I like the Shipwreck inclusion into the Cagcast in recent weeks. He adds an air of respectability and I get the feeling he's like the fact checking robot producer during the entire show.
I'm not a believer in the "Cheapy is a 360 whore" theory, because the 360 is obviously the best choice for the majority of the gaming community right now. It has the biggest and best game library so it only makes sense that the majority of news is skewed toward the 360. Never was this more evident than during the "gamer picks" of the year segment of the show. However, I think that you guys are committing a disservice to Wii owners and perhaps alienating an entire segment of potential listeners by virtually ignoring the Wii on a weekly, and now yearly basis.
You should make more of an effort to play Wii games and become a resource for some of your audience that has gaming aged children. We buy Wi games and might be inclined to buy more were they to have your endorsement and associated linkage. Ignoring games because you don't like them or because of the perceived irrelevance of the Wii may be a good reason for 25 year old joe gamer, but not for someone who makes his living off of the videogame market. Shipwreck doesn't even have kids yet and he's played 10 times the number of Wii games that you and Wombat have combined. Remember that your kids aren't going to be playing Gears of War as soon as they're old enough to hold a controller, and they'll be grown up enough for videogames sooner than you realize.
Kids don't tend to be playing video games till they're like 5 or so. So in Cheapy and Wombat's case, their kids won't be playing the Wii cause it'll be 2012/3 by then.
Also, I'm sorry, but a lot of us have fallen off the Wii train by now. We played the crap out of all the wonderful first-party games... but still have fallen off. Personally, I own all the good games. But I never finished SMGalaxy. I didn't give a care about SSB: Brawl (was never introduced to the series). Except for playing Wii sports at my Aunt's house on Christmas, I haven't played or turned on my Wii in around 4 months.
I'm also amazed and repulsed to how Wii is changing video games. How to the long time gamers (you know, hardcore but not no-scoping headshots in Counter Strike) have all been shocked at how the masses of non-gamers (actual non-gamers, like my Aunt, not you) are so ignorant and uninformed of what games really can be.
Like, for instance, in that time I was at my Aunt's house, my Uncle - being the real life golfer that he was, played some Wii Sports golf with another relative. They're both late 30's, early 40's, and they got to a new course in the golf game. If you've ever played the game for a good time it was the level on the cliff. I could hear them audibly going "wow, that looks great" at the course design. I have to agree that conceptually the cliff was nice, but I've seen more amazing things. Then and there I wanted to show them watch "Amazing" scenerly really was. I wanted to sit them down, the uninformed that they are, and show them Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Assassin's Creed, Dead Rising, Prince of Persia, Flower, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Gears of War 2... they were being impressed by a simple cliff level. They had no idea.
I'm glad what Wii is doing for the world, introducing them to games and all. But I hate it for what it's doing to these people. They just don't get it. So a combination of bitter feelings and the fact that I have nothing to play on my Wii leads to my feelings...
Okay okay, this isn't the place to be talking about this, so I'll just leave it at that. In final, Wombat and Cheapy shouldn't have to make attempts to play the Wii. What would be the point of that? If the Wii was as great as some seem to say it is, then they wouldn't need to be forced to play it.
