Interested in what Shipwreck has to say about the PS3 because i bought one a few days ago....and Killzone 2 was one of the main reasons (aswell as some other games).

I believe the actor you spoke with was Mark Sheppard, I knew it just by the number of episodes of Firefly and Battlestar Galactica he acted in. I'm actually a little disappointed that you didn't recognise him, I am a massive Firefly fan.

I meant to post this a week ago, but I am too lazy. Though I was kinda surprised when Wombat said Shipwreck turned the big three-o on Friday 6th February on the show.

Great show this week. Flower is worth the $9.99 for sure. As for the Killzone 2 Demo, I'm surprised that neither Wombat nor Shipwreck just didn't create a European Account to download it without having to resort to Gamestop. I will agree with Wombat that it should be in the US store with no strings attached.
 
YES! Imma have to stream it over 3G on my iphone for the ride home from work though but that's cool! Two hours! I can't wait!!!

You inspired me to make my cat that UK PSN account he's been bugging me about. Demo incoming.
 
I'll have to pass on this episode. I get enough PS3 bashing on gaming news sites.

And complaining about the Gamestop exclusive Killzone 2 demo is more of the same double standards. No one complains about Xbox 360 exclusive demos, do they?
 
Nice yingyang. Killzone 2 looks great but I'll wait for the bargain on this one. Isn't everyone sick and tired of FPSs? If I had a demo to try I'd consider buying it but with a backlog of great games to finish and a busy life, I can wait. Plus SF4 & RE5 are coming out. The Sonic Sega Genesis Collection is great but not much better than the previous Genesis Collection for the ps2, it does have the arcade versions of Altered Beast and Space Harrier. Btw, most console fanboys only own 1 system and have to justify their purchase with irrational arguments.

I have to disagree about the MP being the most important factor in games. I still believe, at least for me, the single player is the deal breaker. Despite one exception (Warhawk), I won't fork over $60 for a game that was obviously MP focused rather than SP focused. I live on a college campus and they block internet gaming, so I spend a great majority of my time playing a single player game. Sure I could do offline MP, which I do here and there but nothing to get my $60 worth.

I would like to believe the main focus of the developers would be the single player campaign. I consider multiplayer as a bonus. For a game like SFIV I would like to see the developer put in a solid MP campaign but at the same time give enough content and modes for the solo player to enjoy as well.

Everyone can play single player, but not everyone can do online multiplayer (money isssues, broadband unavailable in certain areas).
 
Great show overall, good content. my only snag is that i was quite dissapointed that you never got to the "your view on developing the next console" segment that you were gonna do for #150, i was really looking forward to hearing your views and thoughts!

oh well..cant get everything now can ya ;)

Good show guys. I think everyone should experience flower as well. It's short but it's quality.
 
Another awesome cagcast guys! I like how Cheapy busted capcoms head on the Street Fighter "selling out" in Japan, it shows just how powerful his "space pimp status" is. Also I am excited to here about a new Cagforplay coming this week...yay!
 
dammit i could of picked up street fighter IV today but i was £10 off >.> LOOOL im going deffo back tommorow tho to get that damn game CANT WAIT!
 
Thanx Cheapy for your critique of the Street Fighter IV problems.

I've been playing the game and I have to wholeheartedly agree that the music to the game is pretty much shameful and the current state of the online battling is without a doubt a disaster.

I have absolutely no idea how none of the 'major review sites' that I've looked at are calling out the online as being an absolute dud.
No 'rematch', wtf?
No 'proper lobby', wtf?
The saving! What the heck is going on? Why it takes so long and why it isn't simply done 'in the background' I'll never know.
And my biggest gripe. . . NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY VS. SOMEONE ON YOUR FRIEND'S LIST.

Thanx cheapy, wombat and shipwreck for another great CAGcast!
 
Hey, Cheapy, wombat, and special guest star ship. really enjoyed #150, I found your comments, opinions, and criticisms this show especially well considered and presented(thats not to say theyve never been before, though over the last dozen shows or so, you seemed a little burned out....perhaps even hateful, which always brings out some interesting forum threads, though makes for a depressing show)I especially appreciated cheapys insight on streetfighter IV's shortcomings, definately not a deal breaker, but it was certainly informative and worth noting these issues admid the overwhelmingly positive praise we've been hearing eveywhere else.
 
I know this has been mentioned before, but I also wanted to add that having shipwreck as a third host really enhances the show and he should be a permanent addition. Thats not a sleight against the dynamic duo, please dont take it that way. I love cheapy and wombat, your chemistry has always been standout among the gaming podcasts, but having ship join is like adding the cheese to the cagcast cincinnati chili.
 
Cheapy, seriously man, stop burping during the CAGcast. At least try to subdue it a bit. I can practically smell your Egg McMuffin through my iPod.

A) I'm glad to hear Wombat is gettin' his Dead Space groove on! I think that game is completely revolutionary as an over-the-shoulder shooter, and the story is also top-notch. (I put the movie on my Netflix queue yesterday.) Dead Space suffered from coming out between Fallout 3 and Fable II - if it had come out a month away on either side, I think it'd have done miles and miles better. CheapyD and Shipwreck (and anyone else who doesn't own it), go buy this one so EA knows to make Dead Space 2!

B) Regarding the Playboy DVD buyer - well hey, sometimes Internet service gets interrupted. Or the guy just moved in and it wasn't set up yet. Or his computer crashed or something.

Hey Wombeezy. I just wanted to let you know, Gamestop is doing the "exclusive demo with preorder" deal with Resistance: Retribution as well. It kinda makes me sick that this might become a repeating precedent...
 
This is the first podcast I have listened to. Yes I have been living under a rock for the last few years, but I enjoyed listening while I worked today. Looks like I'll be tuning in more often in the future! Thanks Cheapy, Wombat, and Shipwreck!
 
A note on Deathtank. The game cannot be compared to Worms, Scorched Earth, Gunbound, or Pocket Tanks since it's in real time. The gameplay is completely hectic when you get 5 or more players together and really fun. Shipwreck made it sound really bad by saying that you enter coordinates, but really you just have an arrow above your tank. Point it in the direction you want to fire and adjust the length for velocity, all done with the left stick.

Snowblind did an excellent job remaking this game for XBLA. I am a huge fan of Death Tank Zwei which was a hidden game on Duke Nukem 3D for Saturn. My friends and I still play it to this day. I feel cheated that the game costs $15 though because nobody will buy it and there won't be anybody to play with online.
 
Hey Guys Great show but Why are the Shipwrecks not posted a show since the 19th of January?Also Wombat I would love to win your copy of Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.I being a new stay at home dad and well had to sacrifice buying games big time unless they are way under cost.But anyway I would like to say I have a decent game that is not from a gamefly account...lmao

Excellent show guys! I'm glad to hear Shipwreck was there, even if he didn't speak too much.

Not really much else to say, only that it was very entertaining as usual, and I'm looking forward for the next show! The CAGcast might be late, but it always delivers ;).
 
Wombat's artery-strangling outrage over the idiocy behind the KZ2 demo/preorder thang is something I share. I find it boggling from a marketing perspective. But I didn't get bent about it, and (I noticed Wombat was suspiciously silent following this comment), like Cheapy, spent a whopping 3 minutes to make a UK account and downloaded the demo.

And the whole Left 4 Dead - PS3 money going to marketing theory is pretty fascinating, since it relies on the assumption that all PS3 releases are not profitable to publishers, as well as overlooks (intentionally?) the idea that Valve has been quite outspoken in their disdain for the PS3 itself (meaning that they aren't codeveloping two console versions of the game, just like EA had to outsource porting of Orange Box, which adds a whole new layer of dynamics and development costs to this particular title that is simply not the case for most other multiplatform titles).

I mean, I know you think it's adorable to try to raise the ire of "PS3 fanboys." But please stick to facts plausible to the real world when doing so. Hackneyed, not-good-enough-to-be-half-baked theories are the realm of...well, podcasts are suitable outlets for opinionated, uninformed schmucks, so I guess I can't complain. You're in the right place.
 
I know it causes all sorts of Skype problems, but its great to have Shipwreck on the shop. Thanks for including him for the 150th episode.
 
I thought the podcast was great, I like the addition of Shipwreck. I agree with the sentiment about the Killzone 2 demo, why in the heck would you require pre-order of a game to play the demo? Hurray for Valve for getting Microsoft to agree to the free L4D content.
 
Wow, no CagCast or Foreplay for 2 weeks and we get a virtual gloss-over new releases for the Wii from Shipwreck? I'm disappointed. I expect that from Cheapy, but not from the game guru.

No Deadly creatures, no House of the Dead Overkill, Ultimate Shooting Collection, or Rygar? At least Wombat, who just happened to be in an enclosed space where there were some unavoidable Wii games, remembered to report on something for that little white box no one likes.
 
Good show, but it didn't really feel like a "150" show. You didn't really discuss the past all that much until the Cagbag

It's not necessarily a "not profitable" issue but a less profitable scenario where it makes more since on some projects to allocate those funds to advertising, promotions and free DLC to increase the profitability of a larger release demographic.

Whereas L4D has huge draws for the stereotypical 360 gamer (FPS, largely a cooperative /multilayer experience) it seems to make sense (Gabe Newell's and other coders disdain for the PS3 acknowledged, but aside).

The classic example of mitigating loss/ reassigning funds is the movie theater: During the week days you would think it would make more sense to close than run matinees. However, if you consider that the refrigerators are running for the food, the HVAC has to run because it takes to long for them to control the temperature because they have to condition such a huge volume of air, rent is paid opened or closed . . . it makes more since to stay open and lose some money versus stay closed and lose a marked amount more.

I am not saying I endorse this business practice but it is a proven method in certain situations; Add the possibility of milking the deep MS teet for an exclusive bonus (to mitigate dev. cost) and it is even more understandable.
