CAG Warhawk GGL Tourny *Done
It's got tons to do with your uploading speed. I've got an upload speed just under 1Megabit and can do 12, so I'm pressuming you need speeds getting closer to 2Megabits to get 16 to 20 players.
Gotcha. I ALLEGEDLY have a 5Mbit connection up and down (Verizon FiOS) but I also have to run my PS3 wireless, so that could make it an issue. I'll test it at some point in the near future and let you know if I can host more than 8 at my new place. At home I had an upload somewhere around 512Kbit I think...great dl horrible ul on that service (Road Runner from Time Warner)

Correction: I'm now told it's 5d/2u so 2Mbps up. Not sure what that would grant me, or how well it would work since I'm running wireless, but I'll let you know when I figure it out.

My PS3 says it can do 20 players but I've never hosted before.

I can make it to all the games. Just have to load the fuckers in my fucking phone.

Well, I did a quick test and it seemed to allow me to host for 20 players. Again, I don't want to guarantee anything but if anyone wants we can stress test it and see how it goes one day in the future. If it works well enough I'd be able to host, but I don't want to until I test it out and see what the ideal # is...
When I went to dispute there isn't a dispute button like there usually is...

Anywho, I needed to send beef a message so I told him what happened and explained that there isn't a dispute button on the page so I asked him to look into it. I can't possible see how he couldn't give us the forfeit win.
I found it ingenious that after start time, their clan leader wanders onto the match page. There were messages from days ago, but he doesn't even take notice until after match time.
Also, he's clueless that he needs to host, not us, and even argues against the notion.
Finally, he scrambles to set up a host, and turns around to make it sound like it's our fault that we're not paging him and didn't play the match. BTW, I took a screenie of his server, the name didn't start with GGL, and unless it was a practice server, his settings weren't even correct (5 min limit, DM, score of 50).

If this doesn't get overturned, I'll crap a Dualshock. :bomb:

Anyway...

I believe I can make both these Saturday games.

Yeah, seems 2megabits - ~2.6 == 20 players. 2.8 megabits - I don't know == 24.
I've had upwards of 3.2 megabits up in their "speed test" that runs when you start a host and have only gotten a max of 24 players. Though some times the test reports 2.5ish and limits me to 20.

Wireless doesn't matter, when I host I do so over wireless, the speed limit on wireless is over 20 times the max upload your internet provider gives you. However, if your router is kinda cheap it could crap out. I think that's what happens when metaly hosts.

If any of you wants to stress test, just start up a server next time you want to play and leave it public. When I've done public servers late on saturdays they've seen to fill up pretty quickly.

I'll have to try that.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080611/ap_on_hi_te/tec_techbit_red_vs_blue

I don't know about the validity of the study, but it's a somewhat interesting read nonetheless... ;)
LOL. I prefer being the Blue team, since I'm used to RTS and other types of games where the enemy is always painted red in the mini-map or sensors view. Red=Not Friendly, in my brain. Whenever I'm on the red team I always take a second to adjust, thinking "Shoot Blue, Red friendly." That and Blue is Eurcadians and their bases spawn the cool Warhawk that I love so much.

Well wireless doesn't matter from a bandwidth standpoint, but from a ping standpoint it can be an issue. That's why I'd like to have some people who can give feedback (i.e. CAG if possible) on the server to let me know how it's looking.

Unfortunately, being a computer engineer, I'm all too familiar with these sorts of things, haha. But I will try running a public server and see how it works against the general public. It'd be better to get feedback from the clients' rather than the host's perspective.

Do any cags have any advice for a new warhawk player. I bought the PS3 last night and tried warhawk for a few mins this morning. It seems like fun once I figure out the controls, but I hate being the random guy in a game who can't actually control a character (when I got in a warhawk it was constantly looking up until I blew up... is that a six-axis thing?).

I wouldn't use Sixaxis controls for fight in terms of playing competitively. It's entertaining but less precise in my opinion. Otherwise, just play a bunch and you'll get a feel for things. And don't just stick to one strategy--sometimes the air is the right approach, sometimes on foot, sometimes in a tank/jeep, and sometimes a turret. Just try to be dynamic and learn all the ins and outs of each type of weapon, etc.

You'll get a feel for it soon enough...

The only cool thing about using the Sixaxis is that you can manually aim your machineguns, whereas while using the sticks you always shoot (mostly) straight ahead. I suppose if you really became a Sixaxis expert then you could do some crazy stuff, but it probably wouldn't be much more effective than putting the same amount of effort into using the sticks.

Well, ask everyone/anyone that ever played when I hosted. I don't think they've experienced any ping issues.

And for tomorrows games we have

14th 8pm
 1. freaky
 2. smog
 3. stranded
 4. socal
 5. tux
 6. godly
 7. zen
 8. cthuhlu
14th 10pm
 1. freaky
 2. super
 3. smog
 4. stranded
 5. tux
 6. godly
 7. zen
 8. cthuhlu
So I'm going to go ahead and post that we should be good with 8v8.

Who's supposed to host those games, out of curiosity?

My wife just told me she has a surprise for me Sat night - so I am going to have to duck out of the 10pm game - cthuhlu can fill in for me since he is alt #2 and Tux dropped out already.

I should be able to make it to the 8pm game since that is 5m local time for me. But if somebody wants to take it feel free - just post here so we can know.

Wait... tux dropped out? Where did that happen?

HAHA...
I think he meant xxx but got confused... probably lost his mind thinking about the surprise his wife has for him... Pics or it didn't happen.

About that game we were supposed to play on tuesday. I finally hear back from beef, and this is what he has to say.

They were suppose to host. Did you guys end up playing yet or no? If not, I'll allow for a reschedule.

As for the challenges, link me any ones you get and I'll delete them for you.
So... he doesn't want to give them a forfeit, even though the rules say they did.

When the admin is all "the rules say..." one week, then is throwing the rules out the window the next makes me want to just say fuck this shit.

Update on matches for tomorrow.

8pm game
They said they're good with 8v8 and they can host. Though they haven't posted the server info yet.

10pm game
They said they can host, but can only do 6v6.
Server info is
name == ggl-game1
password == rocket

LOL ya meant xxx... no idea how I messed that one up

I talked to CT and he is good for covering me for the second game. I should be fine for the first one unless Shamoo eats me when I am at Sea World.

And ya, no pics for you!

:cry::cool:;):lol:

And I got some bad news, sorta...
Something came up and I won't be home until at least 10 or 11pm, so I won't be able to make it to either match (which shouldn't be that much of an issue, since both teams have said they'll host). So to those that are playing tonight will have to check the match pages for any info that may be posted.

Also, as a reminder, here are the rosters for tonights games. Though the 10pm game will be a 6v6, so two guys will have to drop out. I guess you can duke it out amongst yourselves to determine who will be the lucky ones.

14th 8pm (8v8 I hope nothing comes up for these people, since there aren't any alts right now)
 1. freaky
 2. smog
 3. stranded
 4. socal
 5. tux
 6. godly
 7. zen
 8. cthuhlu
14th 10pm (6v6)
 1. freaky
 2. super
 3. smog
 4. stranded
 5. tux
 6. godly
 7. zen
 8. cthuhlu
Good luck you guys... see you later.

This Beef guy is not very bright. Does he realize what the rules are, and that the gist of your email is that we can't play any more games? Yet he wants us to reschedule a game they didn't show up to... :whistle2:?

You're working too hard for this sort of BS, mguiddy. Unless you want to argue with the idiots, just let it drop. Doesn't sound like it's worth the effort.

BTW, is DaNaD back, or still AWOL? This seems like a lot of work for just you to handle.

Yup I am good for this game :applause:

Ok trying to join by connecting to your game Stranded...seems to be working...

something's up w/ my mic though. i can fix it for the 10:00 but i don't want to leave this game just in case.

otherwise i can switch to my other mic anytime

Crap my internet isn't doing too well--storm outside. I'll try to reconnect ASAP but the 10pm is even less likely now for me...I can try and get there if we have no one else, but otherwise I'll let the alts step in for it...

You're right that we did much better...but that doesn't say much haha.

Anyways, if you need me for the 10 I can play but otherwise I'll sit out--need to shower and start MGS4 haha...let me know.

I'll be there for the 10pm game. :)
Okay you guys... just breathe, knock yourself out with a mallet, and maybe we'll forget that that last match just happened... That should keep our morale up!

Good luck, guys.

I thought we put up a pretty decent fight in that second round. During the first round it seemed like we were always on the verge of getting our footing back, but it was just too hard to make it across that bridge.
