CAG Warhawk Night [TBD]

The dogfights on cag taught me to use warhawks to a serviceable degree. I'm now able to get in one on the rookie servers and be decent. The key is using the machine gun. I still have no idea how to use the lightning or TOW crap, but machine guns and homing missles will get you pretty far. First just try to stay alive though.

Great game with the noobs, some of them did better than me (not a great achievement really). And someone kill aihuman a few times for me, he's on my new shitlist after yesterday :lol:

Keep in mind... I'm not that good in a warhawk, but these are my observations/strategies I use.

Well... with machine guns I find it good to pulse them, so they don't overheat, the exception is if you're chasing someone down that is almost dead, then hold down the button and let them run. Also, remember that the guns auto aim.

With the lightning gun you can hold down the button to charge them up, you'll notice the circle around the targeting reticle filling up, once it's fully charged you can fire the ball of lightning that'll stick to planes. You can only charge them if you have full ammo.

With the TOW, the only tip I can give is to use the remote detonate when you're near other planes, it's hard as heck to actually hit a plane.
With Swarm missles I like to lock on as many as I can, get right on someone's ass, then let them go. The closer you are the less likely they'll be able to shake/chaff :)roll: seriously... who uses chaff to get rid of swarmers :roll::cool:) them.

With Lock on's it's best to get as close as you can, though they are a lot harder to shake, so it's easier to hit people with a distance. Also, they only take off around 3/4 health, so be using the machine guns at the same time.

The only thing I have to say about air mines are... Don't deploy them if you have swarmer locked on, it'll likely blow up right as you deploy it, killing you. Same goes if you're constantly getting hit with machine gun fire, it's not as likely to kill you, but it can still happen. Good places to deploy are over/near weapon pick ups or in clouds, if the map has clouds.

The stealth pick up... If someone has a lock on you before you engage the stealth, the lock ons remain until you're out of range/off the screen. So if you're following someone and have some lock ons and they engage the stealth, try to get as close as you can but let loose before they get off your screen.

Cluster bombs... ask zen... I can't hit the ground with those suckers.

LOL I still mostly use the Warhawk just to get from one side of the map to another (as it's faster than Jeep or Tank) and then just hop out and fight on foot.. I'm still not very good flying those suckers. :(

It always amazes me how effective that can be in big ctf games, get in warhawk, zip behind enemy base and either kill everyone till your team arrives or take the flag and run in a jeep.

When you get out of the warhawk, remember to toss a couple grenades at it and destroy it so it respawns back at your base for others to use. I've been trying to do this ever since that GGL game. :cold:

Especially right at the start. Sometimes everyone scatters at the start to do their thing and no one stays to protect the base.
 
My router died on the first CTF game.. :cry:
I think that either my TV's crazy-loud or my headset's broken cause it seems like it gets More sensitive every time I turn the sensitivity down lol.

If I wasn't sniped by SoCal, I would be 'binoculared' by mguiddy. ;)

All in all, good games... Next week when the patch and booster come out is when we really dine in hell! :twisted: We'll fight in the shad-, err umm... Or actually, where we'll be the shade! :cool:
 
The end of that last CTF was insane! Mguiddy was headed back over the bridge with the flag, so I tried knocking him over the edge. At first I thought I'd missed until I saw him rocketing past me. I'd turbo-boosted him straight towards his base where he proceeded to capture my flag right at the buzzer. #-o :bomb: I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have made it in time otherwise.

That round was really fun! I saw you hit him and he went flying! It almost looked like the lag jump but I knew it was not that. I can say that is the first time I have ever seen anything like that before lol.

We need to do a CAG night with a ranked server. Earn us some points and have fun while doing it.

And I agree... A ranked server CAG night would rock.
I tried doing a ranked server a few times after Saturday CAG night, but not enough people joined.
We could even pick an official server that's pretty empty to play in.

I've done that in the past on public servers, tonight I tried to run down the hero with a jeep. I hit him, pushed him over the edge, and he still killed me.
 
O I teamkilled a hero last week. I threw a grenade at the other hero, and my team's hero ran in killed the other hero then got blown up by my grenade. I'm just glad I didn't stab my teams flag carrier in the back this week :)
 
speaking of teamkills...what was freaky doing teamkilling during the collections game?

my dog chewed on the bluetooth headset that came in the bundle.

Thread updated for the week, since I'll be gone for a few days. Also, to let everyone know, I'm debating about having a Warhawk night in 11 days on my birthday. The server would be called TMK_Party or something like that. :lol:

Just to let everyone know, I'll probably attempt to do a dedicated server this week. One once the patch comes out, and another once the new expansion comes out.
I'll post more details later.

Oh... and did anyone notice bad lag last night?

I looked at joining last night but the ping times were showing as "????". I usually have a filter set at 200 which I had to remove to even see the CAG server. Hopefully I have better luck next week.

Yeah... for some reason my connection's been wonky...
Last week, pings would occasionally jump to into the 500's.:bomb:

Oh... and the last time I attempted to do a dedicated it didn't stay up long for some reason...

It's accidental really. In trying to kill off the other team's players, sometimes my team members get in the way and I get them killed unintentionally. #-o

Ha, that was me. I was at the edge of the cliff trying to use the binoculars, when everything started jumping around. Once I realised I'd hit the ground, I switched off the binocs and saw random scrambling to get out of his jeep. Good times.

And a thought occurs to me: how much punishment can a hero take? Does falling from a great height still cause a suicide? I'm thinking of something really tall like the towers in Destroyed Capitol, or the main bases in the Omega Factory.

Holy crap, I just thought of something else! Once the jetpack is released.... Warhawk base-jumping!!! :hot:

I swear I tripped over a rock and suicided as the hero last night during that last hero on Standoff.
I go that same way off that hill all the time and it never kills me.:roll:

But no... I don't think they have greater tolerance to falls.

And good to hear no one noticed any lag. I did notice pings were nearing the 500's during the first match, but didn't notice it going that high during any other games, though I wasn't checking often.

Well, I was curious so I performed a shall we say 'field test.' A hero with full health, from the 2 points I mentioned goes down to 3 bars.

Is the new expansion coming out next week? I thought it was only the 1.5 patch or whatever that added Trophies and the tutorial & offline practice modes?

I downloaded the patch and got one of the training mode trophies. Unfortunately, I cannot play this online yet due to the server being down. :whistle2:(

Anyway, I'm posting in this thread because I decided to have a very special Warhawk night, on September 4th, 2008. It's on a Thursday. It will probably be at 10pm EST. Anyway, that is my birthday and decided Warhawk would be the best game suited to have a celebration with. It doesn't give me headaches like CoD4 (due to the invite system being annoying, not everyone listed as being online). I love playing Burnout online, but I kind of question how many would actually show. I know MANY who have Warhawk, I can set up a server titled birthday, and even put a message. Also, I can freely talk with people in Warhawk. SCIV and RB are great games, but can only play with a few at the time. So anyway, unless Wipeout HD is coming on my birthday, Warhawk will be the game we'll play.

Not too sure if I'll continue to hold Warhawk on Friday night though.
 
Just wanted to let everyone know that I've set up a Ranked Dedicated server that'll, barring network issues, be up until late tonight.

and I've reserved 10 spots for people on my buddy list.
