CAGcast #191: Motion Fighters

I, for one, have no complaints about any of you guys. You all make me laugh and still keep it informative - a classy mix, like a gin and tonic. Wombat is funny, if perhaps corny, lol :) I especially liked his quick pull with the Sisyphus reference when you guys were talking about Motion Fighter or whatever that goofy crap was called. Also, good call on the Just Cause 2 demo, I had played it last night and really enjoyed tearing around the island and causing mayhem :)

I enjoyed this show much more than the last 2. Wombat wasn't as full of himself this time around.

As usual loved Cheapy and Ship.

This may not fit here, but I think that you guys should rate games out of five. Either like the old hustler style boners (flacid, soft, hard, two hard ons, or three hard ons), but instead of a penis, make it a little Atari type black CX-40 joystick. Seriously, did anyone see that penis rating system hustler had for movies?

Or make it six pointed stars, similarly scored out of 5 stars.

As much as CheapyD bashed the playstation move, I still look forward to his impressions of it when it comes out in the fall.

and what's with all the Wombat hate?

With regards to Natal and PS Move discussion recently on the show, it has occurred to me what we see happening here, and it is no different from what was happening with Atari 2600 and Intellivision around 30 years ago.
We have Atari who release something new and innovative with the 2600. Then they go make tonnes of money out of a market which previously didn’t exist. So other companies see this as a money making scheme. Activision decided to make games for the system. Whereas Mattel thought they could emulate the success Atari had be producing the Intellivision. The machine was rated highly by critics and sold in the hundreds of thousands.
So now you’re wondering how this relates. Well, consider Nintendo Wii to be the Atari 2600 of the 21st Century being new and innovative, and Microsoft and Sony are looking to take a slice of the cake. The critics have been giving some high praise to Natal and Move, and they will most likely sell in the hundreds of thousands.
The thing is, what we see happening here in the video games industry, I don’t think it is directly aimed at us, the as gamers. It applies more to those who have PS3 or 360 already and want to experience the same entertainment and fun people get from the Wii. I would also go as far to say that this is what people have been waiting for, for the PS3 or 360 so that they can have an all in one machine. Features such as video playback whether it be DVD, Blu Ray and digital file, internet access which is clearer and you can use a mouse if you want and ultimately video gaming (with great graphics)
In summary Move and Natal are concepts designed to take a slice of Nintendo’s cake, I don’t think these devices are aimed at gamers.

Personally, I think both ideas are bollocks and would not buy either.

The show was great, keep up the great work.

The large The Beatles: Rock Band bundle purchase seemed to only get a mention when it arrived and nothing after that, so it's good that Tai likes it a lot to make that a decent purchase.

You don't need to have all three of you to do an extended segment, but at least two would be ideal to be able to have some conversation about a game. That would allow more games to be up for discussion and not make this a very rare segment like interviews.

I liked the way that God of War 3's story handles Kratos as a character and his continued desire for vengeance against Zeus and the other gods.

Sega gets a lot of sales in Japan, especially for stuff like Yakuza 3, so their performance over here isn't necessary. It does make me wonder why they bother bringing games like Yakuza 3 over while constantly acting like a kid that hates cleaning his room and just does a sloppy job that's barely acceptable. Companies like XSeed, Atlus, or Ignition would jump all over a game like Yakuza 3 and be more likely to treat the game and its audience with some respect by keeping the content in there.

The Blur beta was kind of awful, mostly because of the bad servers that constantly kicked me off of Live and the lobbies that are rarely full. I've had my rankings reset a few times and makes it annoying to be starting back from square one just as I start to get used to the higher level privileges. The game itself is an okay racing game and didn't really do anything to wow me like Split/Second, which is a shame since I loved the PGR games. I especially don't care for the MW2-style multiplayer structure that hides the modes behind the rankings, which leaves the first two generic race modes to play at first. I'd have loved to have another PGR-style game since they were arcadey enough to not be able to be described as a sim, but the cars still handled like you'd expect.

Good show.

This was the first one of your guys' podcasts I listened to, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I laughed quite a lot. I think you have yourself a new listener.

I have Time Warner cable for internet and I get 30 mb/s which is surprising. I don't know wtf is going on but I used to get like 5 mb/s from them not too long ago..weird.

The first person to shove a Move in their ass "contest" is going to result in a CheapyD inbox filled with unintentional gay porn. It'll also result in a bunch of "you're doing it wrong" motivational posters.

Kudos on having Boat on all the time now.

Still a great show and I look forward to it every week!

I still dig Wombat, "Sisyphus the Game" was pure gold! From one Stuart to another, never change Wombat! You keep those other two in check.

Jeez, give away a $60 prize and the comments explode!

Good show guys. Cheapy, I think you should at least try the BioShock MP. It's not as refined as something like CoD or Battlefield, but it is FUN.

And regarding PS Move... I think Sony should have withheld the Socom announcement and just waited until GDC to reveal it with the controller. I mean it was only like a week later. I think it would have created a lot more buzz, especially since most of the other software looks like crap.

Gotta say, I never used to like the three man team on the show. But now it finally seems like Shipwreck is coming out of his shell and showing more personality and jokes. Great show guys

Great show as always! I forget if it was this episode or the last when you guys were talking about King's Quest and how it's not a single universe but just a bunch of different stories with the heading KQ (like Final Fantasy). Actually most of the KQ series revolves around the same character/lineage so there is definitely some continuity to the series.

Also great continued Simpsons references

I think the Wombat detractors need to get a clue. The CAGcast clearly would not have the fun without him, Cheapy or Boatcrash (that is the best name ever).

The chemistry is there, the good information is there and I look forward to the show each week. If you want irritating, obnoxious and "ostensibly" overbearing podcast hosts, listen to the Joystiq gang.

This show is great as always.

Cheapy,
I had a buddy in college that had a similar issue with his speakers. To fix the issue he wrapped the speaker cable near the speaker around a "Toroidal Core" (a circular magnet).
Here is a link to a radioshack to give you an idea of cost:

Here is some information on the topic (around page 4, I mostly just added this for the pictures...):

Hope this helps, and great show as always...

Great show guys.

I like the name PlayStation Bowel Movement. Hilarious.

And kudos to Wombat for sticking up for his opinions. So what if he doesn't like Chime? Not all gamers will have the same tastes in games. When will everyone learn that?

I think that the playstation move and all of that stuff will need a final actual hands-on version before deciding how horrible or good it is, but I heard SOCOM 4 was actually quite good form people that went to GDC

Really great show this week! You know, we always hear about super programmer John but never hear from him. I'd love to hear him on the show once in a while when a big change is coming to talk about the specific features etc...

Thanks womdship!

I have just heard the first piece of distasteful CAGcast, or even podcasting altogether, in all these years of listening. Cheapy's comment on the need for long arms on Wombat's reach around towards the Bombcast members is odious. If Brian's email concerning the ownership of Giantbomb doesn't make you "look like an asshole" this does.

I don't fully understand. Giant Bomb has terrible taste in games, yet Shipwreck loves Divinity II.

Something just does not add up.

Another great show of laughs with a side of wisdom. Regarding the Move (or BM), I hope these motion controls don't become the standard, because even though I like the Wii, there's a reason I don't play it as much (aside from the lack luster games), at times I just don't want to sit up and use motion controls. Beside half the games they showed look like prettier versions of Wii Sports games.

Here's an idea:
Rather than have music or something at the beginning of the show, maybe we could have Cheapy doing some DJ-ing or something. That'd be interesting.

I especially liked hearing about Cheapy mooning the radio tower, that was great, haha.

Great show, guys. The jokes were kinda corny, but I laughed my ass off, so that's all that matters. I've been listening to the CAGcast since November, and I really enjoy how you just say what's on your minds. I do not follow any kind of gaming news regularly, or read any gaming blogs since I find them boring, so it's nice to see how you have a nice balance of gaming news and your comments on any particular subject, which keeps things interesting, at least for me. Maybe I'm too "casual", but I can't stand that "holier-than-thou" attitude of some of the most mouth-breathing basement dwellers who seem to flood most gaming message boards and blogs, so it's nice to listen to regular people talking about stuff they enjoy (or stuff they hate) without being pretentious or snobby.

I have to agree with you guys on how worthless the Sony "Move" thing sounds. I don't own a PS3, so I may not be entitled to have an opinion on it, but still, I don't think PS3 users need a "new" peripheral that enables them to play shitty minigames. Sure, you will be alble to play the new Socom game with it, but I guess we'll have to wait and see how that kind of motion control will be implemented and how it will improve the overall gameplay experience. It's kinda sad to imagine how E3 will turn out this year, will all the attention geared towards Shitbox and Sony BM, because it will definitely affect some of the less hyped games that may show up on the event that could be as good (or better) as any of the big games featured during that weekend.

Keep up the good work, and fuck all the Jeff Albertson clones that complain about and misinterpret everything you say on the show.

P.S. There is no such thing as "too much" when it comes to poop/sex jokes and puns.

Unless you're quoting something from The Office, which is ridiculously lame and overused.

Hi guys i have been listening to the podcast for a while since before you got kids .Now i am about to have my first :)
Keep up the good work even though i not always agree with your opinions i enjoy listening but ship...you are the one with the terrible taste in gaming...REALLY :D

You guys have a nice day

PS English as you probably noticed is not my first language.

Finally XBL is being nice to us gays.
Im a tiny bit intrested in PS Move. But all depends on how they implent it in games

Sorry Cheapy about the lack of english in my question from the cagbag, english is my fourth language. Otherwise regarding the podcast this one was good, although I kind of got lost in the middle when after an hour in you started to talk about Sony. For round table discussion could you guys possibly do one, like one every couple or months, or once a month if it is not to much to ask. I do believe with project shitbox and whatever you want to call the PS3 crap, there main attention is to get little kids involved in buying their products. The Wii since it has been out has been directed more toward family and the PS3 and 360 are trying to cut into that piece of the pie.

Question for Shipwreck with your reviews of ME2 and GOW3 both getting outstanding ratings, what game if any do you remember giving the lowest grade possible were you told people to avoid at all cost.

Nice show Cheapy and crew, I have to say I think that Sega will continue to bring over mainstream games to the U.S. Who knows maybe Yakuza 4 won't be brought over.

Im not interested in the Move or the Natal (project shit box), its just gimmicks to try to get a piece of the market

I see the comedy was brought in this episode, which is mostly all I care about.

The worst part of all these lame names that companies throw out: there is some group of high ranking people sitting around a nicely appointed office munching on fresh croissants and drinking Perrier all congratulating the random suit who came up with the name "Move". And boy did that name test well with that soccer-mom market they have been trying to target. I can picture those executives' dreams of inordinate bonuses and first-class fare to all the conventions and talk-shows.

I'm slightly humored and worried of Cheapy purposefully baring anus towards the visitors of the tower.

I enjoyed the show. I think I'd prefer if you moved the game talk to the beginning of the show and the personal stuff to the end, but maybe that's just me.

Good show as always.

You know, Wombat, if the only reason you're not getting the Sony Move (the Sony vibrator?) is because it runs on batteries, you should really look at the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. They consistently get very high ratings on sites like Engadget and such: http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-277265-...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268526135&sr=8-3 (and as far as the Wiimotes go, why aren't you using the Nyko charging station?!).

There are an insane number of comments on this thread, even more than last time you offered free things for posting. ;)

I am interested in the PS Move. I think that it has potential, to add a few more consumers to Playstation. Now for gamers like us we will have to see if a game goes beyond the Party or Tech demo level and can capture us.

That would be something. When was the last time Cheapy DJed? We may hear some 90's dance and pop. That would be funny.

By the way, its been confirmed that both Move controllers use a built-in rechargeable battery a la Dualshock 3.

But since the Nubchuck is wireless, people will get twice the Wrist Strap action

I was trying to think of ways that the Move could be cool, and all I could come up with was an FPS with independent character movement, look and gun tracking (the ball on top, extra thumbstick on it). I looked up some pics on the internet and... what is that thumb button?
