The fact that we still have 2 socom nights and are pretty full should tell you this is one of the best shooters on the ps3 :)
 
I got the game a month ago but have been busy, until now, since I'm done with school for the rest of the year...how exactly does CAG night work? I want in, PSN is NiGhTHaWk830, haven't played at all. Do you guys mind showing a newbie the ropes?

rpn, we're always open to newcomers. You can either hang with us and just "shadow" us, or what most recommend is going to private rooms and playing the 16v16 respawn maps to learn the ropes. You'll have to message smog for a clan invite as well, so we can get you in the clan.

Yeah if theres a positive to not being able to sleep its being able to download the patch :lol:. It is 658 megs. The servers aren't up yet, so all I can say is there is a new loading screen before and after the slant six logo movie.
 
Quick Notes from roaming around the menus and playing a quick respawn game:

1. The are separating DLC by rooms and not servers, about half the rooms on every server are DLC only rooms.
2. 4v4 demolition is gone, replaced by 4v4 medleys
3. Color Text is in the patch, red for team deaths, blue for kills by teamates, green for kills by you.
4. The map loading screen is text listing the game mode and a panoramic view of the map thats loading.
5. The mercenaries have armor loadouts for the artic maps while the commandos still only have one set for all maps.
6. Unlike the SASR the SR-25 has access to all scopes in the game, and can be suppressed. (I think its going to be my commando sniper of choice from now on)
7. M82 has only medium, 12x, and high scopes. Its model looks janky, really shiny and unfinished. (I haven't tried this gun out yet)

I haven't tried either the ak74 or the 9mm sub yet, so I can't say anything about them yet.

Check the upcoming VAL for mercs. Looks sick. This doesnt even look like same game. New loading screens, new spectator set up, better scoreboard
 
Now I have more reason to be playin Socom more instead of anythin else..not that I needed more reason. It's a bonus.
Damn my internet tho, it's takin forever to download that patch.
 
I created CAG - Dutch using one of my alternate accounts to play around with the HK417. I'm digging the gun, the 20 round clips really wouldn't make a difference in ranked play, it seemed like it would recoil nicely up the body if you started at about the waist area. If you want to join CAG -Dutch and try the HK417 out, let me know.

I did not like the 9mm sub, mainly for the reasons I am glad I'm done with smgs, not enough hitting power.

I think I was moving slower carrying 4 grenades, not sure if its enough of a difference to make me stop carrying them all though.

You can hear the .50 caliber sniper rifles from across the map, the game seems to be louder overall, or at least it seemed that way to me.
 
The encumbrance on the nades is not changed in the menu, so cant tell either.

What attachments are available for the 417? Mainly needs to have Suppressor and Front Grip to be a viable weapon IMO. Also whats the reload time like? 20 bullets is a short clip.

Also why do we need 3 versions of the AK? Im not complaining its just odd. I did like the AK74 for the 1 round I played. It has a front grip!

The 417 has all the available attachments, scopes (everything up through medium I believe), launchers, front grip, laser, and suppressor (not sure if it has both suppressors or not). The reload time didn't seem to be noticeably faster or slower than any other assault rifle. I don't think 20 bullets is that big of a deal in ranked rooms, how often does one person really get more than 5 kills in a round, with the worst case scenario of taking a whole clip to kill someone.

Also, the gun makes a wierd sound, it sounds sort of like the STG.

We have some great news for SOCOM: Confrontation fans. We’re excited to announce that the 1.60 patch is now available for download. Patch 1.60 contains a massive amount of new content and features entirely free to all players.



New Special Forces – The Dutch KCT and Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces teams are featured in this update. Each Force is provided with two new heads, a new voice and light, medium and heavy variants of their own torsos and legs (each with a unique camouflage pattern).

New Weapons – Two new primary weapons will be immediately accessible to players who select to play as the new Special Forces. The Dutch KCT will have access to the 417 assault rifle, while the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces will receive the SPAS 15 shotgun. Additionally, four new weapons will be made available to players regardless of assigned Special Force. New weapons include the 9mm Sub Machine Gun, M82A1A, AK-74 and SR-25.

Weapon Updates – A number of weapon updates and adjustments to existing weapons have been included in the patch. Below is an overview of the updates and adjustments that have been made:

  • M87ELR is given .50 cal rounds to balance it against the Mercenaries’ M82A1A.

  • Shotguns are balanced to do less damage at long range but more damage at close range.

  • Grenade launchers and rocket launchers have less delay in between shots.

  • Front End weapons values are updated to reflect the new Cold War DLC Pack weapons.

In addition to the new characters and weapons, the team has also added 100% Random Medleys to the patch update.



We also have some big news on the SOCOM Confrontation ‘Cold Front’ DLC Pack. To begin with, we now have an official release date: December 17th on the PlayStation Network. We want to make sure that you’re able to spend the holiday break playing ‘Cold Front’. In addition, the special $9.99 pricing will now be available from launch through Sunday, December 20

I think it takes me a full clip to kill somebody whether I'm using 30 bullets in an AR or 50 in the P90 :lol:

I played for some 10 minutes this morning and I like the cosmetic changes. The AK-74 is pretty cool and it has the same feel as the AK-47 without much recoil (because of the front grip maybe?)

I also tried the SR-25 and I like the fact that all the scopes are available. The fire rate is pretty quick. I was able to take down a guy that was running at me with a shotty with it.

I can't wait to play it some more. Hopefully I'll be able to get a couple of hours in tonight.

any news on the Home space? i read thats where you get the Gold guns via mini game or something in Home but havent heard anything since
 
Forums say they nerfed my AK...Any proof? Also home space has not been released yet. It is the mercenary space we are waiting on, we already have the commando one. To get the golden AK you need to play a mini game disassembling an AK47. There was a video of it somewhere like 3 months ago. What you think of 9mm sub? Im kind of upset the F90 is better in all regards

I read that as well. I haven't read news on when its implemented, but on home, the socom space has been brought back though and has been there for some time now.
 
Most of are probably so used to reading the top left by now. It will be much easier though. It does seem like there is an extra color in there though, maybe for teamkills?

Yeah, just about. Not saying I am not happy about the rest of the improvements, but I really haven't played enough maps or game modes to see the difference.
 
Update is badass. Everything looks pretty good. After playing awhile with the AK-74 and 9mm sub. The 9mm sub doesn't do any justice for me. Lovin' the ak-74 though!

Ak-74 is ok, doesn't seem that accurate. 9mm sub is definitely going to be another never used gun after a while. The new Merc sniper rifle looks goofy as hell (looks as if it was thrown together and included in the last minute.

They should really come up with a way to change factions without the penalty. I sure miss my GMP.

Also those loading screens would be so much better if I didn't have to stare at that Socom commando character.
 
Getting pistols kills sure is easier when your forced to use it...

I loved how during the one extraction match, we had four people on our team and 3 were carrying sniper rifles :lol:

I like playing cag only games, to me its more fun and satisfying killing one of you guys than killing some random dude. Plus sundays and tuesdays are the only days we really get enough people to fill a room, we can play on the same side all the other days of the week.
 
I pretty much enjoy it all. I just hate when we get into a room and get wrecked 0-5 over and over. Good games tonight. My ps3 locked up after my last quick match. Must of had something to do with Condor's knife in my back. Hopefully I got my kill credits though.
 
Great games guys, unfortunately I had to leave a little early. Managed to get my SMG elite trophy though.

Also, maybe it's me but Gold, you seem to be playing a hell of a lot better. Great job man.
 
GGs everyone. On Fallen - I knew the guy was facing me head-on. But, I didn't want to come out and shoot from the bush. I didn't want to reveal my 'hiding spot' for the next round. That's the reason why I couldn't pull the trigger. My fault for playing too safe guys. I was kinda hoping the guy would run past me so I can get a clean shot from the back.

lol, i bet you guys were like "wtf is esper doing? The guy's right there! Shoot em!"
 
I would consider picking this up since it is so cheap now, but I would just drag everyone down anyways. I have never played SOCOM before and have limited online FPS experience in general.

We're all a pretty good group of buddies, so feel free to kick back and relax with us.

Learning the maps (big part of the game) is a process that takes time, You can always just follow any of us and learn from them.

Hope to see another new face on Socom.
 
8v8 Clan Match tonight at 10, Crossroads Elimination. The real question is, will the other clan show up? Well there clan has 30 people, of which 27 the servers have lost their stats, looking like a no show.

You wouldn't drag everyone down. :lol: A bad group of players working as a team, is a helluva alot better than a bunch of good soloists.

Socom, was really the first FPS experience when I jumped over to the ps3, snagged it dirt cheap, and don't regret it.
