CAGLB - MLB 08 Online League - Congrats to BasketCase1080, CAGLB Champion!
I played my first game tonight against a friend and it was laggy as hell. Anyone else having lag problems? It was so slow. I play other games with no problems so I was kind of taken back by this. Maybe I'll try another game with an other person.

Thanks for the link Tanooki.
It's a bit laggy for me as well. Sometimes it sucks to have it lag, especially if you got a close game going. Anyway, I can't wait for the league to start! I'm sure as hell excited.

I played my first online game tonight and it was laggy as heck! It was barely playable. Somehow I was able to hit HR's with Ludwick and Ankiel and win 4-0. I threw 13K's and my opponent threw 14K's.

Changing the display setting to 720p will not be an option for me for another month as the TV I'm currently playing on is 1080i only. Will all my online games with MLB be like this? I have no lag problems at all with anything on the 360.

The first online game I played was laggy as hell, but the second one was fine. I changed some settings on my router like the DMZ and some other stuff in between my first and second game. I'm not for sure if that improved the online gaming or if I just played with someone who had a great connection.

Turning fast play on has been a godsend in my games as far as lag is concerned. Fast play basically just turns off all the cutscenes. I played someone I know from another forum twice. Game 1-pretty laggy. Game 2- He didn't have time for a full one, so we played a 7 inning game with fast play on, zero lag.

Kind of makes me nervous to hear that I'm not the only one having these issues. I'm going to have to give this another try tonight.

BTW, MSU I was surprised how badly you wanted the Cardinal's considering out current line up. I'm from STL as well and I don't hold out much hope for this year. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Well I always want STL teams (minus the Rams) if they're available. I took the Blues into the semifinals of the CAG NHL 2K7 league on 360, plus if we have access to the AAA rosters I can move Carpenter up and have a front 3 of Carpenter, Wainright, and Mulder in the league. If someone can't live without being the Cardinals, I do have a 2nd choice team I could be.

Yeah in real life we'll be lucky to be 3rd but the Cardinals aren't bad in this game. I beat someone online 4-0 when he was the Red Sox. Isturis is much better on the game than IRL and can get some stolen bases, Ankiel, Duncan, and Ludwick can rake, then you have Pujols and Glaus so the front 6 in the lineup are pretty good.

anyone know it the play style is similar to the mlb 2k leagues where you play your games whenever you and your oponent setup a date/time? Or is it simply one game per week? Also, if this gets under way I hope my oponent wants to play tonight anytime, lol.
Also, if this gets under way I hope my oponent wants to play tonight anytime, lol.
Since he is going person to person for teams, I highly doubt it gets started tonight. However if it does, I would like to get an opening day game in.

We've run into a bit of a snag. I had the league set-up, all the options picked out, and went to create it when it gave me a message. Apparently, I need to have played ten games before I can create a league. #-o Anybody want to help me out by boosting through a bunch of 1 inning games?

just let me know... ill be up till about 4am and all i really have to do is finish a thesis, so I should have a free moment or two to help.

If anyone has dropped or if there is some sort of a waiting list or something, I would like to join the league--I didn't earlier because my internet wasn't working at the time. If you're keeping a list of alternates, look for me. Thanks

(psn: mrlogical)

Thanks to the TheRock for stepping up and I'll get to you runpuddrun (or however your name's spelled) in a bit.

I sent out friend invites to everyone in the league, if you're wondering what that was, but ivanctorres and BasketCase, your PSN names weren't working for me, so feel free to send me friend invites instead.
Strange. The 1 inning games aren't showing up, so I may try the 9 inning games and see how it goes.
Maybe they have to be ranked games.

Were the games laggy for you Frisky? Sometimes I was pitching and I couldnt even see the meter.

Yeah, maybe 1/10 worked for me. They're working for this guy I'm playing though.

Edit:  Furcal just threw his bat into the stands, unintentionally.

Edit 2: He quit. :whistle2:(
It's okay. Hopefully that's not a problem when we face off in the league.
Weird. I had played over 20 games without a problem and now that's two in a row. I just tried connecting to a friend and couldn't.

I'm going to reset my network later tonight and see if that fixes it. Sorry though. I'll get it cleaned up by gametime though.

I like that you can send PSN friend requests from the in-game buddy list. More games need to do that if they're not using the XMB friends list.

My second game was progressively more laggy as the game went on. Third game's going well, lag-wise, right now.

I had a couple of online games with a friend of mine from another country. At first, it was very laggy. But lately, it hasn't been as laggy as before. Most of the time it's been lag-free.

The league hasn't been created yet since there was another limit to creating leagues, so I'm trying to get that fixed today and get it created later today.

how close are you to your ten games in? What are the chances of it gettin goin today, slim?

Alright, finished up the last few games and we are ready to move to the next step. I've created the league and if you've got your team picked, you should have invites waiting for you when you head online today, so please accept those ASAP.

I've added the team draft list right now, so if you're still waiting and want to speed up the process, feel free to send me a list of what seven remaining teams you'd like since there are still seven people left to pick their teams.

Joining right now. I see there's 2 divisions. Does it matter which one we join?

Also added everyone from the league to my friends list.

*edit*
Joined the Wombat division

I'm trying to join the league using the online SportsConnect website and it's not working. It'll probably be Thursday night before I'll be able to go to my mom's house and log online with my PS3.

Are we allowed to start the same pitcher in every game in this or does the league know who you used and takes away fatigue?

Hey all, anyone that tried to add me to their buddy lists please try to re-add... i had the wrong PSN name and now its right. Killsbury.

I just tried to go to that website link to join the league and it gave me the same error when I tried to pick my team. Also, I am a huge noob at baseball games, so you might have to remind me to make sure I use different pitchers, and remind me how to dive for balls, lol.
http://mlb08ps3html-prod.sc.online.scea.com/MLB08/main.php

Someone else try logging into your sportsconnect online and see if it'll let you join the league. I got the invite and when I try to choose my team it gives me an error message.

As for pitchers, I think we should have to go through the rotation.
Have you tried getting on the game and doing it that way? I have no problems getting on the game and doing it.

On another subject-I'd like to see the full rotation used, but I'm not really sure of a good system for regulating it.

You should know what # game it is for your opponent and that should coincide with their pitcher... if you are playing a team in his 3rd game he should be using his 3rd starter if we are going to play it this way.

15 game schedule means every starter starts 3 times.

in a playoff scenario, once a series ends, the next series you should be able to restart on top.
Hey Frisky, I didn't get the league invite yet. Just giving you a heads up.
I know. Read the post I made on the invites for more info on that front.

Hey guys, I won't be able to activate or accept any invites until I get home from work tonight. I haven't been home in a couple days as I stayed at the woman's house last night. I'll get in there and validate everything this evening tho. Looking forward to it.

The problem with that system is that I could be starting my #5 starter against someone's #1 if that person has played a different number of total games. Will it just give us a schedule and we play games when we can or what? If everyone has to go at the same pace(i.e. date on the schedule) then your suggestion would work. However, if we can play at different paces then this would be problematic.

I don't believe the game lets you play more than one game a week if that's how the league is set-up, which is what we're doing here. I doubt that you're going to be able to play through your entire schedule in less than a week to wait another 14 weeks for everyone else to catch.

I haven't tried getting on using my PS3 yet. I'm not able to get high speed internet at the place I live at, so I have to take my PS3 to my mom's house in order to get online with it. The bad thing is that I go to school everyday of the week and work on the weekends, so I was hoping I would be able to join the league using the website.

I'll still join the league, but I won't be able to get on my PS3 until tomorrow night after 8:00 PM CST.

For the pitchers, we should each make a post with our rotation and keep track of which games they pitched in. It'll be a good way for everyone to know which pitcher they'll be facing ahead of time.

Here is my idea for the pitching. Each team can post their pitching rotation. We could either go by the default in game order, or we can all come up with our own 5 man rotation. For example, mine could look like this:

Carlos Zambrano
Ted Lilly
Rich Hill
Jason Marquis
Ryan Dempster

Then if we only play one game per week, all we would have to do is write our rotation and then write in the weeks they'll be starting. Then FriskyTanuki could post the rotations in the OP.

Pitching rotation with weeks they will start:

Carlos Zambrano - weeks 1, 6, 11
Ted Lilly - weeks 2, 7,12
Rich Hill - weeks 3, 8, 13
Jason Marquis - weeks 4, 9, 14
Ryan Dempster - weeks 5, 10, 15

I'm not for sure how many weeks we are doing this for, but I think this would be a fair way to do it.

Dempster is back to starting? yikes!...

seems like a fair way for sure.

Great idea. Then we can also check that our opponent is using the right person as well.

BTW, I hope if we play I get a piece of the Dumpster(Dempster).

Haha, we'll see about that. I'm not for sure if I'm going to put him in as a starter just yet. I may throw Lieber or Marshall in instead.

I was mainly just using that pitching rotation just as an example.
