CAGLS: Madden 25 Fan's League! Season 3 Complete! Jets Win! Thanks Everybody!

I guess I misunderstood what you were saying. This year you can see their attributes. Last year you couldn't when bidding online. You could only see an overall, age, and scheme. It would certainly be nice if you could search by a specific attribute like you can in normal free agency, but sadly you can't. Maybe it will be added next year.
I look forward to that being touted on the back of the box lol.

Is it still the plan to advance to week 2 of FA tonight? It doesn't seem like there's near as much chatter about free agency in the thread as there was last year.

It's sad that playing Ultimate Team online and losing by 3 or less because you don't play like a douche feels like a victory, isn't it?

Yes, we'll be advancing shortly. I'm just browsing through the free agents in the game now. I did a little bit on the website earlier today, but it looked like ass and I didn't trust it, lol.

Ok, we have advanced...and HO-LEE CRAP...Kaster just got effed, lol. Peyton Manning and Champ Bailey retired. Reggie Wayne and Tony Gonzalez also retired, and I'm sure many of you saw that Ed Reed retired after the last advance.

Players of note that have signed already include:

DeAngelo Hall back to the Redskins (only team that offered him a contract when I had looked)

Jonathan Vilma signed with the Chiefs

Nnamdi Asomugha signed with the Colts

And it looks like scouting is available again. So, those of you who have new spots to fill, better start doing your homework, haha.

It looks like our draft is going to be 12/20 at 9PM EST. It was a very close vote between that an 12/14 at 9PM EST...but the 20th seemed to accommodate one more person. 9 out of 12 people are able to make it on the 20th, with 2 of the other 3 not actually indicating that they couldn't...just that they weren't sure.

Sorry to ubernes for being the only one who definitely marked that day as a no. I guess your schedule is just the opposite of most people here. The 3 days you said you could make it weren't even in the top 3 for votes, lol.

Anyway, this is going to give us a few days of downtime before the draft, so just plan accordingly.

I will try my best to make it home and be on by 9. Have a Christmas party to go to at 730, but with two kids, I can't imagine we'll be there for more than an hour hopefully.

All right, once again, we have advanced to the next stage of free agency. Doesn't look like anybody else retired, so everybody is safe there. Here are the notable signings.

Anthony Spencer signed with the Raiders.

Josh Cribbs returned to the Browns.

Marcel Reece signed with the Panthers.

So, I think I accidentally cheated during free agency.  I totally missed the rule where we had to sign guys to the exact length contract that they were asking for.  Everyone I signed so far wanted a 1 year deal, which is what I signed them to, except for Jacoby Jones.  I don't remember if he wanted a 3 or 4 year contract, but I only signed him to 1 year.

Whatever needs to be done to rectify this, let me know.  If anyone remembers how many years he wanted I can extend him once that option is available or just cut him, whichever you guys thing is appropriate.

Sorry about that.

That rule was to keep people from offering 7 years to guys asking for 1 year to get an advantage.  You can offer under what they are asking but not over.

Edit - adding from rules list:

2. Once players hit the open market, you may not offer a free agent a longer contract than what he is asking for. You can offer less years than what he is asking for, but not more. You may offer any dollar amount you wish though.

For example - If a player is requesting a 5 year contract, you MAY offer him anywhere between 1-5 years...for any dollar amount. You MAY NOT, however, offer him a six or seven year contract

That is what I assumed when I offered the contract, then last night I re-read the post from CAGLeagueSports & it said

  • You can only offer contracts at the length the player is asking for. If the FA wants a 1 year deal, you are only allowed to offer 1 year.

Yeah, that's probably my fault for doing too much of a copy/paste job with the rules the other league used. I still think offering less years is ok, as there's no real benefit or exploit that comes from that (at least that I'm aware of). The reason offering super long deals became attractive to people was because all the contracts are backloaded. With a one year deal, you're just paying the player value up front.

The other reason you were probably able to do it is because I don't think anybody else put an offer in on Jones. I think if another team had been bidding on him, and offered him the years he wanted, he would have taken that offer. And if nobody had offered him a deal, we would have gotten to the regular season...where he would have changed to wanting a one year deal anyway. I appreciate the honesty, but there's really no foul here.

Ah, shit. I was working on the road this week and totally forgot to check this thread. Haven't even really been on CAG except to respond to the draft pm sent out.

Looks like I at least lost Jacoby. Dammit. I'm gonna hop on shortly to see the damage done and what I need.

EDIT*

and..... I forgot I let my nephew borrow my 360 for the week when I saw him this past weekend, lol. Going to get it from him tomorrow morning since i just got home and dont want to drive another hour+ round trip to get it.

I'd rather lose my entire team than deal with the website on my IPad, the only device I have (no PC and I dropped my work laptop off in my office earlier tonight.)

All right. We have advanced again...and apparently, that was the last stage of free agency. All that is left is scouting, which means the draft is right after this. So, yeah...we've got a week to kill. But that's just the way our draft availability worked out for everybody, so it's fine by me. Gives everybody plenty of time to figure out their positions of need for the draft. I ran through the rosters, and saw some teams with only 1 QB, 1 RB, 3 WR, etc. so there are definitely some spots to fill.

Also, it is highly likely we'll do a round or two of draft style free agency after the rookie draft. I know some teams are probably going to be under 53 players. So, that's more than likely going to be necessary.

Do they not have the free agency recap anymore? I was thinking that last year it was right after the final round.

Colts got Hakeem Nicks. I'm curious what they gave him. I had offered him 5 years/35.5m.

Browns got Brandon Browner. All four of their starting secondary players are rated 90+ OVR now. I think the news story said he got 1 year/6.9m. I offered him 1/10.1. Whatevs. Enjoy losing in Cleveland.

I only offered five guys contracts, and ended up signing the other three not named Nicks and Browner. I picked up MLB Daryl Smith, MLB Brandon Spikes, and WR Ryan Swope. I overpaid for Swope, but he rejected my offer at the resigning stage. I wanted him back because I'd developed him a lot, and I think he still has a ton of XP that I haven't spent yet. Overall, LB was the one position I needed to rebuild after James Harrison retired and Maualuga has started going downhill. I feel like Spikes, Smith, Maualuga, and Vontaze Burfict should be a decent LB corps. Now I just need to address some depth in the draft.

Mixed bag. Managed to sign Jon Asomah and Antoine Cason, but struck out on Brandon Spikes and both of the fullbacks I needed. On the upside, I still have 21 million in cap space and the 11th pick in the draft (though I wouldn't say no to moving down potentially). And bonus, I see that Eli Manning only has two years left on his ginormous deal.

I was hoping to get Tim Jennings & Golden tate. I guess I should have offered to another corner or two, at least I got Jacoby Jones.  I only have 3 CB & 3 WR on my roster and no 1st round pick.

Yeah once I saw it was Kaster bidding on Jennings, I backed out. Knowing that Bailey retired, I figured he'd do whatever it took to get Jennings.

Craziest thing is that several CPU teams are carrying 9 WR tight now and leaving themselves really thin at other positions.

I threw 5 years and $41 million at Nicks because I needed to replace Reggie Wayne after he retired in the second week of free agency.

Yeah I lost the FB I wanted to the Eagles, who already had a 72 overall RB on their roster. Granted this FB was a slight upgrade (81) but given how little money the Eagles had to spare, it seemed like a waste.

Haha, yeah in fairness I didn't realize this was the last round until it was too late. I thought there was one more round, so I figured only one would sign with me. Of course, had Forbath signed with me when I offered him a contract in the first round, this all could have been avoided. What a dick.

Hopefully I was able to get my starting C and RT filled. Those were my only musts and I was going to jump on and up some offers if needed.

No worries on the draft. I was going to mention not to plan around me if I became a tie breaker.

Spot on, man :) I was going hard after Cutler too, but he went to Oakland instead.
Yeah, the Oakland signing of Cutler is really odd. They already had 2 QBs at 79 and 80 OVR...and they signed Cutler to an absurd 2 year deal. Meanwhile, they have 9 WRs and 1 RB on the roster... EA logic.

You know what would be nice? The ability to create your own draft board.
Had it in Madden 12...took it out last year. Maybe next year for Madden 15 on next gen, they can brag about ti being a "new feature".

Also, "J'Dinkalage Morgoone...University of South Flerda" lol.

I sent out PMs last night, but posting a reminder in here as well:

Draft Tonight! 9PM EST!

Be there...or don't be mad if the CPU drafts 3 punters for you!

T minus 10 minutes. Hope everybody is getting ready. I'm not sure how many CPU teams in a row will start us out, but hopefully it's a good enough number to make sure everything is running smoothly. These drafts are usually chaos. But there are no trades or anything like that to keep up with, So, maybe that will make it go smoother. Of course, now that I've said that...lol.

I'm still stuck at this christmas party. Doubt I can but I'm gonna see if the website lets me do anything. Pretty sure I'm getting stuck with a qb in the first round.
