Though, since the 2.4/2.41 firmware, all or almost all bluetooth headsets have connection problems (at least with Warhawk and GTAIV, I can't say with other games). They'll lose connection after 1+ hour and require the PS3 to be reset to work again. If you can wait, do it. There may be a firmware upgrade around the time SOCOM comes out that'll fix the connection problem, or Sony could be an ass and leave it broken and just tell people to buy the Official headset.

If you have to have one "now" I'd say get the SOCOM bundle, since that headset will have the highest probibility of working. I've been using my Eye as a mic and will continue to do so until I see how Sony handles this problem.
Also, in before TMK explains why bluetooth headsets don't work (again). I say Sony should just support the bluetooth specs fully (would the problem be THAT widespread if they followed everything fully?) or make it proprietary, none of this middle of the road shit. I'd wadger they added code to support the special "features" of the official headset and that's what borked (mostly) every other headset.
Like I said, the specifications were messed with in order to reduce the size of the firmware to make in-game XMB possible (before hand it was not possible because the PS3 OS used up too much memory in-game, and Sony has been spending a lot of time trying to decrease the memory foot print). The problem is they cannot technically test every headset out there to make sure a firmware doesn't mess it up. The bluetooth wasn't necessarily messed with to make the official headset work, more so it was messed with to compress/refine the software code in order to allow for more features to be added. I firmware added to support the new headset isn't until the next update.
The one major issue with the PS3 is lack of RAM and Sony not exactly being the software experts like MS (Sony has the edge in hardware no doubt). Every firmware update the OS footprint is reduced in order to fit more features and eventually get the in-game XMB to work (that was their goal for a long time). Since I've worked with software myself, you reduce the amount of memory it uses by compressing and refining the code in an area (a somewhat example is instead of using several if statements, using a loop instead to do almost the same process reduces memory). Sometimes as the memory is reduced, things may not work quite the same (which could be the case with the bluetooth). There could be a problem with Sony could go back to the way the bluetooth was initially implemented, but at the same time it could push the PS3 OS memory back up above the footprint (I might not be right here, but that MIGHT be an issue). So Sony would have to find another way to make it work. When they added support for bluetooth keyboards/mics in Firmware 1.6 (also greatly reduced the memory), it DID mess up a few headsets (like Motorolla H350, which was perfect before the firmware update, then no longer worked since then).
There's a long explaination I can make about the reason Sony did not have an official bluetooth headset earlier, but I'll save that for another time.
Can people with the bundle comment on the quality of the headset?
I want to get this bundle for $30, but I also have SOCOM bundle preordered using my credit. The credit is worth less than the $30 cash, but I can continue to flip with the credit so it is also valuable. So, either I spend $30 cash for WH bundle and buy SOCOM stand alone with the credite or buy the SOCOM bundle with credit and get used WH for less than $20. I am sure the SOCOM headset is better.
Just go with USB headset by Logitech. It's guaranteed to work and has the best quality.
