CAGLS: Madden 13 Gentlemen's League - We Finished! Thanks for Playing!
You might be better off waiting until after the season. The cap hit will be less and you might have more room to absorb the hit.
This would probably be your best option.

by the math i just did the cowboys would actually almost double the cap space they have now by doing that trade
I see what you mean there. I'll tell you know. I'm not as good as Doo Mane was nor would I be a dick and just quit for no apparent reason. I mean, if we could do something like that it would be appreciated.

Because as you saw, yes, I was trying to get out of Austin's contract. I'm ok with taking a hit now just to get some more cap space later on.

Is there a way this could be worked out? Like I lose a 4th round pick for going over the cap?
Yeah, what jza and Blade said is pretty accurate. For reference, this is the NFL's stance on going over the cap.

Penalties

 • If a team goes over the salary cap, it must forfeit a contract or restructure contracts to assure the player is under the salary cap.

Non-Abiding Teams

 • For teams that do not abide by the salary cap, not only will they be forced to forfeit the contracts of some players, but also to forfeit games. The NFL Commissioner has the final say in the punishment.
So, the only option you would have is cutting players...but you also still need 53 players. Personally, I don't think it would be fair to allow a team to be over the cap. The only reason nothing has been done with Carolina (though I really haven't even looked at their situation since they've been on autopilot...I guess I just hoped the CPU would fix it, lol) is because no one has even considered taking them.

At the end of the day, we're all dealing with the same salary cap, and these are things that have to be considered when signing or trading players. It's a limitation...but a very realistic one. For me personally, I haven't traded or cut anybody who had a substantial bonus because I didn't want to be buried with cap penalties. You just have to work within your means.
Wow saints made out on that one IMO good trade addressing two positions
Part of me thinks this is bad news for my division, but at the same time I couldnt stop Sproles to save my life when I played him last year. SO maybe its a blessing in disguise

I am hoping to turn Wilson into Sproles v2 with time ;)

Pretty excited to add Cruz to my WR corps. Beisdes Colston - my other wide outs aren't too impressive.

We dont play till week 14, I'm excited to see how our matchups will go. I feel like I've improved since our late-season matchup last year and we both have had personnel changes.

It will be a fun game! I remember having fun with our last game.

I have made a few scheme changes that I am hoping will pay off - but time will tell.

Also, I remember doc saying that the Giants / Texans trade had been resubmitted, but I don't think I ever got it. Send that one in again if you can.
kaster?
Seriously? An open discussion about a trade you're not involved in and whether or not it's possible within the confines of the salary cap is something you think you need your personal commissioner for? All righty then...

Although, now actually looking at the contracts, it appears the numbers reported were inaccurate. I'm only seeing Spikes having a $1.94M salary for the final year of his deal. This is why I PM'd ballinhun8 to ask if the totals given were for the remaining years and amounts on the deal or the total deal amounts. This is extra garbage legwork that we shouldn't have to be doing here.

But since I've got most of it done already, this is what I was talking about.

Austin - 2013 salary - $7.6M
Austin - cap penalty - $4M

Clears $3.6M against 2013 cap

Floyd - 2013 salary - $1.09M
Spikes - 2013 salary - $1.94M

New 2013 salary coming in - $3.03M

So, based on that, they'd be fine. Would have been nice to have correct numbers to begin with though. From now on, individual year salaries need to be listed in trade proposals. I'm not going to trust anybody to be able to add.

i asked an open question the to committee about my trade and u felt the need to do that to me. u could have simply said nothing or given me then info if u knowingly had it. i offered a an apology to u in this thread and not once did u even feel the need to respond to that. but u felt the need earlier the be rude a call upon kaster to try and make some type of statement by doing that.

Yeah, DVO, I'm just going to post your PM to me in here.
cowboys current cap space 3.23mil

austins contract 7 years total 4 years remaining bonus 7 mill
2013-7.60mil
the other years dont matter other than the bonus money everything else goes to the pats. but the 2013 matters becuz that effects the cowboys current cap space.

bonus money 7/7=1*4years remaining =4/2=2
thats leaves us with 2 mill cap pen in 2013 and 2014
7.6-2=5.6money saved from trade 5.6 + 3.23 mil = 8.83 mil cap space

so then we go to floyds contract
2013-1.09 mil
8.83mil - 1.09 = 7.74 mil cowboys cap space

spikes contract in 2013
1.94mil

7.74mil - 1.94 = 5.8 mil cowboys cap space 2013

before trade 3.23
after trade 5.8 mil (thats even without taking out the tiny bonus spikes contract not going to the cowboys which is somewhere around the range 300k so cowboys cap space being around the range of 5.8 to about 6.1
I've bolded the one part that I didn't follow. If the remaining bonus is 7 million over four years, shouldn't it be 1.75 million over the next four years, not 2 million over the next two?
Jza can you resubmit it for us?
I forgot was it a second or third? I didn't get the resubmission email so I don't recall.

I hate this game. I can't play Ty Warren because he's hurt. I can't cut him because he's hurt. The problem is, he's permanently glitched, and will be eternally injured. I am going to have to pay him a ton of money because I can't cut him. Madden sucks.

thats not remaining bonus thats the total bonus he signed for in the start of the contract so 3 mill of the 7 has been paid. so that leaves 4 mill with 4 years left. since the cap pen will spilt over 2 years 14 and 15 its 2 mill. each

when u sign players to contracts u will notice that when u move the bonus its a straight line across the board. where the none bonus money gets spread out and gets paid more as the years go bonus stays the same. if u dont understand still i can try and figure out a simpler way to describe it

Ask bvharris what he did about it in the other league?
Ask bvharris what he did about it in the other league?
His contract ran out. I resigned him in this league without knowing about the glitch to a 5-yr deal. (In mid season)

The remaining bonus isn't $7M over 4 years. It was $7M for the entire contract...which was a 7 year deal (ie. $1M per season). So, he's got $4M in bonus money left. I don't understand why that gets spread across two years, but I follow his math at least.

The reason the trade works though isn't because DVO is great at math (not an insult...just something we shouldn't have had to look at). It's because the contracts were reported incorrectly. All of this could have been avoided.

and thats how ive done the math for all my trades as u can tell if u look ive racked up some cap pen but i still have over 10 mil in cap space. becuz of smart moves and doing all the proper math. i knew wut would be there still after the trades so my math has worked 100% properly with all my trades. AND all thoughs times u guyes said i never put enough thought into my trades and look at all work i really do.

Any remaining bonus money is a penalty split between 2 years any time a team releases or trades a player (i.e. cap penalty)

its the way the nfl does if if the contract is over one year so if a player goes to shit they dont ruin there team becuz they dont want to pay a guy so much money when he starts sucking. its actually pretty smart that the nfl does from a financial stand point to protect teams from players that quit playing once they get paid. if its one year left on the contract then they just get hit that year. but thats kinda obvious i would say

Simple enough. Makes sense so teams aren't completely railroaded in just one season. Otherwise these deals would happen even less than they do.

just a suggestion kaster but the trade style write up that i did with the saints/bengals trade should be the standard for trades it will make it alot less confusing for u guyes when looking at wut moneys going where and when. thats why i do it like that becuz it makes it easier to actually see the numbers than to guess them. or having to go in madden and look for urself

There is already a standard on how they should be submitted in the OP expressing how to write up a trade.

Anybody got contact info for ballinhun8??
I spoke to him earlier thru PM and told him I could play earlier b/c I didnt mind missing the beginning of the skins/hawks game. He PM'ed me back saying he was getting on....that was a fucking HOUR ago. The 1st half is now almost over and I had this shit on split screen just waiting and waiting.. i'm about to just go back to the game b/c it's turning into a good one.

Just pretty shitty that you ask me to play earlier that I wanted..., I comply..., then you say you're getting and fucking no-show me. At least send me another quick PM saying nevermind.

yes and thats one they used in the trade for the cowboys/pats trade which confused them about how much money is going where. and which is why i had to do all that math and show them how it would turn out but if people type in how i did it makes it easier for the committee to get trades put thru quicker. if they want to leave it the same and make it harder on themselves be my guest thats not my problem. trying to make there job easier and if there job is easier peoples trades get put thru faster. but im pretty positive im done with trades now that ive balanced my passing/rushing for offense and my defense i dont like to move becuz i suck at defense and the bengals are stacked

Vikings are in the market for help at linebacker, secondary, and QB and are also willing to move Jared Allen and/or Percy Harvin, plus most other people on my team.

Anything ever get resolved with this? This is pretty awful for this to be happening on the day of the deadline. I guess we could wait until the originally agreed upon time, but it's unfortunate that the communication broke down the way it did.

well 1-3 on my wildcard picks lol not to good maybe i will do better next week. although i did call the RGIII get hurt and cousins coming in. i was kinda hoping at that point cousins would win the game for them that would be very exciting
I'm back from being out of town, are the Browns still available or did the other guy claim them?
I think Frankysox was planning on getting the game today. Haven't heard anything, but giving them to whoever claims them first is probably the most fair thing to do. Technically, you asked about them first...and hopefully he wouldn't mind taking a different team...especially considering you're actually a Browns fan. If you want them, let me know and I'll send you an invite.

lol tons
by the way out of curiosity did that newly found info that i put together at all change thoughts on that trade?
