I've a better solution, Sony fixes it.
I shouldn't have to buy ANOTHER product to fix something Sony broke.
I'll actually try to explain how it happens (from what I've heard a bit). When Sony is working on making a firmware upgrade, they are trying to do two things:
-Reduce the memory footprint which the OS uses
-Add some features
In order to make the in-game XMB work (one reason every column in the XMB loads up separately because PS3 doesn't have enough memory reserved in-game to load up the entire XMB, has to do it all separately), they had to get the memory footprint down significantly. One big fault with the PS3 early on was that the OS used a lot of memory and due to the PS3 only having 256MB of memory (with a portion of it reserved for the OS), it was a nightmare for developers and for Sony themselves (they really should have gone 512MB or 1GB from the get go of RAM). So anyway, a few things done to get the OS reduce normally cut out various code or try to compress the code in some areas more. That's usually how bluetooth gets messed up (also it's difficult with bluetooth because Sony themselves cannot easily test every headset available to make sure it works, since there are so many).
Will the bluetooth issue ever get fixed? Maybe, but I'm 60% leaning towards no. I remember when Firmware 1.6 came, which made certain Motorola headsets (which worked great, like the H350) no longer work and they still don't. That's mostly why a while ago, I decided to recommend USB headsets to people who ask about what headset to buy (they are only $10-$25 too, and they don't need to be charged). It sucks they are wired no doubt, but they cannot be messed up with firmware upgrades and the voice quality is great. That's kind of why I'm really debating whether I should get the headset with SOCOM, since I don't completely trust bluetooth (I have a feeling Sony will make sure that headset works because it's technically official, but no guarantee). It's not just firmware I'm recommending USB over bluetooth, even when my bluetooth headset was working great, sometimes it de-synched causing my controller to no longer work also (and I had to reset the PS3. That's a common problem).
