pe4 on someone. Quarterson took a bunch of my pe4 stuck to him on accident by me last night. Maybe that'd be a really cheap strategy to use...

The pe4 at the beginning of matches is terrible. that map we were playing with those guys i was getting hit with it before i could get up the stairs right by our spawn. They were also spamming concussions that killed me several times.

It was just terrible. It really pissed me off, I shouldve shut the game off 30 minutes before I did, ruined my night.

For me, the small maps, like that specific map, are not for me, especially when its the first/second time seeing the map. Not knowing where stuff is coming from and not being able to hip fire well are doom for me.

It just so happened that I kept finding ppowers first usually since you operate on the left of your spawn and he was trying to be sneaky on the right. Really the window to be sneaky is very short so you have to be where you want to be ahead of schedule so you can sneak at a relatively decent pace.
I could not figure out how you were behind me 30 seconds after the rounds started.

I had a horrible night.
Multiple routes, I kept taking different routes because I know how d-truck plays that map on the Insurgents side. I didn't want to face him first as he was more likely to do damage to me, so I zig, zagged and circled around. I also take routes which afford the most coverage going diagonally rather than straight forward. Also the human tendency to go right plays a part, a lot of it is calculated guesses and plays on where you are and where you might go.

Having a surround sound set up also helps a ton. I often stop and listen for footsteps or watch for the mic icon. If I see the mic icon light up I know you're near, if I can hear you talk, I'm practically on top of you. In your case I saw the mic icon light up and I purposely started looking for you nearby that one time. It's also why I keep quiet during the match unless I'm relatively sure I'm clear of people that can hear the mic. I also keep away from my teammates because I'm actively listening for footsteps and theirs are a distraction in the process.
I was just calling it like it is.
I just got a kick out of it. It just made me all warm and fuzzy to be in the same league of consideration. I really just look at what I've done and I'm never really satisfied, I do work well with D-truk because I think we're similarly minded in an Army of Two kind of sense though.

I agree with ya. When we end up on the same side in respawn or play on the same team, we play very similarly. It helps to have our mics as well. I feel I'm probably a bit annoying to people by constantly hoggin' the mic calling people out, but hopefully it's more helpful than annoying.

And ppowers, you def a bigger threat than me. Unleash, dawg.

While you noticing this is good, Zipper needs to change it. It should be an audio clue, not a visual one.
While you noticing this is good, Zipper needs to change it. It should be an audio clue, not a visual one.
It's both. Audio comes in very faintly and with most non-CAGs having Mexican mics, it's hard to even hear them at -30db. When I overheard ppowers it wasn't enough to really provide any eavesdropping advantage nor directional assistance, solely my own hunter's instincts based on audio clues. It's not like a bullet indicator, the icon flashes briefly and really, that's the only warning you really get.

Sorry I miss wrote that that.

This what it should have been: "It should be an audio clue only."

/edit: Zipper has now updated that the next patch will be released "Early-Mid June 2011"

This feels awkwardly familiar to that other Socom game on the PS3.

Yep. Confrontation did that right at least. You dont' see the mic symbol, but you could hear the person. One thing's for sure (for me); if I heard someone in a specific direction, whether voice or footstep, I could tell where they were. In Socom 4, the sound is awful. You can't tell where the sounds REALLY coming from and if there's a teammate nearby, you hear their footsteps louder than the enemy's. I've tested to see if that was the case and it appears to be so. Sucks, makes my AX Pros useless for Socom 4.

Good games d367ruc70 and option. I don't believe I deserved that MVP. Either way, the Double XP is only counting certain XP gains, because it didn't double that MVP points that was listed.

I might not play as much after double XP week. The game needs work, lack of Socom Pro details, lack of old school game modes and just the overall problem that Zipper has been having is just annoying. If you told me that Socom 4 was going to have problems just like Confrontation, I would said that you were lying and that Zipper would do everything possible to make Socom 4 like OG Socom.

Unless the dlc that they release is of ColdFront caliber, then there might be hope. Besides that, I fear Socom as a franchise might be seeing its end of days. Which is truly sad, because after Socom, there won't be any games dedicated to one life per round game modes (unless Counter-Strike 2 comes out).

You know what's crazy? The Call of Duty games actually do have one life rounds, in search and destroy and some other modes. I'm not saying they're good nor defending CoD, but many games still have those modes. People just don't play them that much for that. Socom is known for it, and the fact it's "Classic" mode means it's going back to the original. Sadly, the rest of the game is not. If that patch doesn't come out soon, and the PSN store so that people can redeem their codes, I may stop playing as well except on CAG nights if many of us are on. I'm disappointed.

Good job in those games. You did deserve the MVP since you got so many certain types of kills. I enjoyed that match when Option came in. Rushing the warehouse is the way to go. If you guys on late tomorrow, i'll be on.

Id be surprised if the patch is out before June 15th. Im hanging on to my copy just in case its some miracle patch but its doubtful. It does remind me so much of Confrontations launch. Speaking of that, I got on last night and joined a game on Frostfire, killed a dude and he had a Famas with 1337 bullets and you never had to reload! Then I was killed by some dude literally flying through the air. Shit was like S2 hack status. The next room i was in was glitch free though. It was great to play Breach!

Whats the possibility of seeing Zipper add D lean on the d pads?
0, unfortunately. It's way too big of an adjustment and would cause all kinds of things across the entire game to have to be changed.

WOW! Why remove it in the first place then? They have our money, doubtful we are going to see many Socom fixes now.

Hey guys. I've finally had a gun go from 0 to Mod 1, then Mod2. Does it change the gun's dynamic? I didn't notice any changes.

Side note: Getting the hang of the game now. Had to slow down the sensitivity of pitch and horizontal plane... favorite mode so far is Bomb Tech.

When you're in the online menus you click on career I think it's called (the one that has your stats), and towards the bottom there is weapon progression. When on your weapon you can go left or right to see the different mod levels and what they do.

Also what do most people have their movement settings on? I'd imagine veteran gamers have stuff near max so you can turn and react quicker and just learn to adjust to the sensitivity? I've got mine pretty far up but it always seems like I'm shooting every frickin direction like a madman when shooting close range.

I'll probably be on a lot later today and tonight. I'm starting to crawl back towards a 1.0 k/d ratio now that I'm staying away from respawn modes, which should just simply be called grenade mode.

My movement settings actually are just slightly above where they are by default. I might set them back to where they were at default since faster movement actually seems to be less beneficial to me. Sure, turning and being able to see someone quicker if they surprise me is good, but most of the time I'm facing in the direction of someone and the faster movement causes me to be less accurate with my gun.

Average, classic bomb squad is usually what we play in CAG game nights against other clans. Good that you enjoy it. I loooove being the bomb tech. Check what gun you're working on and what each mod is. Suppressors are pretty much a must.

in general, higher sensivity is better. but oddly enough in socom 4, if you're trapped in alley in dog fight one vs one. its usually the always the camera that backstabs you. i dont think the sensitivity level will help in those circumstances. in the other times, higher sensitivity will supposedly allow you to aim faster
the mods are actual increases in performance. i remember from mw2 where your drops took a significant drop for adding a suppressor. the s4 guns barely drop the rate of fire. you can play around with the settings when customizing your gun. like dtruk said, getting the suppressor mod is your first priority because you don't want to show up as the red blip on the enemy's map for using your gun.

As I play CoD with 8 for sensitivity, I jacked the sensitivity all the way up. It's hard to get used to but you have to remember not to panic because the camera really works against you at times. I personally like to have people chase me across different angles, turn around quick and headshot them, cat and mouse but people forget the mouse is carrying a gun half the time when they chase.
cat and mouse but people forget the mouse is carrying a gun half the time when they chase.
THIS NEEDS TO BE ON A T-SHIRT.

The problem with the option settings is the lack of option settings. I know they are patching in dead zones and acceleration, but where is my Frogman preset?

You aren't ever gonna get your Frogman. Zipper hates Socom vets. They dug their grave by going after the casual crowd, and now with less than 400k sold nearly a month in they are gonna have to lie in it. This is what happens when you create a game with no identity. The best part is the consumer Zipper went after will never be around for DLC or longer than 3 months. They jump to the next shooter that comes out, when Socom fans stick around for 2+years on the same game, buying every piece of DLC available. Sadly, this very well may be the last Socom game ever made. Its sad

didnt confrontation only sell 230k in its first month? (im not disagreeing with your opinion, just the sales and their value).

Well it's Sunday. Hopefully I'll be on tonight..my plans are up in the air at the moment both for tonight and Tuesday, but I'll try to make it for the matches.
I'll def be on later tonight if anybody stays on later for some smaller clan matches. Count me in.

I'm on now. Showing only 1 other person online in the clan. If it stays quiet I may play something else, but feel free to message me and I'll switch.

Had to step away from the Clan challenges. I got frustrated with the mic system being broken and nobody was really pushing forward enough to support any kind of rushing on my part. The BS PE4 throwing really needs to stop, it doesn't belong in Classic at all. I also think the Mod 5 DK2 is bugged, I got killed really quickly with it several times without showing a headshot or more than a small burst(2 bullets give or take) hit me.

Dk2 is super cheap. If you ever notice when I get those kills back to back it's the Dk2. That thing silenced, I can snipe people with a shot or two. Sorry it was frustrating tonight, Mad. I got on just now well after everybody else had gotten off since I was out all night and the mic system wasn't working in lobby even, apparently. Crap...and Tuesday night starts my volleyball tournament around the time we have CAG night...I'd be back late and get on, but I somehow doubt anybody else will be on late.

Zipper, patch or gtfo.

I am amazed that this game is going backward. If Zipper had a patch ready that was supposed to go up some time during the outage, then get it out now. To find last night that the mic system is now broken in the clan challenge is totally pathetic. Confrontation had issues at the start, but they made attempts to fix it right away with small patches working up to the large patches. The things that were wrong with Confrontation had to do with the invite and match making system, but the communication, game modes and gun play all worked well. With this game not only is the match making/invite system broken, but so it the gameplay.

On the plus side I got my M200 sniper rifle to Mod 3, yay for the extra zoom. It definitely helps sniping across the map on Von Heine Express. Just need to do the same to the Edje and both the Socom and Mk20. Sniping seems to have clicked in my head as I'm able to drag shot and reasonably take out moving targets about 75% of the time now, though anything below the waist is still a 2 shot kill with either the M200 or the Edje.

Yeah...with how broken the game WAS and now is becoming (strange a game becomes MORE broken as the game ages, and I'm not even talking about glitches/exploits), I almost don't want to play S4. Obviously, I'll pop it in if people are on and there's enough people to enjoy it, otherwise...this is sad. They don't have a patch ready, sure they gave a list of what they were fixing and said some things about when or what, but they'd have already released it. Zipper doesn't care, they aren't supporting their title enough, and there are consequences.

How I felt about playing Socom this week:

"Okay I should play some Socom, get some of that Double XP"

How I felt playing Socom this week:

"MOTHERfuckING SHIT IS BROKEN AND BREAKING DOWN!" Rage quiting with positive KDR just because I was playing camera tag with my character's right shoulder and mic chat going in and out during gameplay.

I want to play a shooter and I want that shooter to be Socom. But shit man, what the fuck Zipper?

You are correct. I think it did ~ 260k in its first month, im not sure though. S4 looks to be around 290k for first month. Which is crazy since Confrontation was nearly unplayable for the first month(as you were there trying to play with us), had no Single Player, and was developed with the budget of a PS2 game. It also received reveiws no higher than 6/10 in most places some as low as 2/10

Thats my biggest problem right there. The gameplay is fundamentally broken. Confrontation after waiting 15 minutes, when you got in a game it was exhilirating and got your heart pumping. S4 did not do that one time for me in the nearly 50 hours of my life wasted. The game simply tries to be too many things, and has had all the skill stripped away with one button nades and circle of prayer xhairs.

I called it. Dont support Zipper and this garbage that is Socom4. They will not even release a player counter because apparently their online numbers at this point are embarassing. Remember Confrontation came out and they were so proud "We underestimated the demand for Socom", "25,000 logins at one time" "#1 played Online game for Playstation" etc. Point is they were bragging all over the Socom blog and PS Blog. Now S4 releases and Zipper buries there heads in the sand. 33 people fired and Lead Designer leaving before launch? Smells like a failure, and I am glad. They turned there back on the people who have supported them for damn near 10 years. You dont alienate your core fanbase and then expect to Increase sales.

Me too. I feel so defeated its ridiculous. Zipper is a joke

So who will be on tonight? I'm head now to my vball tournament but I'll be back to get on sometime tonight.

This is just sad how things have turned out for this game..

played a few games .... by myself. saw playerito but couldnt get into his game after a few tries. saw smog on confrontation.

I'm gonna agree with Goldbug. Until they patch it, I won't have any reason to put this in except to join in if more than one or two people are playing Socom 4. I'm re-watching Arrested Development on Netflix lately, fill that so-crack addiction.

so after finally playing this game for the past 3 days. ive noticed that...
this game is totally fucked!

- mines still stay after a player has been long dead, to my knowledge you cant shoot them off no matter how much you try.

- there seems to be a pmn mine exploit that is just SOOOO lame, you toss it and detonate it mid air, if its anywhere close to you kaboom. alot of cheap mofos have been using it.

- horrible camera sways all over your back side, one minute you can somewhat see whats going on, the next your blinded by your shoulder, chin, ass, bookbag, etc

- it doesnt seem many people play this crap anyway, i always run into the same people and have to wait in queves for game types.

- suppression is an excruciatingly booooooring mode on """classic""" mode, holy smokes i dont even wanna get into my opinion on this one.

also, why in the world would you ever wanna play 10+ rounds of ANYTHING!? even if its mathematically impossible for you to win???

ps: yeah that no crosshairs bullcrap? is total shit also

Yep. All legitimate complaints we all feel. Oh and if you all are excited about this game even more, the playstation store is back up so we can finally experience the Abandoned map and shotgun code! OMG YES now the game will be AWESOME...shoot me...

Ha, the day before PSN went down my buddy gave me his code for the GS preorder (shotgun + Abandoned map) and the day the PSN Store comes back online and I get to finally download it I get the same stuff free with my PS+ subscription, go figure.

Next time I play it's just going to be to test out my Sharp Shooter in MP otherwise this game is dead to me until they fix a lot of the problems. I know Confrontation had its problems but at least I had fun playing that game.

They are trying desperately to bring people back to the game. Sadly we want Socom gameplay not free weapons and maps.

Welcome Back to SOCOM 4–With Free Maps and Weapons!

+ Posted by Jeremy Dunham // Sr. Community Manager, Zipper Interactive

We’re very happy today to announce that SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs is now offering free maps and weapons to all PS Plus users! You might remember that we gave away the classic SOCOM map “Abandoned” and a couple of exclusive shotguns as an incentive to pre-order the game through GameStop. All PlayStation Plus users can now download “Abandoned” and the shotguns free for the next month! For those of you without Plus yet, don’t worry–your time will come shortly. Recall the blog announcement a couple weeks back announcing that, as a token of appreciation, the PlayStation Network will be giving all users 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership, coming soon. After a month of PlayStation Plus availability, “Abandoned” and the shotguns will continue to be available for SOCOM Pro members.
But that’s not all. When we announced SOCOM Pro shortly before SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs hit stores, we promised that we’d be delivering the oft-requested M16 and AK-47 shortly after release. We’re happy today to not only say that they’re almost here, but that they’re being packaged alongside a set of new competitive multiplayer maps!

Dubbed the SOCOM Pro Assault Pack, this bundle will be available as a free download exclusively to SOCOM Pro members and features three all-new competitive multiplayer maps: “Red Line”, “Double Cross” and “Driftwood”, as well as two fan-favorite weapons, the M16 and AK-47. The maps, inspired by missions from the single-player campaign, have been designed to feature tighter spaces with intense 8 vs. 8 matches in mind (not that 32-player skirmishes aren’t a blast on all three maps).

Wow, look at you, Zipper.
No patch, making what was already available 'available'. New maps and the guns you promised after the time you said you'd make them available? Amazing! "Inspired" by single player maps, meaning, taken single player maps and cut them down, and they're for "intense 8 vs 8 matches in mind" meaning there was little effort so they're incredibly small. Thanks for the hard work.

Criticism aside...hmm..nope, that's all I had to say.
