CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

cheapyd and wombat....who do you think is the most unbiased videogame critic...as you mentioned before cheapyd, someone who gives 8/10 for motorstorm a game that should have been on the ps2 obviously is getting a little sumsum on the d/l
i forget if which critic it was but that person gave Fusion Frenzy 2 something higher than a 5...dont remember too well cuz i almost had a heartattack when i saw it...
CheapyD, Wombat, why not have a Digg the CAGcast contest? I feel bad because I only just got around to it myself, but if you gave me the possibility of winning sweet sweet loot my cheapass would have done it in an instant! You could verify the winner Dugg the CAGcast by requiring the winner to sign up for Digg using their CAG username. People who have Digg accounts already might have to sign up for a second one but I'm sure they wouldn't mind for the chance of winning say a Wii, or a healthy sum of playasia credit. Maybe run it for like a month.

I think you'd destroy Major Nelson if you did this!
ok I agree this is slightly shady. how about Wombat endures one meatspin on the CAGcast for every new Digg that has happened in the past week? This would have the same sick fascination as the "dunk the clown" game, except it would be more like "meatspin the wombat". Surely he'd take a few meatspins to surmount ronald mcnelson. eww...

we all know Cheapy is a hardcore Robocop toy collector, but does Wombat have anything that he enjoys collecting? don't be shy! :D

Hey Cheapy and Wombat. Love the show, been a listener since #1 back in the day.
My question is: is there a way I can split the cagcast, or mp3s in general, into "chunks" or pieces? I love listening to the show, but its annoying stopping it when I go into my english class, only to realize I'll have to stand around for 8 minutes to fast forward to that 70 minute spot I was at. Any tips would be great. Keep up the good work.

Oh, and Wombat, the Prestige WAS better than the Illusionist!\

Thanks,
G$

UPDATE: ALRIGHT, LUCKY #1289!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheapy,

As a rabid fan of Suda Goichi (Suda51) you can't imagine my frustration at being not able to attend the recent Zombie VS. Snake 2 even in Japan. Not only staring Suda, but Kojima, Mikami and Mizguchi.

All for a paltry 2500 yen.

My frustration could only be topped by my incredulity should you not take advantage of these Grasshopper Manufacture events in the future.

Odds are, these meetings are exponentially more interesting than most game conventions. The DigitalLife convention or.... a sit down with the creators of Killer7, Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Lumines and Shadow of The Collosus.

Is there any doubt that these are worthwhile events to cover? Hell, they announced the sequal to Snatcher!

Cheapy, you gotta take advantage of your unique position. As much as I enjoy the giveaways and contests - covering one of these meetups would be ten times the gift for me.

What are the odds of you making the next one, whenever it is?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat

Have you ever considered sister or sub sites for CAG that are garnered towards different regions. I.e. a Cheap Arse Gamer for the UK or a gamer bon marché d'âne for France?

If you ever decide to do a UK one, I'm your man ;)

Cheapy and Wombat,

Great podcast! The CAGcast was one of the first podcasts that I downloaded, and its now become a staple on my ipod every week. I like the podcast so much that I played one of them for my girlfriend, which, actually, turned out to be a terrible idea.

Cheapy, you have ruined my life! My girlfriend will sit for hours reading about your exploits in Japan, refusing to go rollerskating with me, which is something we used to do constantly. Whenever I make the mistake of interupting the CAGcast when she is listening to it, she will shush me and get angry. And worst, at Wombat's recommendation, she bought Viva Pinata, and now I no longer have reliable access to my XBox360. I hope you're happy!

Dear Cheapy,
Are there Triads and Yakuzas and whatnot in Japan or are they "American" Japanese gangs?

Dear Wombat,
If two brothers get gay on each other, is it incest?

Dear CheapyD and Wombat,
I was wondering, why is the DS still selling to strong in the Japan and U.S. I have heard Cheapy saying how hard it is t find one in Japan, and I have had the same experiance in the U.S. There do not seem to be many games that are great and have that "Wow" factor but there are some. I know that puzzlequest recently came out and that might push a few more systems, but other then that and like, phoenix wright, trauma centre, and the final fantasy (which I happen to like) there do not seem to be that many great games. Thanks if you answer this and I love the show.

Hi guys,

What do each of you think about the incredibly popular pokemon series? With over 500,000 preorders in the US alone for the new Diamond and Pearl titles it seems like a LOT of people are interested in a pretty basic RPG adventure game.

pokemonlineshinjuku.jpg

Have either of you played the previous titles in the series? If you're not interested is it because you think they're too childish?

I played the living sh*t out of Blue a loooooong time ago but I wasn't interested in any of the new games until now with them specifically designed for the DS.

Hey Cheapy, have you gone to any Japanese arcades while you've been up there, and if you have, how much are the Japanese into 2D fighters like Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, etc?

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
Do you think that songs for GH would be cheaper if people could download songs illegally if they wanted? Could this be one reason there is no GH for the PC? Because a PC version would be too hard to control and would quickly be hacked so that anyone could load any song they want into it? The easy availability of illegal downloads helped drive down the price for stores like iTunes, so maybe the lack of an easy way to do it for consoles keeps the price higher.

Cheapy and Wombat,
Oh, BTW, is there any way we could get a show under 1 hour again? I have lots of podcasts I like to listen to, and as great as the show is, the longer it gets the more likely I'll just skip around to stuff like reviews and news. I like most of the extra stuff besides strictly game news, but there is only so much time in the day and you're not the only game in town. In a way, you seem kind of like XBOX Live Arcade sellers, pushing the time(as opposed to price) as high as possible before you start losing listeners?

Hey Cheapy and wombat,
I have 2 questions for you first...
My sisters have gotten hardcore into 'Super Mario' (4hrs a day) but, they say that they don't like video games. Although it is obvious that they like them how can I get them to start playing other games (DS stuff maybe even some Xbox?)
Second...
I was talking to a friend of mine and we started talking about; a few different video games. And the subject of being disrespectful to the soldiers that are fighting or have fought and died for our (or other nations) freedom and, how some games almost insult that what are your opinions on that?
Thanks for your answers,
Jackson

This is for both CheapyD and Wombat.

If you absolutely had to, or else your entire family and loved ones would be killed, would you rather:

1) Get fucked in the ass by a huge black man

or

2) Suck a guy off and swallow the load

Thanks!

joke question :)

Hey, got pretty bored today and was checking out your gamer card cheapy and see that you've been playing earth defense force. So, do you like it? Personally I think its a great game. Also a tip for long sessions, just listen to some music instead of all the in-game voices.

Hey guys, if both of you were a famous duo, either from gaming or comic books, which would you be? (i.e. Banjo & Kazooie, MJ and Scottie Pippen, or Bert & Ernie)

And who would be the sidekick/younger sibling/lackey, or the basically the one on bottom (like in Bert & Ernie's case)?;)

Here's a question for the infamous WOMBAT for his birthday episode.

WOMBAT, how do you get through each day of your miserable life without hanging yourself, slicing your wrists, or putting a bullet through your head? The nagging wife. The terrible jobs. Having more rats than money? What keeps you going... that some day you'll make something of your life?

CheapyD and Wombat,

A few months back I started listening to video game podcasts while bored out of my mind at work - it's basically the equivalent of reading a weekly gaming magazine but it still allows me to give the illusion of being productive. Anyway, I listen to quite a few over the course of the week, and the CAGcast is definitely one of the most enjoyable ones.

However, there is one thing about the podcast that bothers me - and that's your use of aliases. I guess that leads me to my question - I know you guys are friends outside of the CAG-world, so when you talk privately, do you still call each other by your CheapyD and Wombat aliases?

When you called your wives Mrs. CheapyD and Mrs. Wombat, I cringed a little at its absurdity. Surely you guys aren't so concerned with privacy that you avoid calling each other by your actual first names.

Aside from that, great show, it really makes my Wednesdays.

Cheapy, are you a member of the Japanese Club Nintendo rewards program, if not, why not?

Also, I forgot to ask Cheapy this a long while back, but are you able to get into the All Nippon Amusement Machine Operators Expo, or for that matter, the JAMMA show? Too late for for AOU this year, but JAMMA is in September, I think, and I think it would make an interesting feature to have for the YMIJ segments.

Guys,
One of the things that bugs me about the cagcast is that whenever I'm listening I keep wishing I could shout at you and tell you how wrong you are without my girlfriend staring at me, but with you hearing it. I think you should pick one good question from the cagbag each week, and then have that question asked by the person who wrote it, either over skype (just for the cagbag segment), or previously recorded.

This has the added benefit that you can't forget my name when I ask a question again :)

hey guys..

I know Wombat is a comic book fan.. did you guys hear about they found real life Krytonite? It doesn't glow or anything but its still pretty cool that something fictional exisits in the real world.. anyways keep up the good casts.

Cheapy/Wombat:

Since your "special days" are here or soon to be, what did each of you ask for as gifts?

I always thought that you guys were older than me for some reason.

This is to both Cheapy and Wombat. How many people do you think can actually call themselves "Cheap Ass Gamers"? I mean, we have people who preordered the "Legendary" edition of halo 3 at 120 fucking dollars, but yet, are hesitant to spend 50-60 dollars, and sometimes even 25 on a great game. But really, if you are a real cheap ass, wouldn't you wait to see some gameplay footage (i know a video was released this week) before laying down 120 dollars for such a game and a helmet!

BTW, I was only using the Halo 3 thing as an example, I wasn't meaning to cut down the people who did preorder it in full.

i have a question for cheapyd! cheapyd why dont you have a myspace like wombat? id love it if you could get one and if you want i can help you pimp it out!

hey guys (and wombat!) i was wondering maybe you can make a cag cast all about old gameing consoles! i think it would be realy cool and send my best to mrs. wombat and mrs. cheapy!

Hey guys,

Recently, another wave of backwards compatible titles were announced by Microsoft. This question is a 2-parter:

First, how does Microsoft determine which games they will program (if that's the correct term) to be backwards compatible? Is the decision based on sales numbers/popularity of the game? Surely, that can't be it because there are some pretty crappy titles that they've made b.c.

Second, with the release of the Elite happening and the old Xbox being discontinued, do you guys think we will see an end to the backwards compatible titles? I'm still waiting for the rest of the Prince of Persia series to become b.c.!!!

Hey Cheapy and Wombat another great Cagcast
Anywho with the announcement of a new Nights game for the Wii what older game would you like to be Wii-done.

good show, as always. Wombat cracks me up, "I sneezed."

Anyway, my Q...

Do you think we will ever see downloadable content go on sale? For example, the XBLA games that have been out for a year now, do you think MS will lower the price of them, or just keep 'em sitting there in case someone new comes along and wants the game (or you or Wombat get too drunk and spend some points in the wrong way). And will the big N ever lower the price Mario 64 on the VC?

And kind of related, do you think there will ever come a time when downloadable content gets taken off the marketplace? For example, I am interested in the new characters for Marvel:UA, but don't plan on getting the game for a good bit still...will I miss out on Venom and the Hulk by waiting?

Hey Cheapy D and Wombat

Long time listener, first time posting, love da show!

SO..

With older consoles like TG-16 and genesis doing somewhat well on virtual console, how do you think the new crop of VC "consoles" will fare( such as MSX, and more importantly NEO-GEO) on the wii this summer?

plus with Cheapy in Japan and getting them first, will you download them?

Thanks guys you rock!

Have you guys considered doing the CAGcast on a different day? Since games are released the same day you do your show, why don't you wait to do the show on a thursday or friday so you can give your thoughts on brand new games from that week that you have spent a few hours playing? Now I have to wait until next week to find out if the Heroes/Villains pack for Ultimate Alliance got Wombat to squeal with joy.

Once again, GREAT podcast. My favorite on the net, bar none.

I am NOT the biggest fan of Blu-Ray as I don't think the increase in quality is worth the format change, and I LOVED Wombat's comparison to Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest (TEH SUCK)'s sales on DVD.

BUT... (and speaking of "buts", how's the weight loss going Cheapy?)

How were DVD's selling versus VHS during DVD's early days?

I hate to try and paint any sort of hope into the picture for Blu-Ray, but it might be too early to say it's not doing well.

In regards to Cheapy's Forza experience: I have trouble when I play racing games with a wheel too. It's harder to play, but it feels cooler, if that makes any sense.

Also, some feedback:

Cheapy, PLEASE STOP RUSHING WOMBAT!!! I really like his input, and it seems that towards the end of anything he says, you try and hurry him up and move on to the next point. I REALLY wanted to hear Wombat's thought's on Justice League Heroes, since I love the game and was hoping he'd give it a chance, but you just kept cutting him off.

Wombat (didn't think YOU were getting off the hook, did you?) it's your opinion, and I can't say you're wrong, as that would be silly, but I personally disagree that Justice League Heroes had good PS1 graphics. I was pleasantly surprised with the visuals, and that's high praise considering I usually play Xbox games. However, I completely agree that it blows not being able to choose which characters you play all through the game.

Thanks for your time.

With retro gaming being back "in" (well it was always in, but now it's becoming more and more accessible due to VC, XBLA, Gametap, etc). In your opinion, what game has crushed your nostalgic memories the most? Any games you'd been dying to play again only to find out it really wasn't as good as you remembered?

No question, but I wanted to point you guys in the direction of this Media Post Gaming Insider column. It takes Wombat's idea of sponsored items and couples it with the Achievement Point concept and blends it into real, meatspace (not meatspin thank you) items.

http://blogs.mediapost.com/gaming_insider/?p=48

By the way, I work in advertising/media placement and Wombat's idea has real merit. VC funded start up anyone?

Dear CheapyD,
This is to you because of something you said a few episodes ago. You said you saw an American Wii on Playasia for $400. You said you should have bought too seeing how much Playasia credit you have. I was wondering, how did you get so much credit that a $400 purchase seems like nothing?

Hey guys I loved the show so much I thought I might just join the forum, though that's not why I am posting, I've heard CheapyD talk a hell of alot about playasia, so I went and checked it out, and I was wondering the games that say no region protection, specifically this one (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9g-77-c-49-en-15-Harvest%2Bmoon-70-gx5.html)
are they playable on a DS from lets say the US or Canada, or do I need a Japanese DS to play it? Also do they ship to Canada? Thanks guys for the great show, really helps my study sessions go by quicker!

What's your view on the rehash of RE4 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma? I can understand the retro gaming craze that is going on with DL games, and I can even swallow the classic NES games released on GBA, but something seems not so right with the re-re-re-releases of these recent games (RE4 and NGS). It just seems like a waste to allocate resources and manpower to these 3+ year old games. I'd much rather see RE5 and NG2 or whatever they want to call them...bottom line is bring the next gen experience with NEW CONTENT, don't just cash in on a graphical update and some new swords/controls cause you know we will pay for the same game for a 3rd and 4th time. It will be interesting to see what the MSRP is for these games.

Just like experimenting with DLable games and what the consumer is willing to pay, this rehashing of titles in HD is an experiment IMO. What if another million copies are sold of RE4 or NGS? This will undoubtedly set a precedent (like the dl games) and get many board rooms buzzing with ideas of what last gen titles to re-release on your next gen system in "full HD glory" with some new items and/or controls. Pick your top 4 favorite or bestselling games from last gen on each of the consoles...Would you pay another $40-$60 for a graphically updated version (on a next gen system) with some new items or control scheme? I would bet some developers are asking the same questions.

Last question, what are some other games that have gone down this road?

Dear CheapyD and Wombat. love the show, I've been listening for about 2 months and just recently joined the forums. I've got a question that hopefully I could get answered on the show.

Question - What do you guys think about the new recent pokemon craze? Pokemon diamond and pearl had over 500,000 pre-orders here in america before it came out and sold extremely well. I understand that in japan the game sold 5 million copies by 1 month, and here in america it sold 1 million copies in just 5 days!! What are your reactions to this kind of success for such a long running franchise? does it show that the pokemon franchise is still going strong, or is it because of the name? personally, I grew up with red and blue and I love diamond and pearl and I reall couldn't be anymore pleased with the newest editions to the pokemon universe. thanks for you time and response and keep up the great work on the show.

Hi Guys

Im just interested to get your take on Nintendos purchase of Monolith Soft. Do you see this as a step in the right direction in order for nintendo to to ensure they have developers making games for the Wii or do you think they would be better off trying to provide more incentives for third party devlopers to make something for the Wii?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey CheapyD,

I was wondering how hard in Japanese. I know you are always saying you don't speak great Japanese. Anyways, I am taking it in school next semester here at Southern Illinois University (So Salukis!) and I was wondering if you have any pointers or really just some feedback so I know what to except. I am currently listening to some of the JapanesePod101 podcast from the iTunes music store and it seems to work well.

Keep up the great work on the show and site.

Thanks! Hope to hear my name on the show! :D

Wombat... you had me not at hello, but when you mentioned that you played Sword of Vermillion for Genesis during the Christmas season of 1990... but my question is... do you still have the game and the hint book that came with it?

And just a quick comment... My "hate" for Wombat trading in games to Gamestop is bred from this fact... I had over 140 Sega Genesis games with box and instructions... Sword of Vermillion, Valis III, Mutant League Football, Ghostbusters, Shove It, and tons more... but I traded them for credit to get money for the "new" Panasonic 3DO system back in '93. Worth it, wasn't it?!

What's your thoughts on special effects in comic book movies? For example, do you think the special effects in the Spider-man movies look "better" than the old school films, such as Superman: The Movie? To me, there's no way Spider-man swinging around in CGI looks better than Christopher Reeve chasing rockets over Hackensack, NJ...

To the Wombat:

What's your opinion on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance Hero/Villain DLC? Is it worth the 500 points per pack or 800 for the two packs?
