CAGcast #95: Baby On Board
I wondered why I didn't hear them.

How does that work? Did you make a U.S. and non U.S. version of the show?

Does that mean you won't hear them either, since you live in Japan?

(Hilarious!)
The ads are inserted by our podcast host, but only to those who have USA IP address.

Yes, I haven't heard them in the show.

Great show as always Cheapy and Wombat. I have no problems with the ads since I know where the fast forward button is on my iPod. As a Navy veteran, I believe that there are a few misconceptions that should be debunked:

1. Don't join the Navy to blow "shit" up. It most likely won't happen unless you leave a hot dog in the microwave too long or eat the eggs from the ship's mess in the morning. You'll be blowing up, yo.

2. While joining the Navy is a huge committment, you really are not signing your life away. There are some great benefits to joining the Navy while you are in and after you leave. Also, once you get past basic training, there is a lot of fun to be had, and chicks dig the uniform. Seriously, I was surprised too.

3. Don't believe anything a recruiter tells you. Do the research.

4. You don't have to be able to swim to join the Navy, but you probably want to learn before you go to basic training.

5. You will never meet the Arbiter.

Ask Major Nelson:

Why doesn't LIVE have moderators to help support the Rep, feedback, & Complaint system?

IMO, since the service is on a pay basis & the feedback system is just useless you should be able to have a mod spectate games & pose as regular LIVE online players to help keep the cursing, name calling, & etc down.

Wombat; keep the Wii version, as Katie Couric said you get to stab people with axes. Since I usually HACK them and not STAB them with an axe, I'd like the PS2 version, where you 'merely press buttons'.

I'm 34 years young, wiki, wiki!

How does that work? Is that a requirement of the Navy?

The CAGCast is free and two hours long worth of pretty damn good entertainment while I'm working. I can deal with the Arbitor for a minute and ½ total, it's not that bad. Thanks for another great CAGCast guys :D

...STFU! Whats the big deal? I mean shit if the ads were three 90 sec spots then fine gripe away...but tiny 30 sec spots? Please! I co-host a tiny run of the mill podcast and if we got offered to have ads we would NOT have a problem...at all. As long as they were short ads. Keep up the good work Cheapy!

P.S. I cried when my daughter was born 10 years ago. I think it makes you a even better man than you ever were to admit that, not to mention having a child to raise, and take care of makes you a better human being all together.

The whole pregnancy skit was brilliant Cheapy. You had me rolling so hard at work that everyone around me was giving me a WTF look. The whole "Maybe I just pissed myself" got me started and I completely broke down with the porno in the hospital.

Though it obviously comes from a true story, do you plan this as a skit so you know exactly how to set up the story or is this just coming naturally through the course of the conversation? The delivery was perfect. I didn't think anything would come close to the story of you needing to take a dump before your AOTS appearance but this was definitely a close second.

Regarding the blocked words on Xbox live. I was attempting to set my gamer motto to the brilliant line from the simpsons: "Go Banana!" Apparantly the script blocks "Banana!". You can put it in without the exclamation, and you can use the exclamation for many other words but don't you even think about combining "Banana" with an exclamation you filthy bastards.

Great show guys. The "Kick you in the balls" comment made me laugh hysterically. Sorry about that. Hey, if your friends can't be honest with you then no one will be. ;)

Oh, one more thing. I think the CAGcast audience actually would have preferred to hear Major's canned "That's certainly something we are looking into" response. We all know such responses are a smoke screen. That gives us more of a reason to be bitter towards MS and the Major rather than Wombat and Cheapy for not representing the community's cumulative voice. :)

I too am going to complain about the ads. I have no problem with advertising and sponsorship of the CAGcast. In fact Foreplay's sponsorship is respectable, impressive and effective.

My gripe comes from the fact that it is the Navy. They don't belong in the CAGcast and if you think them sponsoring the CAGcast will lead to future and better endorsements, think again. The Navy would sponsor anything if it thought it might lead to 1 new recruit, they are a bottom feeder advertiser who would buy time anywhere that will offer it. If you want a spring board to better industry advertisers, selling time to the Navy is not the way to do it. The Navy thinks they will get recruits or they wouldn't have paid for the ads, so they must have had success with similar ad campaigns in the past. It pisses me off that you would help them exploit your listeners.

I refuse to do business with credit card companies that target students with "incentives" that virtually assure they will be owned by the credit card company for years after college. The fact that Citibank handles most student loans, then offers those clients a credit card that gives bonuses when used at electronics outlets and specific products like iPods and TVs pisses me off.

There is advertising then there exploitation, guess where I think the Navy ads fall.

Agreed 100%.

I have no problem with the Navy's ads, your gripe about the Navy sponsoring only because they think they can get new recruits, makes absolutely no sense. All advertisers have the same goal, to get you interested in their product, service, opportunity, etc. it is up to the listener to decide if it's right for them. Cheapy and Wombat don't have to take heat for not baby sitting CAG'S and keeping them away from the big bad Navy.

There's some truth in what you say, but I also think you're letting Cheapy and Wombat off the hook too easily. By your logic, they could accept ads from NAMBLA or the KKK (not that I'm equating the Navy with those organizations) and then throw up their hands and say, "Hey, it was a business decision. The listeners can make up their own minds about whether this is right or wrong!"

How pathetic would that sound?

You are right, I left that too wide open, I didn't mean that they can just put anything on that they want and it's up to us to like it or not not. What I meant was that it's up to the listener to weed through the b.s. that the military promises in it's ads.
