Try to stick to the unranked servers until you get a feel for the game. They are at the bottom of the list, usually with a regular name instead of 8x8, 16x16, etc. You can wait for CAG nights on Tuesdays and Sundays. We play a couple of games amongst ourselves, so you don't have to worry about being a beginner. We all started where you are.

There is usually at least one of us on pretty much every night. Check out either SmogItUp, MD, MisterB, Goldbug, OptionIV, Esper, Phishing or me and add us on PSN.
 
sorry about tonight fellas. I'm still trying to get use to this game. I don't mind sitting out if a better person wants to get in because i still need the practice time. Is this an open mic or do i have a press a button to talk

Don't worry about the frustration. I got killed within the first couple of seconds for every match I played in the beginning. I'm 14 hours into the game so far and things are finally starting to pick up for me. This game's got a steep learning curve, but if you stick with it, it rewards you with intense gameplay. Other players out there can also be really intimidating, but I have to say that the CAG's that play here are really supportive. Great people on this clan.

Stick with it.
 
Dude I almost posted that last night!!! Isn't that another prestigious franchise that has hardcore fans?? Kinda sounds like Socom...Well at least Sony learned their lesson and wont work with them anymore. I cant believe anyone would work with them
 
Hey smig, thanks for writing the tips on the 1st page. I finally got around to reading it. I adjusted my controls, gave it a test run, and its working for me. I think I might have changed them initally because my look and acceleration were almost all the way to the left and my dead zone was maxed out to the right. I finally got to throw my first gernade, missed the window, and killed myself. Live and learn
 
Haha yeah the tips definitely help. I would for sure go down to light or medium armor. Grenades are tricky and kind of suck in this game. Like darkerspy says the learning curve is very steep but this is the single most intense and rewarding game I have ever played. Hopefully you stick with it, we know it sucks dying at beginning of round
 
Thats the best part of dying is spectating, lol. I noticed that you guys like to get real close to the walls right next to a door. I tried it out and found out that you can see around the wall. Aim speed was a huge change for me. Any tips on how to throw gernades quick and/or far?
 
If you have your nades equipped tap R1 and it should launch a nade full force. The inbetween and directional throws is when you want to use the blue arc

Make sur you are using classic view instead of OTS. You can see around you much better

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been on in a while but it's been a hell of a week...in a good way! I got a new job and I should be able to play Socom more. I put in my 2 weeks on Friday so in the next few weeks I'll be able to hop online a lot more.

Hey, I play OTS and I take offense to that...

Haha, j/k. I did however play Socom 1 and 2, but OTS just caught on for me. I have to deal with the shoulder switching, but it's really not that bad when R3 handles that instead of holding x. I just feel I get a little more detail in this view. Six shooter is definitely made for OTS view.

Also I didn't know tapping R1 goes automatically to full throw range. That'll save me from developing a hernia or hemorrhoids. Throwing under hand is useful when there's a low ceiling, but there really aren't many times I found this to be the case. I also like the hunch over position (when sixaxis is on). It's great for hiding behind low walls.

My control scheme is a little weird as of late. I even have L1 and L2 as zoom in and zoom out respectively. It's great for scoping in and out quickly while moving.

Ever since i changed my controls, i jumped from a rating of 0 to 2. I know that's still sucky, but can someone explain how rating goes up and down? is it by points, kills, accuracy, etc?

and is ranking the same thing except that it doesn't go down?

wins mainly for the second


my last socoming for a couple weeks lets have some good games tonite
 
Everyone isn't quite sure about the confrontation rating. Most suspect it's largely based on kills. Though I haven't been above a rating of 35 or so. I get great games from time to time, but the rating doesn't move an inch.
 
just picked up a copy of the game on ebay today...hopefully it'll be here mid-week, wouldn't mind getting in on some action..although i'm sure i'll have a bit of learning to do, but i think this will be a good online alternative to some of the FPS's i'm more accustomed to playing, granted i suck at MGS online, and Uncharted 2 multiplayer...but i'm hopeful.
 
Howard blows @ Shootouts. When we didnt score in OT I knew it was over. I hope Crosby gets hit by a bus. Playoffs?? We are in for sure. We need the Mule back ASAP. Kronwall looked seriously hurt

It can't go off kills. I have so few kills compared to the rest of you and I'm currently at something like a 34. I think it's a total mystery, one that's too tough for even Scooby and the gang.

Lol. It was a good game. Even though both Detroit and Pittsburgh are smelly. Srsly. Malkin and Datsyuk I like though. And Zetterburg a bit too.

Lol me too. I was with Esper last night, couldn't hit anything. Asthmatic, I don't even think Lionman comes to this forum anymore. He bitches about everything in-game though.

Yeah I don't think he follows the thread either, as smog said just ignore him, if you want to dance on someone do it.

I already hate the MGs, going to take a long time to get used to them.

That last game was pathetic, if there ever was a game that called for vera it was that. Vera=The ultimate corner camper killer.

I think I'm going to have to start playing in the afternoon again, need those easy headshots to finally finish off shotgun elite.

Also, I just finished my 1300 ranked game, about 8 hours short of 200.

Thanks for the praise. It was the least I could do since I really screwed up big time on last night's games. One kill through 4 matches. Horrible night. Sorry to be the bullet cushion
 
Okay paintball it is. Terrorists can use ONLY the 9mm Uzi WITH SUPPRESSOR 2. Commandos use ONLY the HK7 with SUPPRESSOR 2. I think Kasbah middle building would be a great spot for this. Or Vigilance but the two teams stay on opposite sides of the bridge where we normally knife fight

Say, 10:40 EST??

Edit- Im gonna have to dig out the strategy guide to see what other settings are needed.

I think we should be able to use whatever SMG we want, and just play a regular elim round, no need for any special place. I don't want to have any special rules besides supressed SMG on single shot.
