Just wondering, but did Futureshop and Bestbuy change their Price Match guarantee polices?
I always thought it was that they will give you the competitors price, plus give you an extra 10% off. But when I went in today they gave me 10% of the difference, which ended up saving me a whole $2 for $200 product.
Was it always like that?

It was always like that. I guess you got lucky when they gave you a 10% discount on the original price.

that does sound odd. they're supposed to give you 110% of the difference which is as you thought (competitor's price + 10%) if they just discount 10% of the difference you might as well buy at the competitor and at least get 100% of the difference.

Was the item $200 at BB or at the competitor?

Once thing I've experienced with BB is that they price match at the check out.. but only do 110% if you bring it up after purchase at customer service.
It was always like that. I guess you got lucky when they gave you a 10% discount on the original price.
oh. I get it now. Yeah heimdal is correct. you're not gonna get 10% of the item price. it's 10% of the difference.

Futureshop, and most other stores, has always been 10 per cent of the difference, not the price of the item; it's their cheapest way to guarantee the 'lowest price possible'.

Ok thanks. I just find it weird that I've been getting 10% off the final price for as long as I can remember

BestBuy had it for $180, FutureShop had it for $200
I went to FutureShop thinking I could PM, plus get the 10% after, but since its 10% of the difference I got 10% of $20, which was only $2. So final price was $178+tax, which struck me as odd. I called my brother and he thought the same thing(PM+10%) as me.

So now I know when there's a $20 difference on something expensive, I might as well not go through the troubles of PM

Nope, that's how it's always been. It's vaguely worded to the point of deception, and intentionally so. They figure it's an awesome sounding enough deal to give someone the "secure, safe feeling" when they buy, but craptacular enough that most people won't bother to take advantage of it. The average shopper's thought patter goes like this:

(Sees big ticket item) Wow, I hope I'm getting the best price on this. (Sees the sign for PM) Wow, 110% is a big number and my brain can't handle the math, so it must be good. FutureShop's really looking out for me. I'll buy it. (The next day, sees a cheaper price) Wow, that is cheaper, but it isn't worth it to me for "just" $15.

yeah unfortunately that's just the way it is. You always want to maximize that difference. Sometimes I have coupons and I don't use them cause it makes that 10% smaller. annoying but what are you gonna do eh

I've done it a couple of times, no problem. You can also get them to check it at the store (my bestbuy did it for me) The printout will save you time though.

Ok I tried to read those posts several times cause it wasn't making sense to me. With price matches at stores they always match the competitor's price, then subtract an additional 10% of the diff, like they will match the $180 and then take off 10% of the $20 difference so you would get it for $178. I can't understand why you guys are saying it's never been like this, it's always like this when I PM at Best Buy and FS.
Does anyone know if Walmart has the LE of Gears 2? I saw only the regular edition in the case (for preorder).
They have pre-order cases for the LE at my Wal-Mart.

I think some people have gotten an additional 10% off the matched price, probably because of a clueless CSR. They override the price on their terminal, so it's not done automatically. On occasion I've had to do the calculations for the CSR.

Yeah, but it looked like people above were saying that stores don't even match the price, they just give you 10% of the difference off. Maybe I misread it but I re-read several times. Sorry if I'm wrong. Like that guy only got $2 off on his item when it was actually $20 less at the other store.

He did get the price match and then 10% off the difference.

It ended up as $178+tax.

Hi gang. Say, has anyone received their pre-order of Valkyria Chronicles from EB Games yet? Just a little worried that my pre-order hasn't arrived yet. The manager at my local EBG keeps telling me that there has been a delay on it since last week. Can anyone confirm this? Thx in advance!

Didn't get it at EB, but picked it up at Future Shop. So unless the delay is just for that store, the dude is wrong.

Thx doctor_payne. Man, wth's going on with my EB... there's been a change in management lately, and all of the staff that I used to know are all gone. And the new manager there sure has a real attitude problem; not very nice to the customers. Oh well, guess I'll just wait a bit more. Thx bro.
Is BBV still the cheapest for the Playstation Eye ($33.99)?
Check the weekly flyer threads... I think they've been $30.
Check the weekly flyer threads... I think they've been $30.
Do you remeber which store had it at this price? The best I've seen is the $32.99 BBV price. I've *heard* RCSS has had it for $20, but never seen it at that price in the GTA.

Does anyone know if Left 4 Dead is supposed to be out today (that's what I've been seeing listed most places)? I've been under the impression that games usually only release on Tuesdays and sometimes Sundays or Fridays... but very rarely on a Monday. I have it preordered... but assumed it wasn't out until tomorrow (when I'm also picking up Naruto... wooh!)

Supposedly it is out today on 360 and PC tomorrow, based on Kotaku's informative post ;)

Ah man, so you guys aren't crazy and I somehow just read it wrong 4 times... that's cool. What did he think he should be getting then, 10% off the entire price of the item?

Not in at my store. I gave them a call and they say it's not supposed to be out until tomorrow... and that they probably wont have it until the 19th anyways. Boo.

Yea I thought it was 10% of the $180, but I was wrong

Anyways, new question time.
Black Friday is coming up, and even though our dollar isn't as strong, I've been thinking about possibly going to the states and picking up a cheap TV since they usually have better deals than our Boxing day. My question though is at the border, would I have to pay tax or duty or if there's something I should know if I decide to go.

I went about 3 months ago, and spent about $400 on a bunch of stuff, told the border and there were no problems. I just don't want to go extremely early only to be stopped coming back because I didn't know a certain law or something, if I do buy a large TV.

I can only speak from past experience, but I think you have a pretty low duty-free maximum for spending such a small amount of time in the US. The longer you stay the more you can bring back without paying for it. So I'd say you will probably be charged for buying a big TV.

Just looked this up:

Canadians returning to Canada from the U.S., After each absence of 24 hours or more:
You can claim up to CAN$50 worth of goods without paying any duties. This is your personal exemption. You must have the goods with you when you arrive and you cannot include tobacco products or alcoholic beverages in this exemption. If the goods you bring in are worth more than CAN$50 in total, you cannot claim this exemption. Instead you have to pay full duties on all goods you bring in.

After each absence of 48 hours or more:
You can claim up to CAN$400 worth of goods without paying any duties. You must have the goods with you when you arrive. Although you can include some tobacco products and alcoholic beverages, a partial exemption may apply to cigarettes, tobacco products or manufactured tobacco.

Amazon.ca.
Its what I've been telling all the customers who're like "GIMMIE A WII!".
We don't have any.
We should have some for the Grand Opening Sale (BEST BUY HAMILTON). Everyone should come visit me from 10-2 if they're in the area.

Gimme a Wii! And a Wii Fit! And a Pony!

Seriously, though, is there another Wii scarcity on the way? One of my fiance's coworkers is looking to get a Wii for her family for the holiday. She has a ton of Airmiles saved up, but Airmiles doesn't have the Wii in stock anymore. I suggested she cash the points in for Zellers gift cards, and snag one while they're still in stock.

How long until the Wiis have gone all Elmo on us?

Sorry for double post, saw a few deals today.

Best Buy has open-box Rock Band 2 SE for 360 for $160, and open-box 80GB PS3 for $360.

EB/GS has Rock Band SE for PS2/Wii for $110, and PS3/360 for $140.
Anyone try MK vs DC yet? I'd love some firsthand impression since I was thinking of getting it.
I rented it and after all the abuse its taken from all these sites, i actually found it really really fun. The only negative thing i can think of is that they made it teen taking a bit away from what everyone loves in MK but its still a very good game.

The story is about as good as any MK story really and this is what people really like to beat up on the game.

The Characters are very well balanced between the DC and MK.

The graphics are more than decent, this was something i was skeptical about after seeing all the trailers and stuff but watching the videos online does not do this game justice. Also the game has some really cool effects most notably Sub-zeros freezing powers look as cool as ever.

Online play is pretty much exactly what you can expect from every other fighter.

Game Mechanics have kinda stayed the same with slight tweeks here and there and i kinda noticed they've sped the game up a bit ( which i really like)

To sum it up if you are a fan of the Mortal Kombat series than you will enjoy this game.

if you got more questions id be happy to answer them.

Oh yea, if you had the option to get this for ps3 or 360, i would definately go with the ps3 controller, my hand kinda hurts after a while playing on 360.

I imported the European version just so I can have that uncensored Joker fatality. It should arrive tomorrow morning.

i had no idea it was uncensored in R2...didn't even occur to me that might be the case. that's cool though...good idea.

It was just 3 fatalities that they move the camera for so its not so violent(youtube for the Joker fatality). But I just got word that even with my imported version it will still be censored by a friend who did the same thing as me. At least with the xbox 360 version.

So I imported for nothing basically

That sucks for you Sousanator! I bet it makes you want to rip someone's spine out ;)
Thanks for the reviews/price deals, I may pass for now since I bought Resistance 2 and LBP recently (thanks to the RCSS deal). Unless I see the game really cheap, I'll pass for now.

Has FS/BB ever carried the Xbox 120GB HD? (i.e. available for the 20% accessories sale?) if not, any good deals on the official drive? I'm not looking to hack my own...

I got mine from FS online. The BB website doesn't seem to have it... and I haven't seen it in stores since the price drop earlier this year.

Anyone know what EB Games' policy is for games that do not work? I just bought Bioshock used 2 hours ago, and find out that it isn't working. I plan to give it back to EB tomorrow. Will they give my money back or give me another Bioshock DVD? Thnxs.

yeah they just give you another one.. it's how Gamestop reduces the cost of testing their games by making us the testers. Yipee!

So I have a question that's unrelated to gaming directly. I'm fairly recent to Canada and I'm trying to work out a system of idea money transfer between my US accounts. Basically my question is how does paypal work in Canada? Is there anyway to get funds into my paypal account from Canada?
