Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

I have a problem, ever since i got home ive been playing Search and Destroy all day long...Its a sick game type, I just discovered the joys of it this morning...Its a great challenge and it takes some strategy and alot of team cooperation, ive been with teams that do nothing but talk shit at each other and loose 4-0. I love it, I havent even tried any of the other game types besides Ground war, Oldcore (rarely) and Search and Destroy.

What are your guys favorite game types?

This game is great! I just beat it yesterday and man was it an awesome and well worth it ride. Somehow, though, it seems that my settings switched after the first level from Veteran to Hardened. The first level was quite easy for veteran from an IW game, but of course it probably isn't representative of the game as a whole. Hardened was quite enjoyable, with the exception of a few certain areas/parts of the game - most notable the ferris wheel (I didn't know about the trick to it, but pretty much managed a perfect run on it by placing the claymores in perfect area, same for the C4, using the dogs to my advantage, and pretty much having perfect sniping and shooting with an AK).

How much is the difficulty upped from Hardened to Veteran in this CoD4 in the middle of the game?

Is it really that much more difficult? I'm thinking about going back to playing through the game again as soon as I finish Prey. Very very
fun game and I very much enjoyed playing through it.
Team Hardcore is so badass
I love that mode, as long as teamates turn off martyrdom, lol.

I also like Headquarters alot, the mad scramble for each new HQ point is fun.
Not using a mike is not a good idea for CoD 4. You can probably do deathmatch OK, but it's going to be hard because you can't coordinate with the other players, especially in the objective-based games.
You misunderstood. I can't use my headset for Halo 3 because its the Turtlebeach X2, and since there is no in game audio options, I can't hear people talking over the in game sound when I use the headset. Every other game has audio options that I've seen, so I can just turn down in game sound and I can hear voices over the in game sound no prob. Halo 3 MP is fun but since I can't communicate at all it gets boring fast. This is why I wanted to know if there was in game audio options for CoD4. ;)
There is a game volume slider in the options.

I find the game to be very noob friendly compard to Gears. I consistently finish in the top 3 of CoD games. When I played Gears online I got owned constantly. It was soo bad I never played it again.

Most of my FPS noob friends who have been playing this have been slowly getting better. One of my friends hated it at first, cos he sucked. He would finish last every game. But I kept encouraging him to keep playing. Now he's the one bugging me to play all the time, and he never finishes last anymore.

Watch the kill cam, dont run around like crazy, slowly learn the maps and you will do okay.
Thanks for all the info. It's great to hear that it is somewhat noob friendly. I haven't been hardcore into FPS games since Goldeneye on N64, so I have a lot of learning to do, and it seems CoD4 gives you the tools to improve. Definitely gonna have to check this out when I get a chance.

ive been stuck on the ferris wheel part of One Shot One kill all week on veteran, It's 100,000 - 2, So many grenades, dogs, RPG's, Snipers, Assault rifles and enemies that just dont stop, Enemies on all sides shooting at you and throwing combos of flashbangs and grenades, Youll be lucky to get off three shots before you'll have to scramble for cover from the 4 grenades that just landed at your feet while a guy on your left is ramming straight towards you with a shotgun, and ten others cover your current position with snipers and assault rifles.

Good luck.

I'm contemplating trading Halo 3 in, haven't played it in 3 weeks now and everyone on my friends list is playing CoD4 or GHIII. How many of you haven't played Halo 3 since you got CoD4?

Actually, I heard that there's a trick to easily beat that portion of the level on Veteran. I got it off of GameFAQs, so I'm not sure to the authenticity of it, but usually they're good about these things. Supposedly there's a glitch or a hide point during that point of the mission - just the farthest house to the left of Ferris Wheel when you're facing the on coming onslaught of foes - that you can just hide under a table or something and no flashbangs, grenades, or bullets can hit you. The strategy with it is to before the enemies come to place C4 around the cars, wait it out at this hide point, and then when the helicopter comes to blow up the C4 and sprint to the helicopter. I don't know if that works or not, but when I play that mission on Veteran Ill be sure to give it a shot.

I haven't played Halo 3 since it came out. I never went back to play it again on Legendary, though i probably will during the holiday break. I also didn't really care to go and search for the skulls.

That's what I had to do after failing this mission so many times. I didn't use any C4, just hid in the little shack for the entire assault and ran like hell once the helicopter got there. There were about 4 million grenades going off around me at all times, but none ever did damage and nobody even passed by the door.

I felt so cheap afterward.. didn't feel like spending all afternoon trying to fight them all off though.

I tried hiding in a bunch of different shacks but someone would always get lucky and blow me up with a grenade.

What I wound up doing (on Hardened) was run back towards where I came from, sticking to the right. You wind up going between two apartment buildings. No one ever bothered me beyond the occasional flashbang. Once the chopper arrived, it was a mad dash back to the other sniper and into the helicopter. I don't think it would've worked on Veteran.

I tried it, I always get flanked by five guys coming from the west side of the apartments and the Horde of guys coming out of the pool area and surrounding the cars

Ive tried hiding in the shack NorthEast of Macmillian and waiting it out, but i either get my ass blown up by a lucky toss grenade or when i finally come out of the shack Im down in 3 seconds.

I dont even try staying anywhere near the ferris wheel (instant Death) and ive found out that even if! you kill all the guys coming down from the choppers twenty more take their place.

Ive tried to find a good shooting setup near the bumper cars, but either i get killed while im reloading or one of the Dogs comes up out of nowhere aand rips out my throat.

Sometimes i feel like just grabbing the AK and going all Kamikaze on their asses! but i'd be dead before I even thought of pulling the trigger

I think I played Halo 3 once after the BETA for CoD4 ended. Never once since then. I'd trade mine in too, but I figure I'll still play that with friends when they ask.

The last time I played Halo was on Halloween, to check out that new game mode they threw in there for one day. It was weeks before that, and I havent played it since. I play CoD online every day.

I'm keeping Halo tho, I'll check out the new maps when they become free, and if theres one 360 game that you know people will still be playing on Live 2-3 years from now and more, its Halo.

I just played some Halo for a bit cause my friend called me up that he finally bought some Live time. I kept pressing the wrong buttons and I can't say I miss much from Halo. Maybe sticking someone and the vehicles a bit but COD4 makes up for it in so many ways. Had a couple cool theater moments too so I at least know I'll keep coming back for that.

How did you make it to MacMillan to pick him up and carry him to the helicopter? I'd imagine that by the time you got to him or picked him up you'd be killed. Still, if I do play that level on Veteran, then I'll have no problem of using the hidey hole since I don't want to take 20 minutes trying to find the pattern and trying to manage a perfect run with ammo and head shots.

I didn't really have that much trouble when I did it on Hardened. I was under the impression, like I said earlier, that I was actually playing the game on Veteran, but will now have to go back and do it again. What I did was set up by the Ferris Wheel, directly behind the the ferris cart in the middle, after I had layed the C4 and Claymores. Then I let the first wave come down while mowing them down with snipe shots. I waited for the dogs to come and had them take some of the bad guys out with them and actually support them by taking out some of the guys that would have killed them. By this point the first batch of bad guys would have finally hit some of my claymores. MacMillan and I would still be mowing guys down. Then, they would come down the middle and I'd blow up a bunch, revert back to my sniper rifle and shoot as fast as I could. It sounds harder then it was. Then the break would come. This is where I kind of screwed myself over by using the Claymores and C4 so early. I hadn't expected that the designers would set you up with a second wave of bad guys. This part took me a few time to get down, but you kind of just need to have a perfect run with shooting on the mark and not having reload issues, etc. Before the second wave descended on me, once I figured out they would, I would switch out my pistol for an AK and some ammo. The ammo is crucial because you don't want to be having a perfect run and then run out o fammo while a shot gun guy is next to you. Anyway, you set back up by the ferris wheel near the middle and then the pattern is that the bad guys start by coming in first from left side. You should only have to take out 2 of these guys as MacMillan will score a hit on third guy that descends, but sometimes you can take out all three in one swoop. Next, turn your screen to the furthest right and shoot all the guys that come from the helicopter by the benches. You have to be precise throughout. You'll probably have to reload after this batch. From here, move slightly more behind this ferris cart and start mowing as fast as you can the guys coming down the cent and hope that some of your claymores are still there. I had a few left. At a certain point, you'll have taken enough of the guys coming down the center/middle/between the cars that you'll be able to take a second rest and jump away from the cart switching to the AK you picke dup. (Again, make sure that all your weapons are full of ammo before the onslaught). In the back of the ferris wheel, you'll start to strafe side to side shooting whatever bad guys make it to the sides of the Ferris Wheel/back of the Ferris Wheel. You have to becareful since some of them will go flat on their stomachs and it will be very difficult to spot them with their camo on. From time to time it when you don't see bad guys coming up the sides, it would be good to take out your sniper rifle and shoot the guys coming down the center. Oh yeah, one or two guys might come up/down the center of the Ferris Wheel but you shouldn't have a problem spotting them when they do and one or two quick bullets from the AK take them out. Next, the heli comes out. Run to the helicopter, wait a second and let the guys get setup around you, then run to MacMillan, carry him back and voila! you're done! That's the way to battle through that part of the level.

Easiest way I did that level without cheesing it was to if your looking where the helos are dropping/where you came from go to the right passed the ferris wheel behind a little platform thing with a roof over it, there is a fence there blocking one side and the only way for them to get to you is with nades/come from the 1 way. It isnt a gimme but its better then cheesing/dieing a billion times imo...

I play CoD 4 for about 2 or 3 games, then get tired of it and then play Team Slayer on Halo 3. IMO, COD 4 is an amazing game, expecially for multiplayer when you have people to play with online, and if you don't then I guess its fun to either play in short bursts or for mindless running around. The different matchmaking lists are awesomely different, though.

Also, I wish that they would just use the word VETO. We all know you stole the idea IW, no sense in hiding it. "Skip" is such a whimpy word.

I like to play in longer bursts than that because, whenever I first get on and get into a match, I usually suck. It takes me a good 2-3 matches to get into my groove. Anytime after that point I have a chance to get into the 'zone' and thats where I get 4:1 or better Kill/Death rations, win matches for my team, and accomplish most of my challenges.

If I only played 2-3 matches and then stopped, I'd never get to my happy place, and I'd never be that good at the game. :D

*edit* This same philosophy applies to Halo as well.

Believe it or not, when I came out of the building and ran to pick him up, there weren't that many enemies visible or attacking me, so I was safe for a time. Of course, they all seemed to appear out of nowhere when I was a few feet from the helicopter.

I'd say I just got really lucky.
got 43 kills in a match last night, it was insane. but i think the other team just sucked. i gotta say though, silenced weapons ftw! haha
Red Dot > Silencer :)

i need some help on the single player, i'm in the tv station room where i'm supposed to get to the 2nd floor. but the enemies keep on coming, it's like an onslaught of soldiers and gernades one after the other. what am i supposed to do?

Keep moving forward.

The enemies will keep spawning until you get to the next hallway.

I just want to know where all the TVs are on that level. I thought I'd shot every one of them, but I didn't get the achievement so obviously somewhere there were still some left.

Same here. I usually play for about 8-10 games on past CoDs. Around the 4 or 5 mark I start to own. CoD3 with 60+ kills!

i finally cleared the room and i'm looking at all the tv's and they all are broken and no acheivement, i'm still looking for some tv's though.
Why would a silencer be better than a sight?
Because if you use Silencer and UAV Jammer Perk, you are invisible on the UAV. :whistle2:#

i have no problem aiming without a sight on any gun. on top of that, i've gotten so many kills because a team didn't see me on the radar from raping them from behind. whenever i have a silencer on my gun i do much better that coupled with UAV jammer is orgasm

silencer > sight

I don't need to be invisible to get kills, I need the sight.

Speaking of which, had my best game last night.

147 kills with 38 deaths.

That doesn't mean a thing though. A silencer still has a distinctive sound when fired. I play with my Home Theater on so I can clearly hear which direction the silenced shot came from.
Isn't there a perk that allows you to create a class with two primary weapons??? If there is what level is it unlocked at?
Yes, it's called Overkill.

I forget which level you unlock it at, but it's pretty high.

Why would you want to use it though?

It's easy just to pick up another gun off the ground.

I played a number of games today where the host was on a different continent, which caused horrible lag and made the game almost unplayable at times. Infinity Ward really needs to fix the game so that you only play with people on your continent.
