I've seen so many different thrread that the forum is getting messy. Since we have an official trading thread, maybe we can have an official one for questions too, because after all, this is the Canadian HOT DEALS forum! It's not right when we have more questions than deals. You can ask any question you wan there, ranging from the cheapest 360, HDTVGame delays, Canadian game rental sites all the way to where the cheapest copy of Burnout is. I can assure you that you will get the same amout of replies here, if not more!

I think I'll just wait for another 5000 point/20 token sale to crop up; that was a great deal! People complained about it diluting the Goozex system but I managed to get quite a few gems out of it all! I don't imagine they'll have another sale like that till Christmas. Ah well, I can wait, school comes first, after all...Thanks for the answer, too!

I wasn't too happy with Goozex selling points cause it did dilute the point system ratio towards the inventory of games being traded, but I guess if they are bringing back their "Goozex Exchange" this Friday, I'm fine with it. This will help decrease people's excess points by buying new games directly from Goozex at a 1600 points per game.

I didnt see any effect from the point sale. They HAVE to inject new points into the system somehow, and I don't think many people buy them at eg price. As the user base grows, the existing points get spread between more people. When a new user signs up and offers games, no points are created (maybe 100 with the promo). So eventually trading would grind to a halt as there wouldn't be enough points for the system to operate.

As long as they balance the point selling with new user growth its not only fine, but required to increase the points in circulation.

I had expected at least a short term effect from that sale, particularly on people's willingness to send out low point games, but i didn't have any trouble getting them, and activity didnt decrease.

Movies seem to be a flop being the active trade number has hardly increased from what it was before after a brief blip when they started

I've got a question about Goozex. I bought 500 points in order to try to get Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 (priced at 450). I put the game in my requests, the status is now "active".

My question is: do I just wait? Is there any indication that I will even get this game?

I mean, it says there are 19 of them on hold, but I'm not sure what that means at all.

Where can I go to find a lot of Dreamcast accessories and games in Montreal? I picked up a DC at a Value Village in Ottawa for $25 on its own and I'm trying to ward away my buyer's remorse.

Did they ever make S-video cables for this thing?

yes you wait. The hold ones are people that got in line and moved it to their hold list. That means they aren't in the queue to receive the game, but could activate their request at any time and regain the place they had(they are probably waiting for the value to fall)

There are only 2 active requests showing for the game (we dont see americans that have their setting as USA only though), so its quite possible you wont have a long wait. It doesnt trade as actively as some though.

the goozex forum is active to get reponses on how things work pretty quick.

I was afraid of this. I'm very impatient, so I'll probably just get something that is listed as "Available Now" and pick it up somewhere else... $55 Used at EB...
spzero were you trying to get the Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the PS3 I take it?
That I am goomba.

Anyone know the latest you can cancel/switch a preorder @ EB? Game comes out tomorrow and I don't the the car tonight, will I be able to cancel it on my way to work tomorrow even though it will be in stock?

And will i just get my EB credit back or do I have to switch to another preorder?

I've cancelled a preorder a week after a game came out. I got credit for it (and it was a Trade 3 too :D)

I'm not sure if they are supposed to do that but it worked for me.

Just think of how many stories we hear about people not being able to pick up their preorder. It just happened to ManaKnight a few weeks ago with Demon Souls. You canceling will probably make someone else very happy. They'll probably try to get you to move it somewhere else but they should give you back your credit if you really want to.

If you pre-ordered the game using credit/cash, you should get that credit returned to you; however, if you used T3, they may make you move your pre-order to another T3 game. That prevents people from doing a T3 for any title they want, then just not picking up the game, and receive an easy $69.99 credit. Essentially makes every game a GG.

The game doesn't happen to be Borderlands, does it? Rumour has it that EB won't allow switching on that game since everyone else is selling it at $39.99. You may have to return it or find some other way.

Yeah I was told that too but the guy let me change my T3 just because I stop in there and BS with him at least once a week. Ended up switching to Assassin's Creed 2.

Nope, they're not supposed to and the same thing happened to me because the jerk didn't call me about a preorder I had for over a week (ODST).

So the only thing he was able to do was transfer my preorder to some other crap preorder even though it's 'something he wasn't supposed to do'. Yeah, and not calling someone who prebought a game of yours well in advance wasn't something you're supposed to do either. >:p

Are they seriously supposed to call you? I've preordered about five games and have never once been called. Most of the time I know when a game comes out but still it would be nice in case I forgot.

I've found over the last couple of weeks they're getting more careful with pre-orders, T3 shenanigans, etc.

When I was returning a game I had pre-ordered that I bought with edge credit, they wanted the original receipt to show it wasn't a T3. Also another time I was also told upfront when doing a T3 that if I cancelled it, I would only get the original TIV back.

I wonder if the whole T3/GG thing backfired a bit.. it doesn't look like they're offering the GG anymore.

With some of the stories of people being banned, and the hardcore abuse some former CAGs/RFDers carry out, no one should be surprised at all.

If thats so I can always resort to bringing it back a day latter unopened saying "I ended up getting this unexpectedly as a gift." But I really hope I don't have to make 2 trips, that would totally suck.

If you actually /want/ them to call that should be as easy as pie.

I was told awhile back about cracking down, needing a receipt for any changes, and only refunding $8 a game if its trade 3. Not a bit surprised with what the rfd idiots brag about spending hours a day doing.

But when I picked up uncharted they wanted me to switch it because of the price drop. I didnt know what else to get and knew the nephew wanted that one so I kept it. I knew some rfders had gotten the $10 credited, but I was alright no getting it. But holy smokes it took them ages to figure out how to do it, all 3 staff with the store packed lol. They had to find the games I had traded in, sell them back to me t the $23, and re take them in at $20. I would have just switched it if I had known waht a problem it would cause, i can see why some stores just give the $10 back instead of going through that to keep it.

I know a lot of people in the USA got their Left 4 Dead 2 demo codes for pre-ordering did anyone in Canada get theirs? I asked my local Ebgames and they said they had not heard anything about it?

Keep in mind, they technically have no idea if you do t3g1f if u do not bring your pre-order slip. I talked to some employees at eb and they said the better idea is not to bring the pre-oder slip all together when u pick up your game if u plan on returning it or exchanging the game. AN EMPLOYEE SAID THIS!!

If there was a price drop to $59.99 and you initially pre-order the game when it was 69.99 T3G1F, I always got $10 in TC, no need for any adjustments. Employees have recommended using T3G1F on 69.99 games first and then change them later to a 59.99 game to take advantage of the extra $10 TC. From what it sounds like, your store just makes things complicated.

From the sounds of it, his store is following the rules, yours is not. I've talked to several EB employees, and they are not supposed to be giving out the $10 credit adjustment. You probably deal with part-time employee who either don't know the rules, or don't care to follow them.

I've dealt with managers, full-time, and part-time employees from various locations as well. I'm thinking its the latter (they don't care and just want the business).

Not really related but as usual thought I would ask here. A while ago, when Dell had that website mistake and all games were discounted, I orderd some games using direct funds on paypal (obviously it never went through so the status was always pending). Now the status on that says expired....but does the money get refunded back to my bank account or what?

Was there a withdrawal from your bank account?

I'm pretty sure, I seem to remember around $100 being taken out of my account (unless I'm having a huge brain fart here and took that money out for something else xD).

I just bought a used game from FS in another town(quite aways away) and surprise surprise the game doesn't work, do I have to return it to the one I bought it from or can I take it back the one nearest to me?

This is the second used game I've bought from FS that doesn't work and it doesn't even have the manual, this is absolutely ridiculous. I love the fact that on the receipt it says "...Used games are rigorously tested...", so far I'm batting 0 for 2, just a warning to anyone who's thinking of buying used from them.

In continuence with the post above^^^^^

Apparently they won't give me back my credit because it's already opened and they will only offer an exchange for the same game. That would be alright if they had the game in stock but guess what? They don't. Online stock 0, and in store stock 0. And they won't request a copy for me from another store so the only way I was told to be able to check if they have one in stock is to call the store every week. So apparently I'm stuck with this broken game until somebody else trades in a copy. WTF.... Even though it clearly says online "...If a problem arises, Future Shop will exchange it for the same game or provide an in-store credit.". I'm not asking for much here, I'd be happy to receive another copy and if not a refund.

What should I do, go back in and request that I speak to the manager and bring a printout of the online Trade-In FAQ? Anyone have any similar experiences to mine? The Guelph Futureshop has been horrible for me and this is quite possibly the last straw.

^^I would go back and refuse to leave without in-store credit. It's not your fault the game doesn't work and FS doesn't have stock. Ask them what happens if you call them every week for stock and they don't get any within the 30 days you have to exchange it?

I haven't gotten the extra $10 back for a while. The EBs in Vancouver have been cracking down. There's no way you're supposed to get the $10, but in the past I've had clerks who don't know how to clear it so they just give it to me on an edge card.

Yeah I'd talk to the manager. You paid cash for a game that doesn't work ask for store credit back.
What's the best way to ship games in dual-cases (PS1 RPG's, etc.)? I know they wouldn't fit for lettermail, so how much would it cost to ship within Canada?
I ship them via lettermail within Canada. If you put on the proper amount of stamps for the weight and drop it off in a drop box it will go through just fine. If you try to drop it off at a post office they will try and put it through the slot and tell you to ship it as a parcel. I have sent 50+ oversized items including PS1 RPG's via lettermail and only got one sent back. I just took off the return to sender notice and put it back in a drop box and it went through fine the next time. For now the people at the sorting facility are too lazy to care about lettermail being oversized so you can save yourself a couple of bucks and just send it lettermail.

Best Buy or Futureshop, I guess.

Does anyone know if you preorder God of War 3 somewhere like EBGames, do they give you a demo code as the bonus? Or is there another way I can get access to the demo?

You can get the demo code inside the God of War Collection package, no matter where you buy it.

OK thanks, so for a PS1 RPG how many standard 0.54$ stamps would I need? I'm guessing 6 of them?

Well it has to add up to $2.75 so either 5 + a 5cent one or 6 standard stamps.

Does anybody know any good games to buy used from EB games that have an almost 1:1 trade in value elsewhere? I've got too much credit at EB games and cause they don't price match, I'd like "exchange" it to another store. FS, Rogers, BBV, BB, anything. Thanks.

it should .....

i got goomba to buy me the MvC2 limited edition case for PS3 & he sent me the code in advance, so i could start playing right away. The code he gave me was from the United States but it worked perfectly fine when i used it with my canadian psn account. im not sure how amazon does their code distribution system, but im assuming it's the same as with dlc & such where they give you the code & then you go to redeem the code that you are given.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply :D

Dont necessarily take my word for it though since ive never personally used amazon.com's code system. I'd recommend looking it up on google, but worst case, make an american account for this sort of thing.

Had a quick question for you guys...I'm close to selling an item to a random feller, and he's interested in doing EMT (electronic money transfer). I've never done something like this before, so I'm wondering if there are any negatives to using this method? I'd prefer to use Paypal, but I would also prefer to have the money go directly into my bank account.

edit: nevermind guys, looks like the seller bailed once I asked to use Paypal instead of EMT. Oh well!
