I've seen so many different thrread that the forum is getting messy. Since we have an official trading thread, maybe we can have an official one for questions too, because after all, this is the Canadian HOT DEALS forum! It's not right when we have more questions than deals. You can ask any question you wan there, ranging from the cheapest 360, HDTVGame delays, Canadian game rental sites all the way to where the cheapest copy of Burnout is. I can assure you that you will get the same amout of replies here, if not more!

I've got a question on how trade-in values work when purchasing a new game. Specifically, how EB Games does it, but a general explanation would work as well.

Are trade-ins supposed to apply prior to the application of tax or after?
For example, if a game is $69.99 and I trade in two games with a trade-in value of $30 each (with a total value of $60), would I have to pay 69.99 * 1.13 - 60 = $19.09 or (69.99 - 60) * 1.13 = $11.29?

The reason I ask - outside of the obvious difference in price - is that a few weeks ago, I traded in a game at Game Centre (in GTA) and they applied the credit after applying the tax. Then last week, I traded in a game in EB and they applied the credit prior to the tax, so now I'm a little confused.

Which is it supposed to be? (And if anyone can confirm EB the situation for EB...)
Trade-credit is not taxable.
Credit that is purchased, such as a gift card, is taxable.

It should be $69.99 - 60 * 1.[your tax]
Hm... interesting. Then I guess I'll be trading in with EB Games in a few days instead of Game Centre. Thanks...

I've got another question. I had heard before that one could get a free subscription of Game Informer magazine from EB Games by purchasing something from them. Is that deal still applicable today? And if so, what steps must I take in order to capitalize on said deal?

Just thought I'd get some input from fellow CAG's. I'm looking to test the waters and possibly sell my launch 60GB PS3. I have no need for the backwards compatibility anymore, and thought it would be easier to sell it instead of trying to trade for one of the newer PS3 bundles. The PS3 is in perfect working order, cleaned maybe bi-weekly, and it's only cosmetic "damages" are light scratches on the top surface of the PS3 itself (inevitable after almost 3 years).

Anyways, here's what I'm looking to get a price-point/estimate on...
Everything that came with the original launch 60GB PS3 Bundle:
- 60GB Playstation 3
- Dualshock 3 (sold my Sixaxis to upgrade)
- AC Power Cord
- AV Cable (Composite)
- Ethernet Cable
- USB Cable
- Printed Materials
+ Bonus: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (Blu-Ray)
+ ALL this comes with the original box too

Extras:
- HDMI Cable
- Optical Cable
- 10 ft. USB Cable
- Best Buy Performance Service Plan w/ Original Receipt valid until Nov 11/09 (You'll get to see the absurd amount I paid for this on launch )
- Casino Royale (Blu-Ray; PAL Version)

Optional:
Your choice of Resistance 2: Collector's Edition or LittleBigPlanet

Any input/ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Quick questions: Where can I find the cheapest copies of both Mercenaries 2 and Overlord: Raising Hell - both for the PS3. Also what's the regular prices of these games?
Any places still have the first Condemned new???
Zellers' bargain bin section?

Mercenaries 2 seems to be $19.99 at most places...try EB Games, they may have it for $9.89 (although unlikely), but it doesn't hurt to try. Overlord is currently $39.99 at Video Games Plus, which seems to be the cheapest option.

hey guys, just wondering, what's the cheapest way to ship games across Canada? I hear $2, but that's just to ship, right? Then you have to add another $2 or so for the packaging?

Packaging shouldn't be more than $.50 since all you really need is a padded envelope which you can get at a dollar store. I've gotten a 3-pack of #0 (should fit standard DVD cases perfectly) for $1 at Dollarama in the past.

Oh awesome, thanks Jbently, I was silly enough to purchase a CD bubble envelope from the post office for $1.79! I'll definitely hit up the dollar store before shipping off anything else. Thanks again!

Also if you want to be extra cheap you can pick up the largest size mailers they have (which still come in a 3 pack) and you can cut them in half so you get 6 mailers for $1. You just need to seal the end with packaging tape once you put the game in. Also the bigger envelopes are perfect for sending 2 games to the states because you can put them in side by side instead of stacked on top of each other and save a couple of bucks on the shipping since it still qualifies as light packet.

What is FutureShop's policy on price matching. I read on their site that they give you 10% off of the difference, however when I price matched an HD reciever there the other day they gave me a hard time and the run around and eventually when they price matched they only gave me a $.01 discount when there was a $50 price difference. Since I had a futureshop gift card I didnt feel like arguing at the time as I was tired of arguing with them to get the damn price match (which wasnt a mistake price or anything like that). If I take the bill in and talk to the manager will I get anything extra like a small gift card? or is it not worth the hassle?

to killmark: PMing is so much YMMV, sumtimes u get easy PMing, no hassle 10%diff off..other times u only get the PM , NOT the 10%, sumtimes u get NOTHING!

i PM FS with Bestbuy product and i did NOT get 10%diff. off :( , there lame excuse: were the same company BS

Anyone seen inFamous up for pre-order for less than $70? Amazon.ca just dropped their price from $70 to $66.99, was hoping for something more like $60. I guess it's a little early to know what most stores are going to be charging on launch day.

It will almost certainly be $70 at most stores when it comes out. Even recent games that came out at $60 (ie. Killzone 2) are having their prices increased to match the new exchange rate.

Do you guys know how to put funds into the psn wallet without using a credit card?
I heard you can use this paypal plugin and it makes a temporary cc out of your paypal account. I looked it up but its only for US.
I only have debit card so I can't put any money in the wallet.
If you guys know how, please tell me, thanks!

ordering online means using paypal right?
i don't want to go through the hassle of waiting for shipment and paying for shipping atm lol

If you guys know how, please tell me, thanks!
if you have a paypal account it's in USD right? I thought if you put money into a paypal acct it converts to USD.

I remember spending weeks trying to find out if there was a Canadian Paypal and came up with nothing.

If you can get money into a paypal account actually creating the temp CC is easy enough. They also say it only works for windows but yeah that didn't hold true.

You can use the bigger ones to mail 2 games (or 3 PSP) flat within canada for 2.65.

Most people use bubble envelopes but they really arent needed. Columbia house sends piles of dvds in paper envelopes without problem.

So if i put $30 can in to my paypal. Is it going to be $30 canadian in there until i purchase something in USD?
Does it automatically use the highest convert rate that day?
I don't want to be charged with the highest rate lol.
How do you create a temp CC? is it with the plugin?
I tried downloading the plugin but it said its only for americans. So it won't let me download it.

Check Walmart, I think I saw an RFD thread saying it was $58 there.

So it won't let me download it.
now I can't 100% this since I haven't had the opportunity to use my paypal acct since i arrived in Canada but my understanding was that. If you put money in your acct it gets converted to USD. SO if you put in 100 CDN your account will get +80USD or whatever the exchange rate is. I imagine the rate probably isn't the best they're not a bank after all and yada yada yad.

as for creating the temp CC that's going to be a bit tricky not because it's hard but because I've forgotten the interface it's been that long. Basically you CAN use the plugin but what I do is use the website. You can do a similar thing and paypal will save the full information of your CCs online so I have a list that shows the last three CCs I created (Numbers, exp dates, security numbers ammount charged, max charge and so forth) so you just use that information when you're plugging it into the PSN.

Now since I'm pretty much broke at the moment i haven't done much online buying since I came to Canada. My paypal situation is obviously going to be a bit different from you since I created it in the US.

What I'm currently setting up and this might work for you is a US bank account. I have my RBC (Can) Account and I set up a US Access account so soon I'll have two account CAN/US. I simply linked my paypal to my US account and what I do is transfer money online from my CAN to US acccount and then from there to paypal. (now that i think about it I could probably just create the CC and paypal will auto deduct from the linked account.
When you guys use goozex, do you typically use case+disc or disc-only? Both for sending and requesting stuff.. just curious
I do full set. I don't ship much but what I have is complete(disc, manual, case). I would prefer to only get the same in return but goozex only has (disc, case). So far I've been lucky. I've even got sealed a few times. with batman :Rise of Sin Tzu I got not only new but collectors edition. I was shocked awesome. sometimes If i see a good deal. I'll buy and ship new.

haha thanks wolfkin.
but that seems so complicated lol.
i guess i better just wait for the psn cards.

oh 1 more question, if my psn account is canadian.
the prices for games are both 9.99 for canadian and US.
isn't it cheaper to buy it in canada? lol

If you transfer funds into paypal the funds stay as the currency you use to transfer them in. If you transfer in CAD funds they will remain in CAD until you go to use them at which point they will automatically be exchanged at a rate that is close to the current exchange rate.

I have a query!

I see that New Super Mario Brothers will give me $10 more at Future Shop. How do trade-ins work there? Do they put your credit on a gift card? Can you buy something with the credit on the spot like at EB?

Gift card, yes. Buy on the spot, well, kind of, I had to take the card over to a normal cashier to buy something (non game related) with it.

It does indeed go on a gift card... I don't think you can just directly put the credit towards your purchase without having it on a gift card first, if that's what you're asking.

Also, keep in mind that Future Shop will tax the credit they give you when you use it, while EB's credit is tax-free!

Thank you. Apparently, NSMB is $25 so I'll probably take it to EB when I finish the game this week. I do prefer EB over anybody else in that regard.

no such thing as 'case+disc' on goozex.

the options are:

full package
game+manual
game only

As suggested, Infamous is available for pre-order at Wal-Mart for $58 ($10 down). I picked mine up at one of the Gatineau stores. The Pre-Order case includes the code for the Infamous Demo (and it peels off - do not attempt to scratch).

So, is it true that if you pay off a game in advance when pre-ordering at EB, you won't have to pay any tax on the amount you've deposited? You could be saving almost $8 on a $60 game if this was true. So you could get the game for 59.99 flat? Anyone know the answer to this?

When pre-ordering, you can choose what amount you pay, but you still pay taxes. You choose a $5 amount to guarantee the the order, or you can pay for the full order at one time. If you are using credit, then the credit is taken off before taxes are applied, but if you are using credit/debit, the taxes are added on the spot if you pay for the game in full, or are added on when you pick up the game if you put down a smaller deposit. If I'm wrong, buy all means, let it be heard! Cheers.

Oh, I've heard people say that they don't tax credit at EB, and complain that places like Blockbuster do. I see that being said pretty often, did I just misunderstand what they meant?

Does anyone know how exactly the Uncharted 2 MP beta will be distributed? Because I preordered Infamous from WalMart, but no where on the packaging does it say anything about Uncharted 2.

I think it is an option from within the game itself (just like Crackdown and Halo 3). This is just a guess on my part.

How did you like the Infamous demo? I thought it was awesome. A little Assassin's Creed, add in some Crackdown, and mix in a little Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Stir it all up and out pops Infamous! Good times.
